Itunes keeps dissapearing my track info

ok, I couldn't find this problem posted anywhere on the site so i hope someone can help. I recently updated my itunes to the current version (the 'mini store' version) and now i am noticing that the albums I have imported into itunes are being altered. everytime a song is selected or played most the info i've added to the tracks are erased, including cover pics, lyrics to songs, comments, release year, etc... itunes even changes around track & artist names (for example, 'The Song' will be come Song, The') as well. This is becoming extremely frustrating for me beacuse I have an extensive library & worked really hard getting all the information into itunes in the first place (miniquestion: why doesn't itunes automatically load cover art for imported cd's like winamp & wmp does anyway? Incidentally, NONE of the tracks I've bought from the music store seem to be affected by my problem... hmmm...) I dont know if this a bug or what but any help on this would be appreciated. THX

I had a similar problem. I copied and pasted lyrics, but they were not saved. It didn't happen with music purchased directly from iTunes.
I downloaded iPod updater 2006-03-23. My 5th Gen, 60GB iPod w/video (not iTunes) required an update to v 1.1.1. Once I performed the update, my lyrics were not erased. My iTunes version is 6.0.4.2. To find your version, click Help/About on your iTunes program.
Find the iPod updater here:

  • HELP ! Audio won't load.  itunes grabs (imports) cd track info only

re: an ipod mini on a winXP system. Used this mini just fine on a win2000 box. That box died, am now on an XP system. its an older computer (pentium I, 256 RAM)but is up to date with service pack 2 and all the critical updates. Installed itunes 7.
Now the mini won't work with itunes. Put cd in and itunes loads up the track info but wont take the audio part. ipod syncs up the playlist info as displayed in itunes with no audio. CD's add to the library as track info only without the audio. Had itunes v.4 on there before v7 and had the SAME PROBLEM so dont think its a version issue.
ANY SUGGESTIONS TO FIX THIS? HELP PLEASE - THANKS!

    hmmm. actually, i've had

so if you don't mind, let's try doing some basic research.
    (1) head into your "My Computer" while you've got the ipod plugged in. what drives are being assigned to what drive letters? for reference purposes, here's a screenshot of my "My Computer" window:

do you get the message when you're in this configuration?
    (2) could you head into your itunes "Advanced-General" subtab and take a screenshot of that for us? there's instructions on how to do that given here:

  • Why doesn't my iTunes Library list any  track info.  for the CDs I burn?

I've bought a new PC and after setting up iTunes i began to copy my CD library back into my new iTunes library on my new computer.
But when I copy a CD now the only album information that copies is "track 1" "track 2" "track 3" etc. No song titles, no artist names, no album names. No album covers. All of this information was automatically copied from the same CDs on my old computer with a slightly older version of iTunes.
What's wrong? How can I fix this?

Are you reimporting the CDs themselves or are you copying over the files from the old computer? I assume the latter.
If you are copying over the old files from the old computer, what format where they imported as? My guess is that you used AIFF or WAV files? If so, that is the problem. WAV and AIFF files can not store info like artist, track title, etc. like you can with MP3 and AAC files. Instead the iTunes database file (the .itl file on a Windows machine) keeps track of that stuff. If you move the WAV or AIFF files, that information is lost/disconnected.
Try this and see if it works. Pick all the tracks from an album and then use the Get Track Info command. Since they were originally imported by iTunes, it may work and fetch the proper information.

  • Where does iTunes keep the "comments" field info?

I've lost all the comments I recently entered for a particular CD
and I need to figure out what file iTunes keeps that infomation in
so I can get only that file out of a recent back up.
This info is not in the file titled "iTunes Music Library.xml" is it?
I looked in there by opening it in TextEdit but that didn't seem to be
the file so it must be kept someplace else. UgH!@

    Matthew,
thanks for the quick reply but...
I have not actually ripped a song so this info can not be in the song file.
Here is what i have going :
I put in the CD and I have titled each track to give it a descriptive name and
further added comments to the comments fields.
    I eject the CD.
When I insert the CD again, all this info shows there again, it's like
iTunes just knows it's this CD and what the song titles are etc.
So this song title and commments info couldn't be part of the song file because the songs are still on the CD and iTunes can't make a change on the CD, it's a commercial write protected CD, know what I mean?
Also, the song title and comments info isn't kept in the "iTunes Music Library.xml" because iTunes shows song titles and comments that are
not in this file when I search in it with TextEdit. This is making me nuts!

  • Help! iTunes is deleting my track info!

My iTunes has been working fine since i put it on my system about 6 months ago, however, it has started deleting Album, Artist and Genre information of a track whenever I play it. In addition to this it has now started deleting the info for any track I just click once on or the info of the one below. I have upgraded to the latest iTunes but the problem continues. Could anyone help me save my info?
    Thanks,

      Windows XP

OK sorry I can't help. The only thing I have is that Windows Media Player can do funny things if you have "Retrieve additional information from the internet" Checked under "Automatic Media information updates for files" on the library tab of options.
Presumabely the files are being moved as you have "Keep iTunes Music folder organised" checked in your preferences, and when the tag info goes, iTunes moves the file into an Unknown folder.
Do you know what ID3 tag version you are using? I understand iTunes uses 2.2, but all mine are 2.3 with no problems.

  • ITunes keep deleting my track numbers

For some reason several of my albums are losing there track numbers along with other id3 info. Why?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • ITunes Keeps Changing My Song Info

Forgive me if this is an easy fix (of which I hope it is). On my father's laptop it seems like every Wednesday iTunes updates his song library which causes any information he changed to revert back to where it was originally. For example, he has bought individual songs from four separate Elton John albums but condenses them into one custom album that he created. He makes sure all the sorting options match that of his custom album information, but come Wednesday those songs are automatically modified to revert back to their previous settings.
Another example is that I gifted him The Tragically Hip's "Now for Plan A" album, but the bonus track edition. The default name of the album is "Now for Plan A (Bonus Track Edition)." He will customize the album to rid away the Bonus Track part and just leave the rest as is. He does this both for Album and Sort Album for all songs involved. Come Wednesday it will revert it back to the Bonus Track Edition.
Is there a setting I am missing to turn this off? I don't recall having similar issues on my personal iTunes account on a separate computer. He uses Windows, I use OSX.
    Thanks for any help.

In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music

  • Missing track info

    Hello readers,
I made a mix cd for my friend on itunes and when she tried to import the cd onto her itunes all of the track info was missing.
Is there anyway to keep the song info when making a mix cd?
If there is not; If she re-types all the info manually will the info be on the cd if she were to lend it to another friend?
I apologize if that sounds choppy, it is late.
Thanks for reading my questions, if you have any input feel free to respond.

    Hello there,
It might be the case that you need to burn an MP3 CD (instead of just an audio CD) if you want to keep all the track info.
    Hope this helps

  • Track Info Retrieval options...??

    Hi, all.
So, when I insert a CD into my iTunes, it retrieves the tracks info.
However, sometimes, it gives me two options. I selected one, but the organization of that one was a mess (Classical Music suffers a GREAT deal when retrieving this kind of info) lots of info missed, wrong, etc.
How can I get to "re-choose" the second option???
Every time I eject and re insert the CD, it loads the info that I selected before. So, is there a way to "clear the cache" or something like that, so I can upload the CD with the proper option ??
Thank you all very much for your help...!

    Maybe try two things..
First. Get rit of all, info on the album. Write the album name in the search box, ao only the album you want to change is showing. Then select all, and delete the Artist, Album Artist etc. Then try and mark them all again and go to the Advance manu, and press the button "get CD-track names" (i think thats what written on the button!)
    If this doesn't work...
Delete the album, and import it again with the right names...
Thats my suggestions, hope it works, have a good day.

  • Song volume drops when I edit track info

Just ran into a strange hiccup.
I recorded a song, saved it as an AAC audio file, dragged it into iTunes.
The song plays just fine in iTunes but obviously the track info is incomplete -- the name is the name of the file I saved and there is no artist, no album, no artwork, bla bla bla.  So I did the "Get Info" thing and made the needed edits.
But -- and now it gets weird -- when I play the song with more info the volume is much diminished.
I can increase the volume under Options in Get Info but something ain't right.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    I'm running iTunes 11.4 (18) on an iMac with OS X 10.9.4

  • How can I burn music from my iTunes library to CD, while still keeping the track info intact?

I made several CDs for a friend, but when my friend imported the disc into iTunes none of the track names showed up (it just said "Track 1", "Track 2", etc.) This is annoying because it was 8 CDs worth of music (over 150 songs!)
Is there a software or any tool I can use that will allow me to burn music for friends, while still keeping the track info intact?

how do i get itunes to keep track info on cds i burn in itunes?

Audio CDs do not contain track information. For commercial CDs this information is supplied by the Gracenote service (see below).  Each computer gets this information for a particular CD from this service, it isn't on the CD.  You would have to register your CD with Gracenote.  In my opinion this is a bit much for a personal CD that only a few computers in the world will ever see, but I guess unless they block it then you can do it.

  • When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

    Max OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 11.1
I had a similar problem: I wanted to synch my playlist to my iphone. I like to have my playlist sorted by genre. But under each genre, albums are not sorted by the track numbers. This is a problem, especially when I am listening to club mixes when the DJ smoothly transitions from 1 track sequentially to the next one. Under the properties of each audio file, the Track Numbers and Disc Numbers are already there.
My perfect solution was to turn On Sorting - Sort Album under View>Show View Options. Then, select all the songs in that album (Shift click, Cmd click, etc) , and Edit multiple item information (Cmd I). You will see Info-Video-Sorting-Options buttons. Click on Sorting. Then, under Sort Album, Enter the name of the album. Then OK.
You should now have the playlist sorted by Genre, then each album individually sorted by track numbers. On your playlist you should see, if you scroll right, the column added called "Sort Album".
    Hope this helps.

  • Keep track info when burning cd

When I burn a playlist to a cd (disk format: audio cd) I loose all track info when I play on a different computer. How can I keep the info?

Just to be clear, CD-TEXT is sort of considered to be part of the Red Book CD specification (an extension of the standard). From Wikipedia:
CD-TEXT is an extension of the standard "Red Book" Compact Disc specification, which allows text to be associated with each track. On most disks, this space is used to store the track and album titles as well as the performing artist name. The P and Q subchannels are normally used to store the information. The specification was released in September 1996, and backed by Sony. Support for CD Text is common, but not universal. Utilities exist to automatically rip CD-TEXT data, and insert it into CDDB or freedb.
I would have to think about this for a minute, but off the top of my head, I think iTunes is the only audio software I use that doesn't support CD-TEXT. Reading it is certainly not a difficult thing to implement, so it would be nice if Apple got around to this at some point, since CD-TEXT has been around for 10 years. Incidentally, I recently bought a new CD-RW drive for my PC, so I ripped all my CDs again with EAC. I was shocked to see how many pressed audio CDs I have with CD-TEXT information. Many of them are from the 90's.

  • Make track info stay up in itunes 9

I want to know if there is a way to keep the track info up in a full screen visualization all of the time i can do it with the legacy one but can the new one do it.

It is because they have not yet been added to the database that is used to provide the track information.
When you insert a CD into your computer and it appears in iTunes, the iTunes software connects to a database and looks for the track names for the CD. If it finds the CD in the database the track names are downloaded and use to tag the music.
The album art on the other hand is provided by the iTunes Music Store, so if an album is not available in the iTunes Store than you cannot get the album art for it. As the Beatles are not yet available in the iTunes Store you will not get the album art.
