ITunes keeps freezing within 3 minutes of being opened (OSX, iTunes 11.04(4) )

Hi All,
My iTunes application keeps freezing and I have no idea why. Whenever I open it now, regardless of what I do, it gives the spinning colorful pinwheel within a few minutes and doesn't go away until I kill the program. It happens if I do nothing at all and just leave the window open (not even touch the mouse or keyboard), if happens if I start to play a song (the song will keep playing, but iTunes will get unresponsive), it always happens D:
Has anyone else had a problem like this? Apologies for how difficult it is to troubleshoot, it doesn't seem that any action I'm doing is causing iTunes to freeze, it just stops responding.
It's been going on for a few days now. I'm all updated, tried restarting the computer... no idea what to do!!! Please help me.
Thanks very much in advance!

Actually I think I figured it out. I think I was using a faulty link for one of my podcast subscriptions that was messing everything up (Tiny Desk Concerts Audio Podcast).
What tipped me off was that I noticed a down arrow icon and what looked like a status bar popping up in the top right corner of the screen just before it froze. I guess that's a podcast downloading indicator.
Thanks all!

  • Leopard keeps freezing after 15 minutes

After clean installing with Leopard, my computer keeps freezing up about every 10 or 15 minutes. I thought it was dashboard or spotlight but I'm not so sure. I disabled spotlight but there seems to be something else running in the background. It sounds like something is processing in the background like something is installing or updating because I can hear my hardrive and cpu working. Everything freezes except for my mouse. Any thoughts?

Run Applications / Utilities / Activity Monitor and select "All Processes" from the pull down menu at the top. Click on the CPU column to sort by CPU activity. See if you can determine what process is using up too much processor time.
At the same time, run Applications / Utilities / Console and select "All Messages" in the column at the left. See if any error messages are being thrown when the system gets stuck.
As basic maintenance, reset your Parameter memory (PRAM). PRAM holds copies of certain system settings for rapid access and if it gets out of whack odd things can happen. To reset PRAM, Shut Down the computer. Then reboot while holding down the 4 keys Apple-Option-P-R until you hear the SECOND startup chime, then release them. Your computer will continue to boot up normally.
Also run Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. Select the line in the column on the left showing the name of your main hard drive. Then click on Verify Disk in the panel on the right (if problems are found you will need to boot from your Leopard install DVD and run Disk Utility from there to repair them). If no problems are found, then also click on Repair Disk Permissions in the panel on the right. It may put out some notifications, but if it finishes with "Permissions Repair Complete" you are fine. Then Restart the computer and see if the problem persists. Be patient with both of these. They will take a long time and the progress bar may not advance until the very end.

  • Every single time I go to my Hotmail account(s), Foxfire will load the page and then freeze within a minute or two requiring a whole shutdown of my browswer. HELP!!!

Over the past few months I have been having issues every time that I log onto my Hotmail account. My Foxfire has seemed to be "buggy" for the past three upgrades but now mostly everything is working well. When I log onto one of my Hotmail accounts, I can start to check it and within a minute or two, Foxfire will freeze and I have to Force Quit. To my knowledge, I'm not missing any PlugIns, I have not changed anything in my settings, yet it constantly freezes. I have to Force Quit Foxfire every single time I want to check my email. I really like FoxFire and don't want to go back to Safari - Help!

I get an e-mail through gmail that notifies me that the days comics are available for me to read. I open the e-mail and immediately click on the link that takes me to the site and my page of comics. I shut down the e-mail and only have the site page open. Somewhere about halfway through the list, Firefox crashes. Usually it then gives me that "inform Firefox" notice, but it also just tells me that it has crashed and I have to restart Firefox from the desktop. Rarely, it will let me do a "restore" but, as I say, that is rare - I usually just have to restart Firefox and go back to my e-mail and start all over again. Also, when I am on the site, the icons for going forward or back on the individual comics is not showing, I have to guess which icon is under the pointer.
I have not reset Firefox back to original, as I don't really want to do that, since I seem to always lose important information when I do that. I am using the most current version - 33.02. Even while typing this, FIrefox won't show that dash "-" mark, I just hope it's there.
Also, my bookmarks save(exported) file is 12,924 KB in size, which seems rather large to me. And I do have a large amount of sites saved, so...
    Any ideas/help?
    Thanks!

  • Firefox crashes within a minute everytime I open it. If I reinstall will I lose my bookmarks?

For the past three days, Firfox crashes within a minute to five minutes everytime I open it. However, when I open "organize bookmarks," It crashes immediately. I just want to find a way to save all my bookmarks. But I cannot even get Firefox to stay open long enough for this. If I delete my current version and reinstall, will I lose my bookmarks. also what do you suggest I do. I love Firefox and am really upset that I may no longer be able to use it.
    Thanks, RJS

Does anyone think this is a problem with the newest update of Firefox? I never had this problem before.

Trying to view an SD version of an iTunes movie on my MacBook Pro and it repeatedly freezes 9 minutes into movie.  Using iTunes 10.  Any suggestions to correct this problem?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • Itunes freezes and stops responding after about 1 minute of being open

This problem has been happening only recently. It just freezes, I logged onto my computer yesterday and it did the same thing. And it's doing it again today!! its really frustrating! I just re-installed itunes, the latest version for windows. My computers specs can handle it no problem..
The song i am listening still plays, but just the program stops responding
I only have like 103 songs.
I got an ipod classic about a month ago and converted some videos for it, just letting you know incase that is the problem. but this never happened when i got my ipod or before.. only just now.
so whats going on and how can i fix it?

Ever since downloading osx Mavericks , my mac book keeps on crashing every few minutes. Doesn't matter what application I am using, system hangs every few minutes. I have been looking at Activity monitor closely. Following programs end up using a lot of CPU and hang a lot:

  • My I book G4 keeps freezing after 2 minutes everytime!

Im having trouble with my Ibook G4. Every time I turn it on. after 2 minutes to three minutes, it freezes on me. I cant move the mouse or anything. When I close the laptop, it is still on. Next I power it down and when I try to put it back on, I get the blue screen. Is there anyone that can help me with this problem? Help me please.

I have exactly the same problem - It totally freezes - no message or anything, just drop-dead nothing works any more.
If I let the computer "rest" for awhile, it starts up and runs for a bit, then eventually freezes. I had installed some (third-party) RAM (a Gig), but took that out (ran the diagnostics before and after with no problem either time).
The longer I let it sit, the longer it would run without a crash. If I started it up, but didn't actually do anything (after turning off the sleep function), it wouldn't freeze at all, but after running some apps, it would eventually freeze.
I hadn't thought of the over heating as being the problem, although it makes the most sense since I did everything else I could possible do, including running disk utility, zeroing the drive and re-installing, running Disk Warrior - nothing worked.
The computer was less than 3 months old when I started having this problem, and it was one of a few - the hinge was apparently too tight, which created stress on the monitor, so the seam where the monitor meets the plastic came apart, I had a few issues with synching with my acct., and various other minor issues.
I just sent it back to be looked at... I'll post when I get some feedback. I'm actually hoping that they just send me a new computer instead of sending this one back, as it shouldn't have had so many problems so early on.
One final note: When I bought the computer, it had Tiger installed, but the system discs in the box were Panther.9
I had to borrow a Tiger disc from a friend in order to run the Utilities and re install the software. Nobody at the Apple store or online could figure out why that would happen, but it did. Strange.

  • Final Cut express keeps crashing within 5 minutes of starting to render

    Please help!
I am using Final cut express for this project.  I created it on an Imac.
Specs: Quad Core; Intel Core I-7; 8GB Ram; 2.93 GHz.  Media is stored on an external HD.
Whenever I select render timeline, the window appears and shows me the progress.  But once I let it alone and leave the computer alone for anywhere from 3-10minutes, and I return, I am greeted with another window asking if I want to report this crash to Apple or reopen program.  What on earth could be going wrong?  I have used this imac before with no hassle at all when rendering, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to render be working now.
I have tried to render only a few minutes of the time line and it works okay without crashing, but when I select the 30minute project, it crashes within a few minutes.
I've tried a few things to try and identify the problem, but none of them have helped.
For instance, I completely turned off the  screen saver. In the preferences, under power saver, I selected, computer sleep to "never"; Display sleep to "never"; I unchecked the "put the hard disk to sleep when possible."
And then I tried to only very small portion of the timeline.  The results were as follows:
At around 5 minutes, the final cut crashes.  I tried this process several times, and it seems to render up until the 5 minute limit and then crashes again.
Does anyone know what to do?
    Any suggestions?

  • Dual G5 freezes within 5 minutes of operation...help!

In the many years of owning this Dual G5, I have not had any problems until now. All things considering, not too bad. But I must say that when it did go bad, it went bad fast!!
After taking my computer to the Genius Bar, they ran a few things and ultimately told me to get rid of my 3rd party ram. I took it home and did the following:
    1) Took out the 3rd party ram and left the factory in there. Computer still froze.
    2) Took out factory ram and replaced it with third party ram. Computer still froze.
Then someone I knew indicated that I should perhaps reinstall OSX on a brand new hard drive. I went and purchased a new hard drive and took out the old. After hooking it up and running the OSX disk, guess what?
    The computer still froze.
After the computer freezes, the computer's fan kicks in higher and higher until it is like a turbine jet that is about to take off from my desktop. All keyboard actions are useless and I have to hard boot my computer to turn it off.
I'm really in a bind Any ideas??

    Cris and others, this is a possibility that should be looked into also;
The original Apple Pro mouse cable frays in the chord just as it exits the mouse, over time, and shorts out causing symtoms similar to yours. You can't see the fray by looking at it thru the exterior covering. This can happen to third party mice over time too.
Mine did it. I plugged it into a different port, so the chord exited the mouse in a different direction, and had very few freezes after that. Once I got over my frugalness (cheapness!) I bought a new one. Eventually it got to where I couldn't even work for more then a few minutes without a freeze.
So, try a known good mouse to see if that's the problem.
Don Archibald, a Level 5 here, said the USB ports on the keyboard (for you desktop users) are underpowered and can cause this problem also if the mouse is plugged in there. This can even fry the keyboard sometimes (happened to him). Try plugging your mouse into a port on your monitor or tower.
If you still have trouble post back!
If you have rulled that out, did you try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk?
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
    Cheers!

  • Lightroom freezes within 15 minutes of activity and process cannot end

    Hi all,
This is driving me absolutely crazy at the moment.
Some time ago Lightroom started freezing, it didn't matter too much what screen was involved. I'd be editing a photo or even doing something outside of lightroom and lightroom would become unresponsive and wouldn't display the current image etc.
It would allow you to close it, however the process would stay open in the task manager. No matter how one tries to close the tree or process, it totally ignores these requests and requires a reboot to resume work. This also happens while using photoshop with lightroom open - the two programs freezing in tandem.
Does anyone have any diagnostics I could try? I have tried doing memory checks on the drive with no problem showing, I have run registry cleaning / ccleaner and so on. There is no spyware or viruses operating.
The reliability monitor does not show these crashes. I am unaware of anything that was installed or uninstalled or when this specifically started happening.
There have been a few driver power state failure blue screens while using lightroom (although nowhere near as many as the simple freezes). Unable to diagnose the problem with this I uninstalled and reinstalled lightroom. I have tried both 4.4 and the new 5 in the hope that maybe something was fixed. My display drivers I am pretty sure are up to date also.
A few dxdiag for anyone that might be able to help.

  • PSE 10 Keeps freezing EVERY TIME I try to open it.

I have a less than 3 year old MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.3.  I purchased elements 10 NEW in october 2012.
EVERY TIME I try to open elements 10  Editor, it freezes before I can do anything. I have looked in other discussions. Tried to restart from another thread I tried the following...
    "Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
For related post for Twain please see this:http://forums.adobe.com/message/2954743#2954743
    Thanks,
    Garry"
    1 - I have to force quit
2 - Held down for MORE than 5 minutes. All I got was the spinning beachball. Back to #1
    3 - Don't have anti-virus
    4 -0 There is no "twain" plug-in
I have also uninstalled and re-installed elements 10. That didn't work either.
    Now what????

For anyone else who stumbles upon this thread....
Took the computer to Apple Genius Bar. They found the problem. In the Applications folder>Utilities>Activity Monitor, open and select System Memory at the bottom. Sort by %CPU. Find the icons showing at the left of the list. The ones at the top take the most memory. If whatever you are working on works way too slowly, you may find something above it (or bouncing around-up and down-on the list that is causing the problem (Mail and FireFox in my case). Quit those applications and things should speed up or, in my case, not freeze.

  • Firefox keeps freezing then crashing and a window opens saying "The Plug-In container for Firefox has stopped working..."

Every 5 minutes or so Firefox will freeze and if I'm on a website that uses the flash player the ads and what not will stop and an error thing replaces them and says Adobe Flash Player has crashed. Then a window pops up and says "The Plug-In container for Firefox has stopped working..." or something like that. Then my laptop will work slower until Firefox crashes. Any solutions ?

  • Audition slowing down windows 7 and crashing after a few minutes of being opened

I read a previous forum post on the issue and tried the suggestions. It didn't change anything. Please help.

You haven't really supplied any detail so that someone can offer some assistance
Some info regarding which version of Audition and which version of Win7 would be good for starters and some info about your audio interface, etc would be good too
I'm going to guess that you don't have a unique copy of either Audition or Win7 and as many users on this forum have multiple versions of Audition running without incident on Win7 I'm going to also guess that the issue lies in your particular setup.
It is what is different about your setup that we need to sort out and hopefully fix
If you really do want some pain then yes buy ProTools

  • ARD 3.1 freezing constantly within 20 minutes using static ip

I've experienced many of the issues posted on this forum with regards to ARD 3.1 on an intel iMac I use in the school district I work in. The issue I most experience is that ARD freezes anywhere within 20 minutes of being launched & force quitting is the only option. I thought at first this was an intel mac issue as ARD 3.1 on my 15" g4 pb works reliably from anywhere within the district.
Last Friday it dawned on me that my is set to use DHCP since I take with me to various buildings in the district, each of which is on it's own sub-net. The iMac uses a static ip as it sits on my desk at the IT center. I set the iMac to using DHCP with the result ARD worked through quite a long session without any problems. Switching back to a static ip ARD didn't last even 20 minutes.
I haven't tried configuring the iMac using DHCP with a static address yet (personally I can't understand why that option is available); right now I'm happy to find a solution that offers some hope. Any ideas on what might be happening.

I was having a similar problem this afternoon with my ARD after I added several new systems. I realized that some of the info for the systems wasn't coming up correct. After deleting those systems from the lineup, I stopped having freezes. I hope this helps.
Oh ya, I'm running ARD on a MacBook Intel.
