ITunes keeps hanging / crashing

I'm getting the spinning colored ball at random moments. Usually when trying to play/pause/skip, but sometimes out of nowhere. Frequent crashes as well. What's the best way to trouble shoot this? Do I need to reinstall the app? I'm running iTunes 10.7, the most recent version.
Thanks.

That particular file doesn't exist (as you imply) or the Library doesn't exist (because Apple has hidden it from you)?

for the proper procedure to *removing iTunes completely* click here and follow the instructions, then reinstall it using the standalone installer from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
    also try this:
quit iTunes. move the following file to the desktop: <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/library/preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
fire up iTunes (which will create a new .plist file). if it works now you can trash the plist file you moved to the desktop.
additionally, since it seems you're on OS X 10.6.3 (as per your signature), i strongly recommend you do this:
    (a) download the [_*Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo)*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1048]
    (b) +verify disk+ and +repair permissions+ using disk utility
    (c) reboot your Mac into _*safe mode*_
    (d) run the combo updater while in safe mode
    (e) upon normal reboot, repair permissions again
    (f) run software update from the  menu and install any updates offered
please post back with results !

  • Why does Firefox keep hanging, crashing, sulking, dying when internet connection behaves?

Why does Firefox keep hanging, crashing, sulking, dying when internet connection behaves? Once it renders the page it should forget about the page. Why does it behave when some link is clicked when there is no internet? It should just say internet not available or some crap. Why die, sulk, crash?? I don't get it! 3 series was much much much better!

I should add, I've re-downloaded Firefox, but that doesn't look like it has helped any. Still get seemingly inexplicable crashes.

  • Why my itunes keep hang on syncing backup?

I had tried all troubleshoot but i still having trouble with my itunes.
I cant sign in to Itune store & when I tried to sync it keep hang on part 2 ( backing up )

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • ITunes Match now causes iTunes to hang/crash

When I start iTunes, everything is fine.  When iTunes Match starts checking my library and the cloud, iTunes then hangs and I have to force quit.  If I turn off WiFi, I can prevent iTunes Match from starting up and use iTunes and sync iDevices fine.  My Library seems to be fine, but if I turn on WiFi again, iTunes Match starts connecting and again iTunes crashes.  I have tried to turn off iTunes Match, but iTunes Match has to connect before it will let me turn it off, and connecting is what is crashing iTunes.
Anyone else having a similar experience?

What I've found is there are specific files that won't upload, causing iTunes to crash.
The files that are causing it for me are hour+ long DJ mixes.  I can't find anything else other than the length of the files.  Nothing I've found helps other than deleting the files from your library.  Good luck finding those files though .
I have older files that were in my library when Match was first released of the same length, which do not have the issue.  Extremely frustrating that there isn't a way I've found to disable a file from syncing.

  • My iTunes keeps hanging. What do I do?

Whenever i open my Mac and launch itunes, it hangs and wont work. Please what do i do?

The first thing you should look for is old out-dated software that interacts with iTunes. You'll find plug-ins for those apps here:
    Mac:
    /Users/username/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins/
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins/
Just pull them to the desktop and test again.

  • ITunes keeps on crashing

Everytime I open iTunes, it crashes a couple of seconds later.
    Help

No, I've found lots of people with this problem on various forums. I've removed all plug-ins (which seems to work for some people), trashed Quicktime (which works for others) and I still have this problem.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

  • Why does itunes keep on crashing??

Itunes repeatedly crashes, I have windows vista and an ipod touch.
For example i just cancelled a sync it then froze so I closed it successfully.
I then tried to reopen it but when i clicked on the icon it loaded but did not open.
I then logged off my user name and logged back on but it is now saying
' I cannot open the application Itunes because another user has it open' but I am the only user which uses itunes.'
It is very annoying it crashes often, and some of the songs on my ipod are distorted and I am wondering if it is because of itunes as it is only after I have synced my ipod they become distorted.
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me why this is happening

    1. Double-click the Home button to close all Inactive Apps in Task Bar
    2. Hold the Apps in Task Bar down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close Apps
    4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen
    5. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider

  • Itunes keeps unexpectedly crashing. please help

Whenever I open itunes, it will open for about 10 seconds and then close. I get no error, or anything. It just shuts down by itself. I tried a system restore to a point when itunes was working properly, but that didn't work either. Any ideas?
