ITunes keeps keeps old info of IPod Nano

I have an ipod nano and when I plug it in, it shows the information I had on a previous ipod and says that it is 180GB (wouldn't that be nice). I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled and it still has the old information. If I take my Ipod to a different computer it shows up as new so I know that it is not the ipod. How do I completely remove Itunes from my computer to include this history of my previous ipod?

Try this.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

We have itunes music on a computer, an ipod nano, and a new ipod touch under two different accounts. How can we combine the music from both accounts to one device?

There is no "adding" a device.  Simply plug the iDevice into the computer.  iTunes should automatically detect the device when it is connected.
iTunes can sync/manage as many iDevices as you want... there is no 1 device limit.

    Hi, Jennifer.
First, try resetting the device.  The first article will walk you through this process.  I am unsure which iPod nano you have so I will include the basic article.  From there, select your version for troubleshooting steps.

  • How to keep icons of my iPod Nano permanently in the Side menu...

I do not want my Ipod Nano icon n contents to disappear when i am not connected. Does anyone know how to keep it there so i know what i have on it? Please help. Thanks.

Are you auto syncing the Nano or manually managing it?
Either way, when plugged into your computer and showing up in iTunes, next to the iPod icon on the left side of the iTunes screen is a right facing arrow (triangle). Click this to turn it down and the contents of the iPod show. The first one, "Library" is the one to click on to see the songs on there.

  • Itunes keeps telling me my ipod is in recovery mode

Help! When I connect my ipod to the computer i am told every time by itunes that my ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored before it can be used with itunes. I have restored my ipod multiple times, reinstalled itunes. Stayed on hold 2 hours with apple support and gave up. Can anyone help me please!

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT1353 Can you download radio to the old 2nd generation ipod nano? There is no category for downloads, only stuff bought from iTunes.

My 3rd generation ipod nano has blanked out on me. I have a 2nd generation ipod, was able to download my music from my iTunes library on it, but it would not download radio programmes from my download library. There is no category on the ipod for downloads, is this because it doesnt accept them?

It depends on what you mean by radio programs exactly.  Where were they originally downloaded from? Do they appear in the music category of your iTunes library?

  • "Ipod software is too old" error with ipod nano

I am having a big problem with my ipod nano. I've been working on it for a week and still have not been able to fix it. I can sync my ipod nano to my mac g4 (running OS X 10.3.9) however in the ipod settings it won't show the version of ipod software and the click buttons to restore the ipod or update it are grayed out. When I connect the ipod I get an error message "Some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to your ipod because your ipod software is too old. Go to Summary tab in ipod preferences and update to get the latest software update."
As mentoined, when I do that the update is not available. I have reset the ipod multiple times, restored it, reformatted the disk etc. With the ipod blank, I discovered it does NOT give this error when I connect it to an older imac g3 (go figure) and that it correctly shows the ipod system information and allows me to update it or restore it from itunes (7.0.2). If I then plug the ipod into the G4 it gives the same error message.
The fact that it works and syncs fine with another mac leads me to believe that it's not the ipod, but my system software on the G4 that is corrupted- there must be a settings file that is bad, I just don't know which one it is. Help!!

Is it possible that you have part of an old iTunes still installed on your computer? If so, take a look at the info I pasted below from the following article:Troubleshooting iTunes installation on Mac OS X
It's possible that clicking the iTunes icon in your Dock or double-clicking an iTunes icon on your desktop could open an older version of iTunes. Open iTunes from the Applications folder to be sure you are opening the right version:
    Double-click your hard disk.
    Double-click the Applications folder.
    Double-click the iTunes icon.
If you notice another copy of iTunes in the Dock after following these steps, here's a way to take care of that:
    Quit iTunes.
Drag the iTunes icon out of the Dock.
Drag the iTunes icon from the Applications folder to the Dock.

  • ITunes not recognizing my 2nd Gen iPod Nano.

"An iPod has been detected, but can not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
This is the message my MacBook keeps giving me when I plug in my iPod Nano. All was fine until I downloaded 7.5 (then 7.6)
I've used different USB cords, I've reset my iPod Nano, I've switched it to Disk Mode to try to restore it that way...nothing works. And I know it's not my iPod because I deleted 7.5 and reinstalled 7.0 and it worked just fine. Unfortunately I need 7.6 in order to sync my new purchases with my iPod.
Anyway, anyone else having these issues with the new iTunes updates?????? Any solutions? Or does Mac just expect me to buy new iPods every 6 months....????? (very annoyed with mac right now as my other 30GB iPod Classic just starting flashing the sad ipod icon...i've had it 1 1/2 years....so very obnoxious.)
    Thanks for your time!

I'm glad (selfishly glad, I guess) that someone else is going through this too. Just upgraded to new iTunes and now my little 2GB nano isn't even recognized. Tried everything you did as well. No worky.
I will be anxious to see what someone comes up with...

  • How to install the itunes on windows ME for play ipod nano

I buy the ipod nano, but i don't know how to save the music my ipod nano by itunes, because i cannot install the disc on windows ME,PLEASE HELP

Sorry, but itunes cant be installed onto a windows ME machine, it is too old an operating system. You can:
    1) Take the nano back if its within your stores money back time and buy another player thats compatable.
    2) Upgrade to a better OS, windows XP is usually the one thats most available.
    3) Install another player. Through one of Bruce Hoover's posts i learned of XPlay2, a free trial program downloadable from MediaFour.com that will let you do most things with your ipod that itunes would, including updating and restoring software. The only thing you cant do is buy from the itunes music store.
    Hope this helps
P.S Thanks to Bruce Hoover for info on a previous post

  • ITunes won't sync info to iPod touch

    Hello,
I keep getting the following error message when attempting to sync my contacts, calendar, and bookmarks with my iPod. When I check these under the "info" tab and ciick apply, the following error message appears:
"iTunes cannot sync information with this iPod because syncing has been disabled on this computer. Do you want to enable syncing? If you do not enable syncing, iTunes will not be able to sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks or mail accounts to your iPod."
When I click yes, the following prompt appears:
"iTunes was unable to load provider data Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later."
When I click OK, it takes away my selections to sync contacts, calendars, etc.
I have never disabled syncing. I've looked through system and iTunes preferences and can't even find an option to disable/enable syncing.
This was after I updated my iTunes. Then I tried reinstalling it but noting.
Any advice about how to resolve this very frustrating problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.
I'm attempting to setup up MobileMe and need to get this problem resolved.
    Thanks,
    Kouzouz

Ok...I found a fix that worked awesome on my iTouch. The only drawback was that I had to re-import all of my music, but that might have a lot to do with the fact that I fugged with my Library file(s) before attempting this fix. Here goes...
Follow tediknight's process for removal of the offending iTunes 9.1:
here are they programs and you have to delete them in order
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Now go here: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54#download and pick the version you would like. If you've got an iTouch, you're going to have to pick a version 9.0 or newer...which doesn't give much wiggle room. I picked the most recent version before the 9.1 clusterfug (9.0.3 and in my case 64 bit) because I knew that version had worked right up until the update. If you have a 64 bit Windows system, MAKE SURE you pick a 64 bit build. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time downloading and will have to start all over.
I spent three days solving this problem, and now I'm back up and running. (Other than still having a thousand or so songs to move back into iTunes. But, like I said earlier, that may have been my own fault, or my inability to follow the instructions to restore my library. The files are still there.)
I hope this helps some folks out. I know I was frustrated to all **.

  • Itunes freezes when I connect my ipod nano

Thanks Santa for the new iPod Nano. Unfortunately, every time I connect the ipod to the computer, iTunes freezes and I have to completely reboot the PC. Very frustrating! I have reloaded all the software from the CDs four times, after unstalling it, to no avail. Interestingly, I have managed to download onto the ipod on one occassion and then once the download was complete, itunes froze. Any help would be much appreciated
    hp compaq nx9010   Windows 2000

Just in case, let's doublecheck to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes (the new 10.6.1.7 and one of the old ones with the freeze-on-nano-plugging-in issue.)
There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:
