ITunes keeps on opening - NO iPod - (becoming annoying!)

This may not seem like a big deal, but after a few days it is becoming quite annoying.
Every time I close iTunes, it opens itself again. It will keep doing it a few times (usually 3 or 4) and then it will stop.
I DO NOT have an iPod, so it cannot be the program starting itself because it recognizes the iPod being plugged. Any ideas why this is happening and how I can solve it?
Thanks!
NOTE: The iTunes version is the latest (6.04.something) and it is the first one I install in this computer.
Dell Latitude D610   Windows XP Pro   1GB RAM, 60GB HD

Anyone have any ideas on this? My iTunes started opening on its own today. I dont have any file sharing software installed and my iPod is not connected and hasnt been since the last reboot.
When I try to close it, I get an error message that some other "unknown" app is accessing the scripting interface. Is there any way some sort of virus is doing this? I havent installed any new apps for weeks.
thanks

  • Itunes keeps on opening

itunes keeps on opening and playing songs without clicking the itunes on the dock. once i stopped the song, after a few secs, it will play again. and so i tried to click quit itunes instead but still the same thing. itunes will open by itslef again and play. it keeps on and on while my mac is on. i tried to restart it, shut it down and opened after a few minutes, but it was still the same.
    what will i do?
    please help me!
    thanks in advance!

Ok...this is happening to me too. It just started today. Usually, after my iPod opens iTunes I can just quit iTunes and it will stay closed. Today, after a few minutes I hear my iPod click a few times and then iTunes opens again on my computer.
I just want to charge my iPod. No need for the program to be open, or for the extra stress of continuing to open my iPod hard drive.

  • ITunes keeps on opening by itself and playing music!

On my MacBook Air, iTunes randomly opens and begins playing music.  No matter what I do, it keeps doing this.  I have tried pausing the music (it just keeps playing a few seconds later), closing iTunes (it just opens back up).  It is really annoying and frustrating.  I have only had my MacBook for a year now......and it just started playing Phantom of the Opera, The Point of No Return....now I'm scared.

    Hi sailormoonfreax,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Are you closing the iTunes window, (clicking on the red dot), or are you actually quitting the application?
I would suggest force quitting the application, and then removing it from your Login items for your User account.
Another scenario that could be happening is a setting in Mountain Lion that reopens previously opened windows when you shut down or restart.
The articles below will explain these settings in more detail:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3411
    Mac Basics: Set your preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2490
System Preferences controls system-wide settings ("global" settings), and is available from the Apple menu at the upper-left corner of the screen.
Click the General setting and you can choose whether or not windows re-open.
Click the Users and Groups setting to adjust your login items.

  • ITunes keeps on opening up

I find it annoying. I eject the ipod from iTunes, then close out the program. A few seconds later, it recognizes the iPod again and re-opens. This happens sometimes 3 or 4 times. Does this happend to anybody else? I don't mind it recognizing it when I plug the iPod in, but when I close it, it should stay closes. Is there a setting for this? THanks,
    T

  • ITunes keeps re-opening

Every time I quit iTunes at the moment, it just keeps re-opening itself...any ideas how to stop this?
    cheers.

    Dave,
I've noticed a similar problem, though it occurs with only one account on our iMac. I've searched the knowledge base and forums and cannot find an answer. The problem occurs with my daughter's account (a limited account), and when she logs in, iTunes opens automatically. If she closes iTunes, it stays closed, but will reopen with each log in. No other account is so affected.
There are no widgets activated on my daughter's account, nor have there even been any activated. The iTunes widget is not activated on any other user account. I removed the iTunes Helper from among the log in items. I've looked through the iTunes preferences, and cannot find anything regarding the program automtically opening on log in.
Do you, or anyone for that matter, have any other suggestions?
    Regards,
    Joe

  • ITunes keep saying "Waiting for iPod" and cannot restore

When i try to restore my iPod, it keeps in waiting for ipod and in the ipod an apple and an empty bar..
Oh and i got the ipod so many months ago and I found it but when I connected it to itunes it said in serial number: n/d, ios: n/d , etc !
help please, is an ipod touch 4g 32gb !

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes does not open when ipod connected

Since installing the 1.1 update, iTunes does not open when I connect my nano to the computer. Both computer and iTunes (when I manually open it) recognize the nano, so no big deal. Just wondering how to make iTunes automatically open.

Sometimes the Preferences get corrupt - if you set them off and then back on that sometimes clears the problem.

  • Since downloading IOS 5 Itunes keeps randomly opening up  and popping up on my desktop screen, not just when I turn on computer but randomly even though I sign out of itunes. How can I stop this from happning

After installing ios5, itunes randomly opens up on my desktop on my laptop computer. Not just when I start my computer but when I'm on it. itunes just opens. I've searched settings in itunes and my desktop and don't know where to go to stop this from happening. itunes will just open. I've rebooted laptop and tried signing out of itunes and it still happens. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this stop??

While it is clearly the wifi syncing that is causing it, the device almost never shows up in the device list, and I've already unchecked that box.  I have two devices that I'd love to wifi sync, but neither show up today on the device list, despite iTunes continually popping up every 5 minutes or so.  Buggy...

  • Itunes doesn't open when ipod connects to pc

Itunes won't open automatically when I connect to my pc. I have to to click on the itunes icon. I have the box checked marked to open automatically under options.

    gta129,
Do you have iTunesHelper set to start up when you login? To check if it's in the list of login items:
    1. Open System Preferences.
    2. Click the Accounts pane.
    3. Select your user.
    4. Click the Login Items tab.
    5. See if iTunes Helper is listed here.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • ITunes won't open without ipod attached

I recently updated iTunes to 7.0.1. If I attempt to open iTunes without having my iPod attached it opens but before I can do any thing it is forced closed. A dialogue box pops up informing me that iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to be closed, I'm given the option to report the problem to Microsoft and close or just close. is anyone else encountering this?

    good lord.
okay, it's plausible that you've got two different problems going on at once here.
underlying it might be a version of a drive letter confusion:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
(see also the link to the MS KB doc)
... which is working so that either your My Music folder has either accidentally made its way on to the ipod, or that it's only being seen when the ipod is plugged in.
when it's not being seen, you get the problem described in this document:
iTunes for Windows: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes
... is there any particular reason why you have to have your "My Music" folder on your F drive, rather than your C drive?

  • ITunes Won't Open Without iPod Connected To Computer

Up until a day or so ago, I was able to open iTunes without the iPod attached. Now when I try to do so, it says the iTunes folder cannot be found or created and that the default location is in the "My Music" folder. When I then attach the iPod to the computer, everything works great. With the iPod attached and iTunes open, I changed the iTune preferences to reflect my actual music folder location (F:\My Music), but I still cannot get it to open without the iPod attached.

  • ITunes won't open when iPod is docked

Independently, both my iTunes and my iPod work fine. I always leave my iPod docked so it will stay charged, but when I click to open iTunes, the icon in the dock just bounces ; it never opens. If I pull the iPod out of the dock (even though it says Do Not Disconnect), iTunes opens fine. Then, I stick the iPod back in the dock, iTunes sees it, and immediately goes into iPod update. So, not a terrible problem, but how come I can no longer open iTunes while it's docked? I am afraid that one of these days, pulling the iPod out of the dock without unmounting it is gonna crash it.
    Any thoughts??
    Ben

    I have the same issue!!!
I have iTunes 6 and the latest software on my 3G iPod. I thought it was the iPod, so I completely formatted it in Disk Utility then restored it with a fresh copy of the iPod software. Once that was done, I auto-syned back into iTunes.
The same thing still happens. If the iPod is docked for only a minute or two I can update it in iTunes but after that, iTunes looks like it's updating but the thing never mounts. This is also the case when opening iTunes. I pull out the iPod and redocking gets it to work.
There is something going on with the newer versions of iTunes and the 3G iPods.

  • ITunes won't open when iPod is connected

    Hello,
I tried syncing my 3rd Generation Ipod Nano like I always do, via a dock connector and my laptop. But when I plugged it in it at first wasn't being recognized by iTunes (10), so I closed the program to see if a reboot of the program would solve the problem, and now iTunes just won't open while my iPod is plugged in to my laptop! Once I unplug though, iTunes pops back up!!
More information: It looks like my laptop may not be recognizing the USB Port that I plugged my dock connector in to. I don't get that symbol in the Notification Area that something is plugged in to a USB Port. I've tried other ones though, same problem.
I've also had to unplug my iPod from the connector without ejecting it (as iTunes wasn't recognizing the device, so I couldn't) will this damage my iPod?
