ITunes keeps shutting down

Every time I try to add or even view a demo of a video on iTunes, I get an error message that reads: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. I'm not savy with computers so I really don't know what's going on. I have a new 60 GB iPod with video. I'm not having any problems getting music into it, just with the videos. Can anyone help?

Well, at least I'm not alone in this. I too have reinstalled iTunes, to make sure that I have the latest version to no avail. I have purchased one video, it comes up on my account summry as bought, but it's no where to be found. I had also purchased an album that contained a video and after downloading all the songs, iTunes shut down when it came to downloading the video part. This was yesterday when that happened. So far, no one has offered an explaination on what might be the problem, hopefully someone will soon.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried something like the above then try opening iTunes in safe mode (press and hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases. You may find that iTunes opens normally now.

The five R's don't work because I don't have enough time to restore iPod before it shutsdown, and reinstalling iTunes didn't solve it either.

  • Itunes keeps shutting down when I connect my IPod Classic

Itunes shuts down whenever I connect my IPOD classic  and sync attempts to start.  I have had this IPod for several years and I have had Windows 7 for over 6 months.  I am trying to update versions, but I get an error message with that also.I have also seen posts on Microsoft and they aren't helpful.....I have seen many posts on Itunes also regarding same issue. What is up when the company will not fix their problems with the products?

I downloaded the 64bit system....did it like 3 times.   Finally, I found some other helpful hints.  I tried loading ITUNES in safe mode, still couldn't get it to not shutdown once I connected the IPod, I then logged into one of my other user accounts, then I was able to restore the settings, however, it removed all my songs and syned with the Itunes on that user acct (which was my nano IPod).  That was ok, because then I was able to go back to my regular account and sync and updated all my songs....just had to have my kids authorize me again on Itunes.  Think it's a racket to keep upgrading, changing things and not supporting the stuff that still works.....my classic works just fine nd holds 5,000 songs...I only have about 1500; so I have long way to go.  When my display cracked and the LCD was all messed up. I sent it to IFIXIPODS fast.com and they replaced it, quick and cheap--hats off to them!

  • ITunes keeps shutting down when I try to go to the iTunes store

iTunes works fine on my laptop, until i try to click on the store.  it gets about half way booted up and then shuts down the entire program.  I have thought about downloading the entire program all over again on the web, but have close to 3000 songs and apps on my iPad I am nervous of losing.  thoughts?

How did you get the songs on you iPad? My library contains over 18,000 songs in it and I have a portable hard drive that I use as a back up, not only for my music but for everything else on my computer. I accidentally deleted my library once and had to restore everything from scratch, so I learned to back everything up so in case the computer bites the dust, everything is on a portable drive, which I also take with me when I leave the house so also in case of a robbery and the computers are stolen, I have everything that is on them.

  • Itunes keeps shutting down immediately upon opening

Can anyone help me?  I've updated all software and uploaded the latest version of iTunes (Beta iTunes 10.3).  It shuts down immediately upon opening.  (It has done this with the last version of iTunes as well)
I thought the original problem was the fact iTuneshelper was open so I located and deleted ituneshelper from "system preferences", "accounts" "login items".
Any other recommendations?  Appreciate any suggestions.

Tried deleting iTunes again and still getting "This operation cannot be completed because the item "iTunesHelper" is in use.

  • I am running windows 7. My itunes keep shutting down on me. I keep getting the message itunes has stopped working What can I do?

I keep getting the message itunes has stopped working. A problem has caused itunes to stop working correctly. What can be the cause?

    Hello Main Event,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I found this article while researching iTunes quitting unexpectedly on Windows 7 and feel it will help to resolve the issue here.
iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
It starts with troubleshooting 3rd party plug ins, then moves on to account troubleshooting if needed.
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any inference with plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down the Shift and Control keys while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
After clicking Continue, determine whether the issue you were experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you see the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the Create a New User Account section below. If you do not experience the same issue, consult iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-insfor steps on how to remove third-party plug-ins.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Itunes keep shutting down after opening

I have uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled and still after I open it and it is "Matching" with iTunes Store and boom it comes up with iTunes not responding and shuts me down.  Where do I go from here?  It is a Microsoft Windows box and it says "iTunes has stopped working" and then another box comes up and says iTunes has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.  (It never does.....)  Help..........

I'm having the same problem.  I have upgraded to the latest version today, and it's still having the same problem, but worse.  Now I have to close and reopen iTunes 2 or 3 times before it starts to work properly.

  • My itunes keeps shutting down whenever I connect my ipod.  It works otherwise however.

My story is long.  Yesterday, I tried to connect my iPod to my computer to allow it to charge.  Itunes crashed and my computer told me my iPod needed to be reformated.  So I went through the procedures as it showed me on the screen and reformated the iPod.  I tried plugging it in and itunes still crashed.  I've tried reinstalling itunes, resetting the iPod to factory settings (using the itunes program on another computer), restarting the services in administrative tools, deauthorizing and reauthorizing the account, changing the drive letter, and just about everything else I've read that might help online and none of it works.  I tried putting in my brother's iPod to test to see if itunes would work then, and it did.  I'm not sure what the problem is though since I reset the iPod to factory defaults.  Can somebody help?
