Itunes keeps telling me my ipod is in recovery mode

Help! When I connect my ipod to the computer i am told every time by itunes that my ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored before it can be used with itunes. I have restored my ipod multiple times, reinstalled itunes. Stayed on hold 2 hours with apple support and gave up. Can anyone help me please!

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive

If it's in recovery mode, you'll have to restore it.  No choice.

  • IPod classic: itunes tells me that my ipod is in recovery mody and needs to be restored. It then says that when it is restored that it will appear in the left sidebar however it never does. any ideas why??

I haven't used my iPod in a few months so I charged it up, updated my itunes and everything was going fine. However when I connected the iPod to the computer and went into itunes, a message kept popping up telling me my iPod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. I clicked on the restore option then a message telling me my ipod had been restored popped up, it also said that my iPod would appear on the left sidebar of itunes once it had restarted and to leave it connected to the computer. The apple symbol appeared on the iPod and it appeared to be restarting. While I waited for the iPod to show up in itunes it turned itself on, after another few minutes the original message popped up telling me that the iPod needs to be restored. I have tried this many times but to no avail. I have also carried out numerous procedures said to solve this problem including changing the letter of the iPod drive but still nothing works!!! I don't know what else to do!! Has any experienced the same problem? Any ideas on how to get this working??

    Hey saandyy,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can try to restart the iPhone to exit recovery mode.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • IPOD is in recovery mode

No matter what I try, and I have tried all of the suggestions I have found on Apple.. re troubleshooting, all 5 R'S have been tried along with some other suggestions found on Apple.com support...
ITUNES keeps telling me that the 30 GB IPOD I just bought is in recovery mode and needs to be restored... I have re-installed ITUNES, RESTORED IPOD, and it still comes ups... HELP!
I even tried setting up the USB to make sure USB does NOT shut off the port if not in use to save power....
System keeps telling me the IPOD is in REVOVERY MODE and to restore, even right after I have just restored....
This only happens on a DELL Laptop and NOT my DELL Desktop.... This IPOD is a gift and I tried to set it up tonight with my Daughter's music which I converted from protected WMA to MP3... I have an external drive with all the music and was able to access it via the desktop and set the IPOD...but it keeps giving me the error message when I plug it into the laptop.....
Works great on the desktop, but NOT the laptop...
DELL 1.8 Ghz, -- 768 RAM, about 14 GB'S free on Laptop drive and another 100GB'S free on External drive....
    DELL   Windows XP   IPOD 30GB

    Have you tried this?:
First, restore your iPod once more.
    Then, close iTunes.
Log off of any other users on your computer, and see these steps below:
1 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
2 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
3 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, connect your iPod to the computer.
4 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
These steps (restore the iPod, then re-assign the drive letter) basically parallels the suggestions in this article:
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore"
    I hope that helps you.

  • IPod is in recovery mode, can't restore

Over the last week, my iPod has refused to wake after I've locked it. The only solution was to connect it to the mains and reset it. It has done this three times so far. I decided to restore my iPod in hopes of fixing the issue. I clicked the restore button in iTunes and was met with the following message:
"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1600)."
I held down the reset buttons and the iPod once again connected to iTunes, which explained that the iPod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored before it can be used. I clicked the restore button, and I just got the same error message.
I'm running 3.1.2 (which has just been terribly buggy since 3.0) on my 1G touch and have Windows 7 64-bit.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks

I'm glad I'm not alone. So far I have just tried restoring it over and over again. At one point I had success - the iPod booted and I could actually use it. iTunes then asked me if I wanted to set it up as a new iPod or restore from a backup. Obviously I chose restore from backup and the process started. At the end of the process I got an error message saying it couldn't be restored. I have had the errors 1600, 6, 13 and 2005.
When I hold the sleep/home buttons when connected to the PC iTunes recognises the iPod, but the screen of the iPod doesn't turn on unless I choose to restore. I can't use the iPod at all when it's disconnected from the PC.
I don't know what else to do. I think I might just buy a 3G one even though it's not really an improvement over the 2G.

Have you tried rebooting for the Mac and iPod to see if that helps? To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
It wouldn't hurt to also try plugging the iPod into another USB port and use a different USB sync cable.

  • ITunes keeps telling me I need to authorize...

iTunes keeps telling me I need to authorize my new computer and then tells me I already have but won't let me play some of my music as the "you need to authorize" popup, comes right back. What can I do to fix this? One of my friends said that I could hook my iPod back up and it should fix it but I don't want to do that until I'm sure as I don't want it to decide I can't play the music from my iPad either. I can still play the music on my old laptop so I just don't want to jinx things.

After I updated to iOS 7.0.2, my iTunes keeps telling me to restore my iPhone, after I restored it. Can someone tell me what I can do to fix this?

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset   >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Backing up, Updating and Restoring  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...
