Itunes killed my soundcard

Ok, had itunes 8.0 worked great, downloaded 8.1 and the S hit the fan. My Soundcard went kablooey. So to fix this i uninstalled itunes and reinstalled my soundcard drivers, now my sound works but I cant reinstall Itunes because when i try I get an error message "The file 'itunes.library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes". So, I try and redownload the entire thing from the itunes site and some MS security feature called the DEP keepps blocking my attempted DL's. So any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Can't help you with the DEP error, but
"The file 'itunes.library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes".
usually means you downgraded itunes, like went from 8.1 back to 8.0. Is that what you did?
If so, you should be able to use the ITL file that is stored in a folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries*.

  • ITunes kills my network

Hi, I've seen a number of threads in the past about iTunes killing the network.  I'm trying to download the latest firmware for my iPad (4.3.2) but I am unable to do so as my network dies.  It only happens when I use iTunes.  I am on an ADSL Router, and it seems that it kills my connection between my PC (10.1.1.3) and my router/gateway (10.1.1.1)  As I type, my PC has been happily pinging the default gateway for 30 minutes now, but as soon as I try to download apps or the firmware, anytime between immediately and 60 seconds, it starts displaying "General Failure" and "Request timed out" randomly until it dies.  I then get random replies of "Reply from 10.1.1.3: Destination host unreachable." The firmware won't allow me to resume the download after it dies, which make it that much more difficult.

I have also tried updating from version 7 to 8 Itunes. This did not fix the issue.

  • New Prob. iTunes kills browser functionality. Have to reboot sat. modem.

When I start iTunes, my browser functionality is killed in both Firefox and IE. Pages start to load and then say, 'done'. Blank browser screen. Email and IM still function normally. I have to close browsers and then reboot my satellite modem before browser function returns. Any clues? I love iTunes and have committed my entire library to it, but I'm at my wits end. Life without music? Thanks.

Turn off the sharing functionality (both the "look for shared music" as well as the "share my music") and the functionality that lets it look for and find remote speakers. That will most likely prevent it from freezing your satellite modem when you start iTunes.
Also, look into a software or firmware upgrade for your satellite modem, since it obviously has some kind of bug internally as well.

  • Itunes killed my ipod classic

itunes recently killed two classic 160gb ipods I have within a week of each other when the new version of itunes (10?) was released.  I received at different times the following errors
"can't connect to drive f:\"  error
"the ipod cannot by synched. The desk can not be read or written to"  error
"the ipod cannot by synched. An unknown error occured (-124)" error
"the ipod cannot by synched. The required folder cannot be found" error
    "disconnect  retry  cancel" error
My ipod began skipping songs, it would no longer sync and itunes would freeze when the ipods were connected to my computer.
My ipod shows that it is synchronizing when it is not (I had to set it to manual sync to avoid other errors).   then itunes doesn't run or respond within windows.  I eject the ipod. nothing happens.  I have to physically disconnect the ipod without ejecting in itunes to get itunes to run.
I've reset the ipods.  I put them in Disk Mode. I've connected them to other computers that have itunes 10.  Nothing works.  Nothing.  I've read every discussion group, loaded every driver.  Prayed to every saint.
I use an old itunes version (8.0.2.20) because I prefer it to the newer versions that don't have the    Genre     Artist     Album    list categories along the top of itunes.  After declining yet another update, my two ipod classic (160 gb) would no longer synchronize, producing the errors above.   At the iPod store on Chestnut St in SF, I get a sneer and a shrug, and I am told I can get my (out of warranty) iPods repaired for $179 each + $59 for the one whose battery died when I (tried but failed to) manually load overnight the music I lost.
Apple ate $600 of my products and 60+ hours of my time.  May I please just sell them back my classic ipods and buy different MP3 players?  Apple is my least favorite consumer company in my history of buying products of any kind.
Has anyone experienced similar synchronization errors using windows or a Lenovo T500 or itunes 8.0.2.20 with classic 160gb ipods?   If so, would you please recommend a solution to solving my synchronization problems?    Thanks in advance.

No such thing as "manual sync"! You either use Sync to synchronize your iPod with iTunes (look up synhronize - or synchronise in a dictionary) or you manually manage. If you have somehow managed to manually sync, that's probably why you're having problems.

That's definitely not a good idea. If you physically disconnect an iPod (or other storage media) from your computer while the computer is talking to it, you will probably cause corrupted files on the iPod.
The best way to recover from "iPod won't eject" is to turn off the computer, then physically disconnect the iPod. (Once the computer is turned off, you know that it cannot be talking to the iPod.

    What?
    That's simply not true!
Go (in iTunes) to and select View/Column Browser/Show Column Browser. If it is already showing or once you have it showing, go back into View/Column Browser and below the option to Hide Column Browser will be a menu for Artist, Album, Genre etc. Unfortunately, each one has to be selected one-at-a-time.
My advice to you is install the latest version of iTunes. Then try connecting your iPods to the new version and then get iTunes to check for and install the latest version of software (also known as the operating system or iOS) onto the iPod. Check each and every iPod. If iTunes tells you that the iPod needs a restore, make sure that's done with the latest iTunes.
If you are stuck at that point, post back into this thread again with precise information about what does or does not happen.
By the way - if you connect your iPod to a different iTunes, you run the risk of deleting everything off your iPod if you do not follow the prompts carefully. In addition, if that iTunes updates the operating system of the iPod, then almost certainly that iPod will no longer work with iTunes 8.

  • ITunes Killed my iPod

I just installed iTunes update/version 7.6 and it killed my iPod. My computer is not recognized by any computer now. I plugged my iPod into 5 different computers and none saw the iPod. All are running Windows XP Pro, and 3 had iTunes 7.6 and 2 had iTunes 7.5. My son had not updated to iTunes 7.6 and his Nano works fine on all computers. So the problem evidently is that iTunes did something to the iPod. I hope Apple figures out a quick, $0 fix since their problem rendered a lot of iPods useless. If they don't, a lot of loyal iPod owners may be converting to a Zune very quickly. If anyone knows a fix, I would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

I just fixed the problem by doing a hard reset on the Nano. Turn the Nano on, then simultaneously push Menu and center button, holding them down until the iPod reboots itself.

  • ITunes killing my wireless

Installing iTunes 9.1.1.12 64-bit on my HP 5380sc (Win7 64-bit) kills my wireless connection. Using Win restore point prior to installing iTunes, makes my wireless work again. I have tried this several times with the same result.
    /Johnny

This might be a conflict due to Bonjour for Windows. I think iTunes installs Bonjour by default now, but I could be wrong about that.
Check your Add/Remove Programs for "Bonjour". If it is there, uninstall it, reboot, and see if that helps.

  • ITunes kills my Audigy2 (after uninstall)

I bought a copy of Quicktime 7, but was forced to install iTunes to get it. I don't want to discuss the pros/cons of iTunes. I hate it and uninstalled it after getting QT7 installed. However, ever since then, my Audigy 2 has lost sound 3 times, forcing me to uninstall the drivers, reboot and reinstall the drivers to get sound back. Needless to say, this has left me quite perturbed. I'd like to know what iTunes may have changed in my system to cause this problem. I have installed no other software within a week before this problem and have had no issues with my Audigy 2 until now leaving the trail pointing directly at iTunes. I am a tech by trade, so don't feel you need to baby-step me. That will only waste your time and mine. Note that while I selected XP Pro as my OS, it's actually XP x64 edition (there was no option for that in the list).

As an update to my original post, it seems when I play flash animations (well, one in particular for certain, not sure about in general), it kills my sound. This still traces back to iTunes however, as I use it constantly as my alarm and it worked fine for over a year prior. So it would seem that somehow iTunes has affected Macromedia Flash on my computer. I've already tried reinstalling Flash over itself. Next step is completely removing flash and reinstalling from scratch. Still, I would appreciate if someone in support could look into this and try to determine what iTunes might have changed to break Flash.

  • I killed my Soundcard?

    Hello,
I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.
I was listening to music when I plugged in my camera's capture cable into the FireWire port.
I heard a quick 'poof' and the sound was gone.
I restarted Windows in hope of recovery, ever since I get an error when trying to listen to sound:
    I get the following error:
-When trying to start Speaker settings: 'the audio device supported by this application is not detected'.
-When trying to play music in MediaSource: 'UYnable to open the necessary device for playback, it may be in use or unavailable'.
Would it be possible to have killed it's
    Many thanks in advance,
    Eelco
in case its useful info: It's a Soundblaster 2 zs.

Late update from me, but it works again.
after completely deconstructing my workspace to reach the inside of my computer, I discovered, that when I inserted the FireWire cable, I pushed the soundcard out of its pci socket.
Because of my tiny computer case, I can't get a scre in there to hold it in its place.

  • ITunes "killed"

The following is an example of a console message left after iTunes crashes.
    12/4/09 11:37:58 AM kernel CODE SIGNING: csinvalidpage(0x2de000): p=259\[iTunes\] clearing CS_VALID
    12/4/09 11:37:58 AM com.apple.launchd\[117\] (\[0x0-0x32032\].com.apple.iTunes\[259\]) Exited: Killed
But I say "crashes" above but in all honesty it doesn't really crash as much as it simply ceases to exist. No crash reporter, no warning, no recover dialogue boxes, etc. In fact, it is as if the system literally uses the UNIX "Kill" pid command.
Here is how it works.... every time! Open iTunes, select a Home share if one is present - killed. Or open iTunes, select iTunes DJ, there will be an intro screen with a continue button, select continue - killed.
I have deleted all things "com.apple.itunes..." I even deleted the cache.db. I received the new install/first time use screens and had to reauthorize etc. Still same issue.
    Anyone?

deleting everything again and used the mpkg to reinstall.... now it works...

  • ITunes killed my sound card (code 52 in device manager)

I am running Win 7 x64 and installed iTunes for the first time yesterday and today I have no sound. I looked in the device manager and I have a yellow exclamation mark next to my sound card (Asus Xonar DS PCI). In the error description it says:-
'Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)'
After googling I notice this is a known issue with iTunes. Normally this problem affects optical drives in which case it is fixed by deleting the UpperFilters somewhere in the registry.
BUT what do I do in the case of a broken sound card?
    Grateful for any help!

Sorry, when I said 'kill' i meant it stopped it from playing sound not actually damaging the hardware. I am guessing iTunes must be installing an unsigned driver which hooks into the sound card driver and hence windows believes the sound card driver is unsigned. And because 64-bit windows requires drivers to be signed it blocks the device from starting. Just my guess correct me if i'm wrong.
To be honest, i cant see a different pci slot working as it seems more like a problem on the driver level rather than IRQ conflicts etc.
Changing sound card may work because it would be using a different driver altogether (Realtek HD audio), but that would be £40 wasted on my new sound card. Actually I might be better off selling it and getting better speakers instead.
If I get the time, I will try once more installing itunes with the Xonar and then with the Realtek.
Will post results when i get them.

  • ITunes killed my burner! Any solutions?

I upgraded to iTunes 8.0.2 and now cannot burn a disc. Unfortunately now I cannot seem to burn ANYTHING with ANY software.
In iTunes, the disc spins up to burn, but it jumps straight from the first track to "Finishing Disc Burn" and hangs there indefinitely. Nothing is ever written to disc, and short of using the drutil in Terminal, you have to restart to eject the tray. When using toast, I get a drive read error, whether it be attempting to burn an audio CD or a DVD-video.
Does anybody have or know about a solution??
Having read many of the threads, I know this is a widespread issue. I have tried repairing disk permissions (duh), doing a pram reset, removing the plist files, all to no avail.
This reminds me of not too long ago when an airport update completely screwed up my machine's ability to receive ANY wireless signal, thanks Apple. It seems that this iTunes issue would be easy enough to detect before releasing it, many of us have not been able to burn since literally the MOMENT after installation.
    Can anyone help??

Update: I was able to burn a CD in iTunes but ONLY at 6x speed. Though this is a good sign, it's still annoying to be only using a small percentage of the drive's capability. Any insights are much appreciated.

  • Itunes killed the internet... HELP!

    Hi,
I just updated my Itunes, and when I did all sorts of crazy stuff happened. First of all, it told me I couldn't do it because it shared files with AIM. So I closed that out and updated. When I restarted, I can no longer connect to the internet and a meesage says that Itunes has an error and won't open when I click on it, but it still opens and works perfectly fine. I tried to uninstall it, but when I click uninstall under My Computer-> Add/remove programs, the uninstall wizard starts to load but then closes out without giving any message or reason. I tried to reinstall over it as well with the original disk, and I get similar results.
Does anyone have any idea what happened to my computer or am I going to have to bring it in to get fixed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try a QuickTime standalone install.

Make sure you save it to your hard drive - don't run the install over the internet.

    hi there,
after a few day´s of iTuning around my system breaks !! CAUSED BY ITUNES !!
it started with few hangs by downriding the system.
reboot by holding power-key for 4sec. etc,. after upriding all hardware again the system wasnt able to switch on log-mode.
so i aborted the start-up procedure to restart and enter the repair-console. it plunges out that some usb-mobile device had some yaddayadda-blahblah! okay! reboot! ..and ?
yup- sys blocks before win-log !! so i decided to do some concerning things:
i plugged the iphone to my system and ... tadaa !! everything cool -unbelieveable :
when iphone connected to hal - everything works beautifully.. but if not,
my computer was f....d up! no up or downriding, ..just like a little hardeware-firewall that authorizes my windows log-in!
you all can imagine.. this was slowly beginning to pi.. me off!!
so after signing up my iphone itunes lifetime was depleted.

    system bandwith! (except qt-data)

    Hi James
Have you had any luck resolving this? I'm trying to achieve the same thing. I found this post : Re: Running trial version on 64bit machine where the final comment says it is not possible.
I was wondering if the latest version (SR1 SP3) can be loaded on Win 7 64 but I don't want to go through a big download that may not work. Unfortunately where I live broadband is very expensive
    Cheers

  • Itunes Kills my wireless network??

Any one have any idea why when I am using Itunes it disconnects me from my wireless network? When I have it connected via a cat5 cable it works fine. I have a server with all my tunes on it and my entire library is on there. This system has been working fine for years until I went to a wireless card in my own pc. Windows media player streams my tunes fine across the network. I am using a TP-LINK TL-WN651G adapter running at 54mbs. The network drops out after about 15-20secs of playing a song or adding one etc etc.
    Please help

I have also tried updating from version 7 to 8 Itunes. This did not fix the issue.
