ITunes latest update

I haven't updated iTunes for a while and now I cant upgrade from 10.6.3 to the latest version.
When I click check for updates it tells me that 10.6.3 is the latest so I'm stuck.
Any help would be great, thanks.

What is your MacOS X version? The latest iTunes version 11.0.5 requires 10.6.8 or later.
Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
iTunes 10.7 would also require  Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP590

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • Problems with iTunes Latest Update?

Have you had problems with your Apple devices after installing the latest iTunes update?  If so, read below.
This is long but worth your time to read if you have a music library.   I have the problem with my iMac and my iPhone 5.  Maybe more devices but I'm not connecting them to my computer.  On Saturday the 8th of December I connected my 5 to my iMac.  It deleted all of my songs on my phone.  Several attempts to put the songs back on my phone got only about 700 added.  I had over 12,000 songs on my phone before the update deleted them.  One of the tech's was able to help me get the songs back on my 5 but I don't know what this update has done to it.  Then while looking at my library on my Mac I noticed that the ratings column was blank and the plays column blank too.  I have over 35,000 songs on my computer and all with ratings so this is a big deal to me.  I started calling Apple at 1:00 pm and talked to seven techs by about 6:30pm. One went to a supervisors computer and he checked to see if his ratings were there and they were not.  He played the song and the rating returned so they asked me to play a song.  While it was playing some of my ratings and plays returns so we thought that fixed it and ended the call. About ten minutes later all of them had disappeared again.  I was assigned a senior advisor and was told I would be called back by a the software department within 48 hours.  No call back yet.  Since then I have had two entire songs disappear.  I had written down that I had 35,297 songs and now have 35,295.  Album and song names have also disappeared.  I tried restarting my Mac but it did not help.  Today I e-mailed my Apple contact and asked for an update on any progress made but have not heard anything.  So here is my question to you.  Is your music and video library all there after the latest update?  Very likely not.

Sorry this happened to you, too. In my case, I still had another computer, a Mini, on which I had not made the update. Since my library is on its own HD, it was a simple matter of removing iTunes 11 and then copying 10.7 back onto the iMac. iTunes 11 is, IMO, Apple's biggest blunder in the nearly 29 years I've been using Macs.

  • ITunes latest update 10.5 affects Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)I have a couple year old Macbok pro with Intel Processor. I am running the latest version of Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  After updating to the new iTunes version 10.5, two of my three USB Jump drives would no longer function. The INFO showed I had about 50% of the space still available. Errors included "out of available space and somrthing about corrupt data. After spending hours on the phone with Apple Support, I ended up reinstalling the OSX Operating System This did not fix the problem. Turns out my third jump drive worked just fine. The difference between the jump drives was the first two were formatted FAT16. The third was formatted FAT32. After using the OSX Disc Utility to reprogram the first two drives to FAT32 they worked just fine. SO BEWARE!! The iTunes update to 10 seems to have affected the OSX Operating System compatability and now FAT32 is required. I am not a very experienced Mac User so perhaps there will be some posts about this that will explain what may really be happening here.

This is one of the most confusing problems I have ever read.
First you say you have upgraded from 10.5 (Leopard) to 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
Then you say that "About this Mac" says you have 10.9.1 (Mavericks).
Then you again say you upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6.
The only thing that seems to make sense of this, and what I suspect is you got confused, thought you had 10.5/10.6 and borked your Safari install by running an old updater for Safari 5.
That, or you have an old copy of Safari sitting somewhere, and you are trying to run that instead of the one in the Applications folder.
v5.1.10 is the last version of Safari for 10.6 (Snow Leopard), though some dev previews of 6 could be installed.
v6.1.1 is the current version for OS X 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
v7.0.1 is the current version and it requires OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).

  • IMac G4 won't boot after install of iTunes latest update

I just updated my iTunes software via download. I have the iMac configured to ID when new updates are available. After download I selected the "restart" option. Computer shut off and upon power up will not proceed past blue start up screen with the progress bar and "starting MAC OSX...." text. I have tried power down/power up. It has been at least an hour and still on blue screen. I have never had a problem in 5 years. Any ideas?

Hi Dean, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Unbeknownst to you, you had problems on your HD before the update.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
An Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc...

  • TS1741 Remote no longer connects to iTunes - since latest updates.

Was working just fine before latest updates.  All devices (iPhone 4 & iPad) have Home Sharing enabled as well as iTunes. Windows 8.
    Anyone else?
Are we waiting for a fix?
    Thank you.

OK IT IS WORKING FOR ME NOW.
I am not sure if this is what fixed it, but it wasn't working, I did the following and now it works. It's worth trying...
    - In iTunes preferences under "sharing" I un-checked "share my library on my local network" and hit OK.
    - In iTunes "advanced" menu bar, clicked "Turn Off Home Sharing" and then turned it back on.
    - Re-checked "share my library on my local network" under preferences.
    - Quit and re-start iTunes.
Again, I don't know which of these steps fixed the issue (if any) but now both my remote app (iPhone4) and AppleTV (2nd gen) connect fine to my iTunes 10.1.2 library.
    Good luck!

  • I got the MSCVR80.ddl message after I tried to do the latest update on Itunes.  I went in and deleted all the related programs and reinstalled, but I keep getting a message during installation that "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Help!

I was trying to do the latest update on my desktop for my Itunes.  I got MSVCR80.dll is missing.  I saw a post about deleting all the apple itunes programs, restarting and reinstalling.  I tried that.  As it was installing a message came up about "Service'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start systems services.  I did a retry, got the same message, then hit ignore.  It went on.  Then a message popped up saying "Itunes not installed correctly"  Error 7 (Windows error 126)
Now my Itunes program will not open at all.  What gives?  This is very frustrating and I am not very computer literate to begin with.

  • The latest update for Itunes is messed up.

Hi all. I am on Windows 7. I have never had a problem with the Itunes updates until now. I did the latest update and now Itunes wont open. I get an error message saying that Itunes was installed incorrectly and MSVCR80.dll is not installed on my computer. Is the a problem with my computer?
Should I try reinstalling itunes? Will I lose all 40gb of music? Just not sure what to do.
    Thanks everyone.

EXACT same error msg happened to me.  I have un-installed i Tunes and Re Installed i Tunes and also Quick Time as well as re booted computer NUMEROUS times.  Only to have the SAME situation as I began with!  Help!! It all began when I updated to the latest i Tunes, just like so many others!

  • Installed latest update and restarted computer and iTunes wont open!

I have just installed the latest update to iTunes and restarted the computer when told to and went to open iTunes to sync my latest songs and it says:
"iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missed.
    Please reinstall iTunes."
This would result in me loosing all my music so I hope you have a solution.

A simple thing to try is a repair install. You can do this from programs on Control panel, or you can download the iTunes installer and save in on your PC. When you run it it will give the option to repair if it is the same version as the one you have installed.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Otherwise, in the past this has been associated with Spyware Terminator blocking things, but that was a while ago.
The other thing to check for is malware. You can download a free version of malwarebytes to do the scan:

  • I am unable to install the latest update to iTunes, I get constant error messages, even when I attempt to uninstall iTunes completely and start afresh, iTunes is still listed in my program files on my hard drive and the shortcut is still on my desktop!?

Is there a bug with the latest update to iTunes because I am unable to install it, I get constant error messages if I try to open it after installing

    Hey there Mambo822,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after installing a recent update. I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following article:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling
