Here is some stuff to get you started.
First be sure your system is free of viruses and spyware, if you don’t have a spyware scanner Ewido is free:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
The first question is does Quicktime work? iTunes can’t work if Quicktime doesn’t.
Try opening the Quicktime player and play a track.
If Quicktime doesn't work, uninstall it.
Then download and install the stand alone Quicktime without iTunes (the second option in the link):
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
If Quicktime does work, work through this article on troubleshooting launch failures:

  • TS1717 iTunes launch error message

Launched iTunes and received a I do not have permission to access my iTunes library.  Message said it was locked?  It is my machine and I have admin rights to open any of the four drives connected to it.  What is up with that?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

    Hi lilnikeair!
Since iTunes uses QuickTime to play audio/video content in iTunes, that error message most likely indicates that there's a problem with your Quicktime installation.

  • ITunes Bus Error: 10 Crashes on Launch

For the past week or so, iTunes has been working sporadically. The basic problem that happens every other iTunes launch (not exactly every other time) is that iTunes will crash after roughly 30 seconds of being open. The amount of time that it takes to crash has nothing to do with what I do during those 30 seconds. I have already tried re-installing Quicktime and iTunes, as well as removing all audio kernel-extensions, and iTunes plugins. I finally decided to do the brute work and see exactly what was crashing so I opened up the ./iTunes/Contents/MacOS/iTunes file in terminal and after 30 seconds of running fine it outputted this: "Bus Error: 10" I have no clue what this means, and the crash report that I found in Console.app didn't shed any light on it either.
    Now on to the specs:
    iTunes version 10.2.1
Mac OS X version 10.7 (Dev preview [its not lion thats causing the problem, it also happened in Snow Leopard])
MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15"2 with 2GB of RAM and 2.16GHZ of CPU
P.S. I don't know if its relevant but a lot of my Cider-powered games have been giving me complaints about my audio setup, something to do with mal-configured outputs...?

    Hello again, Patrick.
    Fault Module Name: StackHash_0a9e
    Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Given that your QuickTime is launching, that rules out old misplaced QuickTime componentry (which is one possibility with a Stackhash result like that).
Next thing I've tended to associate Stackhashes with in the past is user account specific issues, like damaged library files or preference files. So it's probably best next to check to see if the problem is confined to a single user account, as per:
[iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717]
If it is a single user account issue, I'd check through the user-specific troubleshooting possibilities in there.

  • ITunes will not launch "Can not find "iTunes.exe"" error

iTunes is not launching on my computer.  Initially it stated" "Can not find "iTunes.exe"" error.  But now it doesn't do anything.
    Thanks,

Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
that corresponds to a "standalone 1603" error message on earlier versions of the itunes and quicktime installers.
    let's try this first.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does that go through okay this time?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes launches, "experiences unexpected error," quits

I've experienced this problem for a few weeks: iTunes launches, acts like it's connecting to the store, then quits. When I "fool it" by backdooring the store through Purchased Music (then following the arrows next to song titles), it goes to the proper page, but there are no graphics or music descriptions--just a list of songs for purchase. I can also navigate through iTunes after backdooring, but the homepage only has pictures--no titles, descriptions, lists, etc. I've tried installing newest iTunes a number of times. Same error.

I've been having this same problem for a few months as well, even BEFORE the 2.1 update. There are countless threads on this issue, but Apple support refuses to do anything about it.

  • I have an Ipod Classic, one day he appears without music, now that i want to sync with my itunes an error occur. I download all the new itunes version and ipod software but again error. How do I make it work?

My ipod classic, have these problem:
One day I find out that all the music was completely gone, I always charged the ipod on Ihome.
So, I connect the ipod to my computer to sync the music, but mi computer recognize the ipod as a memory device. so delete itunes from my computer, following some support guides that i found in the mac support web. Again, it didnt work. The itunes doesnt detect it.
then I try to sync on a macbook, then it told it was corrupted i should restore th ipod, i try it but this could not be done... cause an error occur.
How I can restore my ipod...

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

    hi hope!
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to
    close
the first thing that i check for when people report
getting that message when they try to launch
their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly,
or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll
try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone
installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install
from there rather than online.) switch off
antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes
    launch properly again?

reinstall, let us know what it says. include error
message numbers if you're getting any.)
    love, b
I have tried that, to restarting the computer, to trying to see if someone else's iTunes work, and it's capute. I just don't know what to do execpt for to try to find which programs have been discontinued on the computer but forgot how to get there.

  • HT1222 "Data Execution Prevention" not letting ITunes launch. How do I remove DEP?

How do I get rid of Data Execution Prevention!!!??? All of a sudden this annoying little program wont allow me to open Itunes!! I tried turning it off the way they said to but it still blocks itunes. I even reinstalled Itunes No luck  I still cant use Itunes  HELP!!!

And no problem for "barging in"; your expertise in solving Windows issues is always welcome. Cheers.
    Thank you.
The situation with these changed up a bit with the introduction of the iTunes 10.5.x versions and above. (A "new problem wearing old trousers" event.) I have a note in the Full Host Bar about it, though it's speculative. Here's the content of the post there:
There's various possible causes for DEP errors when launching iTunes for Windows. But in recent times we've been able to get past a number of them by updating folk's QuickTime Player to the latest version. For example:
Re: When I tried to update to 10.6.3 it failed
The interesting thing about that is that since iTunes for Windows 10.5.x, you aren't supposed to need QuickTime for Windows componentry to be installed in order for iTunes for Windows to launch. So it's not likely that the DEP errors are being caused purely by the lack of QuickTime componentry on the PCs in question (or by the lack of new-enough versions of QuickTime componentry on the PCs in question).
One putative mechanism for what's going on.
I've noticed (in the course of other experimentation) that if the QuickTime Player is uninstalled on an XP system and iTunes for Windows (some version post 10.5.x) is launching, I can get a message saying that certain kinds of content can't be played because QuickTime isn't installed.
So there's a task performed by iTfW when launched to check on the presence of certain types of QTfW componentry. If the answer is "that componentry is not present", a routine is run that shows the dialog saying that certain content can't be played.
It's plausible that Data Execution Prevention is interpreting the routine that produces the dialog as being a malicious act on some systems, and throwing the DEP error when the routine is run.
That would explain why updating (or possibly installing) the latest version of the QuickTime Player is getting people past the DEP errors. The check for QTfW componentry is run when itunes launches, but it determines that the componentry is present. So the routine that produces the dialog isn't run, and Data Execution Prevention doesn't feel compelled to throw the DEP error.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

  • ITunes gives error code -54 when sync with my iphone 5

iTunes gives error code (-54) when i try to sync with my iphone5

I am having the same issue. Since updating to iTunes 11 my iPhone 5 will no longer wirelessly sync. I am operating the latest version of Mountain Lion on a two month old Macbook Pro. When I plug in the USB I go through the steps of making sure the box is clicked to Wireslly sync, but after a few minutes of un-plugging the cord my phone dissapears from my devices. It tries to locate it, but cannot.
Furthermore, when I launched iTunes 11 for the first time my phone was synced, but since I accidenttly hit the eject button in the top right, this button has yet to come back. Even when the iPhone is linked via USB. Am I Crazy, stupid, or is this a bug?
BTW, how did MrTrav15 have this problem on 10/17 a month-and-a-half before the launching of iTunes 11?
