ITunes library , accidental deletion

Hi every body ,
In order to create space in my hard drive i accidentally removed all the music files from the Music folder of the Users group in my Mac OS X .It apparently resulted in emptying all my music in itunes
I want to know , do we need to store a copy of every music file on the itunes somewhere in the Harddrive or the itunes has its own storage place ? Because previously i deleted a couple of songs from the music folder , however they were up and running on itunes ???
Or did I accidentally deleted a library file from the music folder ???
Help required !!!

I made sure that I didnt delete the itunes folder , but somehow i believe something got deleted and this has left a vacant spot in my MAC .
Yes the playlist have gone as well !
So , now just to clear up or rather summarize everything - once a file is saved in itunes , we can remove it from else where right , provided we do the below :
Just a caution: To achieve this behaviour, you have to set an option in the  import settings in
iTunes Preferences -> Advanced :
"Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to the Library" must be set to "on",

PLEASE HELP!!!  Somehow my entire iTunes library got deleted, and I cannot sync all my music that I put on from cd's (which I no longer have). All the purchased music has been synced, but nothing else! All my other devices are synced with iCloud and lost the material as well ... I am so frustrated, because the nano has not been working properly, and I am afraid of losing it forever, and of course the cd's I backed everything with are MIA!!!! GRRR! Please HELP!!!
    Thank you so much!

I can't tell from your post what you have and what you don't have. Are you saying the files are no longer on your computer, no longer on your iPod, or both?

    Hey bryce255,
Thanks for the question, that definitely sounds frustrating. Luckily, we have steps available that may be able to restore your previous library:
No content shows up in iTunes after updating
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
    Resolution
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
    3. Use the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer (Windows) to go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
    Mac OS X
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Microsoft Windows Windows XP and Windows 2000
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows Windows Vista and Windows 7
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    4. Drag the iTunes Library file from the above location to the Desktop.
    5. Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder.
    6. Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD where YYYY-MM-DD is the date you upgraded iTunes (Year-Month-Day).
    7. Drag this file to the iTunes folder (the enclosing folder).
    8. Rename this file to iTunes Library.
    9. Open iTunes.
You should now see your missing content in iTunes.
If the above does not resolve your issue, you can learn about re-creating your iTunes library:

  • How to make an app deleted from iTunes library be deleted from all the iOS devices synced with this library?

    Hello!
I have 3 iOS devices synced with iTunes apps library (OS X 10.10.2)
Can someone tell me how to make not only added but deleted apps be synced also? I mean I want an app deleted in iTunes library be deleted from any iOS devices synced with this library.

But it was working some time before! What and when has changed?
There was even a warning popup window something about "this application will be deleted from all the devices synced with this library"
Now there's opposite message - "This application will not be deleted from any device syncing with this account". Isn't it some kind of clue that there can be conrarily circumstances - when application IS deleted from ANY device synced with this computer?

  • ITunes Library been deleted, how do I want save what I have on my ITouch?

Hi, I have recently been made redundant but they let me keep my work laptop, which has my ITunes on it. However, the IT staff deleted a lot of things before handing it back to me, including my entire ITunes library. I have looked into similar questions on how to copy from an ITouch into the ITunes library and they all seem to suggest switching the ITouch into a 'hard drive' on ITunes and then copying the songs etc into a file on my computer and then copying them into ITunes. Sounds great, except that I do not have the option in my ITunes to switch my ITouch into a hard drive. Can anyone please help a dinosaur like me keep all my tracks on my ITouch and get them back into my ITunes library? ( same goes for my wifes IPod Nano which was linked to the same ITunes ). Cheers Nik

you won't find any because, unlike other iPod models, the Touch does not support _*disk mode*_.
instead, have a look at this post by Zevoneer.

  • In iTunes I accidentally deleted my "Recently Added" wheel playlist.  How do I get it back?

I was trying to clean up my playlists in iTunes and in doing so accidentally deleted my "Recently Added" wheel playlist.  I really want it back so I can see what I have recently added when I download or open things in iTunes.  Is there any way to get this wheel back?

Forget question.  Just saw solution elsewhere on this site.

  • Restoring iTunes after accidentally deleted

We accidentally deleted iTunes by tossing it into the trash. We placed it back into applications and all of the songs, movies, etc are there, but it no longer syncs with our iPods and my iPhone. all the playlists are gone and all of my iPhone applications are gone.
Is there something I'm missing to restore.
    Thanks for the help.

Did you trash the app or the iTunes folder?

  • If i create an additional itunes library and delete the content will the content remain on the original itunes library?

I just created an additional itunes library for my son by holding down shift while opening iTunes.  It created the new library but has all of my music listed.  If I delete the content in the additional library will the content still remain on the other library?

Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there to copy other media, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Itunes Playlist Accidental Deletion

I accidentally deleted all of the playlists in my iTunes sidebar, including the pre-setup ones that come with the installation. Is there any way I can get those back? Like the "25 most played" and "Recently added".
    Message was edited by: appleof_myeye

Most of the preloaded playlists are nothing more than Smart Playlists (SPLs). So you can go to File -> Create Smart Playlist and recreate them.
For example, for the 25 Most Played SPL you want to make it look like this...
Because they are nothing more than SPLs you can also change them to suit your needs. For example, 25 not good enough? Then change it to the 50 most played or 100 or 97 or whatever you like.

  • ITunes library.ltl delete/recreate process a dismal failure (for now!).

    am getting a
"iTunes library.ltl" cannot be read becuase it was created by a newer version of itunes message. have gone throught the exercise of deleting this file to try to re-create it, but iTunes will not launch (missing a critical component error).
This got started when attempting to update the iPhone from 2.2 to 3.0 and the iTunes version had to be upgrated from 8.0 to 8.2 .
During this upgrade process received warnings about being unable to update to the latest "apple remote device ........(? do not remember what) ".
Once complete the 8.2 version of itunes would start, then get the same message, this time a fatal error, and then it would close. So, I decided to uninstall, then reinstall the pervious version.
FYI I am running Windows 2003 Server as my desktop OS, have an iPhone G3 phone.

  • My entire iTunes library is deleted, all of my songs have the exclamation point next to them, and the original library file is gone, what can I do to get my music back?

So while trying to make extra room on my hard drive, I accidently put my iTunes library in the trash, and emptied it, every song in my library can not be located, and I don't have Time Machine.

Take a look at this link, https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • Missing songs... nearly entire iTunes library spontaneously deleted!

Today I noticed that nearly all of my iTunes library is nowhere to be found. I'm not talking about the library index inside of iTunes, that is still listing all of my songs, but none of them can be found on my hard drive. I'm talking about my ACTUAL mp3's inside of ~user/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music. They're gone except for one album and some TV episodes I purchased. I probably had about 6-8GB of music in there. I did a Spotlight search for some of the titles and they're not anywhere on my drive. I fired up Time Machine and went all the way back to my computer's purchase date, and it's showing the /iTunes Music folder empty all the way back... but I was listening to music from it just a few days ago! My iTunes advanced prefs are still pointing to that folder for my library!
***! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! I read some other posts about iTunes 8.0.1 causing similar problems for people upon upgrade. Apple, this is totally unacceptable!

Just speculating here but it seems to me that if the files did indeed reside in the iTunes Music folder then Time Machine should show the files. Can Time Machine be searched like a regular HD?
In my case I have mp3's scattered from one end of my laptop and network to the other, yeah, sloppy I know . But the point I am making is that my iTunes folder is empty as well but I think I know where my music is hiding.
Is it possible that you were listening to music that was on an external device such as a drive, iPod, network share, etc?

I tried using data rescue to look for the files but it did not find any. Please Help.

  • ITunes library accidentally trashed, after restoring from trashcan now has major issues...

Symptoms: iTunes flips through to the end of library without prompting and sometimes audio stops. My library is also no longer synced with my purchased djay app. The album artwork has also failed to load onto it's previously set screensaver. Mid-tonal beeping occurs randomly and open applications revolve until I press escape button...this happens every single time I operate my computer. Any idea of the cause or solution?

this is a perfect question to ask the users in the iTunes forum.  https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_mac.  Good luck.
