Itunes Library and Manually Managing Music iPod

I have 775 songs in my library on iTunes but only 650 on my iPod.  I manage music manually.  How can I find out which songs are missing from iPod?  Gar

It might just be easier at this point to remove all the tracks currently on the device via iTunes. Then highlight all of the tracks in your main iTunes library and drag them over onto the iPod from under Devices.  This will add all the tracks from your iTunes to your iPod.
If you don't want to go that route, you'll be much better off using automatic syncing rather than manual management.

Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.

  • ITunes automatically checks Manually manage music and videos????

Every time I connect my Classic or Nano, iTunes automatically checks Manually manage music and videos. If you uncheck this option it wants to erase your iPod, Classic or Nano and create a new sync which takes hours.
So to be specific. When start the first sync I have the following checked:
Open iTunes when this iPod is connected.
    Enable Disk use.
After doing a 2 hour sync and then reconnecting, it has automatically checked Manually manage music and videos. When you uncheck it wants to reload your entire Library. Which takes 2-3 hours. The problem with Manually..... it doesn't sync new additions to the Library.
I am starting to become an Apple hater. They are going the way of Microsoft. You call Apple tech support and they want to charge you per incident. And Lion is a disaster. I was an early convert to Apple and now I am getting really cranky.

I was thinking the other way.
Checking Manually manage Music and Videos does not erase the content (even though it says it will).

  • ITunes automatically unchecked "Manually manage music and videos"

Hey all, hope everything is well.
I have a frustrating problem that I don't know how to fix on my own.
So last night when I plugged my iPhone in to put some songs on, everything worked normally. I was able to edit the info and all that jazz, but today when I plugged my iPhone in...I noticed that I cannot add/delete/edit any of my music. I went into the Summary tab and seen that the "Manually manage music and videos" box is unchecked?! When I check it and apply, it says my iPhone is synced with another computer and all my data will be erased. I have spent 2 days doing album art and editing every single track info and the reason why it p*sses me off is because all of the edited songs on my iPhone are not edited in my iTunes library, so...if I do erase and sync, I would have to do everything over again for approx. 780 songs.
I guess it`s kind of my bad that I didn`t do all the editing/album art in the library THEN put the songs on my phone.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone maybe knows why iTunes decided to uncheck  "Manually manage music and videos" for me.
    Thanks and take care!

You should be able to extract any media not in your library with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings.
If your IPhone has previously been managed from this library then application settings and data should be alright.   If you transfer any missing purchases into the library with iTunes,  recover any other media using third party tools and then backup the device you should be able to immediately restore the device from the backup to make sure that the device and library are properly paired.

  • Enable disk use and Manually manage music and videos

When I go to Summary, Enable disk use is checked but dim, so I can't change it. Manually manage music and videos is checked and not dim. Is this enough to do so that I can manage the videos I have shot on my Nano from iTunes, or do I have to do it from iPhoto?

    Hello JohnKerr48,
I can manage the videos I have shot on my Nano from iTunes, or do I have to do it from iPhoto?
You have to manage them via a Finder window, through iMovie, or iPhoto. They cannot be managed via iTunes unless you copy them from your Nano onto your Mac and then import them into your iTunes library. For more information, see this Apple support document.

  • I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, but my husband has his own itunes acct, how can he use the main itunes library and get out music on his phone also

I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, unfortunately my husband has his own itunes acct and when i change on his phone to my itunes acct it states that the email is already in use, any help on how to get the itunes match to go onto both devices, thanks

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • Tried to relocate itunes library and lost all music. Songs have exclamation point.

I tried to move my iTunes library to an external drive that did not have enough space on it. The transfer did not complete. Now I cannot play any of my music. There is an exclamation point next to each song. How do I go about finding my music files? I tried to revert to the original location & "organize" the library but this did not help. Thanks!

The backup you made before a major reorganization of your library?
I get the feeling you probably were not moving your library correctly in the first place.  It sounds like you were moving only media, not the entire library which is moved by copying the entire iTunes folder to the other drive, then starting iTunes with the option/alt key held down and choosing the library.itl file in the folder on the other drive.
Organizing copies media to a new location.  The original files should still be where they were.  However, your library was told to point to them on the external drive only it messed up in the middle.
Try this.  Get info on a broken link.  Find the file on the internal (good) drive that corresponds to that track.  If iTunes asks if you want to find others, say yes.  See if that re-links the files so you're back to where you started at least.

Okay , I had "*Manually Managed*" checked in the summery and had restored the iPod to get rid of some videos that wouldn't go away. When I went to Music and checked *Sync Music* Selected Playlists, etc. it appears that the *Manually Manage* box in the Summery un-checked itself.
    Interesting,
So just to clarify ; When *Manually Managed* is checked you can only drag things into the device from your library (outside the device), using the Music tab within the device will negate this ?

  • Manually manage music and voice memo's

Good morning all, so I can't figure this out, If I have my iTunes set to manually manage music and videos how do I synch my voice memo's? Last night when I was doing that it seemed to me I had to change it to synch selected songs and once I checked Voice Memo's it emptied my iPhone of all the music. Is that right, or am I missing something? Thanks for your help!

thanks for the reply but I was hoping to find out where they go on the Mac, from the Finder point of view... where are the actual files after syncing any iPhone with voice memo recordings on it ?
The answer is, at least for me, they go to the root level of your iTunes Music folder. There they will be given a date such as:
    20091012 185152.m4a
These recordings seem to play fine on my:
    Quicktime Player 7
    Quicktime Player Snow Leopard version
In case this can help anyone out there, still love my iPhone 3gs !

  • Moving manually managed music folder (wow) to a different hard drive

The music in my iTunes library is manually managed and externally referenced - that is, not kept in the iTunes Music folder (I unselected the option to "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library").
But now I'd like to move my music to a different hard drive (previously the iTunes library was on the int HDD and the music folder was on an ext HDD, now I want both to be on the int HDD).
It seems to me that iTunes won't be able to find the files after I move them. Does anyone know a way to do this without having to recreate the iTunes library from scratch (too much music for that to be practical). Thanks!

You could move your top-level music folders to the external drive & then create symbolic links to redirect file-system requests to the new locations. This works fine for existing media but iTunes won't redirect files it is saving for some reason, e.g. Podcasts, TV Shows etc. would end up with the library files rather than being redirected. I've used such schemes for the last year or so as my library was getting to large to hold on the local disk. I gradually moved sections out to the external drive and placed the links as needed. While this has worked I recently bit the bullet & restructured my library so that it is now fully portable. Putting everything on the external drive, within the iTunes music folder, means that I can connect my drive to another machine & whatever drive letter gets assigned I can still work with the library. I still manaually manage the folders so that I can have full length file & folder names for example.

  • Moving Itunes Library and then retreiving

I am new to itunes Library and as my music was taking up too much space on the network (ie. My Documents in backed up on my work network) I was asked by our IT department to move it to the C drive. I did this, but then didn't know how to get my itunes Library to recognise where it was - ie. have since read I should have done this move through my itunes library. My itunes library now reads empty, and when I put my ipod in to sync (which still has all of my music on) it tells me it is a different library user and I need to erase to sync? How do I reconnect my library which is now sitting on C drive with my ipod and itunes library - please don't tell me I am going to have to re-load 130 CD's? Thanks

    >How do I reconnect my library which is now sitting on C drive with my ipod and itunes library ...
First step is to follow one of the options in the Add to Library section of this article in the Apple Knowledge Base. (The reference to "Finder" should read "Windows Explorer" for Windows.)
Let us know how that goes.

when trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me i am already connected to another itunes library and that if i apply these settings it will delete all of my data and replace it with the current itunes library. will this just delete from the i tunes library or from my i tunes account all together?

Thanks for your reply. I don't keep all of my music in the iTunes' designated music folder. I don't like the way iTunes reorganizes my songs and I keep all my music in my own self organized music folders as I don't use iTunes as my primary media application. Not to mention allot of my files come from all different corners of my computer's hard drive. It would literally take months to go through over 20 gigs of media files to pick out the songs I have in my iPhone library to rebuild an iTunes library. Like i said, I don't even use iTunes other than to transfer files to my iPhone. I thought the purpose of manually managing the files was so you don't have to sync it with the iTunes library but now it won't give my that option without requiring me to delete everything on my phone I worked so hard on.
What I don't understand is logically or technically why iTunes HAS to delete all the content off of my iphone. Who's decision in the Apple's software engineering department was to require the one's iPhone to be erased if someone loses their iTunes library? Its frustrating because it makes no sense and I feel as if the software is punishing me for reasons I don't understand by threatening to delete all my content off my phone. Is there absolutely no way to transfer my music to my iPhone without deleting everything currently on and completely rebuilding my music library from scratch?
