ITunes Library doesn't share to iPhone properly

Hi everyone. I have an iPhone 4S and a WIndows 7 computer with iTunes 11. I have iTunes set to share entire library. Then when I go to my iPhone and select Music > Shared > and then select the library, it loads for a while and then appears, but I notice that the entire library isn't there. It's hard to say how much of the library actually shows up, but it's probably less than half. This has been happening for a long time, I just haven't had a chance to post this question here. Is this an iPhone problem or a Windows problem? Thanks.

I have the same problem on a smaller scale.
apple support wasn't much help.
I went to another older computer that was authorized and synced thru it and they all loaded.
I don't know what I'll do if I want to use this computer exclusively.

Yes. I selected all songs and checked them (in case I missed a few) and synced.  I have also tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it.  I tried selecting all songs and unchecking them, re-syncing my phone (which didn't get rid of the songs on my phone like i thought it would), then selected all songs again, checked them, and resynced again--nothing changed.  I went to the iTunes store and selected "Check for all available downloads" and it gave me the message"All purchases have been downloaded for this account."  I checked for duplicates, deleted a few and resynced.  This reduced the number of songs, but it still doesn't match what the iTunes library says...I don't know what to try next...

  • HT1386 iPhone won't sync with iTunes. It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do

iPhone won't sync with iTunes and It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do. I tried everything!
I need to add my music to my iPhone from iTunes but its not working!

First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

If your computer doesn't see the phone when you plug it in, you may have to take it to an Apple Store.

  • Accidently deleted itunes library via home share - Help!!

Hi there,  I have just gone onto homeshare to get my iTunes library on my daughter's iphone.  I then clicked edit and deleted the files that she didn't want on the phone, but it appears to have deleted all my iTunes library.  Please help, Can I restore it? It's all my music, gone. Many thanks in advance.

    Ouch - a double mistake.
Select the music folder in Finder before running TM and see if that gets you there.
If not, then double-click the TM volume icon on the desktop and migrate down to a folder that has a recent date on it that is before your accident.
Click the arrow on the left of that folder name and you will see Macintosh HD
Click the arrow on that directory
    Click the arrow on Users
Click the arrow by your name
    Click the arrow by Music
What you see is what you got.
    Take it from there.
Don't do anything more than copy a file from the TM backup. *Do not* move or disturb it in any way. The copy may not be the entire set of items you want, but if they are there you should be able to retrieve them the proper way, using Finder and TM normally

  • TS1702 What to do when you get "iTunes library app not installed on iPhone; app could not be found"

What to do when you get "iTunes library app not installed on iPhone; app could not be found". None of the Apple suggestions fix the problem. For example, with Animoto, one of the problem apps, I have removed it, reinstalled it, and still get the eoor message.

    Of course.
First of all, this started when an external drive i was using died on me. I have no doubt that these apps indeed are off my system. I figure between the apps I've bought for myself and my kid, I have about 150 apps.
    Now. The issue.
When I sync my iPad with iTunes on my desktop, it goes through normally until it gets to the apps. When that happens, it get an error box that reads "Some of the apps in your iTunes library were not installed on the iPad because one or more errors occurred. For a list of appps that could not be installed, click on the triangle below."
Then I get a list of apps.
(Added note to any iTunes developers out there: The titles of the apps in this list do not always match the titles of the apps in the App Store. For example, one was called "MuseumGame" on my iPad. It's called "Museum of Thieves" on the App Store. I started out with a list of 60 apps. It was a major pain to track them all down. It would be nice to have everything the same so I can use the App Store search more effectively.)
    Anyway, moving on....
The error message stops my sync until I dismiss it. That, honestly, is what makes this whole thing annoying enough to seek out an answer. I can't let my iPad start syncing and walk out of the room. Yeah. I know. First World problems.
Once I dismiss the error, the sync continues and all is well.
I did the following to try to fix the problem. Mostly, I did a lot of searches:
My list of purchased apps on my iPad both using the search box and by going to every page
Searched the main App Store on my iPad using the search field. When that didn't work, I used wider searches and just scanned the page(s) for the little cloud icon that showed I had purchased the app.
I got on my desktop iTunes and searched the apps from there (without a lot of hope, but trying to be complete)
At that point, I came to the conclusion that a small number of the apps are no longer available on the App Store.
Fine. I didn't want them anyway.
I got into iTunes and went to the Apps page. None of the errant apps showed up there. I searched the iTunes help files. Nothing. I crossed my fingers, said a little prayer to the search engine gods, and tried Google. I found some things that sort of matched but they basically boiled down to "re-download the app from the App Store" or "Restore your iPad".
So I spent a couple of hours restoring my iPad. I got the error message again. I hit Google again and came up with this thread. It was as close to my problem as I found.
I think that brings us up to date.
My fundamental problem is that I seem to have found a scenario where if you have to restore apps (because, perhaps, your external drive died) and some of the apps are no longer available for download, there is an error generated that can not be permanently dismissed.
    Did I miss anything important?

  • My iTunes library doesn't match what's on my iPhone

I wasn't sure if I should post this under iPhone or iTunes so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
Basically, there are discrepancies between my iTunes library and what's on my iPhone.  Yes, everything is checked and I know how to sync.  I also understand all the nuances of artist names, genres, etc.
It appears that all of the music is there, but it doesn't all show up when sorting my artist, song or album.  Here are 2 examples:
I have 2 Amy Winehouse records in my iTunes library; Back to Black and Lioness.  Both records are also on my iPhone.  However, when I pull the list of records by ARTIST only Lioness shows up.  To find Back to Black, I have to sort by ALBUM and then I can find it.
I have 4 Norah Jones records in my library; Come Away with Me, The Fall, Little Broken Hearts and Not Too Late.  All records are also on my iPhone.  However, when I sort by ARTIST only 3 of the records appear (the Fall is missing).  If I sort by ALBUM, it is there.
These are 2 examples, but there are several more.
This is very annoying because I can't always remember the name of records but I do remember the artist, of course.
I have tried re-syncing.  I have looked very carefully at the artist name to make sure they all appear EXACTLY the same...they do.  No spaces, nothing.
Any thoughts??  Thank you for your help!

The missing Albums may be ones where the Artist is not listed as also being the Album Artist in the tag.  Try going to Settings>Music and turn Group By Album Artist to Off.  See if the missing albums now show in the Artist view.  If so, you can either leave the setting this way, or if you prefer it to be on, go to iTunes on your computer and put the correct name in the Album Artist field of the tag (on the Info tab of the tab) for the albums in question and sync your phone.

  • Sharing an iTunes library for syncing with an iPhone

Not sure if this belongs in iTunes or iPhone thread but here goes. My wife and I have our own profiles on our Mac. Right now all the music/video is in my iTunes library. We are both getting iPhones and I want both of us to be able to sync the music/video from iTunes (maybe from some shared library folder) but I want her mail/contacts/addresses/etc. to synch on her phone and mine to synch with mine. She will be logged in to her account when she syncs and I'll be logged into my account when I sync. Is this possible with iTunes? Can we put the iTunes music/video in a shared folder that we both attach to and yet still sync our iPhones with our own info? I'd prefer not to duplicate the iTunes library in both accounts because that just wastes space. Any ideas?

My husband and I have the exact same question. Have you figured this out? We were getting ready to share our music library and then panicked realizing that this might then totally mess up our synching to our own separate iPhones.
Any info would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

  • Locate iTunes Library to Network Share

I would like to store the iTunes library on a network resource so that macs and pc's can access it from my network and to facilitate backup and recovery.
Can this be done and if so how?
    Thank you

    Hi Hugh, happy Christmas...
Sounds like the issue I had with iTunes for a while, before I realised I was starting it BEFORE the network share (remote drive) was mounted. I use a ReadyNAS NV+, but the principle is the same...
Make sure file sharing is properly and securily turned on first on both ends.
    A:
You can either connect through finder, once connected to the proper shared folder location drag the relevant folder "itunes music" to the devices list in finder. You should also add the location to you start up items.
    B:
You can create a mount point for the drive using "Comand K" (Finder Go menu, connect to server...). If you connect this way its more robust, using either afp or smb you can also add the mount point to your start up items, so you can be sure the share point is available before you start iTunes.
    This is how I would connect to my headless Mac mini, where 192.168.2.24 is the local IP of the Mac Mini;
file access... (you will have to double check the syntax here for your setup)
    ⌘K smb://192.168.2.24/users/woody/music
    screen sharing...
    ⌘K vnc://192.168.2.24
(These shortcuts can be saved in the server list for future use, very handy.)
It should ask you for a password, which you should have set up in file sharing for security.

  • How do I select only certain songs from itunes library to upload to my iphone?

Trying to free up some memory and my whole itunes library is loaded on my phone.  Is there a way to select only certain songs to sync with my phone?

When your iphone is connected to iTunes, go to the phone section, go to options and then select "Sync only checked songs and videos".  Then go to yotur iTunes music library, and check only the songs you want.  If you are viewing the library in the "songs" option the check boxes are next to the songs.  If you are viewing from the "album" view, you have to right-click each song and select check.

  • Why won't my iTunes library sync to my new iPhone 4s?

I recently got a new iPhone 4s and I tried to sync my music from my iTunes library onto my music library on my 4s. But when my laptop said the sync was complete I checked my 4s and my music wasn't there. I then went to the iTunes store on my 4s and tried to download all of my songs from there but again, I checked my library and it was empty. My iTunes is updated to the newest version and my songs transfer onto my iPad right away with no problems so I don't see why there is a problem with my iPhone. I have tried manually putting the songs on my iPhone but that didn't work either. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know as this is a very annoying problem.

    Hello, lmd2015.
When receiving a sync session failed to start alert, I would recommend closing all open applications in multitasking, power cycling the device and restarting iTunes.  Attempt the sync again after processing these steps.

  • PC to  Mac: ITunes library on network share

    Hi all,
I am aware that these forums gets lots of PC -> Mac iTunes library migration questions. However, I'm having trouble with my particular situation.
Just got a new Mac Pro yesterday. It came with Tiger installed and a Leopard upgrade disc. So, I've already upgraded to Leopard. Software updater has already updated iTunes to v7.4.3. I have the iTunes library on a network share under folder called "My Music". The Mac has no issues with seeing the shared drive.
How do I go about pointing iTunes on the Mac to the library on the share? I know about holding down the option key while iTunes is starting. I've tried that but I don't know what folder or file the Mac version of iTunes is looking for. I keep getting messsages that iTunes can't find the library.
I'd like to keep the iTunes library in place but will move it if I must. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steven

Did more checking and the /My Music/itunes directory on the network share does have a "iTunes Library.itl" file. The iTunes library chooser keeps telling me it can't find an iTunes library.
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • Control iTunes library from both MB and iPhone

    Hi Dears,
Couldn't find a direct answer to the following question:
I have a MacBook and an iPhone. Have some music purchased in iTunes Store and some from an external source directly loaded from MB to the phone. Currently manual sync is set up.
Usually I buy or load full albums and then remove songs I don't like. Usually I do such "cleaning" on the go in the iPhone.
If I setup automatic sync I can reach the case when I remove songs in iTunes library and they are removed from the synced devices.
The question is whether vice versa the songs I've removed on my iPhone could be automatically removed from my iTunes library?
(i.e. I want to reach one library managed from different devices).
    Please advise
    Thanks,
    Anton

The phone syncs to the computer, not the other way around.  Transferring purchases is a syncing option but does not delete items on the computer if they are not on the phone:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
You can try doing something with playlists,  making a smart playlist with things that are not in a transferred playlist, then delete everything in the smart playlist, but you're really trying to do it all reverse from the way it is intended to be done:

  • Hold entire iTunes library on external drive including iPhone backups

I have successfully moved my iTunes library to an external drive.  This allows me to plug the external into any of my Macs, hold Option while launching iTunes, and manage the library.  That way, I can use either mac as my home sharing server and can travel with any laptop I'd like.
Now I'd like to incorporate my iOS backups so I don't have to use a single computer to sync my phones and iPads.  I travel quite a bit and take different laptops with me.  While I'm home I want to use my Macbook Pro.  Is it possible to sync my iPhone with any computer as long as I'm running an installation of iTunes from an external hard dirve?
