ITunes library errors (automatic sorting)

Hey everyone! I've had this problem for a few weeks now on iTunes where a number of my songs have had their song information altered greatly without my input in the "sorting" section seen in this image. I've manually tried to alter many of these mistakes but clicking "next" to scroll through the thousands of entries has actually created more of these incorrectly sorted tracks.
Any tips for a permanent solution will be appreciated, thanks!

I have changed the preferences and pointed the library to the Server
Typically, properly moving a library does NOT involve doing anything to preferences.

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the whole iTunes folder and all its subfolders and files intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • System Restore to previous iTunes version caused "New iTunes Library" error

So like others I upgraded to 11; tried to keep an open mind but the thing keeps hanging up on me, running slowly, and wow I hate not being able to see my playlists next to my library. Even little things like deleting a song from a playlist and iTunes not automatically playing the next song bother me to no end.
SO, I decided to try a System Restore to my previous iTunes version but now I can't open iTunes due to a "New iTunes Library" error. /facepalm
I'm assuming it has something to do with 11 changing my Library file format and the file not reverting during the restore? Or something?
Is there anything I can do at this point? Any easy fix I'm not aware of?
Or will I have no choice but to uninstall/re-install the previous iTunes? (If this truly is the only solution could you please point me in the direction of the easiest way to go about it, I'm somewhat computer-literate but I've heard that it can be a pain in the butt)
I'm sure my songs themselves are fine, right? So my main thing is that I REALLY don't want to lose my playlists, I have dozens of them, that's what I'm the most worried about. I do keep all my music/playlists fairly up to date on my iPod as well, if that would help me restore my library. Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Quit iTunes.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes. (Substitute iTunes 10.7)
Use the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer (Windows) to go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
    Mac OS X
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Microsoft Windows Windows XP and Windows 2000
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows Windows Vista and Windows 7
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\
Drag the iTunes Library file from the above location to the Desktop.
Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder.
Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD where YYYY-MM-DD is the date you upgraded iTunes (Year-Month-Day).
Drag this file to the iTunes folder (the enclosing folder).
Rename this file to iTunes Library.
    Open iTunes.

  • HT1660 My itunes library has automatically started to list my songs alphabetically.  I do not want this.  How do I change it so that when albums come up, the songs are listed in the order of the imported album, NOT alphabetically.

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • New itunes library error. How do I fix this?

When I try to open itunes up on my laptop the "new itunes library" error message pops up.  When I plug in my itouch/iphone, itunes still doesn open. The same message pops up.  I downloaded another itunes and installed it without doing anything to my original itunes, but then I get an error message stating the older version cannot be removed. HELP!?!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Vista - Updating iTunes Library Error, Freeze, Blue Screen - Work Around?!

I may have a solution & partial root cause for the "Update iTunes Library" freeze / blue screen issue.
    Details:
    - I've been running Windows Vista since its release.
    - iTunes worked fine under Vista since my XP->Vista clean install.
    - I updated to iTunes version 7.1.1.5 a month ago and the problem started.
    - After installation, iTunes tried to update the Library and after a minute or two, it hung and then went to a blue screen. I restarted iTunes MANY times over the month and tried to re-install it - nothing worked.
    Solution? (for me anyway)
Recall that when you log into Vista, even if you're the only user, you DO NOT have administrator privilages. You are only granted those AFTER a request and authorization (I think this is where iTunes hangs). Now, this solution might be a stretch, but iTunes worked after I stumbled across this. I took two steps and am not sure which or if the combination worked...
    - I was working with system commands that required administrator authorization. So the system prompted me, as it does everything, and I was granted them. Was this key? I don't know.
    - I also copied the iTunes Library to my Desktop, started iTunes and let it create a new, blank, iTunes Library. I closed iTunes and copied my old iTunes Library file back from the Dekstop.
When I restarted iTunes, it started to update the iTunes Library and this time it completed successfully.
Not taking anything for granted, I did a shutdown/restart to make sure it was clean.
    - I did run into a blue screen AGAIN at shutdown. But this time it rebooted clean and iTunes has been running perfectly for 3 days.
    I hope this helps someone!

what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)

if you're just seeing a flash of a blue screen, we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

I was downloading music 2 days ago and went to log on today and it states New itunes Library.

  • ITunes Library Error - what am I doing wrong??

I just bought a new 80 GB video iPod and wanted to import my existing library (I was previously using a nano). When I uploaded the info for my new iPod I got errors from Windows opening iTunes and it kept shutting down my internet connection saying that Windows was experiencing errors - would I like to report.
I completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. The install was sucessful, however when I try to open iTunes for the first time to access my library, I get the following message:
The file "i Tunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
The only option it gives me is to hit the "OK" button and exit out of the program. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted and read the FAQ's on iTunes, scanned my PC for viruses and uninstalled everything that might be conflicting - nothing has allowed me to get past this error.
    What are my next steps?

  • Itunes Library error message on Powerbook G4

I have never had this error message pop up. Today I tried to copy some songs from my powerbook to my other mac for a video I was doing, the CD got stuck (doesn't even show up on screen) and I can't eject it AND now my itunes doesn't work saying something like "Itunes library is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file."
I already tried one of the thread recommendations that said to go to library folder take out 2 files library and xml, yadda yadda but that did not work. I did it three times.
Is there something else I can try! HELP. I don't have the money to pay $49 to ask some one this over the phone.

    Hello all.
Below is some information that may assist
    1. Go to Control Panel
    2. Now go to Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features if it is Vista
    3. Uninstall anything called Quicktime made by Apple. If you happen to see Quick Time Alternative you will need to uninstall this as well.
*Even though it may not tell you. I advise a reboot once this is finished. Now proceed to the link below to download the Quicktime Standalone
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Make sure to download the Standalone version. Not the iTunes+Quicktime
Once this is done. Then attempt to launch iTunes. If you continue to get the same message try the following
-Full basic Uninstall of Apple Software
    1. Go to Control Panel
    2. Now go to Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features if it is Vista
*Uninstall in the following order if possible as this will decrease amount of reboots needed
    -Apple Mobile Device Support
    -Apple Software Updates
    -Bonjour
    -Windows iPod Updaters
    -Mobile Me Pref
    -Quicktime
    -iTunes
*Reboot and then download and install iTunes+Quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If none of those first 2 phases work. Try the last option down below. A little more in depth but this is a full cleanup of all Apple files and folders and programs.

  • ITunes Library Error - Help Please

    Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and have only had my iPhone 4 for a handful of weeks now.
I'm running the latest iTunes software on Windows XP and all has been fine till this morning....I went to open up iTunes and got a message to say that the iTunes Library had an error...of which it saved the damaged file and reloaded the library....however I am missing all my Podcasts/Apps etc.....
I can see the file iTunes has tried to load which is now listed as iTunes Library (Damaged) and the file type is still an iTunes Database File.
I can still find all the Podcasts/Apps/iTunes purchases within the iTunes folders but can anyone assist me with getting my iTunes Library back to where it was?
    Many Thanks
    Jason

    Hi Katrina S.
Many thanks for replying. I have been messing around with it and I found the following solution:
I deleted the new iTunes Library that was created today and renamed the damaged file back to the original name. Once this was done I relaunched iTunes and my library was back to normal.
    Cheers - Jason

  • ITunes Library Error (new error to me)

I receive an error when I was importing a CD. This is a new one to me. The error is: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54). I have never seen this error before. Can someone tell me what it means and how to correct? Thanks for any feedback.

Error -54 can occur, when a file is locked or you are having permission errors.
Do you have enough free disk space to write the imports to your hard drive?
Check the permissions on your iTunes folder. Make sure you have read/write permissions, and apply that permissions to the enclosed items. You can check the permissions in the Info panel odf the iTunes folder (select it in the Finder and use File > Get Info).

    Hello, everyone!
I need to transfer my iTunes library from PC to Mac, unfortunately i can't copy&paste folders from iTunesMedia because my music allocates in different folders on my drive. I checked .TMP files in Downloads, but there is no any and all downloads complete (Store->Check for available downloads). Firewalls, browsers and antivirus are closed.
Can anyone suggest the way to fix "error(-50)" problem, please? or different way to transfer my library to Mac...

  • Updating iTunes Library (error)

I have just downloaded iTunes 7.3.1 and when I start the program, iTunes opens a message is displayed that says "Updating iTunes Library" with a progress bar. The progress bar will go about 85% of the way up, and then the program will freeze.
When I look at Windows Task Manager, iTunes is listed there as "Not Responding."
I have tried reinstalling the program and doing a "repair." I have not tried completely uninstalling the program and reinstalling it because I am worried about losing my library information (i.e. my ratings and play counts) as well as my playlists.
I have started Quick Time and it runs without any issues that I can see.
    Any suggestions?

I had this same issue and now I get an error message that says "iTunes can not run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration"
any help with this would be appreciated very much. I am running vista and have a 80gb video iPod. email me directly at [email protected]
    Thanks
