"iTunes Library file cannot be saved". What is this all about?
At regular intervals, when using iTunes, I will click on something, for example the search box and a box will appear saying "the iTunes Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough privileges for this operation". Can anyone tell me what this is all about? It doesn't seem to have any adverse effect, but it is very annoying.
Well, I"m on a Mac and have the same issue and have not updated to the latest iTunes. I'm still on 8.2.0. The "cannot save iTunes library file" message just started out of the blue more or less when I was trying to figure out why downloads to my iPhone took so long to finish all of a sudden. I moved the preferences file to the desktop so it would create a new one and it was after that that I started getting the message. Now it occurs every time I remove a podcast or make any changes to the library list. Between that annoyance and having to reboot my computer every time I want to update my iPhone because that's the only way to get it to make the sync without it crawling like a snail, I find I"m getting really fed up with the whole thing. There are so many of us with the same problem that you'd think Apple would address it and fix it.

I get the following error message after installing the latest version of itunes via auto update: "the itunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54). Has anyone ever seen this message and anyone have a suggestion what to do?
Hi pholewinski!
I have a couple of articles for you here that I believe will help you with this issue. The first is an article on advanced troubleshooting, and it can be found here:
iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
If following that article's steps doesn't take care of the issue, you can try the things listed in this article, which is about permissions issues in iTunes:

What does it mean when you get a "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. There is not enought memory available." ? And what can I do to correct it?
Well, I installed the latest iTunes this AM, works perfectly. Although for some reason it did lock up after playing a song today.
Horror stories? That's a bit overly dramatic.
No, it isn't.
The issue you are experiencing is one that has occurred in multiple versions of iTunes, a simple search would have revealed this.
A simple search was conducted, no one seemed to have an answer. Do you always adopt such a haughty attitude? Or was I just lucky. -
While downloading some music on Itunes, a dialog box keeps popping up. Says,"The iTunes Library File cannot be saved. There is not enough memory available." Am confused about what to do. Never had this problem before. Can someone please, help me?
Exactly what it says.
Is there sufficient free space on the computers hard drive? -
I recently started receiving the following iTunes error message when I attempt to update the software on my iPad or iPhone: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You have exceeded your storage quota on the disk you are attempting to use."
Any ideas what I need to do? The software won't update on my iPad, and I need to update through iTunes, as my iPad does not have enough free space to use the OTA service. You need to free up space on your boot drive.
(I am going to ask the mods move this to the MacBook Pro forum.) -
I'm getting the message: The Itunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this opeation." What gives?
That can sometimes be produced by real-time back-up utilities/services interfering with writes to the iTunes library files.
Are you using a real-time backup? (Carbonite, Mozy, Black Blaze?) -
HELP PLEASE! What does "The itunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
Hi, DickmoAZ.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like a permission issue most likely with the iTunes Media folder. Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot this issue.

Error message -48: The itunes library file cannot be saved.
Hello,
When I open up my itunes i get an error message 48 - the itunes library file cannot be saved. All my data is there - music, podcasts etc. Just wondering if this error message means anything, if so what, and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks!I just called Apple Support and I think they helped me, but I'm still waiting to see if the error message returns. I was experiencing the same problem. Whenever I started iTunes, I would get the -48 error message. Everything else was working fine. Apple Support instructed me to delete some files from a folder and restart my pc. I did this and it seems to have worked. The folder is on my C:/ drive. Using Windows Explorer, I went to my C:/ drive and then opened the following folders in this order: "Documents and Settings", "Administrator", "Application Data", "Apple Computer", "iTunes", "iPod Software Updates". Inside the iPod Software Updates folder, I found four files which I deleted. I then emptied my trash can and restarted my pc. After I restarted my pc and opened iTunes, the error message did not come up. So it looks like my problem has been solved. Just some minor glitch having to do with the last update. I should mention that I did just get an iPod Classic 80 gig which replaced my 30 gig iPod Photo which just died.

The error message I get on my PC is "The ITunes library file cannot be saved" An unknown error occurred (-50)and my music library has disappeared. I recently tried to copy a CD to my library - it appeared to copy ok but then did not appear in my music library. The library does not show up even when my iPad is connected to my PC. My entire library is now held on my iPad and I wish to have it in iTunes so I can sync my iPhone to it as well. Help?
Don't know what changed today but it downloaded and installed on the shuffle. So far so good.

"The Itunes library file cannot be saved" Error Message (-54) please help!
Hello, I was loading a music cd onto my itunes library today when I started getting this recurring Error message stating: "The Itunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error has occurred (-54)"
It just keeps popping up, and now it let me play anything without getting it. So in a panic I realized that nothing is backed up, so I started backing up my itunes using a blank dvd and even that failed in the middle of burning. I guess it has something to do with the error message?
This scares me since I'm very careful of the types of discs I put into my Mac, and I know that disc in particular didn't have any kind of virus (its been playing in my car for the last two years actually) and it was burned on my PC using itunes a while back when the system was clean.
My music is like my life and this message is freaking me out, how do I get rid of the message without damaging my library? or what happened to make it appear?
I'm afraid of how to proceed next.....Someone please help!I suspect some anti-virus software is incorrectly interpreting the rewriting of the file and is causing a problem.
Either way, you should definitely update your anti-virus software and definitions to the latest, and run a full scan of your system. Then tell the security software not to scan the iTunes itl file/folder.
If that does not help, you may want to recreate your iTunes library:

I upgraded iTunes to 11. I now receive an error message which reads - 'The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50). How do I correct this error?
Thanks
TDBI know this doesn't help you Bud, but I've had this issue for at least the last couple of versions. If I can ask, what is you enviornment like? Local PC only, libray saved on another PC/Server?
In my case my library is on Windows 2003 server with the share mapped to drive M: This has worked for many years through both XP and Windows 7 until and update a while ago.
Thanks,

The itunes library file cannot be saved. you do not have eno
I get this message what does it mean?
"the itunes library file cannot be saved. you do not have enough access privileges for this operation"You need to have enough rights to write to the My Music folder.
Most likely, your My Documents folder or My Music folder is missing or broken. Create the My Music folder in your My Documents, if it's not there, then use TweakUI to set it as the special My Music folder.
