ITunes library file corrupt PLEASE HELP
My sister and I both got new iPods for Christmas. I had an extensive library, while she was brand new and I just added songs to hers. We have Windows XP and I figured since we have different screens, we'd have different iTunes. I just updated hers and went to open my iTunes. What opened was a blank screen and the message "The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\Kaitlyn\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility." I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT TO DO AND I AM HYSTERICAL. If someone could PLEASE answer me, you would save my Christmas. Thank you.
This is an image of what my iTunes looks like right now. If I follow the instructions on the website, everything will come back? I mean, I had SO MANY songs a few hours ago and now it looks like this...

I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions. It's just that I am so nervous about losing everything. Also, on that site, it doesn't say that it's a corrupt .itl file... will it still work?

I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? I tried using icloud on my iphone but it stated that I have never back up my phone before. So I guess my iCloud data is gone too? But I have back up my mac in my harddrive using time machine. So how do I get my old itune library back? Please help! Thanks!
1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer. -
ITunes Library change. Please help me!
Hey guys
I have a problem. I want to change my iTunes library. If I open iTunes the title of the program (above of the apple image up in the middle of the screen) is "Previous iTunes Library". But I want to get back my actual library!
I dont know how to change that!
I hope someone can help me and sorry for that bad English!
ThanksFor general library squiffiness following an upgrade the easiest thing is to restore your last backup, but I guess if it were that simple you wouldn't be here.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes.
In your case you need to take an additonal step once you've copied and renamed the requisite files. Hold down the shift key and click the icon to start iTunes. Keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose, then navigate to the main iTunes folder instead of the Previous iTunes Libraries folder and open the iTunes Library.itl file there.
Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library. See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

ITunes Library file corrupt or unreadable -- unable to be saved
When I open itunes, I have to import my library everytime... and it says that the library file is corrupt or unreadable and cannot be saved. Can anyone else with this issue, please?
hmmmm. perhaps try running a chkdsk over the drive on which your iTunes library file is stored:

ITunes library file corrupt after updating?
Just the other day I updated to the latest iTunes software. This is the first time I've tried to use it and it keeps freezing (the swirly rainbow icon) until I eventually have to give up and force quit. My iTunes library is on an external hard drive which has admittedly been taking longer and longer to boot up each time I connect it, I don't know if this is related.
After doing some research on here I created a new test iTunes library on my hard drive and it worked perfectly, so it must be a corrupt library file? I followed the advice on an old thread and replaced the corrupt library file with an older one from December.
It worked....but here's the complication. Since that last backup in December I started using iTunes Match. When I opened the older library file, I saw that iTunes Match wasn't turned on, so I turned it on and it was saying that none of my library had been uploaded to iCloud except for iTunes purchases. I quickly exited, because frankly I couldn't bear the thought of all my library having to be uploaded to iCloud again (it took days and days...and days!). The music is still on the iCloud, but if I open that older version of my iTunes library it doesn't seem to think that it is.
Any idea what I should do?

I've been using iTunes 10.5 beta not sure which version on my MBP and i now installed iTunes 10.5 on my iMac but it won't open my iTune library. its giving me an error saying something like "damaged .itl" PLEASE HELP I'm in ****!!!!
Pretty simple work around:
1. locate com.apple.mail.plist in ~/Library/Preferences folder. Move to the desktop (you can replace it if this does not work).
2. Restart Mail, and set up the account again.
3. From the File menu, "Import Mail Boxes". These will be in a folder marked POP or IMAP, in ~/Library/Mail. You may need to do more than one import, depending on how many accounts you have.
They will be in a folder called "Imported". You can now make new folders, and move emails, or just move entire folders. -
My iTunes Library has disappeared - PLEASE HELP!!!
Hi all,
I opened up my iTunes library a few minutes ago and have found that ALL of my playlists and songs have disappeared. What have I done? Could someone please tell me how to remedy the situation?
Many thanks,
StuOkay, this just happened to me to.
What happened to me was that I renamed my user folder, and all iLife and other applications reset.
To fix this, this is what I did:
1) Go to your Users folder, a new folder with information from the old username will be there and a folder with the new name will be there. QUICKLY rename both folders (with one being the old username).
2) LOG OUT and log back in (very important not to do to much before you do this
This worked perfectly for me, if not for you:

My itunes library went nuts. please help
I noticed today, that some of my compilations started showing up in the wrong parts of my cover flow. Before they would all sit nicely towards the end, then I saw that two of them where now mixed in with the V's, listed under various artist. Weird. I manually fix those two artist, and they seemed to go back to where they belonged, by editing the ID3 tags myself, even though those albums I purchased on itunes.
Then I noticed another soundtrack (compilation) was listed in another part of the coverflow, this time in the O's, and now I'm thinking my library somehow got messed up.
I rebooted a couple of times, and now when I view my itunes library, it list the artist as if Group by Compilations isn't checked. So now my soundtracks show up several times, mixed in with regular artist. I keep checking, and unchecking, and rechecking group compilations in the preferences, but it just doesn't work. The songs are still marked as part of a compilation.
This is really irritating me! Anyone have any ideas?I must be really really tired.
I turned off the Album by Artist tab.... and there it is.
Problems solved. I'm going to bed now, apparently I need sleep. -
Like the question says, I have about 6 or 7 songs that I want to permanently delete from my iTunes library and iPhone. They keep showing up even after I've unchecked/deleted them. I've used the manual option and selected the artists, genres, etc. that I still want, but the deleted songs keep appearing. I bought these songs off of the iTunes store I didn't use my iPhone. I don't have the iTunes Match option turned on my phone, nor do I use iCloud. I don't know what else to do besides manually selecting all of my songs and putting them into a folder, deleting the blasphemous songs that I don't want anymore, deleting my iTunes library and resetting my iPhone and copying the songs from the folder back into my iTunes library. But has anyone else had this happen to them? I've had an iPod for years now and I've never had this issue before. I'd really like an easier solution here, so does anyone have any ideas?
The solution is Simple.
- Goto preferences
- From there select the 'Devices' tab
- Now make click the check box close to 'Prevent iPods,iPhones..... from syncing automatically.
Click OK and your problem will be solved. -
Adobe CS6 to Lion color-files corrupted, please help...
Long time windows user switched to Apple (had an iPhone and iPad for years, just seemed sensible to buy an MBPR when it was time for a new laptop). That was a few days ago. But now, I'm stumped. Experiencing a slight flicker when browsing and noted some color shift in CS6 - researched online - found an article reviewing the use of the Color Synch Utility. Ran it. Seems to have fixed the flicker, but the Photoshop issue remains. This is the erroir code I am getting:
Checking 92 profiles...
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/RedBlueYelllow.icc
Tag 'pseq': Required tag is not present.
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/Smokey.icc
Tag 'pseq': Required tag is not present.
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/TealMagentaGold.icc
Tag 'pseq': Required tag is not present.
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/TotalInkPreview.icc
Tag 'pseq': Required tag is not present.
Verify done - found 4 bad profiles.
I can find no data online about a fix...just other OP's noting the problem. Is there a solution?Found this answer on Adobe's help site. Thought it might help others. Also hoped somebody might be able to explain how to do what is described here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-icc-profiles-mac-os.html
A system error can occur if the Adobe application accesses a damaged ICC profile. Troubleshoot ICC profiles to determine if they cause the problem:
Move all profiles from the following folders to the desktop:
Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles
System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
Restart the Adobe application, and try to re-create the problem:
If the problem recurs, move the profiles to their original location.
If the problem doesn't recur, move one profile at a time to its original location and then repeat step 2 until you identify the profile that causes the problem. -
Image file corruption - please help
I am running a 15" powerbook using 756 mb ram on OS 10.3.9
This configuration has been the same since I bought it 18 month ago
The last couple of weeks I've been having problems with corrupt appearing on the hard drive. It is not every file but there is no way of predicting it.
I have tried different ways of transfering the images (firewire and usb). I have tried different flash cards and also transfered the same images to different folders and then I find different images are corrupted. I have tried viewing the images with different software - they still corrupt. I have tried different formats for the images (jpeg & raw) still the same. Sometimes the thumbnails look ok and the main file goes wrong, sometimes the thumbnail looks wrong and the main file is ok!
One is posted here http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i129/spud159/DPP07D6051E142831.jpgHi Spud159,
There are various factors which can cause corruption such as this. Here are a few trouble shooting steps I suggest you perform.
First, pop the original install DVD in the drive and by pressing the OPTION key during boot enter the diagnostic mode. Perform a full hardware diagnostic test. This way you can check your hard drive, ram and logic board. It may catch an error.
You have a non-standard ram configuration so I'm guessing you added more ram manually. Remove this ram, boot up using the stock configuration and see if the same happens.
If you continue to see the corruption and none of the above have shown a fault in the hardware, a re-installation of OS X is in order. Before doing that however, add another user to your computer and try opening images using that new account. If that does not have any affect, format and re-install OS X using the supplied install DVD.
If the problem persists even then, contact your nearest AASP and ask them to have a look at it.
Good luck! -
My iTunes won't open! It keeps saying 'The iTunes Library.itl is locked on a locked disk or you not have write permission for this file.' Please Help!
this may happen on external drives if:
The external drive was hotpluged (removed) without going the correct "eject" way
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for external drive
Close iTunes
Unmount (eject) external drive the right way.
Mount drive again
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up" This will force the filesystem to rescan the file structure of the drive and rebuilding the file system table and journaling file.
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive) restart iTunes
If your iTunes library is on your internal drive, this may happen
The system was not shoot down correct, e.g. "pulled the plug"
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for internal hard drive
Close iTunes
Reboot system
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up"
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive)
Reboot system, restart iTunes
If none of the above fixes your problem, post here.

"The Itunes library file cannot be saved" Error Message (-54) please help!
Hello, I was loading a music cd onto my itunes library today when I started getting this recurring Error message stating: "The Itunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error has occurred (-54)"
It just keeps popping up, and now it let me play anything without getting it. So in a panic I realized that nothing is backed up, so I started backing up my itunes using a blank dvd and even that failed in the middle of burning. I guess it has something to do with the error message?
This scares me since I'm very careful of the types of discs I put into my Mac, and I know that disc in particular didn't have any kind of virus (its been playing in my car for the last two years actually) and it was burned on my PC using itunes a while back when the system was clean.
My music is like my life and this message is freaking me out, how do I get rid of the message without damaging my library? or what happened to make it appear?
I'm afraid of how to proceed next.....Someone please help!I suspect some anti-virus software is incorrectly interpreting the rewriting of the file and is causing a problem.
Either way, you should definitely update your anti-virus software and definitions to the latest, and run a full scan of your system. Then tell the security software not to scan the iTunes itl file/folder.
If that does not help, you may want to recreate your iTunes library:

When attempting to start iTunes, I get the following: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)." Can someone please help me get this fixed?
Same problem here since latest update. As usual poor support from Apple with no answer or fix for this bug.
