ITunes Library File Damaged; How Do I Get My Playlists Back?

My PowerMac G4 was in Sleep mode, and the power went out in my house for two seconds. iTunes was open when the computer went down as was Stickies. Upon starting up my computer, I found all of my Stickies memos were gone, but worst of all, I got a window telling me the iTunes library was damaged, so I had to go through a new iTunes setup. After iTunes found all of my music files (nearly 10,000 songs), I now have all the songs retrieved but my hundreds of playlists are gone. My 80Gig iPod still has all of the playlists, but of course, if I sync it with my computer, I'll lose them from the iPod. Is there any way to get my playlists back without having to go through the arduous task of creating them all over again in iTunes? Help (And thanks in advance to anyone who can offer me some enlightenment...)

I can't get my music to play in my itunes. It comes with a exclamation mark next to the song numbers and says that the original songs can't be played cause cant find the file. How do I get the songs back? (I found the files

You get exclamation marks or dead tracks because  iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
If you use an external drive, a change in drive letter is a common cause and you need to change it back.
AS a way of working out what has happened, right click on a track and select the summary tab (you will have to go past an error message). The summary tab will tell you where iTunes thinks the track is located. How does that compare with where the track actually is?
The xml library file is not used by iTunes, it is created to allow other programs to access the library. You can recreate the iTl file from the xml file, but there is no point if the location of the files is wrong.
There is a simple way of getting you music back in iTunes, but it loses all playlists counts and rating. To do this drag iTunes library.itl and iTunes Library.xml to your desktop. Then open iTunes and an empty library is created. Add you iTunes Media folder to it.
If you can't work out what went wrong and how to fix it, you may have to do this.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

All you can do is restore from backup if yu have one. If you backed up to iTunes make sure that autosyncing is turned off. Otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the backup with you data might be overwritten. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devicesand check the box that says "Prevent iPods...".

  • Help... iTunes Library file damaged

Since moving some files to defrag my hard disk, I now get the following error message when I run iTunes:
The file "iTunes Library .itl" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has attempted to recover your iTunes library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged) x .itl [where x is 1,2,3,etc]
This is happening every time I try to run iTunes so there are a series of the damaged files in iTunes folder and each time I run iTunes there is a new set of Audiobooks, Music, etc. playlists in iTunes.
    Can anyone help??
    Thanks

Earlier this month, my entire iTunes library disappeared from my Mac G5.
There were more than 50 songs I purchased on iTunes, plus more than 1,000 from my own CD collection as well as some original songs I wrote using GarageBand.
The songs were displayed on the iTunes rundown, but when I clicked to play, a prompt told me that it was unable to find the song.
Multiple searches were fruitless and the iTunes folder shows none of these songs to exist.
Much of these same songs are still on my iPod.
A few of the iTunes-purchased songs are also on my Mac G4 Powerbook.
The difference between the G5 and G4 is that I’ve not upgraded the latest iTunes version on the PowerBook…however in late March, I did upgrade on the G5.
No other new applications have been added to any of my computers since around the first of the year.
So I am asking you and everyone else (especially the Aplle people):
How can I recover those songs I bought from iTunes?
    Why did this happen?
Have other Mac users experienced this?
Is there a flaw in the new iTunes version?

  • My itunes match has expired How do I get my music back? Many thanks

    Hi,
I started downloading them all but only got half way. Now my subscription has expired ...how do I get my music back on my laptop?
Any idea. Sorry if it's obvious
    Sue

    Hi,
You will have lost all access to your music in the cloud except for iTunes purchases. If you don't have a back up, I'm afraid that you will have lost what was only in the cloud.

  • If I can't buy apps with ituned card in Canada - how do I get my money back

I don't want the cards if I can't use them to buy apps, so how do I get my money back? They sell the cards with the presumption that you can use them to buy anything thru itunes but after they are redeemed and you try to use them, they don't work! I want a refund!

    your out of luck
use them to buy Music, Movies, TV, or audio books
it is well covered on the net and in the TOU for iTunes Canada and in Apple online store (iTunes section).

  • How do I turn the cloud on in my itunes library? And, how do I get my tv shows to show back up on my apple tv?

I had the cloud in my itunes library and then I went on itunes a minute later and it was gone. I have gone into Preferences>Store>Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases, but it's not working.  Now my cloud music, tv shows, and movies are all out of my library and I have no idea how to get them back.
What started this whole issue is the my apple TV stopped showing my shows.  So, I also need to know how to get my shows and movies back on my apple tv.
    HELP!

This works IF the Cloud is working, which it has had a nasty habit of not doing with regularity the last several months. It seemed at first to be isolated, but this is a regular non-feature lately, with Music, TV Shows and Movies. I have brought this behavior to the Forums all too often. Best to download them all to your own "cloud" in the form of a separate media back up drive, they are cheap. Also, if a media type (eg, song, movie, tv show or episode) is no longer available in the iTunes Store, it is solid gone. That is where the cloud gets cloudy...
Hey, it is only content we paid for but can't get.
Oh, my dog just explained it all to me. It's sunny outside and there are no clouds. Wow, he's right again.

  • ITunes Library File "Damaged"???

Recently, I opened iTunes and it said that my iTunes Libary File was damaged, so it had to create a new blank one, meaning that, iTunes opened, and I had no songs. I had to go to my iTunes Music Folder and drag the whole folder into the Libary window in iTunes. I tried restarting and reopening the program, but each time I have to do the same thing. Is there some reason why the file would be damaged? If so, is there a way I can recreate it?

honestly, I'm very happy overall with my MacBook. I'm sure I vented in the forums here more than I should have
My problems today were the result of the last Security Update, I'm sure and it's seems I'm not alone. Also, I'm sure Apple will address it as soon as they can. After too many kernel panics (one of which when I had iTunes open and updating my iPod) resulted in the broken library. But, I've lost my library before in a similar fashion. I wish Apple would give us some utilities to do maintenance on our libraries and even replicate them across multiple machines without needing a .Mac account!
    Oh well!

  • Computer Crashed. iTunes Library Lost. How can I get it back from my iPhone

I have 522 Purchased songs on my iPhone. My computer recently crashed and we got a new hard drive, so all settings were refreshed on my computer. I plugged in my iPhone to transfer my Purchases back to my iTunes library. Again, 522 Purchased songs, and only 303 of them copied. I tried transferring them again, however it didn't transfer anything. Is there anyway I can get the songs back from my iPhone?
Note: My iPhone is on automatic update, and if I try switching it to manual I'm prompted that in order for the change to occur I must Erase and Sync my iPhone which would completely defeat the purpose of my trying to get my music back on my computer so I can put new songs on my iPhone as well.

Purchased songs should be able to be copied back, but if not, maybe you need use other tools. This is a frequently asked question, you can have a look of below answer.

  • How do I get my playlists back onto my iphone after itunes match?

just signed up for itunes match and all my original playlists (the ones I used to sync with my itunes on my computer) are gone.  How do i get these back on my iphone?

Did you ever transfer your music purchases to your computer iTunes? If so, it is simple to use iTunes to replace the music on your iPod.
If you only had your music on your iPod then it is lost. Purchased Apps, however, can be downloaded again at no charge from the App Store.
