ITunes library gets lost after closing.

Been doing this since I was running Windows Vista and the problem persists with Windows 7.  Software is up to date, devices up to date.  The next time I try to open iTunes, I have to re-import all music, and then when I try to sync the device, it does the erase and sync.  This is the only computer I'm using!  Help!

If this is a Sony VAIO, then it's the Vaio media management software doing it, several other Vaio owners have found you need to either stop it from watching the itunes folders, or stop the vaio program that does it.

  • Library gets deleted after I close itunes

    Hello,
For some reason my library gets deleted after closing itunes. When I re-open itunes i can watch my recycle bin get filled up with my library its an .xml file. If I hit restore it does nothing!!! This is getting very annoying, and the geniuses at itunes blame windows (couldn't tell me why) and the sony store (where I got my computer) blames itunes! Also I get a ton of .tmp file in my itunes folder while I use itunes, and they don't delete.

    Anyone!!!!

  • ITunes library has lost the past year's worth of content, but the files are still in the directory

Help! How do I restore the past 11.5 months' worth of content to my iTunes library?
Well this is weird. Suddenly my iTunes library has lost everything added since late January 2014 - almost a year's worth of content. Podcasts, audiobooks, iTunes purchases, MP3s bought elsewhere and imported, movies, TV shows - all gone. Apps added in the past year also seem to be gone, although apps acquired before then have the most current update. As far as I can tell, all of that content is in the file directory structure - it's just not in the iTunes library system.
Curiously, the "last played" data all seems current, except that many of the more recently played songs have gone missing; tracks that were modified in the past year, but were added in 2013 or before, are still listed as being modified in 2014. Anything changed in the past year remains changed; but anything added in the past year simply isn't there.
I have no idea what caused this. Earlier today iTunes crashed for random reasons, but that happens every week or two anyway; and for that matter this issue could have developed a couple of days ago, and I just didn't notice it. (I'm sure it can't be older than that - I would have noticed.)
I've got good Time Machine backups, but I'm not sure how to go about restoring this - I suspect that this help page tells me the steps I need to take, but I'd like to have some confirmation before going through those steps. (And that procedure doesn't involve Time Machine anyway, right?)
Theoretically I suppose I could also go through my directory and add the files to iTunes, one by one, but it would be extraordinarily complicated to figure out what needed to be added. I'd also like to get back all the metadata - played, unplayed, play count, last played, and so on.
Restoring the files from Time Machine doesn't seem to make sense to me, because the files aren't actually missing. Would restoring an iTunes Library.itl file help at all?
    Thanks in advance!

Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
    Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.)

  • Aperture 3: GPS data gets lost after 'Update from Master'

My library contains photos in JPEG format that I geotag in Places, then I save the metadata with 'Write IPTC Metadata to Master'. The problem I have is, that the GPS data gets lost after I do an 'Update from Master', even if I saved the metadata before. I'm having this problem with referenced and managed photos and all my JPEGs from several different cameras. The only way to permanently store the GPS info into my photos seems to be to export the geotagged photos as versions.
Does anybody has the same problem or knows how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

Use Houdah geo (http://www.houdah.com) to write location data back to the EXIF. It's interface is very similar to Places (Google maps and pins) and you can interface with the Aperture library. It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it done now rather than wait for an Aperture 3 fix, then...

  • Had to restore cpu to factory settings and itunes library was lost.  help!

I had to restore my cpu running, windows xp, to the factory settings and my entire itunes library was lost. I uploaded these songs from cd's I owned and then sold these cd's. the version of itunes on my cpu is about five years old, the ipod software needs to be reloaded and the ipod software version is on 7 something. I am worried that if I load the ipod software and download the latest version of itunes that the library will sync the ipod to its content, which is nothing, and I will lose all my prized music. Please advise how I can transfer my music from my ipod to my itunes library under the stated conditions. Thank you for your help

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay:
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Is there a way to keep iTunes library on AppleTV after sync and then...

Is there a way to keep iTunes library on AppleTV after syncing with my iTunes library on my MacBookPro and then erasing library on the MBP so that I can save HD space?
Will they just auto sync and either erase library on AppleTV or copy complete library from AppleTV to MBP?
Thank you for any insight you can give.

Is there any change on this with Take 2? I was really hoping I would be able to specify which movies are on both ATV and my computer, and which are only on ATV. I don't have enough disk space on my MBP to store all the movies I want to have on my ATV!

You will not get recharged if you download them from the Purchased section of the iTunes Store and you are signed in with the Apple ID they were originally purchased with.

  • ITunes keeps launching even after closing.

After upgrading to Yosemite, iTunes will spontaneously start after closing iTunes 12.01.26

Close is not the same as Quit:
    click the red ball on the left top and iTunes window is closed, but iTunes is still running: see the light under the Dock icon;
to quit you must quit from the menu bar, or when it is the foremost window by CMD Q key combination.

  • My computor crashed. All my songs in my itunes library were lost. After I restarted my computor, I started a new library with new itune songs. When I tried to download them on my iphone, itunes wanted to get rid of my old songs on my iphone. What can I do

My computor crashed. I lost my music from my itune library. After I restarted my computor to work again, I started a new itune library with new songs. When I tried to download my new songs to my iphone, itunes said it had to erase all my old songs in order to install the new songs. Is there a way to install new songs without getting rid of my old songs?

That is the way the iphone works.
You need to copy everything from your backup copy of your computer.

  • My iTunes library has disappeared after updating, how do I get it back?

Upon opening iTunes it pops up with "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file..."
I've saved my iTunes library on an external hard drive and have been accessing it fine until recently. Now when I open it it pops up with that and when I open itunes all my music is gone.

  • Getting apps from iTunes Library to iPhone after a restore.

Hello thanks in advance for your answers. I did search the forum but did not find an answer I could work with.
My iPhone 3GS was acting up and I was told to restore it. Before restoring, I transfered purchases, synced the phone and created a back up.
*Okay all went well except for one thing:* my apps are in the iTunes Library but NOT on my iPhone. The only apps on my iPhone are the standard apps that come with the iPhone; no apps that I downloaded are on my iPhone. I don't care about any data in the apps as there wasn't much.
*How do I get the apps from the iTunes Library to my iPhone?*
    Thanks again!

Select the ones you want again via the apps tab when your phone is plugged in.

  • After a power outage my Itunes library is lost

I am North of the Arctic circle at work, and today while talking to my wife she informed me that the family Itunes library is empty. Here are the details
1- I have a Mac mini server running in the basement on a flat screen TV, I use this as my home enertainment center. There are Apple TVs on the rest of the TV's in  the house and I have home sharing on
2- thunder storms have caused a power outage
3- The library has been cleaned. The items i still had for down load are still down loading, but all my movies, songs, apps, ect are not listed.
4- I was always going to get around to backing it up, and didn't. Iknow, I know
I think all the items are still there, I tunes just can't find them. One of the two hard drives was approaching full and i was looking at relocating the itunes files to the second hard drive, BUT being a novice with computers I was stumbling and never got it done. I had looked into it and remember scrolling through the screens that had been listed in forums.
I wonder if i did move the files and the restart finished what i had screwed up?
    So here is the questions
How do i search for Itunes files? the program runs, but the data is not there
How do i teach Itunes to look where i dropped the files when and if i find them?
thank you for looking, thank you more if you have an answer
