ITunes Library Interface Corrupted.

Hi all
I'd be grateful for any solutions to this iTunes problem.
When I double-click a track in my iTunes Library, iTunes skips to a different track.
The original track may then disappear, the album track list may re-order itself, with tracks titles disappearing or duplicating.
Artwork and track titles are also mis-labelled.
See below link. Titles duplicated, but track running times do not match:
http://prntscr.com/2ft38t
See below, tracks appear correctly in Windows Explorer:
http://prntscr.com/2ft3zg
Now I double-click a random track on this album (North Country Blues) and this happens:
http://prntscr.com/2ft4h6
Skipped to a different song and album. Original track gets renamed or moves or disappears from the iTunes interface altogether.
Everything works fine if I work from Windows Explorer and open files with a different media player.
Many thanks.
Ray

Thanks, dude - I'll mark that as helpful, although I already read that article.
Turns out my corruption was worse than I outlined. I found files that had been renamed.
This is what I've done:
I trashed the iTunes folder in the default location ~/Username/Music
I reopened iTunes and went to Preferences and set the location to my external drive array
I then went through all the files and "cleaned them up" (renamed files that needed it - created folders and put files in them - etc.)
Now, I'm going through those folders one by one and reloading them into the Library.
When I get finished I'll do what I SHOULD have been doing all along - making backups of that directory. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
Thanks again for your reply

Having a bad day my iTunes library got corrupted and my back up disk has failed how can I restore my purchases from the iTunes store? When I try it tells me the pruchases have already been downloaded to this computer.

Does your purchased rmusic appears under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) ? If they do and you don't have the cloud symbol against them so as to re-download them, then do you still have the entries for them in your library i.e. where you would normally click on them to play them ? If you do then try deleting them from there (iTunes will be seeing them and assuming that you still have them somewhere) and they should then get the cloud symbol for re-downloading in the Purchased link.
If you aren't in a country where music can be re-downloaded then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page,

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • ITunes Library.itl corrupt

iTunes Library.itl corrupt. This is what i get when i open my itunes from this afternoon. i have instaled and removed and reinstatled itunes at least 3-4 times and still happens and also have run a chkdsk check more than once and it still comes up. can any one help thanks you

If deleting the files will help you out, and Windows is not letting you delete the files because they are corrupt, try Move on Boot. This little program has helped me out of a couple of jams. It's free and on Cnet:

  • How would I save my customized iTunes library interface?

    Hello all
I want to reboot my hard drive due to some operating problems and corrupted files, and as I did rudely discover in my previous attempts, all information in my personalized iTunes library along with (obviously) the program itself was lost, despite my attempt at backing the library up.
Now, I have amassed and organized a somewhat large collection of music on my iTunes again, have all the files backed up outside the computer itself, and I need to do a bit of house cleaning. So I guess my question is whether there is any way I can save the interface of my iTunes library, edited and customized information and all?
    thanks in advance

You cannot use his library any more than he can use yours. You can, however, use Home Sharing:

  • ITunes library file corrupt after updating?

Just the other day I updated to the latest iTunes software. This is the first time I've tried to use it and it keeps freezing (the swirly rainbow icon) until I eventually have to give up and force quit. My iTunes library is on an external hard drive which has admittedly been taking longer and longer to boot up each time I connect it, I don't know if this is related.
After doing some research on here I created a new test iTunes library on my hard drive and it worked perfectly, so it must be a corrupt library file? I followed the advice on an old thread and replaced the corrupt library file with an older one from December.
It worked....but here's the complication. Since that last backup in December I started using iTunes Match. When I opened the older library file, I saw that iTunes Match wasn't turned on, so I turned it on and it was saying that none of my library had been uploaded to iCloud except for iTunes purchases. I quickly exited, because frankly I couldn't bear the thought of all my library having to be uploaded to iCloud again (it took days and days...and days!). The music is still on the iCloud, but if I open that older version of my iTunes library it doesn't seem to think that it is.
Any idea what I should do?
    Thanks for your help

hmmmm. perhaps try running a chkdsk over the drive on which your iTunes library file is stored:

  • ITunes library file corrupt PLEASE HELP

My sister and I both got new iPods for Christmas. I had an extensive library, while she was brand new and I just added songs to hers. We have Windows XP and I figured since we have different screens, we'd have different iTunes. I just updated hers and went to open my iTunes. What opened was a blank screen and the message "The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\Kaitlyn\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility." I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT TO DO AND I AM HYSTERICAL. If someone could PLEASE answer me, you would save my Christmas. Thank you.

This is an image of what my iTunes looks like right now. If I follow the instructions on the website, everything will come back? I mean, I had SO MANY songs a few hours ago and now it looks like this...

I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions. It's just that I am so nervous about losing everything. Also, on that site, it doesn't say that it's a corrupt .itl file... will it still work?

  • Restoring iTunes Library from corrupted external hard drive

I had my iTunes library and all the associated files on an external hard drive.  This was working fine until I plugged this external hard drive into my TV to watch a movie.  When I plugged my external hard drive back into my Macbook it is no longer readable, the file structure was corrupted and it will not mount.
I got a program to recover the files and this seemed to work.  It was able to recover all the files however not the same file structure or file names etc.  Just the files.  So now I have all my files back but they are all sequentially named and stored in folders based on file type i.e. not the same folder structure or location as before.  One good thing though is that I have found the itunes library files in all the mess.
Does anyone know how I would go about restoring my itunes library with this?  I have the library files and all the audio/video files but they are not in the same location nor do they have the same names or folder structure.  Basically before they were organized by iTunes in folders by Artist and now they are in folders by file type (eg mp3, avi, mp4 etc).  Is it possible to restore it all?  Could I just import all the songs back into itunes and then somehow restore the library file to get all my ratings and playlists back?
    Or did I lose everything?

I have also found a couple of itunes library files that were recovered from the corrupted hard drive.  I have about 5 previous library files and I also have two .xml library files.  Would there be a way to somehow salvage my ratings etc from these files?  Can i restore the library from these?  Everytime i start itunes and try to select one of them it just says that the library files appear to be damaged and creates new ones.

  • Both iPhoto & iTunes library lost/corrupted within two week of another..

So about two weeks ago, I opened iPhoto and all my pics were gone. Turns out that all my pics were still in there, but somehow the index file was damaged (?) so I've been dragging them all out into a new library slowly since I didn't trust my last backup. Today, I opened iTunes, and it started importing my iTunes library and after a while said it was not a valid library, relabeled it 'damaged' and so on. What could be up? I just replaced my hard drive 2 months ago. Any ideas?

These problems could be related, or maybe not.
Iphoto will have a damaged database if the app is interrupted while writing to the DB. This can be caused by a crash, a force quit. It can happen if the disk is formatted in any way except Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Or, it could indicate disk damage.

  • HT1349 Yesterday, 18/08/2013, my itunes library was corrupted for no apparent reason, the library is intact but all playlists, favourites, guenius, the library rebuilt itself.  PC based not MAC, why?

Yesterday, 18/08/2013, my itunes library began rebuilding for no good reason when itunes was fired up.  It took a fair while with near 400 albums.  The library seems to be intact but all Playlists, Favourites, Purchased items, times played history information was lost.  Most sleeve pictures were recovered but some I noticed were later versions (digitally enhanced for example).
There was a Windows 7 update the night before but I don't remember if itunes was used after this or not.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
I have had to choose the 'ipad' community although this is not the device I use, I can't select itunes as it is not listed.

Thanks for the quick reply... Old habbits die hard when you're a life long PC user :- ) When I was refering to the C: drive, I actually meant my MacBook internal hard drive. I'm using OS X 10.5.2.
No worries. It's just sometimes people don't say what they mean or mean what they think they mean and it can slow down the process. Of course, sometimes I just don't read what people actually wrote.
I keep my external hard drive connected via the Airport Extreme Base Station, and always keep it connected ( in other words, I see it in the Finder SideBar, and it always says connected ).
Hmm. That should mean it's "mounted". However, I do have some vague recollection that using an Airport disk was problematic. However, the articles I read on that were back when the Airport Extreme first debuted. I'm not as conversant with using Airport disks as I just use an external USB drive connected to my MacBook. Sorry I don't have more wisdom...

    Hello there, Plork66,
So glad you have your content and didn't lose any of it! The following Knowledge Base article gives some great guidance on how to clean up duplication in iTunes:
How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2905
One thing to keep in mind is this article was written for a previous version of iTunes. The duplicates option is now located in the View menu in iTunes 11, but the process should be the same.
This should prove very useful for you in getting things cleaned up.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Mail isn't using its library folder anymore, iTunes library damaged/corrupt

    Elp ...
OK, strange things are starting to happen to my iMac running on leopard ...
When I opened Mail today, I was presented with the setup screen. Something that sends shivers down your spine ... so I quickly had a look in my user folder, library, to see what my mail folder was upto. All looked normal in there, so what's going on with my mail? I can import my messages back into mail, but none contained in smart folders and not my accounts ... something I really dont want to have to set up again. How is it that it can fist, loose track of its own folder, then import back mail messages and rules, but not any accounts? Help!
To top it off, my iTunes Library folder appears to be damaged now also, so I've lost all of my playlists. Grrrrr .....
Mozilla wont start also now, it just crashes on startup even after a re-install.
What's happened to my perfect iMac?
Do I have something eating up my preferences? Is there any good free spyware software availible for mac?
just to pull on a few heart strings, I've just had a baby (3 weeks tomorrow), and my computer playing up is the LAST thing i need! I would be so grateful if you could point me in the right direction, or give me some tips to try ... THANKS in advance.

Strange, it happened to me too (mail)
I had backed up the mail folder, but I wonder why it happened..

  • I want to be able to see the names of all composers on my iTunes library interface, for all tracks and albums; how do I do that?y

can you help with my question?

Go to View > View Options, and check the box for "Composer."
This will create a column that displays the Composer field for each track, and will allow searching and sorting on that field.
Depending how carefully your library is tagged, you may find that the field is empty in some cases.  If you wish to update it, right-click the track, Get Info, go to the Info tab and type in the correct information, then OK out.

  • My iTunes library has been corrupted.  Can I restore it from my iPod?

My iTunes library was corrupted by my corporate IS back-up process.  Is there any way to restore it from my iPod?

(I realize this post is very old, but for anyone who comes looking for a solution, I hope this helps!)
I haven't done it in a while, but I believe it can be accomplished by the following (this is for a Windows computer...I don't know about on a mac):
    1. Make sure you can see hidden files and folders on your computer. (look for "Folder Options" in your control panel)
    2. Connect your iPod (but don't let it sync!)
    3. Navigate to your iPod through My Computer.
    4. Find and then copy all of the folders containing music to your computer. Then copy/move them to Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes, or click File>Add Folder to Library in iTunes, and select the appropriate folder(s).
