Itunes library/ itunes files/  2nd computer

I just set up an old Cube as a jukebox on our stereo. Getting the music files to the Cube via external drive was easy enough. Moving the library file has me confused, though. I would like to preserve all the custom info (song ratings) I've worked on over the years - how do I move that from the first computer & access the music files it refers to on the external drive? I seem to get the ! mark on those songs as itunes can't find them. If I just add the files to itunes again I loose my ratings! (And end up with 2 libraries- one with ratings not linked to files, the other with links to files but no ratings.

I might be wrong here, you might have already tried this..
With the music library on the external drive copy over the music library data files and pop them into the usual location.
Open up iTunes and tell it that all the music is in a external location (via the preference menu).
Try that, like I said i might be wrong but i guess its worth a shot.
Here's another thought, would you be able to simply switch on iTunes music sharing? That way you should get a mirrored image of the shared library

When I try to open the shared library on the 2nd computer (the one I want to xfer music to), the only songs that come up are those that are already in that same library (the library on the 2nd computer).  While I can see computer #1 listed under 'shared,' when I click on it the only songs I can see are those that I already have on the 2nd computer.  Hopefully that makes sense.  Basically, the library from computer #1 isn't loading up.

  • Transfering Music from iTunes on 2nd computer

I have used my computer at home to download music and transfer music over to my iPhone.
I am now at work and have iTunes on my computer ... is there anyway to add music to my iPhone from work without loosing all the music I already have on there?
    Just simple steps please!

No - the iPhone does not support disk mode as with an iPod, which is required for this.
Why do you want to have iTunes purchased content on different computers - especially on a computer at work that you do not own? How do you plan on managing your backup for iTunes purchased content on multiple computers?
You can purchase/download music with your iPhone, the same for 3rd party apps, and now video.
IMO, it is best to keep all iTunes purchased content in one location on a single computer for a number of reasons with maintaining a backup being an important one, and just keeping up iTunes purchased content.

  • Itunes Match - 2nd Computer/Library

I have bought and set up itunes match on a macbook pro. I am now on a second laptop - a macbook air. I emptied the itunes library from the air and then turned on itunes match. playlists and their songs from the macbook pro's library have appeared, but not songs in the library. How do I get the songs in the library to appear. Settings are on view music/songs in icloud, I am logged into the same account. I see the music in the playlists, but not the library. What do I do?

    Hi,
If you have set up a new iTunes library on your MacBook Air and signed into match, you should see all the music that that you have in the cloud irrespective of whether you are viewing a playlist or all you music in song view. The difference is that all you music in cloud will have the download icon on the MacBook Air.

  • Manually using itunes with 2nd computer

so i have my ipod all ready but when i want to put a song on it from my other computer, how do i do it? i've set it to manual so it doesnt delete the other stuff but how do i actually get the music on there?
    thanks

    Within iTunes.
Once the iPod is docked, since you've set it to manually manage your iPod's content, under the iPod in the 'Sources' panel, click the currently right-facing arrow. Simply drag tracks between the Music area of your Library and the Music tab under the iPod.

  • Copy itunes to 2nd computer

I currently have my itunes on my desktop (Windows xp). I just received a new laptop (Vista 64 bit) and I'd like to load itunes on it. Can I run itunes on both computers? What is the best way to copy the data from my desktop to laptop? should I load the itunes software from my original cd and then install the new updates via the internet?
    Thanks!!

Can I run itunes on both computers?
    Yes.
What is the best way to copy the data from my desktop to laptop?
Back it up to CDs or DVDs and restore the backup on the new computer, or locate the iTunes folder and move it to the new computer with CDs, DVDs, an external drive, or through a network.
should I load the itunes software from my original cd and then install the new updates via the internet?
No. Get the current version from the Internet.

  • ITunes on 2nd computer

I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question, but I couldn't find an iCloud forum.  I have utilized the new beta features with iCloud which allows me to wirelessly sync my music to other devices(2 iPod touches and an iPad).  I also have a macbook pro.  Can I get my iTunes library on that device as well?  It seem that I should be able to, but I can't figure out how.
    Thanks in advance.
    Gregg

That's the truth...it's not simple trying to sync to 2 PCs and I believe its worse for an iPhone as opposed to the click-wheel iPod models.
You can go ahead and "lose" the music, and sync the new songs from the work PC. Then when you get home, use the transfer purchases feature to get the new music on your home PC. Then resync your iPhone to the home PC.

You might want to only purchase items from only your home PC, in the future.

  • I can see the library on the 2nd computer using home sharing but the library will not load

I have home sharing on both of the computers, I see the library on the machine I was to bring it to but when I select it says loading but then doesn't ever bring in all the music.

I finally got the computer to download the library, 6800 songs. I had to turn off my mcafee real time scan & firewall for 15 minutes on both machines. I them hit import and for the last day and a half it was copy the library to my laptop I thought. I had one pop up at the very end that said it couldn't download one song which wasn't a big deal so I thought I answered it correctly that it was fine to skip it. It was done copying them but they aren't on the laptop, so I am now importing them again what do you suggest I do after it finishes importing this time? Again I wasn't thinking and did a select all instead of just one album but it is going much faster so I believe the songs must be on my laptop.

  • Apps not appearing in iTunes in 2nd machine

My apps, music etc. are stored in a NAS drive at \\MYBOOKLIVE\Public\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
This works well on the 1st computer, which I'm not using soon, but the apps do not appear in the 2nd computer after I have imported the library.
How can I get all the apps which are stored in the NAS drive to appear in the library of the 2nd computer?
    Thanks for help!

Not trying to bump my posts but was really peed off when I wrote the last one. Has anyone any ideas as to why my apps didn't get transferred from itunes temp to apps folder? I have downloaded again and same thing happened.

how can i sync my iPod with new iTunes on new computer without losing my old library? There is no backup iTunes/iPod files available.

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

  • My iPhone has two identical options under "iTunes wi-fi sync" that are the same computer. I only have one user on my  computer, and I tried moving my iTunes file in Finder to organize it and now my library's not synced with my phone. Help?

My iPhone has two identical options under "iTunes wi-fi sync" that are the same computer. I only have one user on my computer, and I tried moving my iTunes file in Finder to organize it and now my library's not synced with my phone. Help?

I have the same problem. Right now my iPhone 5S shows 3 instances of the computer to which it is connected under Settings » General » iTunes WiFi Sync. I'm having problems connecting and syncing, and this is probably the cause: the phone chooses one of these connections, and it isn't the one that's actually in use. What's probably happening is that the phone and computer establish a connection using a dynamic IP address, the address becomes "disassociated" due to error, another address is associated, the phone retains each address/link, and each link is displayed as if it represents a separate computer (the fact that the name of the computer is identical is ignored, as the only thing that is considered important is the IP address). But that's all conjecture. More important, I'm not sure how to fix the problem. A network reset doesn't do it.

  • Can't find previous itunes file after moving info to an external drive to move library to new computer!!!  HELP

I have moved my itunes files numerous times to new computers as I get one.  This last time I had everything running off an external drive, to conserve hard drive space on computer and hopefully from computer failure.  I need to move library over to new computer and get away from old computer that has Windows XP to the computer with windows 7.  After installing itunes on new computer and plugging in external to new computer, it finds all music and movies, etc., however, I can't seem to find the file that has the playlist info, play count, and to see where the backups of my iphone(s) are.  I have been working at this for days to no avail.  It may be right in front of my face but can't see where to find it.  HELP!!!!
