ITunes library lost - how to recreate from iTunes Match?

During an upgrade from Win8 Evaluation copy to Win8 Pro, my upgrade corrupted and I ended up having to reformat my laptop's HDD to do a fresh install of Windows (thanks MS!).  I always used iTunes to keep the library organised and copy everything to the media folder, and stored the media folder on my NAS.  However, I think that the library files (.itl, .xml) and some other data (apps and video?) may have been kept by iTunes in the My Music folder on my laptop.  I also subscribe to iTunes Match, so in theory, all music is there.
Now that Win8 is reinstalled and stable, I've done a clean install of iTunes.  I've been able to change the media folder location to the mapped NAS drive and logged in using my Apple ID.  Although iTunes now shows (what I think is) all my music, it shows it all as being available from iTunes Match (i.e. cloud symbol), rather than locally.
My question is this: how do I get iTunes to recognise that the library contents are available on the designated media folder already?  Ideally I'd like to do this without having to download the ~60GB of music from iTunes Match onto the NAS, as it's already there!  Also, is there anything else I need to do to complete the library, e.g. in case some things exist on my iPhone and aren't currently in the library?  Will I have lost previous backups of phones / iPods?
Finally, so that I don't get caught in this situation again, is it possible to get iTunes to store everything on a remote folder, rather than just music media?  (Note to self: run laptop backup more than once every 6 months in future!!!).
Thanks in advance for your help.

- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- If you are in the USA you can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- You can tansfer non-iTunes music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

    What is your iTunes version?
If iTunes 11, have you checked the "Up Next" list? If it is not empty, try if clearing "UP Next" will help:

  • ITunes Library Lost can't read from Time machine

Hello I am need of some quick assistance. The external HDD the was holding my iTunes library has died. THe hard drive is completely dead. Well its clicking when trying to be read and cannot be repaired through disk utility.
I have a backup of my library on a Time Machine backup drive. I would like to be able to read my iTunes library from there until I can get a new external HDD. Is there anyway to do that? I tried to select a different library at iTunes startup but it says the iTunes library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file. I tried giving myself and everyONE read & write permissions but it didn't work. I applied it to all items.
Please I am in need of serious help.

    Krasi,
Launch the Time Machine "time travel" interface and navigate to where the library is backed up. Now click "Restore" and choose a location on your Macs' hard disk.
If, however, your iTunes Library was on a different HD that was being backed up to your Time Machine backup disk, then you may still be able to get to them. See V.K. comments...
"V.K. - There are two ways to do it.
    1. plug in a new drive and give it the same name as the old external. you'll then be able to use TM in the usual way and when you scroll back in time on that drive your old backups will show up.
    2. if you don't have another external. in finder preferences check the box to show the whole computer in the sidebar. click on the whole computer in the sidebar in finder and start TM scroll back to the time the external was present. it will show up in the TM finder window. navigate to your photos select what you need and hit "restore". you'll be prompted for a restore location."
Let us know if this resolves our issue.
    Cheers!

  • When downloading music, the track sequence is not maintained in my itunes library.  How to arrange tracks to match original album?

When downloading music from itunes, the track sequence is not maintained in my music library as in the original album sequence.  How to rearrange my itunes library track sequence to match that of the original album?  Thanks.

    Are the tracks numbered correctly?
Have you clicked the top of the album column where it says "album" so it is sorted by album?  If you have it sorting by name then it will sort by name.
If you are sorting manually by clicking the top of the leftmost column, you need to drag the tracks in order.

  • Purchased Album Not on iPod or iTunes Library, Can't Re-Download from iTunes Store

After downloading an album from the iTunes store off of my iPod and later syncing my iPod to iTunes on my laptop, the album has disappeared from both my iPod's "Music" section, and from my laptop on iTunes, but when I go the the iTunes Store, on either the laptop or iPod, the album says "purchased" and I cannot re-download it. I can't think of any posible solutions, hopefully you guys can! THANK YOU!

Are you trying to redownload it by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Do you have any Restrictions (Settings>General>Restrictions) set that would hide that album

  • Itunes library disappeared, how to sync from ipod?

I have had my 30gb ipod video for a few months now with no problems. Last night I sync up my ipod and everything was fine. This morning I open itunes and my library is completely empty, and all of my playlists are gone.
I checked my music folder and everything was still there, including the library xml file. Unfortunately I did not back up the xml file, and while trying to remedy the situation itunes overwrote the file with an empty library, so now I have lost all of that data.
I started going through the process of re-importing my music and re-creating all of my playlists when I realized that all of the play count, ratings and other information is now completely lost.
Since my ipod has all of the most current information, is there some way to sync the information from the ipod to my computer?
    Thanks

  • My computer crashed and I lost my itunes library. How can I restore it from my iPod?

My computer crashed and I lost my itunes library. How can I transfer my music from my ipod back to my computer? (I did not back up my entire itunes library.)

Ipod syncing is not one way. You just have to know what to do...
I can see you use windows. Connect ipod to pc, but don't install or dont open itunes - dont alow itunes to sync automaticly). Then open explorer, enable hidden files, open your ipod (as you would any disc) open hidden file with strange names and copy all of them on your new hard drive. Then drag all this strange-named files in your itunes...woooo...now those strange names become your songs...it is magick
I you won't i can send you step by step guide...
    Take care.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "authorised", but I am experiencing a similar problem...or the same, in that Apple TV keeps telling me to enable home sharing in my MacBook Pro. It does not seem to recognize that home sharing is already enabled on my Laptop.
Is home sharing and "authorised" one in the same? It used to work just fine before these recent Apple TV updates.

  • How do I transfer my itunes library to a new computer from my iPhone. The old one no longer works.

How do I transfer my itunes library to a new computer from my iPhone. The old computer no longer works.

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!
