ITunes Library missing

I performed a Windows XP SP2 update today, IE7 was installed. I didn't like it, so I performed a System Restore.
After all of this, my itunes library is nowhere to be found. All my music, playlists, etc. are not showing in itunes.
Also, itunes is not recognizing my second ipod (I have an iPhone and a Shuffle) - I get the "The ipod is synced with another library" message.
When I go into Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General Tab - it shows the correct file path for where my music should be.
Thoughts on where my library went to?

Try doing a search on your hard drive from the top (root) level for "iTunes Music" or "iTunes Library" or "Album Artwork" and see what you find.
If you find more than one folder of, say iTunes Music, be very careful. One is probably an empty folder iTunes created when it didn't find your real folder. The other should have all of your music in it.
iTunes will probably NOT recognize your music if you just drag it to the empty folder. Instead, drag the music into the iTunes playlist and let it recatalog. Be careful how you have iTunes set in preferences. You'll want it to duplicate your music. Otherwise once you throw away the old folder, the aliases will be to missing tracks.

  • Moving ITunes Library - Missing data

Hi, I run my iTunes with iTunes music and associated directories on Drive F. I keep an EXACT copy, not a backup but COPY, of my iTunes Music on drive G.
For various reasons I want to now point my iTunes to use the library on Drive G. I EDIT the preferences to change the location from F: to G: - no issue.
I reload iTunes, click on a track to play it to check the change has worked but the track won't play as it displays as a missing track even though the track is located as part of the iTunes Library I've copied to drive G:
So simple question, what am I doing wrong. I do not want to go thru my whole library, track by track, editing the track information so the iTunes library now looks on drive G for the information as it should do/I expected it to
. I may be naive but I thought the simply changing the library location to drive G: would take care of everything !!!
Txs in advance for any/all help

So simple question, what am I doing wrong.
Changing the iTunes music folder location will simply tell iTunes to use that location for anything in the future.
iTunes will not look in that location for anything already in iTunes.
You need to File -> Library -> Consolidate and iTunes will copy everything to that location and now use that location for everything.
I do not want to go thru my whole library, track by track, editing the track information so the iTunes library now looks on drive G for the information as it should do/I expected it to
    You can do this...
    Quit iTunes.
Copy the iTunes library.xml file to the desktop.
Open it with a text editor and cahnge the path from the old location to the new location.
You can do a simpe Find/Replace.
    Once finished, close the file.
Launch iTunes then File -> Library -> Import playlist.
This should update the paths of the songs.
It will duplicate your playlists but you can simply delete the duplicate.

  • Imported iTunes Library - Missing Artwork

I recently replaced my 2009 Macbook with a 2011 Macbook Pro. My iTunes library had been stored on an external hard drive, so when I got the new computer I exported the library XML file from the old computer and then imported the library into the new one (keeping the library still on the external drive.) Everything seems to work fine, except that a lot of my albums no longer show artwork in iTunes. Choosing "Get Album Artwork" does nothing; it doesn't even bring up a message saying that it couldn't find artwork for it. The artwork shows fine on my phone, iPod, and the old computer, and I can even see it in the thumbnails in the Finder, but I can't get it to show up in iTunes. I don't want to manually get the artwork and apply it because I've got at least a couple hundred albums that this has happened to. Any ideas on how to fix it?

If you've moved countries since buying them, or if the rights-holder has removed them from the store, then they won't show in the cloud for redownloading. If they are still in the store and don't show for redownloading then check to see if you've hidden them : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
(If it's an iPod Touch and they are not showing on it then they might also be hidden if you've set age restrictions in Settings > General > Restrictions/)
If you can't redownload them and you still have them on your iPod then you should be able to copy them back from the iPod to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. Or copy them back from your backup of your downloads/library and add them to your iTunes library via File > Add To Library

  • ITunes library missing half its content - Help please!!

Hello, I was importing an audiobook into iTunes today. I used a programme called Chapter and Verse to convert the mp3 into an mp4 audiobook and then import it into iTunes. I had 100+ books in my library, various apps and lots of music. Now I have 1 book, no apps and hardly any music. iTunes seems to be pointing to the correct place on my PC but it isn't reading it right. What happened? What can I do?
    thx.

Now that I've had time to careful examine your directions (since I don't have a home network set up, don't really see the need for one, just more sh*t to break, more potential holes for crackers, etc), I realize this isn't going to work for me.
The problem is that I made a crucial error when I first set up my music folders.
In order to save space, I didn't create one folder where all of the songs/pics/videos would be stored that I placed on my iPod. So I would simply copy the albums/songs to the iTunes library, but leave the physical location alone. With my present computer, hdd space was a limitation, esp since I like to play with a lot of different formats not compatible (WHY OH WHY has Apple not ported the Ogg codec to the iPod--it's completely free and it would add another level or flexibility to the products, giving another edge over Zune and other competitors, but that's another post).
Therefore, the songs on my iPod were in four different locations. Since I have heavily customized them, "consolidation" simply won't work. And recreating the file structure on my new PC (arrives tomorrow) simply won't work without a LOT of extra work.
While I will lost my song counts, ratings and have to relocate a lot of album artwork, that will be far easier than recreating the folder structure (since I don't want to lose my customizations."
Thanks again for your help. I'll file it away for "next" time.
    Appreciate it.

  • Rebuilt iTunes library missing video

Tonight iTunes crashed while I was importing a file. It froze, no biggy. I force quit it and reopened it.
When I opened it, iTunes had to rebuild the library. Unfortunately once it had finished, my albums were all there, but my movies and tv shows were missing (from DVDs).
i went to the media folder in finder, all of the videos are still there, but iTunes isn't seeing them.
My question is, how do I restore them?

  • My iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2.  I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each one upon reinstalling the backup copy? Thank you for help

Almost my iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2. (the last 2.5 weeks worth of added music has transferred post-upgrade, none of whcih was bought from iTunes)
I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each playlist upon reinstalling the backup copy? This would save a HUGE amount of time and efforts. Thank you for your help!

    hi Limnos,
I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th.  (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists)  The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29.  (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?
    Thank you for your help!

My Itunes Library and iPhone have fallen out of sync on music over the yearsare - how can I compare my itunes library with my Iphone  to see what songs are missing from my library so I can then bring my Library up to date

    Hello Solid Buck,
Thank you so much for providing the details about the duplicate song issue you are experiencing.  It sounds like you would like to remove the duplicate songs that will not play on your iPhone, but when you connect it to iTunes, iTunes only shows you one copy of the song on your iPhone.
In this situation, I recommend deleting the individual songs that do not play directly from your iPhone.  I found the steps to do this on page 61 of the iPhone User Guide (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf):
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ITunes library mysteriously dissapeared (not the actual files where they are stored) and once I transfered songs back to iTunes, some purchased songs had been corrupted (missing tags

Last week, I purchased around 9-10 songs. The previous day, I had played songs from my iTunes library... everything working normal. The day after purchasing those 9-10 songs... I noticed that my entire songs in my library (and playlist) where gone, essentially being re-set like new. I updated my iTunes version, re-started my PC and still... nothing was showing up except those 9-10 songs. I did the next logical thing which was to check the actual music folder that stores the songs. They where all there. It did not make any sense as I had not done or noticed anything unsual while using iTunes before. Now, I want to mention that I use a DJ software (mixvibe) with the ION Discovery DJ that pulls tracks from iTunes. For the past couple of months they both have worked great. Fast forwarding to my issue, I went ahead and copied all the music back to iTunes. I spent a good hour making sure that everything worked and re-created my playlists. One thing that struck me as odd was that while checking everything... some songs that I had purchased recently and even a couple of months ago that I've used on my mixvibe software... had the track info deleted. The only information was the track name, ex. (01 - Bird One). For some reason, they were dumped into a "Unknown Artists" file. There was a good 20-25 songs that had this issue. The one thing that I noticed was that when I would highlight the song within the Uknown Artist folder... All of the information including cover art was showing up at the bottom of the folder (if you are familiar with Windows 7 you know what I'm talking about). How can it be that all of the actual information was still there yet not showing up in iTunes? I had to manually go one by one of those 20-25 songs and add all of the track info (as much as I could). I was also able to recover some of the cover art but not all. It seems like the files got corrupted. Can I re-download these tracks again or how can I get them to how they were originally? HELP!

I find the best way to do this is to right click on the song in iTunes and convert then select convert ID3 tags to V1.1 this usually completes the tag and adds all the missing info, provided it is in iTunes corectly.
Were these songs you Dled or ripped form a cd directly?

  • Tried to import iTunes library from desktop to laptop via Homesharing but everything didn't import.  How do I get missing content?

The whole story: I tried to transfer my iTunes library via Homeshare from my desktop to my laptop but not all of my library imported.  Both computers are authorized and almost all of the 99GB of music was imported from my own cds. I couldn't tell what was missing and I figured a computer person would have an easy way to figure this out.  In the meantime, I added about 20-25 more cds to the library on the laptop.  I had a computer guy come out because I wanted to merge the two libraries so I can get rid of the desktop.  He dragged and dropped several folders onto the external hard drive and then dragged and dropped those into my music folder on the laptop.  Now I have a big mess!  I have tons of duplicates, but the entire library didn't duplicate so I am still not sure if all of my music made it over. He wants to delete all of the duplicates but I explained that I don't want to break up albums and I had already gone through the process of finding "exact duplicates" and deleting those on the desktop before I started all of this.  I talked to a Geek Squad guy at Best Buy who suggested I delete everthing from the laptop and start over.  He wants me to open iTunes on my desktop and select all, then drag that to a new folder on the external hard drive.  Then reinstall iTunes on the laptop and drag and drop that folder into it. I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Please know that I am not very computer literate so please type slowly so that I will understand ;-)  Thanks
Sidenote:  I did sign up for IMatch and had Apple scan both libraries.  Not all of my music showed up there either.  I am missing entire albums, etc. and I have not reached the maximum limit, 25,0000 songs. Should I purchase TuneUp Media to fix any metadata once I get my complete library onto my laptop?  I just want my entire library together, in one place so that I can move forward and back it up properly. Thanks for any help.

Delete whatever was imported to the new computer via HomeSharing.
Stop using HomeSharing to move content.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
Everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer.

I have copied my iTunes library onto a new computer, but when I play back the songs using the new computer, there seems to be random "miss" or "drop out" during play back, similar to a small scratch on a vinyl record.  Although when I play the same song over again, the "miss" occurs in a different location during the song.  No probs with old computer, just the new one.  I'm onto my third new computer - same problem.  Any suggestions please?

You don't say which version of iTunes you are using, but the symptoms you describe have been encountered by some users with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.
There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent.  The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer.  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).  It may also be necessary to ensure that your Bluetooth speakers are active and selected as the default audio device before you run iTunes.
If this doesn't address the issue, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.
