ITunes library movies on tv?

I have an external harddrive with my entire collection of dvds ripped onto it. The amount of movies exceeds what my Macbook could hold (memory wise) so this harddrive functions as my itunes library. It is then plugged into a time machine and broadcast through a wifi network in my house that lets me access my itunes library, from my laptop, anywhere.
What I wanna know, is if I get an apple TV, is it possible to view all the movies I own on my harddrive (as I would in grid view in Itunes) on my TV, and scroll through them with a remote, if I connect the apple tv to my wifi network? Same thing goes for my tv shows?
Thanks.

Okay.
So Christmas time comes and goes, I get a brand new, shiny, apple tv under the tree. I rush home in a fit of excitment and plug my apple tv into my tv and my wifi network. From there, I can watch my 300+ movies on my tv? Like, from what you said there seems to be an intermediary? But if the apple tv connects to the itunes library there isn't the need for an intermediary?
Clearly I'm confused. But it would be great if you could let, describe exactly how this would work?
All I want to be able to do is watch my itunes library movies stored on an external harddrive and broadcast over a wifi network (via time capsule) on my tv....

  • HT1751 Followed instructions on how to consolidate iTunes library, move to external hard drive and restore library back up but my iTunes is still empty.

    Recently bought a new macbook pro and obviously the first thing I want to do is move over my itunes library from my PC and keep my playcount.
    The instructions I followed are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    As I got down to Step 7 in 'Restoring your iTunes Library backup', I chose my iTunes library file and waited for everything to be restored but then nothing came up on my iTunes. My iTunes is still empty.
    Is there perhaps another way for me to transfer my iTunes library and my playcount will still be retained? Help on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • HT4527 iTunes Library Move, Still can't sync

    My wife and I separated and I transferred my iTunes data from our home MAC to my personal PC so I can have it.  I have tried and tried to sync my iPhone with my new computer and it fails every time.  I have authorized this computer through the store but when I try and move data from my library to my iPhone it says it is synced to her computer and will have to be erased to sync to mine.  If I do that I will lose all of my data that is in the different applications.
    I saw a thread that had a program to buy via Wide Angle to back up all my data onto my computer, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it back from my computer to my iPhone.
    BL: how do I sync my phone to this new (transferred) library without losing my data?  Will it allow me to sync music, apps etc?  because currently it doesnt.
    THanks

    See this migrate iTunes library post. Did you pull over the entire iTunes folder, or just the media folder? There is a link in there if you no longer have access to the original database.

  • Movies in itunes library - move to ipad?

    I have 2 movies in my itunes library that don't show up on the ipad when they're synced. How do I move them to the ipad?

    I have 2 movies in my itunes library that don't show up on the ipad when they're synced. How do I move them to the ipad?
    This usually results from using one of the "Automatic Include" mode options under the "Movies" tab for your iPad device. Simply deselect the "Automatic Include" check box, select the specific files to be synched to your iPad, and press the "Sync" button at the bottom of the "Movies" area.

  • Manage iTunes library - move audio files

    Hi,
    the audio files of my itunes library are stored on two drives. The internal driver and one external music-drive. Since my internal drive is becoming full, I'd like to move some of my files from the internal disk to the external drive. Is there a smart process or tool which supports keeping the link of the moved files?

    This is a crude proof of concept that works as a Windows vbs script:
    Set FSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set iTunesApp = CreateObject("iTunes.Application.1")
    Set Tracks = iTunesApp.SelectedTracks
    For I = 1 to Tracks.Count
    Set Track = Tracks.Item(I)
    If Track.Kind = 1 Then
    Name = Track.Name
    Artist = Track.Artist
    Album = Track.Album
    TrackPath = Track.Location
    Ext=Right(TrackPath,4)
    NewPath=Left(TrackPath,Len(TrackPath)-4)
    NewPath = InputBox("Edit path/filename for:" & nl & nl & _
    "Artist : " & Artist & nl & _
    "Album : " & Album & nl & _
    "Track : " & Name,"Move Track",NewPath) & Ext
    Set F = FSO.GetFile(TrackPath)
    F.Move(NewPath)
    Track.Location = NewPath
    End If
    Next
    There's no error checking, it processes the currently selected tracks and it needs a new location for each file in turn. It could easliy be changed to work with, for example, the current playlist, and programmed to search for a segment of the path to be replaced with a new value. The basic principle is that you read a track's existing location, create a new one either by text input or by manipulating the value of the current path, move the file to the new location, then update iTunes so that it looks in the correct place. As the track object is never removed from the library all playlist references and other volatile metadata such as playcounts should remain intact.

  • ITunes Library - Move to external HD, but keep extracting on laptop.  How?

    Appleoids--
    I am preparing to buy an iPod. Therefore, I am converting my entire CD collection to AAC-128 on my laptop at work via "Copy & Eject" with a stack of CDs as I work. Due to the size of my collection, this will go on for months and my laptop is filling up.
    I bought an external firewire hard drive. My intent is to sync my future iPod from the extrenal drive when it is plugged hooked to my laptop. I did some research and found how to move my library from my laptop to my external hard drive.
    However, after I move the library, I will be continuing to extract music from my CDs to AAC at work without the external HD hooked up. It appears to me that iTunes is set up so that if you import from CDs, it only loads into the library. So I'm unclear what will happen when I try to extract AACs from CDs when the external drive is not connected. I don't see how to have a second library or how to extract without storing the resulting AACs in the libarary. Also, I am unclear how I would extract the new extractions from my laptop and add them to my external HD libarary.
    It appears iTunes/iPod sync works seamlessly if you have one computer with a hard-drive that will hold all your music. Beyond that, you need a phD in iTunes to figure out how to make things work.

    OK, Bruce--That was clear and I'm very close to understanding this. Your answer to the "Consolidate Library" causes me some disturbance, however. Not in your answer, but in the way iTunes does this, as that's NOT what I need.
    I basically keep two sets of music. One is stuff I record and manipulate, or download live music from torrents, the other is CDs I rip. The first doesn't go into the iTunes music folder, at least not until I convert it to AAC after manipulating it for later use on my iPod. Basically, the iTunes music folder itself is what I want consolidated, and what I will use for lossy files for use in syncing my future iPod. But I often listen to the full, unedited, lossless files in iTunes, which means iTunes is 'aware' of them (i.e. they are in the library now). So even if I remove the playlist, I think they are still in the library. I sure as **** wouldn't want every full-size, giant sound file in the iTunes library, but not in the iTunes music folder, copied to an external drive!
    What I want is for every file IN MY iTunes MUSIC FOLDER to be copied to the external drive. That is, all my AACs and mp3's that I intend to listen to on the iPod. Short of going through thousands of library entries and removing all references to other files, and never listening to 'other' files on iTunes again, is there a way to do this? I'm looking for a 'Consolidate Old iTunes Music Folder into New iTunes Music Folder on External Hard Drive' function. I think there is a way to do this with xml editing or something, but my brain isn't that big.
    ANOTHER QUESTION - Making Tags in iTunes
    I am ripping a bunch of live recordings from Jam bands that a friend gave me. Of course, none of these concerts are in GraceNote. So iTunes says "import anyway?" and I say yes. Then, while it's ripping I do a command-A, command-I and do a group tag change. Problem is, though all are marked, the first track ends up in the "Unknown" folder. I guess it can't get tagged and rip at the same time. Is there an easy way to halt the import until all the tags are marked, or something else that will achieve the same result?

  • ITunes library move to external hard drive

    Hi guys, I am wondering if u can help me, I have run out of room on my laptop, its 5yrs old and capacity of 100gb. I have recently tried to upgrade my iPhone to the iOS 5 but alas, I don't have any room to do so.
    So I have copied my music library across to an external hard drive, changed my iTunes library to search for the music to where the files are kept on the external hard drive and consolidated the library ( basically everything that the apple support forum told me to do)
    However , when I click a song to play on iTunes, the exclamation Mark pops up and I need to physically locate each track back to where it is in the file in the external hard drive.
    Is there an easier way to do this?? Any help would be great thanks
    Peter

    Did you use iTunes to copy the mosic or did you manually copy the folders to the external drive?
    I used iTunes to moemy music folder to a new 1 tb drive and it worked perfectly.  I have had an issue with some iTunes updates reverting back to the original location and then need to go back through the steps again.

  • ITunes Library: Movies and Music in Different Places

    Hey all:
    I've been wanting to move my movies in iTunes to an external harddrive simply because they take up so much space, but I like having iTunes "manage" my files so that if I change the name of a song, it will change the file name as well, etc. Is there a way to move my movies to the harddrive but leave my music where it is and still have iTunes read everything ok? I tried just moving one of the files, but since it's a "digital copy" downloaded from the iTunes store, iTunes won't read it until I put it back in the original "movies" folder within the "iTunes>Music" folder.
    Thanks.

    Look at this software. I think it does what you are wanting. I have used it and it works well.

  • Itunes library move from mac to pc

    Hi, how can I move the songs at iTunes in a mac to pc?

    There are a number of ways to do that.
    You can use Homesharing
    Or you can simply put all the files on an external drive and just copy them across.

  • HT1751 Is it possible to use single external iTunes Library from multiple computers (my mac book, pc, mac mini)

    Hi,
    I recently decided to maintain my itunes libraries distrubuted onto different computers. (such as mac mini, mac book, pc)
    I am planning to consolidate one of my iTunes library, move it to external source and configure external hard drive to be used by my iTunes library permanently.
    For this purpose, I bought 5big NAS pro network storage hardware. I completed all basic setup and now I need help on designing access methodology.
    Question is : Does external iTunes library supports to be used by more than one iTunes application? if not what will be the closest solution to save storage and ease of library management?
    Thanks in advance

  • Spliting the itunes library

    Not sure if this is a complain, a suggestion, or a question. If any one knows how to solve this, please let me know. I am wondering if there is a way to make itunes put movies and TV in the Users/[Username]/Movies directory, as opposed to the Users/[Username]/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library/Movies, and yet still leave the all the music files inthe [Username]/Music directory. If not, hey, why does the [Username]/Movies directory even exist anyway... Apple, give us more options with organizing the library.

    don't think you can do what you want, Unless somebody else knows different.
    The username/Movie folder is there for such apps as iMovie to use as a default folder for storing iMovie Projects

  • Moving iTunes library to TC

    Good Day!
    I have a 2gb 3rd gen Time Capsule (TC) with a couple USB drives hanging off of it. I have a MacBook Pro which currently houses my iTunes library (movies, music, books and podcasts) but some of the movies I have added already live on a drive hanging off the TC (when I added them to iTunes I pointed to the file on the shared drive). So...I am about to organize all my stuff and want to move all the actual files off my MBPro. In addition to the MBPro I have a 3rd gen Apple TV, 2nd gen iPad and an iPhone 4s. I have two questions. One, if I move all my data files to one of the external drives on the TC will I be able to access those file from all my listed devices? Two, if I go on a trip and want to take a couple movies or books with me on either the MBPro or iPad how do I do that since I will not have access to the shared TC drive once I leave my local net?
    Thanks!

    One thing I forgot to mention.... I have an old intel based 2ghz core 2 duo Mac Mini (actually it was a 1.xghz and has a 2ghz processor installed and the max ram of 2GB. Can this device be used in the schema to "serve" the media to other devices?

  • HT1535 iTunes Library Access on iPad

    I synch'd my ITunes.  However, I can't locate or view my iTunes library (movies) on my iPad.  What next?

    When you sync movies to the iPad, you view them in the Videos app. Not in iTunes.
    Are you sure that the movies were selected to sync? If you are using iTunes 11, it might help if you enable the sidebar by going to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes menu.
    Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.
    Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices. (See above about the sidebar)
    Click on the Movies Tab on the right at the top of the iTunes window
    Click on all of the Movies that you want to sync.
    Click on the Sync Music Heading.
    Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
    You may also have syncing of Movies restricted due to content so check Settings>General>Restrictions>Allowed Content>Movies.

  • How best to maintain itunes library on home NAS storage

    I would like to set up an external drive for 1) backups, 2) hosting my iTunes library and 3) storing my Lightroom files.  Ideally the device would provide RAID reduncancy.  I would like to sync my iTunes enabled Apple devices to sync to this iTunes library wirelessly throughout the house.  NAS would be nice to allow my iMac to be turned off and still have access to the storage device.  Thunderbolt attachment would be acceptable if a disconnected NAS device would not work for these purposes.  I'd like to edit photos on my internal flash drive and save them on the external library...
    Has anyone solved this configuration issue?  What connections did you use and what HD device is working well for you?
    Thanks!   Dana

    Chris,
    Thanks for following up with this.  Since these files are being *newly added* to the iTunes library from my collection, which was on DVD-R and is going to be on hard drive in one big folder, I thought that the 'watched' folder would be the best way to get them into iTunes.  Is there a better, more efficient way?
    As for *moving* the library, here is what I am proposing to do:
    Make sure the following are     checked in iTunes Preferences>Advanced:Keep iTunes Media      Folder Organized
    Copy files to      itunes folder when adding to library
    Create Folders on new 2 TB Drive
    iTunes
    iTunes Library inside of the itunes folder just created.
    Change location of Library in     iTunes to TB Drive
    Edit>Preferences>Advanced
    2 TB Drive/iTunes/iTunes Library
    Move library to new location
    'Manage' Library      to create copies in new location of existing files
    File>Library>Organize      Library>Consolidate Files
    Delete old library (media     files)Music/iTunes      Media (or iTunes Music)
    Make iTunes Library Portable
    Quit iTunes
    Copy iTunes database files into      iTunes Folder on TB Drive
                Library Files
                Album Art Folder
                etc.
    Choose NEW Library
    Hold down shift      while opening iTunes and choose new Library Location
    Choose New Library
    Select TB/iTunes/iTunes      Library
    Delete iTunes management files     [iTunes Folder] on C: Drive
    Add new tracks to iTunes     LibraryClick and drag      files into 'Automatically Add Files to Itunes Library' Folder or Shortcut
    I know that this is a lot to read, and I hope you can follow my logic.  I really hope it is correct, because in my head, I have it all mapped out!
