ITunes Library Not Appearing

Suddenly my libraries are not appearing on the iTunes desktop when it opens. For example, the left hand column shows I have 75 podcasts in my library. However, when I click on this menu item none of them appear on the iTunes screen. I did check the iTunes folder and everything is there but it won't appear within iTunes itself. Anyone have any ideas or solutions? TIA

Yes, I am signed in to iTunes match on the macbook pro, iPhone , & iPad (all updated & correct music libraries) where I bought all the tunes but still no updated tunes on the iPhoto music library after 3 days of being on iTunes match.

  • ITunes Does Not Appear in the List of Default Programs?

My wife is trying to get iTunes to be her default media player, using the instructions found at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3202.
However, when she goes to the list of default programs, following steps 1 and 2 at that link, iTunes does not appear in the list.
    How can we correct this?
Thanks very much in advance for any info.

    Vik-
I was having this same problem. I understood how to change the default program but like yours my iTunes was not in the list so therefore I was unable to set it to default.
This worked for me: (I have Vista)
I checked for updates on my iTunes program and there was an overdue update. I installed and restarted iTunes. Then went to my Default Programs tab and followed the instructions just as described in the support material and after my installation of the newest update my iTunes was now listed in the lineup of available default programs.
I hope this works for you as well!
    Thanks and good luck!

Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

  • Some of the items in the itunes library not were not copied to the itunes phone because you have not authorized them for this computer

I'm getting a "some of the items in the itunes library not were not copied to the itunes phone because you have not authorized them for this computer" error message for some of my songs when I'm syncing to my iphone to my laptop.  I've authorized the computer, but I still get this error messge.  Any suggestions?

Were these items purchased with a different Apple ID than the one you normally use?  If so, authorized the computer for that Apple ID.

  • I was wondering how to log out of itunes library, NOT the store

I was wondering how to log out of an itunes library, NOT the store. There has to be some way to switch the account (not homesharing)

In terms of your iTunes library, the only account involve IS the store and homesharing.  There is no other account to log out of/ into ... what are you trying to accomplish?

  • Aperture - Album from Shared Library Not Appearing in iTunes

I have a recurring problem which is making Aperture downright useless.
I operate a shared Aperture library (shared between 2 users on the same iMAC) which resides in the 'Shared' Users folder. Obviously we cannot have the same library open at the same time -that's no problem. I have set the sharing properties for the library contents and folders to Read and Write for both of us.
The problem is that when I add photos and create a new Project ad Album to put them in (not worried about the other user at the moment), these don't show up in the Aperture album or project list in Photos in iTunes to sync to my iPad or iPhone.
I have this very minute added a new album, closed Aperture and made sure its written to disk. Then I have closed the iTunes app and made sure it has quit.
Then when iTunes loads up again and I connect my device - the library and project do not appear in the items to sync.
This happens all of the time and it's making Aperture pretty pants. If the only resolution is to rebuild thumbnails, rebuild XML file etc or any more of that - then its not fit for purpose.
Has anybody a long term permanent fix for this?
It's seriously doing my head in!

Bumping this up as it seems that nobody has any idea.

  • Dowlnloaded music to itunes does not appear in library

I have downloaded several cds to itunes and they show they are downloading but after that they do not appear in the itunes libraries. If I do a search it shows they exist on the computer hard disk but they cannot be accessed nor apparently moved to an itunes library where they then can upload to an ipod. Even erasing them does not then allow them to be reloaded to itunes libraries.
    Thanks for your advise

I had a similar issue.  I realised that the music wasn't on the computer but on the cloud... do you have an iTunes Match account, if so try downloading 1 track to the computer by clicking on the cloud icon in iTunes, then go back into iMovie and see if that track is available.  Hopefully it will be like mine.

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

  • What is the most effective way to consolidate my iTunes library (there appears to be 2-3 separate origins)?

    Hello all!,
I've come across a problem regarding the source of my Music files on my MacBook Pro, finding that my fairly large (76 GB) iTunes library is made up of files from a large range of locations.  I've had this Macbook for ~3 years now & have never necessarily worried about the amount of audio on the harddrive.  As I noted, I have 76GB of music on iTunes, but the "Audio" section of my harddrive is 215GB. Based on looking at the iTunes/iTunes Media section of my files I've come to the conclusion that my process of finding and adding music to my library has resulted in a large amount of duplicates and/or multiple locations.
I began by going through and deleting unwanted songs from my library, to see the effect it would have on the overall "Audio" on my harddrive. This didn't do much, leaving me with a ~54GB iTunes library, but a recorded 191.4GB of audio on my harddrive. It appears that the "Music" sub-folder of "iTunes Media" is a duplicated, older version of my iTunes library but I'm weary about deleting it in fear that the songs sources will end up "broken" and they won't play or sync.
I've browsed other questions and found scripts for similar situations but I'm not sure exactly how to go about using them, or if they're necessary/correct for this situation. What is the suggested manner for organization of music in iTunes? The suspected duplicates folder is located under "Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Media -> Music" and this seems like far too many folders for a library of relative simplicity.
The last question I have is if the albums I download are staying in my "Downloads" folder when adding them to iTunes, creating yet more duplicates (rather than simply being transfered to the iTunes folders)? I'd appreciate any help, hopefully I was clear about the problems I'm facing. The system I've been using works, but I want to get all of my audio files cleaned up properly.
    Thanks!

"Audio" is more than just your iTunes files. Audio files for other apps (like Garageband, Office or Roxio Toast) can add to the overall size of "Audio".
The iTunes Media folder should be within a few gigs at most, of the size of what your Library shows. It won't be exact because iTunes uses binary calculation to determine size and Finder uses Decimal. (1024mb vs 1000mb for a gigabyte)
My iTunes library is 168Gb in iTunes - the files are 191Gb in FInder.
Your iTunes files should be in [user]Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/ by default, but you can choose ANY ONE location, on an internal or external hard drive, as long as iTunes is properly pointed to it as your Library. The Library files (.itl, .xml, .itdb, and artwork) should still remain in the default location.

  • Album listed as purchased in iTunes store, not appearing anywhere else.

About a year ago I purchased the album "Is This It" by The Strokes. I just recently purchased a new iPod Touch 64GB, and when downloading music to it, I realized that the ablum was not showing up in my library anywhere. It also doesn't apper in my library on iTunes on my desktop PC. However, when I check the iTunes store, it is listed as purchased. It doesn't even appear in the Purchased section of the iTunes store. I've noticed this with other albums as well, and single songs just not appearing anywhere in my libraries. What can I do?

Where exactly are you looking for it ? It won't show in your iTunes library unless you download it.
You should be able to download it into your library by ticking the 'show iTunes in the Cloud purchases' tick box on the Store tab in iTunes > Preferences - it should then show in the Music part of your library with a cloud icon against it for downloading (downloading the booklet for it this way may not work, you may get a 'corrupt file' message when trying to open it, I was over the first couple of days when trying it).
Or go to the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage and you should be able to download it from there.
A third option is to sign out of your account (Store > Sign Out menu option), find the album in the store and then click on its free 'price' button - you should then be prompted to sign back in and the album should download.

  • Try to open itunes it says "itunes does not appear to be a valid music file

i've uninstalled itunes before and reinstalled it off of the internet and i try to open it and it says "the file "itunes library.itl" does not appear to be a valid music library file. itunes has attempted to recover your music library and renamed this file to itunes library (damaged)

Back up your music and then uninstall it; while the uninstallation process doesn't affect the library, other things can.

  • ITunes library not valid?

Ok, I think this is/was my problem all along(I posted a topic before asking for help).Once a week when I open my iTunes I get a message saying *iPod games does not appear to be a valid file, iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library(Damaged) 2". Now, my iTunes still opens BUT all my playlists/playcounts/songs are gone(I still have the files in my folders, though). I really hate this and would like to get rid of it because re-adding everything and losing all my playcounts and waiting for the songs/vids to actually download back into iTunes AND then having to re-make all my custom playlists is really annoying. Can anyone help me? Fine a solution to this without having to re-add everything every **** week?

I use McAfee also.. so I don't think that would cause it unless maybe it's trying to scan the file at the same time iTunes is looking for it. You mentioned that it happens every week... is it the same day every week? Same time of day.. or random? If it does seem to happen at the same time each week, you might need to change the time your Anti-virus is set to scan... just a thought.
In the meantime, I would do as Katrina suggested and keep a backup of your ITL file. You'd need to make a new copy each time you change something in iTunes though...
When did this start... was it after an iTunes update? Or were there any other changes made to your computer at that time? XP is picky in that ANY little change can affect seemingly unrelated programs.

  • Library not appearing

I recently updated my Mac. iTunes was running very slowly and I keep my 40gb + music library on my external hard drive. When I restarted my computer I opened iTunes and my library did not appear. It took me to the basic Music page that first time users of iTunes see when they first open the program. When I go to the iTunes store it still shows my regular id. Not even my saved playlists are appearing. I would just add my library back to iTunes but that can take several hours because of the size. Any recommendations?
