ITunes library not importing video files.

Hi All,
I'm having trouble getting video files into my iTunes library on my Windows Home Server.
I have the latest version of iTunes running (10.5) on Windows Home Server - all working fine with music. However when I either drag, add through "Add File to Library" or putting the file in the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder.
The file either just doesn't add at all, or in the case of the "Automatically add to itunes" folder moves into the "Not added" folder.
I know that the video files I'm adding are okay because:
- They play in QuickTime fine
  - A fresh install of itunes on another computer adds them fine and they appear in the Movies Library no problem.
I've tried fully uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes with the same result. If I create a totally new library - also results in the same problem.
Any ideas? Seems something about iTunes on my server (windows home server) is resulting in it having issues with video files - once again music is no problem at all.
Many Thanks in advance.
Stew

I wish i knew. It seems to be very random in which videos it doesn't add. Is it too much to ask to watch SNL clips on my iPod?

  • ITunes will not import mp4-files.

For some reason iTune will not import mp4-files into iTunes. The files only contain audio, no video. I know that mp4 is a format that combines the two.
The files were generated in an earlier version of iTunes, like in 2006 or something. They were imported from CD's. I can locate them just fine on my computer and they play without problem in Windows Media Player.
The problem is that when I try to import them the way that iTunes want me to import files its like they don't exist. ITunes locates the folders and sub-folders, but its like there's no content in the folders...
I've tried changing my import settings but nothing seems to help...
Have any of you encountered a similar problem, could you fix it and how?
I've contacted Apple-support but they were unable (incompetent) to assist me...
To me it seems like the only option left is to convert all the files, like 2 GB, from mp4 to mp3.
Thankful for any help I could get solving this ***** of an issue...

iTunes can handle just about any file format that works with QuickTime and will play any file purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store. If you've got video files that end with a .mov, .m4v, or .mp4 file extension, you can import them to iTunes with ease. However, the video especially the MP4 video must meet the following specifications: it must be encoded as 540 kbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with an approximately 128 kbit/s AAC audio track or encoded as 1.5 Mbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with a minimum 128 kbit/s AAC audio track. If not, you will fail to import MP4 to iTunes.
Even if your MP4 files meet the above specifications and are added to iTunes successfully, it may still fail to sync to iOS devices. For iPhones, iPads, and video-capable iPods play videos in more specific video formats and codecs.

  • ITunes(Mac) will not import video files

I just bought a new ipod and I was anxious to add some videos I created in iMovie. Unfortunately iTunes will not "import" or "Add to Library" nor can I drag and drop the videos to iTunes. I've tried iPod mp4, QT.dv and QT.mov formats. There is no error message, when dragging and dropping there is a green "+" circle like it is going to work but nothing is added to the movie library. My audio seems to be working properly but movies simply will not import. I have the latest iTunes (7.0.2) Can anyone help? If it makes a difference I am using my iMac G4, not the dual G5 listed on my profile.

The open-source, freeware HandBrake program processes your video or DVD, enabling you to bypass iTunes for this function. After processing, just drag and drop the video file to your computer-connected iPod.

  • ITunes does not import certain files

    Hi everyone,
I had to reinstall my WinXP system and therefore also reinstalled iTunes (v9.0.3.15). Now, when I imported my whole MP3 directory, iTunes did not import some albums without displaying any error message. When I realized that some albums are missing, I tried to import them using drag&drop from the Windows Explorer, using the "File-Import file", "File-Import directory" (or whatever these menu items are called in english...), but nothing works! iTunes simply does... NOTHING. No error, no file imported, no action at all.
The files are fairly typical MP3 files: 192 kbps, 44kHz, ID3v1, ID3v2 both present, no DRM... And the most weird fact is: on my old WinXP system (same machine, but slightly older iTunes version) iTunes did import the files without problems!
I have no clue why iTunes won't import them. Does anybody else have an idea?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    gehho.

    Hi ed2345,
thanks a lot for proposing the MP3 Validator! This fixed my problem. For others having a similar problem: I used this software: http://www.gromkov.com/faq/repair/mp3_validator.html
However, I must say that I am really annoyed about iTunes and Apple. I mean, what kind of design is it when you say: "We do not accept slightly invalid files, although every other player accepts them. And most important: We do not display an error message to the user, so that he/she has to find the problem him/herself! Ha!" This is really extremely bad user experience, and I always thought Apple was known for their innovative path, especially regarding user experience. Pfff...
There are sooo many other things that annoy me; I think I will not buy any Apply product anymore. In my eyes, they have even overtaken Microsoft in being the most user-unfriendly company on the market:
    1) You HAVE to use iTunes to copy files on your iPod instead of just using the iPod as a USB drive. What is this for??? It's just to promote their stupid iTunes which again introduces new problems.
    2) iTunes obviously does not accept ID3v1 tags. It just displays all my MP3s which only have v1 tags as "Unknown". Come on, every other MP3 software supports ID3v1, why does not iTunes???
    3) The import process in iTunes is such a hassle. Instead of being able to observe a directory for new files, you have to add every single new album manually. Of course, only after you validated it... Moreover, you cannot add multiple directories at once using the menu options - you have to do it with drag&drop; and it took me some time to try that.
    4) EDIT: Another point just came to my mind: When importing a whole directory, iTunes is stupid enough to add all files once again, instead of just adding the new files. Therefore, you really have to know which album is missing in iTunes because otherwise you will have lots of files twice or three times or hundred times.
OK, that's enough for now. I am just really pi**ed off because I was playing around with those "invalid" files for about 5 hours. Might also be that it's me who's the stupid one - if so, please tell me. But from a company like Apple, I expect a software which is easily handled even by absolute newbies, and I would not call me a newbie...
Anyway, have a nice day everyone, and happy validating!
Thanks again to ed2345! The comments above were not meant for you! It just came out of my fingers... Btw: As you asked my to pick my interpretation... I would pick "INCOMPETENT" - completely!

  • Itunes will not Import Video???

Ok my itunes doesnt like me or something. Yesterday it let me import a .avi video file and convert it so my ipod can play it. So that one worked fine. Tried to do a few different ones today, no go. I try to import the file to my itunes library, it does nothing, acts like i did nothing, looking at me like what do you want? I tried downloading a .avi converter to m4p files still the same thing, it lets me drag it to the library but does not load it anywhere. I tried dragging it directly to my ipod which works but now its just the audio and not the video. Anyone have any ideas? I have pretty much given up at this point so any tips or tricks anyone has got please let me know. I just bought this like 3 days ago.
    Thank you,

Have you tried VideoDrive? It's available at www.aroona.net and as of version 1.2 it allows you to directly import mp4 videos in iTunes. And it can also import AVI, DIVX, etc without reconversion.

  • ITunes will not import wav files

iTunes will not allow importation of Apple Lossless or WAV files.  It will allow AIFF files to import but won't play them.
    Any ideas will be helpful.
    Thank you: Patrick

Are you positive they didn't import, or is it just that there aren't where you expect to find them? The thing about wav files is they don't accept tags, so if you import them they will just get added under the filename.
I would just copy across the whole media folder with libraries and all, then start iTunes with the option key held down and point it at the media folder. This will just use the library in its new location and you don't have to import, etc.

  • ITunes will not import .WAV files encoded by iTunes...

I just recently switched from a macbook pro running leopard to an imac with snow leopard. I needed to move my itunes to the new computer, but none of my wav files imported. On my macbook, I put the CD in and imported into iTunes directly using its own WAV encoder. All my mp3s imported fine. All the wav files play in quicktime and in preview.
I know that itunes does not recognize some wav types, but I used itunes' own encoder, so it doesn't make sense that itunes wouldn't recognize them now...I don't want to have to reimport or re-encode these with another program =(
    Thanks!

  • ITunes does not import WMA files

I have iTunes 9 for Mac and it is not importing the sound files I have in WMA. Is there any setting I should activate so the conversion is automatically?
I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

iTunes for Mac will not add and automatically convert WMA files, that function is only available with iTunes for Windows. On the Mac you need to convert the files prior to importing them, you could have a look at something like EasyWMA or Switch audio converter. These will let you convert the files to an iTunes compatible format:

  • After upgrading recently I got this message: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." The music/video files are still on my MacBook Pro.  Is it because I'm still on 10.5.8?  How do I fix this?

For your reference I’m using a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8.  Several weeks ago on a Monday I received an upgrade for iTunes. When Tuesday arrived I attempted to log in so that I could download the latest freebie song(s).  I was met w/this message: “The file ‘iTunes Library.itl’ cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.”
The music/video files are still on my Mac (I’ve verified that via Searchlight), but I’m unable to open the program.  Since I know that 10.5.8 is rapidly becoming prehistoric, could it be that the newest iTunes isn’t compatible w/this particular OS?  I’d like to switch up, but understand that the newest OS won’t work on a Mac of this vintage (6 years old).  In addition, my Adobe products (all CS2) won’t work w/anything newer than 10.5.8, so I’m reluctant to go to a newer OS (I just can’t afford the Adobe upgrade $$$ @ this point).
Is there any way to get a download of an “old” iTunes version?  If there were, I’d simply refuse any future upgrades until my personal economy allows me to stop working as if it were 2006.  Please advise, somebody!

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

  • Iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library?

iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library? Pls help.

This is what that error means:
    -54
    permErr
Software lock on file; Not a subscriber [permissions error on file open]
Download and launch  BatChmod.  Put the videos into a subfolder and drag that folder containing the video files into the Batchmod window.  Make sure you are the owner and have R,W, X access as well as the group.  Everyone will have R only.
Check the Change ownership and privileges, Unlock and Apply to enclosed boxes and then click on the Apply button.  When done try importing the files again.

  • Iphoto does not recognize video files when the iphoto library is on an external drive

I have copied my iphoto library to an external hard drive. I pointed iPhoto to the new location. I can import photos with no problem, but when I try to import video files (from my iPhone or from another drive) I get a message that the file is not recognized. When I moved the iphoto library back to the MAC hard drive, the import works OK both for photos and videos.
I am using iphoto 11 and all the videos were taken with my iphone.
    Any ideas?

Video could be imported from an iPhone before the library was copied to an external drive.
The video that was imported before the library was moved could be read before and after the library was moved to an external drive.
Video from the same iPhone cannot be imported into the library once the library had moved ton an external drive.
The problem is that video can no longer be imported into the library that was moved to an external drive. Photos from the same iPhone can be imported and read.

  • What is causing this?  The file "iTunes Library.itl" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged) 4".  This happens everytime I start iTunes lateley.  Help!!!

Before to attach your ipod.... try to find the file where you put your music.... click on that song.... itunes will ask you if you want to locate it.... from there you have to find the song(s) that is one of the folders in your PC.
