ITunes Library on AirDisk Keeps Changing

Ok, this didn't happen prior to iTunes 10, but now if iTunes launches before my AirDisk's connect (which happens after restarts in Lion), iTunes decides that my library is going to be moved to my home folder, which means I have to manually go in and point it again to my AirDisk.
My question is simply, is there a way to stop iTunes from automatically changing where my library is going to be stored?

Same problem here!  Very annoying.

Download it to your computer and make sure you know where the file is.
Right-click the file, choose Properties and look at the General tab. Make sure the "Type of file" is "MPEG Layer 3 audio file" and that the "Size" is at least several MB.
    Are we good so far?
If so, find your Automatically Add to iTunes folder (which is inside the iTunes Media folder) and drag your MP3 into it.

    Hello Turintest2,
I am having a similar problem.  I have over 4000 songs giving me this error.  I certainily don't want to go in one by one and find them.  I know you wrote a script for Windows but I am a Mac user.  Is there a fix for me?  Here is the info on where the song is currently (used by doing the get info)
Here's a shot of my preferences:
Just FYI, I know that apparently iTunes is looking for this music in the trash.  However, if I go here:
Then I find the music there as well.  (Which is where it is in my preferences.)
Please help!  I don't want to have to go through over 4000 songs and update them one by one.

  • Can two computers share same ITunes library over Airdisk?

    Hi all,
I have a Macbook and a PowerPC G5 and a Drobo (external hard drive) hooked up to my AEBS with only ITunes music stored on it.
I want to be able to edit and browse my ITunes library from both my G5 (which I can already do) and my MacBook (which I can't). When I try to change my ITunes library location from within my MacBook, nothing shows up. It's a blank library, even though I can edit and browse the Drobo (as an Airdisk) through the finder. How can I edit and browse my ITunes library from my Macbook if my G5 is also using the same library? Two more quick points...
    1) I have tried the "sharing" feature and don't want to use it. It doesn't allow editing of my library and won't show cover art.
    2) The above situation happens whether my G5 ITunes is open or closed.
    Thanks everybody for your help.

I periodically copy my iTunes library from my Mac Pro to the Mac Mini.
They aren't using a single library. Each computer is using its own copy and you have two sets of library files.  It can certainly be done that way but if between copy sessions you edit a bit of each library then it is a bit of a muddle trying to make sure your versions are synchronized with each other.  For example, ratings are stored only in the .itl file, so if you rate a song on your second computer it will get lost the next time you copy over from your first.

  • I got a new PC. I was able to back up the old one and dowloaded my iTunes library. I keep getting a message that says: This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on this iPod."  It asks me to authorize, which I have done 20 ti

My old PC died and I got a new one.  I was able to back up the old PC and downloaded my iTunes library on the new PC.  I keep getting  a message saying: "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on this iPod.  Would you like to authorize this computer for the items purchased from the iTunes store?"   I have authorized the new PC, but it continues to ask me over and over, and if I authorize it again, it tells me I already authorized.  So frustrating!  I deactivated the old PC and activated the new one.
Also, I purchased a song from iTunes store and while it shows in my library on the PC, it won't download to the iPod.  Why won't the new song download to the iPod?
    Any ideas. suggestions?

  • ITunes library on airdisk

I made an alternate iTunes library on my external hard drive connected to AEBS. It takes forever to load, (which I assume is caused by the usb connection) and it is extremely unreliable. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from disconnecting while I am using it? And/or make it faster?

    Simon,
What I have done is made an automator application that I have automatically start at login/startup time.
    Open Automator
Select the *Files and Folders* library on the left
Select *Get Specified Servers* to the right
Select the Add button in the action and add the location of the Airdisk you want to mount
Next, select the *Connect to Servers* action
    Save as an Application
Go to Preferences->Accounts->Login Items-> and add that automator application.
Next time you login it will automatically mount for you.

  • HT1660 can i retrieve my itunes library? I have changed computers and cannot find my downloads

I bought lots of records from itunes back in 2009 but now cannot retrieve them from the itunes library. Are they now lost and forgotten or can I find them somehow?

Did the backup of the old computer die as well?
Many times when user's state "my computer has died" this is simply not true... the drive may still be very usable and therefore able to access the data on the drive.

  • Moved itunes library, but it keeps recreating new one.

    Hi there,
Just got my new iphone and i'm new to all this itunes stuff
I want to permanently move my itunes media folder.
Already read and followed this to the letter, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364 and changed the location from
    C:\Users\Rxxx\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
    to
    D:\iTunes Media
It seemd to have worked but everytime i download a new app or music file from itunes it recreates the media folder in the original location and stores it there, not into the new folder I made.
It is very important for me that this doesn't happen, i want all downloaded apps etc etc to go to the new folder, not the default old one because my C drive is an SSD and i don't want this annoying itunes pointlessly writing to it.
    Any ideas welcomed

    Sorted it,
I needed to move the whole libary database not just that folder.
I copied over the whole itunes folder to location I wanted,
then started itunes whilst holding shift, then choose new location for database.
Viola, itunes will leave my SSD alone now I hope

  • Can i erase my itunes library, and still keep all of the songs on my ipod?

i have a 30 gb, 5th gen. ipod. i have over 6,000 songs on it, and it is slowing my computer down pretty bad. so my question is if i erase the songs to allow my computer to run faster, will the songs on my ipod be erased? if so, is there any way to move them somewhere else so it doesnt slow my comp down anymore? any advice would help

i suggest that you only charge your ipod using a power charger, then it won't ever matter what songs are in your library.
however, you wouldn't be able to add any songs to your ipod in the future...because if you sync your library with your ipod, any songs that you deleted would be removed from your ipod.

  • We are a family of 6 - 2 parents and 4 children.. We have an iMac, 3 macbooks, a Macbook Pro and an iPad. We all want to be able to share the itunes library, but it keeps telling us that it can't authorize more than 5 computers.  What can we do???

How can we home share with more than 5 computers?? We are a family of 6 and each has his/her own computer.

You can't. But iDevices don't count. So you should be able to share the 5 computers.

  • Itunes library changing information

My iTunes library does not keep information once it's been altered.  This plays havoc with playlists and trying to sort music chronologically.  Very frustrating...is there a solution?
For example the album 'The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963' was plainly produced from tapes from 1963, but released in 2013; however when I change the year on all the tracks to 1963...imaging my surprise, the next time I access iTunes, they have all defaulted to 2013...and will now be incorporated into my more modern playlists based on year!!!
    Irritating!!!
    Frustratingly,
    Chris

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again.  Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match).  If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

  • Hey everyone! i have a external hardrive i keep my itunes library of songs on and it wont sync with my ipod touch inless i copy and paste it into my ipod device when thats conected. i dont want all the songs on there only checked ones. help plz!!

im having trouble with syncing my ipod touch with my itunes library that i keep on a external hardrive. when i plug up my external hardrive that has all my songs on it, it doesn't sync to my ipod correctly. i have to copy and paste the songs to my ipod device when its connected. i dont want all the songs on there and i want to be able to manually control whats on my ipod. and id like to take some songs off of the ipod also but i want them still in my itunes library though. i usually check the songs i want on the ipod but it isnt working that way maybe because its a external hardrive?? i never had a problem with past ipods with my library on itunes but i ran out of space on my computer and had to transfer all of the songs to my external hardrive. please someone help me!! i thought it would be simple! but it isnt the case! i plug up my hardrive then my ipod, i press sync and nothing gets transfered unless i copy and paste them to the ipod. even though it says ipod syncing in progress! this is really confusing! please help me!! sorry if this is jumbled up and confusing..

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • ITunes Library.itl keeps disappearing when iTunes starts

I just updated to iTunes 10.8.0.40.  Now my iTunes Library.itl file keeps disappearing.
When iTunes starts, I get a message that says, "The iTunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created.  The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder inthe "Music" folder."
I copy a backup from the "Previous iTunes Library" folder and then iTunes will start.  However, the file disappears again as iTunes is starting.  Right after it disappears, iTunes displays a message that says, "Checking iTunes Library..." followed by "Updating iTunes Library..."  Then I get a message that says, "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved.  A folder was specified instead of a file."
The process repeats endlessly.  How do I stop iTunes from deleting the iTunes Library.itl file as it starts?

I fixed this by removing iTunes and installing MediaMonkey.  Most of the music I have in iTunes has been ripped from my CDs and MediaMonkey found all of those MP3's within a couple minutes.  The last time I had to rebuild my iTunes database, it took two days because I couldn't figure out how to stop it from analyzing the volume.  The few albums that I bought through iTunes, I will burn to a CD and re-rip.  Despite the name, MediaMonkey seems to be a much better program for managing music and runs significantly faster on my little HP mini.
This is the fourth and last time I'm dealing with the problem of iTunes deleting my database.  Good riddance iTunes.
