Itunes library on MAC and then on PC

I just got a Dell laptop and have my old computer (an EMAC) in the closet. I first purchased/subscribed to ITUNES/IPOD when on my mac and now that I'm on my PC, I of course have to erase/restore my ipod to my PC (losing all my music that I purchased through ITUNES on my mac in the interim).
Here is my question: Is there ANY WAY that I can access the music I purchased on ITUNES on my EMAC through my PC? Isn't there some sort of database allowing you to access your ITUNES PURCHASED MUSIC/LIBRARY on whichever computer you use (wheter it's pc or mac) just by putting in your account name and password????
Otherwise, I guess I would have to get my EMAC out of the closet and send all the music through email to myself...and then download it on my PC. Obviously, I am not too computer savy...so if there's a shorter way to get the music I bought while on my EMAC onto my PC, please let me know.

You can merge the two libraries but not the accounts. Each account is a separte entity.
You are likely best to use the older account as that is where a bulk of the purchases are from. If the file is a unprotected purchase then it doesn't matter. If the content is DRM encoded then you will need to authorize your computer to both accounts as needed. All new music purchases are DRM free but video is still DRM encoded.
There is no reason to create a new iTunes or Mac App Store account if you get a new computer.

I have a similar setup. You need to move your itunes library to your network storage device. You need to do this within itunes (you will have to google moving your itunes library because I don't remember all the steps). After you moved the itunes library to a network share, you need to go into advanced preferences on each computer that will access the library and set the location of the itune library to point to the network share folder where the file itunes library.itl is located - the exit from Itunes. Restart Itunes on each computer (pressing shift on the Windows computers and option on the Macs). You will then have to choose the Itunes library. Browse to the network share and click on the itunes library.itl folder.
Three notes. Only one computer at a time can access the library. Second, each time you switch back and forth between mac and pc, the library folder needs to be updated. Third, for some reason, with iTunes 9.0.2, the updating process has slowed down. It is especially slow taking 15 minutes or so for a 13GB library. Hope apple fixes this.

Share one iTunes library on MAC and Windows

I want to be able to share one iTunes library that will be on a server between a MAC and a WIndows machine. I know you have to rename one of the library files but not sure about how to go about it. It will be a brand new library. Not moving anything. Anyone have any ideas or know how to go about doing this?

Is it possible to share iTunes Library between Mac and PC?

My wife has a HUGE collection of audio and videos, mainly recordings of workshops she's involved with. Total size is many hundreds of MB, too much for her laptop.
If we create a new library on a large external HD (formatted for PC), should she be able to access the same library with either her Mac or her office PC? Or are they different file structures?

Normally, if the songs showed that it is purchased then it is probably already in your library. If not check out the article below to walk you through downloading your past purchases. You may also want to check to see if you have Automatic Downloads turned on so that way next time you can get your tracks without having to plug in and sync.

Is the iPod still singed into the account isn Settings>iTunes and App Stores and SettingsZ>iCloudl? If it is then I would not be concerned.

I have a similar problem. I recieved an IPAD for my birthday, and my daughter updated my itunes library so i can use it with the ipad...and somehow all my songs (unpurchased from itunes, and downloaded from a large collection of CDs) ...and play lists were deleted. I still have them on my old ipod, and wonder how to get them back onto my computer so I can redistribute some of them to the ipad. Thanks so much but none of that helped. It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive. I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!

Tried to use iTunes library from Windows and Mac - lost everything

My iTunes Library is on a NAS (Dlink DNS-323) and until last night, I was only using it with my two macs (both running 10.5.6).
Last night, I wanted to use it from my Vista laptop so I looked up online and realized I can easily do it by renaming the "iTunes Library" file to iTunes Library.itl and double clicking from iTunes on Windows.
It seemed to work because when iTunes opened, I could see my playlists and I saw the message "updating library". I was afraid about the update to the library, so I just exit iTunes at the time thinking it would all be ok.
Guess not. This morning when I opened iTunes from my iMac, it opened with and empty library. I tried to do Library/Import Playlist and it did nothing but add the "standard" playlists to my library. I tried it a few times, with different settings (trying to re-rename the .itl back to just iTunes Library for example) and nothing worked.
Do I have any hope to recreate the library? From now on I will be backing up the NAS also, but meanwhile any ideas?

Your library file was being converted from Mac-based paths to Windows-based paths; apparently iTunes isn't courteous enough to work on a temp file while doing that conversion. You're not going to get it back. (And now you've learned the hard lesson of making backups of your important stuff
If the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file is still in one piece, you can use File menu -> Library -> Import playlist and point the file dialog to the xml file. Just about all the previous iTunes-only metadata will be imported (IIRC, about all you lose is some "Skip" info, and of course, Date Added will reflect the new date of import).

You should be able to simply visit: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ to download iTunes, and run the installer to overwrite your previous version...

Yes, you can theoretically restore your iPhone with any computer running the most current version of iTunes (10.6.3) unless there is some other issue.

Do you run any anti-virus or third-party firewalls on your computer? Try disabling them and trying the restore process again. It may be possible that one of these security applications is interfering with the iPhone's ability to authenticate with Apple's servers.

What is your iTunes version?
If iTunes 11, have you checked the "Up Next" list? If it is not empty, try if clearing "UP Next" will help:
