ITunes Library Only Play One Song at a Time After Upgrade to 7.2

Just upgraded to ITunes 7.2 this morning. After upgrade (on Windows Vista Enterprise operating system) ITunes Library no longer will play through the songs in the library. Try as I might to reset Controls, clicking on play gives me play of the single highlighted song but will not play on to the next song on the list, which it always did before. This is a BIG problem. Would appreciate any advice (knowing I've probably overlooked something simple) to solve this. Thanks!

that can happen if all the checkboxes to the left of the songs in your main library display have become unchecked.
if they are unchecked, hold down Ctrl and click one of the boxes to do a "recheck all".

This is MOST annoying!! When I play music from either library or playlists on my computer only one song plays and then it is done.It doesn't crash or anything, it just stops. I can click the repeat button till the cows come home and only one song plays--and doesn't repeat even if repeat song is checked. This is not a case of a playlist with "song preview" only playing the first song--this is any song, anywhere. Anyone else have this porblem? Just to the left of every song is a little box. When you click it, a check mark appears in it and the box turns blue. iTunes will only "automatically" play checked songs. Unchecked songs get skipped.
So if all your songs are unchecked, iTunes will do exactly what you're describing it as doing. It'll play anything you tell it to, then stop, because it doesn't play unchecked songs unless you specifically tell it to play them.
Go to the Library, hit CTRL-A to select all your songs, then right click one of them and select "Check Selected Songs" or something to that effect. This will check all those songs and your problem is solved.

First, make sure these items have checkmarks next to their names in iTunes. Continuous playback only works on checked items. Itunes will play all checked items in a list whether or not they're from the same album.
If you see that nothing in your library is checked and you want to check everything, hold down Ctrl while checking an item. This checks everything.
Next, fixing the "1 of 1" problem is easily. Select all the tracks that make up the book/album. Let's say there are 15. Press Ctrl-I. Doublecheck that the album box is filled in with the name of the book, and if not, type it there. Enter "15" in the box for the total number of tracks. Click OK. Now all the items should be "1 of 15," "2 of 15," and so on.

I know there is probably a simple solution but I can't find it. iTunes will only play one song and then it's done. It won't continuously play from my libray. I have over 5000. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I just can't find the solution. I even click on the next button and it stops.

At a guess you've somehow managed to uncheck the entire library. Select the Songs view, the CTRL+click an empty checkbox. All boxes should become checked. If you don't see the checkboxes use Edit > Preferences to enable them.

Help! itunes will only play one song at a time

My itunes is acting screwy. I open a playlist and play the first song, and itunes only plays that song. it won't keep going forward. it doesn't freeze up; i just have to manually play the next song. this just started yesterday with no adjustments, new downloads...no nothing. does anyone know what is going on? i have already uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, but to no avail. same problem. is this a setting somewhere that i don't know about?

Are the boxes beside each song checked? iTunes will only play the songs that are checked. To check all the songs press control + click in any box. To check only some songs, you can highlight them and then right click and choose check selection.

Itunes will only play one song at a time, not continuously through library

I recently had to reload all of my song files onto an external hard drive...and now only one song will play at a time from my itunes library,instead of it continuously playing through the entire library. why is this happening? Its driving me nuts.

Can anyone help me? I've just swapped all my iTunes data to a new laptop and everything seems to be running fine, only when I click on a song in my library, it only plays that one then stops. How do I make it play the lot?

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if they're all unchecked, iTunes will play one and then stop. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - control-click on any checkbox will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.

ITunes only plays one song at a time

After much toing and froing on my new computer, I now have all my songs re-imported into the library. However, iTunes will now only play one song at a time: after it plays one song it just halts; the forward arrow is just greyed out. Any ideas would be most welcome!

Try checking all of those little boxes. To check all at once, hold ctrl while checking one.

I'm trying to listen to albums in my library but iTunes will only play one song at a time, very annoying to have to down arrow and click play after every song. How can I make iTunes play through my library without stopping?
I'm using iTunes 10.1 (54) and YES all the songs are checked.

I disabled the Ping drop-down from the Terminal with:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown -bool TRUE
and viola! Now my library plays without stopping after just one song. Not sure why this fixed my problem but it did? I guess it's just another reason to get rid of Ping!

all of a sudden my itunes will only play one song and then stop and when i press the "next" button, it just stops the song playing. and now there are check boxes in front of each song and i dont know what it means? i just want to be able to put my library on shuffle and play through them!!

The check boxes have been there for as long as I can remember. You can see them in screenshots back as far as iTunes 1: iTunes Screenshots

Unchecked songs will be skipped when playing songs from the library or a selection. They will only play when individually clicked on.
Smart Playlists have an option that unchecked songs won't appear.
Unchecked songs will not be burned to CD.
The iPod has an option to only sync checked songs
The Genius & iTunes DJ features will ignore unchecked songs
Basically unchecking is a way of telling iTunes to ignore the item and exclude it from other automatic features.

ITunes only playing one song at a time

Since the 7.6 upgrade in January, my iTunes is only playing one song before stopping. Do I need to reinstall? Will wiping out the instance of iTunes on my PC blow away my music or video libraries?

just curious, I have a large library (over 6K songs) and I used to have them all 'checked' so I could play until my hearts content...now, all the checkmarks are gone. I really don't want to click all 6K song titles and when I 'select all' it doesn't add a checkmark. I searched the knowledge base, but a solution to this simple request seems to be evading me.
Can you provide me any suggestions to get ALL my songs with a checkmark?

You don't mean you want it to play multiple tracks at the same time, do you? Like where you would hit play and ALL the songs would start playing at the same time?
Or do you mean iTunes will only play one song then stop rather than going on to the next one?
