ITunes Library Search Features (or lack thereof)

Does anyone know if Apple plans to add an advanced search feature to iTunes for searching the music library? It would be very helpful if I could tell iTunes to limit the search (based on keywords) to songs only, artists only, album title only, etc. If anyone knows of a way to limit searches in this manner please let me know.

And if you select the little triangle next to the magnifying glass on the search field you can limit the search to just an Artist, Album, etc.

Itunes library search returns a blank but when I locate the same song on youtube and click Buy song on itunes, I am able to access it.

I now know what is causing the problem, at least for the singer in question, but I don't know how to overcome it. I now know that the problem started when I downloaded an MP3 album from Amazon. This album contains 25 songs sung by 25 singers, INCLUDING Annette Hanshaw,THE SINGER I'M INTERESTED IN AT THE MOMENT. So, when I do an iTunes' search for Annette Hanshaw, I get her, but I also get all the other singers on this album. This puzzles me. I've downloaded many entire albums, but I've never run into the unwanted linkages before. In other words, I want to keep all of the songs in the album I just downloded, but I only want Annette Hanshaw when I put her name in the SEARCH bar. Is there a way to do this?
Are all the songs in all Amazon MP3 albums linked together in this way?

  • ITunes Library search won't find song actually in library

i have the problem with iTunes 7.5 it won't find some of the songs in my library when i search them. i can see them in the library, but when i type a word from artist or album it won's show anything.

also, why doesn't the album cover change per song i listen? it only shows the selected item, other words, the song which i last looked at.
    thanks.

sorry, found the answer in another topic. next to the search bar is magnifying glass and there you can select what to search. somehow mine ended up on songs only... thanks

  • ITunes library SEARCH doesn't work properly

Very recently, a  search for a particular artist starting yielding songs by that artist but also many other artists. Some might think I shouldn't be disturbed by this, but the search function was perfect until now. There were no unwanted selections. What is wrong? How can I get iTunes to function as perfectly as it has for many years?

Why cant I use Library Search in Itunes?

iTunes supports only mov mp4 and m4v video formats.  If you have added above format files to iTunes library and still not showing in the movies library, please repair your QuickTime.
Control Panel > Programs n Features > highlight QuickTime, click CHANGE then REPAIR.

  • I found 2 cool search features in iTunes

I dont know if these are well known or when they were implemented but I just found them this morning by accident. I am using 10.0
On my Macbook Pro I have to use the Fn button but I bet these work on a desktop without the need to use the Fn button.
    1. Fn + Ctl + F9 = brings up a search window to look for any song in your iTunes library
    2. Fn + Cmd + F9 = brings up a search window to search your playlists

After having to downlonad Adobe Flash Player 64bit because my Mozilla Firefox Browser prompted me to do so, I went to check my Programs And Features to make sure everything was in order.
I was confused when I was asked to download this software because I thought my personal laptop already had this, but I did so anyway, when checking programs and features, I did see I had two identical files.
Is it necessary to have them both? They are exactly the same, nothing shows that they go to anything differenty, yet it seems my Mozilla did not recognize the first.
Since I am not a technical wiz, I need some help. I am afraid to delete any of them. I am afraid to delete the first since my Mozilla seemd to not recognize it, but if I delete the second will my other browser not recogize the second. Or, am I complicating this!
    I appreciate your help.
How did 'prompt' come about? Were you viewing a (Flash) site and it suddenly appeared, or what? If it suddenly appeared without warning, could you please post the link to that site.
Are you running Waterfox or Palemoom? These are third party unofficial 64-bit builds of Firefox. The only other 64-bit versions available are the nightly builds. However, due to incompatibility issues with many approved Firefox Add-ons, these builds haven't been officially released yet.
If you're not running either of the first two, nor any other 64-bit versions of Firefox, which version do you currently have installed?

  • Most of my iTunes library has disappeard. I cannot find them when I search in the iTunes folder either. How can I get them back?

I had hundreds of songs in my iTunes library, but when I open it now, I have about 40. They were a combination of downloaded songs from the iTunes store and songs loaded from my personal CD collection. I have searched for advice online. I have searched my iTunes folder and my recycle bin, and my songs are no longer there. I did not download a new version or plug in a device. Nothing has changed. Where could my songs be?

  • How can I download a previously downloaded purchase to my iTunes library on my laptop when the listing for the song in my library won't play because it says it cannot locate the file. Yes I have searched my iTunes folders and also done a full windows sear

How can I download a previously downloaded purchase to my iTunes library on my laptop when the listing for the song in my library won't play because it says it cannot locate the file. Yes I have searched my iTunes folders and also done a full windows search. The track plays on my iPad and my iPhones but will not play on my laptop!?
It has an "!" To the left of the song title in my library
My worry is that if I sync my iPad/iPhone then I will lose the track on those also!

If you cannot find the file on your hard drive then once you delete the current broken entry you should be able to redownload from iTunes in the Cloud. This assumes the item in question qualifies. Note that audiobooks, digital booklets, iTunes LPs & Extras, ringtones, selected movies etc. don't.
If prompted don't hide the item. You may find that you need to close and then reopen iTunes before it will appear for download.

  • Is there a way to search for skipped songs in my iTunes library?

I'd like to know whether there's a quicker way to find songs that are being skipped in my iTunes library, than simply manually checking each one.  I've been rearranging and deleting music files in Windows Explorer recently, so I know that there is a chance that I have demolished the link iTunes had to some of the files, but there's no way I can remember what all the modified albums are.  I know how to reestablish the links when I do find a song that is being skipped, but I'd love to go through the whole library and be able to find them all at once.
The last time I did this, manually - and it seemed to take hours - I did find quite a lot of songs that were being skipped, and was able to reestablish the links or in some cases just delete the song from iTunes since i hadn't wanted it anyway.  But even then it was a little hard, since after manually checking in the quickest way I could - going through the song list and briefly playing each one for a second or fraction of a second - there was no way of sorting the songs by whether they were skipped or not.  I just had to be very careful as I scrolled, to catch each one that had the symbol indicating non-playability.
All that to say - is there some better, automatic way of searching for non-playable, skipped songs, and is there some way of sorting them out from the rest so one can address them, and not miss any?

Same question. Used to have an iPod. Lost it (best digital player ever), now I use other portable device. The mp3 files have their id3tag edited in the original file, but the .m4a don't!.
Want to know someway to write the info from the library to the original .m4a files.

  • How can i search certain music in the library of my device instead of the whole itunes library

i want to search albums that are on my phone but when i type the name of it in the searchbar in the new itunes and the album shows up it gives me the album for the whole itunes library and not my phone im sorry if this is confusing but this is the est way i can explain

Kirby has already summed it up nicely. If you really want to ensure, that the recipient will see the the image as an attachment and not as an embedded image, compress the file before you send it. Export the image version in the right size to your Desktop, then right-click (or ctrl-click) and use "fCompress ...." from the contextual menu. Drag the compressed file to the Mail icon in the Dock.
Just in case, you are sending your images to Windows users and have not come across this setting, you may want to check the Mail option in the "Edit" menu: "Always send Windows-friendly attachments".

I second the whole iTunes folder approach.
If for some reason you have split the media folder from the library files then the media folder needs to restored to the same path it used to have while the library files can be copied into the music folder of your new profile.
If in dobut, backup up the entire Documents and Settings folder before wiping the infected drive, but be selective about what you restore as many viruses drop active components capable of reinfecting the compuer in the temp folders and internet caches. It is much easier to backup more than you need than to discover after the fact that you no longer have access to some vital project you'd been storing in a folder on the desktop.

  • HT201413 Why does Data Execution Protection or lack thereof keep shutting down iTunes

Why does Data Execution Protection or lack thereof keep shutting down iTunes?

Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call?  You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

  • Can i search and replace in the itunes library database file?

    Hi --
I need to update the file location in the itunes database for a few thousand songs. These songs are just part of my full collection. A few hundred of these songs are referenced in playlists. Rebuilding the libarary, consolidating the library, adding the new folder to library -- none of these suggested solutions to similar problems will work for me. (My collection is too large for one drive and is spread over several drives, and I have many playlists with hundreds of songs, and the playlists would be ruined with any of these approaches.)
I thought I had an easy solution by doing a search and replace in "itunes library.xml," replacing the old file path with the new one. But then I learned (as you probably already know) that the real information is stored in "itunes library," and the xml file is just a downstream copy of that information. All my edits were overwritten as soon as I opened itunes.
The solution to my problem is completely straight-forward if I can just do a search and replace in "itunes libray." Is it possible to edit that file directly? The only database program I have is MS Access, on windows, and it couldn't open the file.
    Thanks very much
