Itunes Library sharing with multiple ipods and 2 pc's

Hi, I have a new Ipod nano and want to use my wifes itunes library with my ipod. Which according to the tech stuff I can share the content by enabling on wifes pc. Done that, which I can now see library on my Acer laptop. However, I can't sync my playlist from her pc to my itunes. I want to download my own podcasts etc.. not clutter her itunes pc. When I transfer the ipod back to my pc it then wants to delete and re-sync.
We have 3 ipods in the house and 2 pc's.
Whats the best way of using the ipods and getting the most out of itunes?
Thanks

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
There are several different ways to use two iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

  • Family with multiple iPods and multiple iTunes - can we share songs?

I am sure I am not the only one in this situation. There are 4 computers in our house, and 3 individuals with there own iPods. Can one iPod owner who has her own library on her PC go to my son's PC and connect to his iTunes Library to get just one song that he purchased? She tried to "drag" a song from his library onto her iPod, but it wouldn't allow her to. She got some message saying her iPod already has it's own library. Are you saying she can't get one song that I paid for? How are we able to share songs on multiple PCs?

  • I would like to use one library but with multiple ipods, but because they are my kids Ipods, and they each have their own gift cards, I'd like to be able to add money to their "profiles" without them having their own account - what is the best way

So here is my delima - I want one Ipod account - because I only want one library - since we all like the same music - but my kids, who have their own IPODS, have gift cards, who want to be able to keep track of their balance without the other child affecting the balance - meaning - each gift card should be seperate and not totalled to the single account - Beacuse the library is fairly large, having three libraries of large amounts would be a waste.  I would also like to restrict their purchased to the gift cards only and not my credit card on file.  Does this make sense?  Once this is resolved, I'm assuming they would use their own playlists to copy their favorites to each Ipod.  Or would I set up an account for each child - which I dont want to do, because I dont want them having access to my Credit Card, and only gift card balances.  With multiple accounts, I'm assuming that would also build seperate libraries?  We also have multiple computers, but I share the library to those computers -
What is the best way?  I'd like to be able to add credit to a specific child (birthdays, etc) without the other child being able to access that credit.  For simplicity sake.
We are new to IPODS and lack any MAC skills.
    Thoughts?

Not going to happen the way you want it to.
When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.

  • HT202213 Home sharing.  Multiple ipods and more than one user..... Do they all need seperate accounts?

I have set my kids ipods up on home sharing.  Now when their games on each personal ipod, they are the same user.  Is there any way of changing this?  Or do I have to make each kid a seperate account and buy all of these games twice?

It doesn't look like anybody had any answers for me, but its no big deal as I solved it myself. The problem was dependent on the WebLogic's implementation of their security context and hence there probably isn't a generic solution. It turns out that WebLogic can associate a user object with each thread. If a thread does not have a user object associated with it, it uses the default user which is assigned the first time a user signs in. The problem was that the application thread was used to initially sign in, but the awt event thread was used to access the ejb. Since the awt thread had no context it would use the default.

  • Home Sharing with Multiple PCs and Apple IDs

My wife and I both have our own computers with our own Itunes, Apple IDs, and Itouches. Since we obviously share a bank account we want to be able to share the music that we by from the Itunes store with each other. If we both want a song there is no reason we should both have to pay for it. I have used my apple id to authorize home sharing, but I am still at a loss about how to have the music shared and such. Can anyone break this down crayola style for me so that I can get this up and working for us?
    Thanks in advance!

    My iphone 5s = apple id 1
    Husband iphone 4s = apple id 2
My ipad = apple id 3
Son #1 ipad mini = apple id 4
Son #2 ipad mini = apple id 5
For iCloud.. Not quite, you want the same ID for iCloud on your phone and iPad so you have the same info on each. (so perhaps ID 1 on both.
But if you want to share your music (assuming lets say its your ID 1 that has the iTunes account), you should all use ID 1 for iTunes.

  • I have followed the instructions to add a playlist with iTunes 11. With my iPod and my daughter's iPod it's fine and comes up with the 'on this iPod' icon once you have clicked on the device. When I use iPhone no 'on this iPhone or Add comes up? Help!!!

I have found with iTunes 11 that to move music over on my iPod it works very well and shows the 'on this iPod' button when you click on the device.
With my iPhone however, you can click on iPhone but then there is no 'on this iPhone' button or the add button?
Is it something to do with the settings on my phone?

Some other posts seem to indicate that the cause is related to voice memos.  You may want to try the remedy described in this document

  • Internet connection drops when I use Home Sharing with my iPod Touch

    Hi,
I have two PCs (Windows 7 and Windows Vista) both with iTunes 10.2.1 and an iPod Touch with iOS 4.3.1.
When I use iTunes' Home Sharing with my iPod Touch, that is, I stream music, podcasts, etc from either one of my PC computers to my iPod Touch, a few minutes later both laptops, as well as my iPod Touch, lose Internet connectivity. While home sharing continues, Internet connection is lost. I have to unplug my modem and wireless router to get back my Internet connection. The problem, however, recurs again and again.
    Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
    Dave

I am having the same problem. My MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and even the PC all lose internet connectivity;but home sharing still continues to function properly on ATV2.
I'm not too savvy on routers and modems, but could the problem be my router's capacity?

  • Tips needed for multiple iPods and users with one PC...

We are a family of four, with four iPods and one PC. We have two (Windows) user accounts set up. My husband and son share one, and my daughter and I use the other. My husband's and son's music does not show up in my user library and visa-versa. There are some songs that my husband has purchased that I would like on my iPod, but there are songs that my daughter has that I DON'T want on my iPod. Is there a way to set up 4 separate librarys that can choose to share (or not share) songs?
      Windows XP

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
    b) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option (which you've already tried) is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

I have an iMac, an iPhone, and a MacBook Pro.  My full iTunes library is on the iMac and iPhone, but only a handful of songs are on my MacBook.  They are all associated with the same Apple ID.  When I try to sync, I get a warning message stating that I will lose songs on my phone which aren't on the laptop.  How transfer my music from my phone to the laptop?

    Hey kbert73
I would do a transfer of purchases from the phone and not sync. If you sync then it will want to start over and sync music that is on the MacBook Pro. If you want to transfer the music, check out the article below that will give you multiple options on how to move. I have also provided on how to sync with multiple computers.

  • Got an IPOD nanno last year. Used Itunes often and got a lot of music. Bought another nano for a family member who is using their own laptop . Anyway for me to get music from my Itunes library onto family members ipod? Thanks

Can i get music from my itunes library (created with different computer) onto wife's ipod library (created using different computer)? Hope this makes sense

iTunes and Apple's devices work as an ecosystem. iTunes is designed to sync with Apple's products, not anyone else's. You'll need your songs in a format compatable with the Samsung phone and to use the software transfer program supplied/recommended. It is essentially not an Apple/iTunes problem. You may have better luck finding the information you need on Samsung's forums.

  • How do I add multiple songs to an existing playlist from the (no longer called) Library? Highlighting multiple songs and clicking the "Add to" button will only add the with the little arrow, not all the highlighted ones!

How do I add multiple songs to an existing playlist from the (no longer called) Library? Highlighting multiple songs and clicking the "Add to" button will only add the one with the little arrow, not all the highlighted ones! I am using the "new" iTunes.

For the moment there isn't a way for us end-users to control what is "matched" or "uploaded." That is purely a result of Apple's server-side algorithms.
To re-add multiple songs at once simply highlight all the songs you want to re-add, then right-click (or Control+click) the list and choose "add to iCloud."

  • I recently bought a new computer, downloaded itunes and all my music from the cloud, made a few more purchases on itunes then plugged in my ipod and it wont sync. My ipod is already associated with my itunes account and the computer is authorised...

I have a new laptop which will not sync my ipod to it. I've registered the computer, this is the only ipod associated with this itunes account. It shows the syncing symbol on the laptop and on the ipod but then when i eject the ipod afterwards the new songs have not transfered or my playlists.

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account."  The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases.  It is also used with iCloud.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod.  If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked).  If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.
