ITunes library should show tracks' playlist"-tag"

Why is there no "playlist" column in the iTunes library where one can select one of the available playlists? This way the name of the selected playlist could show up behind every track that it contains. More important: it will be perfectly clear which tracks not (yet). Great for organizing high volume libraries/playlists!

An excellent suggestion. Here is where you can send it to Apple...

I have several songs in my ITunes library that show as ineligible to be uploaded to ICloud via Match, even though most of them were purchased through the ITunes Store. Has anyone else experienced this and figured out why?

I had the exact same issue!! Seriously p*ssed me off when I checked out my ITunes purchased items (via my computer) and noticed that most of the additional tracks listed on my IPhone playlist was listed there too. However, I never authorized any purchases!!  (I have actually written Apple Support asking for a full refund of all tracks listed on my purchased list)
Be careful when you swipe your finger to the left/right on those "additional" tracks on your IPhone playlist... I'm pretty sure that the cloud symbol is an option to download or automatically buy those tracks.
    Solution for the problem:
1 - go to your IPhone settings
    2 - choose "iTunes & App Store"
3 - go to "Show All" & "Music"
4 - turn off "Music" by moving the bar to the left (it should be a white color once you turn it off)
    Should solve your problem :~)

  • ITunes library only shows music in the cloud, how do I tell it to show the library on my hard drive?  iTunes 11.0.2.26

I don't know how this happened.
I opened iTunes last night and the player only lists items from the cloud, which is a small percentage of my itunes library - no podcasts, no playlists.  Somehow the iTunes players has "forgotten" that my music library is on my hard drive.
How do I tell the iTunes player where to look for my library?  In About iTunes, the version I am running is 11.0.2.26
Also, how did some random songs/albums end up on the cloud when I didn't put them there?  Some of the songs were purchased through itunes but not all and not all of my purchased songs, etc. show up on the cloud.  I'm so confused.
    Thans for your help!

  • My iTunes library only shows purchased songs but i have more music on my iPod if it syncs i lose it all?

My iTunes Library only shows purchased songs from iTunes, i have music on my iPod from purchased and cds i have burnt from my computer, this all used to show up in my library but since having to have a new hard drive in my computer my library only shows purchsed songs. If i want to sync my iPod it tells me i will lose all exsisting music which i don't want to do, can anyone help?

    - TransferiTunes purchases to the "new" computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - When all ths stuff is in your iTunes library, make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and then right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup.
    - Last, restore from that backup and then sync as necessary.

  • TS2776 I can't drag songs from my iTunes Library to create a Playlist: I get a 'cancelled circle' icon over the song title as I try to drag it.

When I try to drag songs from my iTunes Library to create a playlist, nothing happens. The title appears to move but it has a 'cancelled circle' icon superimposed on it and nothing happens to the Playlist. It almost looks as if the Playlist is 'greyed out'??

I have had this as well, since updating itunes and it is a normal playlist. I have been able to add 2 but all the others I have tried come up with the cancelled circle and it is very frustrating as I used to be able to create playlists and drag whatever I wanted into them!

  • When I go to add songs from my iTunes library it shows that it went into the iPod but when I look on my iPod the song is not there?

Sorry! Figured it out. Just took awhile to load.

  • Delete songs from iTunes library from "recently added" playlist

can you please add a function that removes songs from both the entire library and the recently added playlist by simply right clicking a song while in the "Recently Added" playlist that has the "Delete" function. this is very simple and would make iTunes that much more user friendly.
    thanks!
i have no idea where else to submit suggestions like this, apple people aren't user-friendly enough.

We are only other users, such as yourself.
You can send suggestions to Apple here -> http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
Press *Shift Delete* to delete songs from a playlist and also from the library.
    (from your signature block)
    pc, duh
Not really "duh". I have a pc and it is a Macintosh.
The idea is to put correct info in your signature to help with problems you may be having As an example, if you had problems with your iTunes library disappearing and your signature showed "Sony Vaio", immediately we would know the Sony media software is the problem.
    why do you care
So we don't have to ask when you post a question.

  • Can guests using 'Remote' access my entire iTunes library or just the playlist I am using with iTunes DJ?

I am about to hold a disco for some friends and have created a playlist from appropriate tracks from my iTunes library. iTunes DJ is 'pointed' at this playlist and voting is enabled. It seems to work fine. But ... Are guests restricted to accessing the iTunes DJ playlist (I want this) or can they access the whole library (I do not want this)?
Is there a detailed user guide? I can't see one.
I presume I must transport my iMac to the venue and use one of my airport expresses to create a temporary unprotected wireless network? I say this because I have read that secured networks block voting. Trouble is an unsecured network is exactly that. Any advice appreciated.

if you have all the songs still on your ipod you can put them back on your computer from the ipod... just DONT LET ITUNES SYNC WITH YOU IPOD when you plug it back in. change the settings to manual control for syncing ipods or your itunes will delete all of them. i dont know what to do for the unchecked songs... i had a similar situation and i used a mac program to take the songs off of my ipod. hope this helps.. just google for an application that will let ya take songs off the ipod.

  • Some iTunes library files showing as an unknown file type - different files from same import...

Haven't been able to find a similar problem on here, but apologies if this is a repetition of another discussion.
Some of the files in my Itunes library popped up with the little exclamation mark next to them, so I attempted to locate them. It's been a patchy problem since transferring from PC to Mac, but has just been an issue of pointing Itunes to the right file.
However, in this instance when I navigate through to the files in the folder they aren't showing as the same file type as the music that is playing in the library - I just get a blank page icon.
What's confusing me is that these aren't different file types or from different sources. They're maybe 3 tracks out of a whole album that is playing fine, that were all ripped from the same CD at the same time.
I've no idea why the Itunes is seeing some of these files differently. Any ideas?

Looked at in the HD they're all showing as M4P. I'm sure it's the way the software is viewing the files, and not the files themselves. Itunes does offer to find the others, but then does a really crappy job of doing so - missing files in the same album in the same folder.
I've cracked the original file problem by pointing Itunes to the files by going through the MacHD route, so now I'm just wrestling with thousands of missing files that I know are sitting right next to the files that aren't missing!
I might just resign myself to ploughing through and fixing it, sorting the patchy artwork at the same time. If I do a purge at the same time I can convince myself that I'm not wasting my life!

  • Moved iTunes library, forgot to backup playlists...

So, I had my iTunes on an external hard drive but decided to upgrade my MacBooks HDD and migrate the library to that (makes traveling easier).
Every file is moved now....except, I goofed and didnt do anything for the playlists.
i have read about the xml files and all that, moving them/copying them from the old files to the new, and I am pretty sure I've done all that correctly. shut down and restarted itunes to see if it helped, and still no playlists.
is there something else i can do? i thought maybe building a new account and setting up that itunes instance to use the old itunes location could bring it back and help out, but that didn't seem to work. would be nice to not need to kill myself building new playlists....

Ok googlers from the future, here is the sultion I used.
This solution puts everything back to normal with minimal work, but it costs you however much disk space is on your ipod. I downloaded the copytrans suite off the piratebay. Then I used the ipod copy to back up my ipod. This will copy things to folders based on tags. So you have to have a second copy of your music. Once it is backed up remote the itunes library files from the top folder of the itunes library. Start itunes, and then go to import playlist. Then you select the xml file from your ipod backup. This will import the entire library into itunes. When you sync your ipod it will say iit is going to delete everything and reload it, but it doesn't. If there was stuff that was no in the library it would delete it, but there won't be because the library came from your ipod to being with. So it just copies anything to it that wasn't there, if there is anything.
From that point, when you want to add stuff to your library/ipod, you have to put a copy of the music in the library you made. So all the music you want on your computer and your ipod will take up double space on your hard drive because you have to put a copy in the library folder. Once it is there, you just go to add folder and select your library folder. THis will make it rescan and put the new songs in the database.
The good part of this is you don't have to do selective ipod loading. You make the selection when you copy to the library folder. So at that point you just sync your ipod making an exact copy.
That was the best solution for me anyway, with a big library and lots of playlists. I also never use itunes. The sole purpose of having itunes is to load my ipod. My ipod I use daily though. I don't drive anywhere without it connected to my stereo. Being able to select anything in a massive music library from my head unit while driving around is seriously awesome.

  • ITunes Library Not Showing Up

So I moved my iTunes library to an external hard drive using these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
I then proceeded to delete the old folder on my mac that had all of the iTunes files etc., but now when I open iTunes I have an empty library. My external hard drive is plugged in, and when I look at it in finder it shows that it contains all of my music. How can I get iTunes to show my music and playlists without going to the trash and restoring everything? That that would defeat the purpose of moving it to the external hard drive (I want to have more space on my computer). Thanks in adavance!

So I moved my iTunes library to an external hard drive using these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
That copies the *iTunes media folder* in /Music/iTunes/.
I then proceeded to delete the old folder on my mac that had all of the iTunes files etc.
So you deleted the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder?
You need the iTunes folder which contains the library files (not necessarily the media files).
If you have a backup, you can restore /Music/iTunes/ without the /iTunes media folder inside.

  • Why doesn't my iTunes Library list any  track info.  for the CDs I burn?

I've bought a new PC and after setting up iTunes i began to copy my CD library back into my new iTunes library on my new computer.
But when I copy a CD now the only album information that copies is "track 1" "track 2" "track 3" etc. No song titles, no artist names, no album names. No album covers. All of this information was automatically copied from the same CDs on my old computer with a slightly older version of iTunes.
What's wrong? How can I fix this?

Are you reimporting the CDs themselves or are you copying over the files from the old computer? I assume the latter.
If you are copying over the old files from the old computer, what format where they imported as? My guess is that you used AIFF or WAV files? If so, that is the problem. WAV and AIFF files can not store info like artist, track title, etc. like you can with MP3 and AAC files. Instead the iTunes database file (the .itl file on a Windows machine) keeps track of that stuff. If you move the WAV or AIFF files, that information is lost/disconnected.
Try this and see if it works. Pick all the tracks from an album and then use the Get Track Info command. Since they were originally imported by iTunes, it may work and fetch the proper information.

  • How can i restore my itunes library to get back playlists i accidently deleted

how can i restore my itunes library so i can get back playlists i accidently deleted

    Hey Russfromchicago,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to move content from your iOS device to the computer. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
If you purchased items from the iTunes Store and you've stored them on only your iOS device or iPod, you can transfer them to any computer that is authorized with your Apple ID.
