ITunes Library view changes everything?

After the recent iTunes update, I noticed that if I change views in one section of my library, it changes for ALL sections of my library. I usually use list view for my music and grid view for my movies and apps, but now it won't let me change the view for individual sections, how do I do this? Because list view for apps does not work well, nor does gird view for music, for how I use my library.

iTunes on the iPad is not your iTunes library like it is on your computer. iTunes on the iPad is a store. You view and play your synced music in the music app.
You have to sync your imported music from iTunes on your computer.

  • How to add new songs to ipod shuffle from different computer with different itune library without change old songs on ipod?

    Hello,
I am using ipod shuffle. Now it's having some songs.these songs was synchronised with my old desktop itune library. Now i changed to laptop and downloaded latest itune software. Now i need to add more songs to ipod without change old songs on ipod. How it's possible? Please help.

The way iTunes and iPods are designed is not compatible with what you want to do. The best approach would be to open iTunes on your old desktop, and make a backup of your iTunes library, from which you can copy across all the songs from your old library onto your new laptop - not just the ones that were synced to the shuffle. One place to start for instructions on how to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364
The other approach is to search online for a utility that will copy songs off an iPod without syncing it, add those songs to your new library, and then erase-and-sync the Shuffle. This way, you only get to save whatever was synced to the Shuffle at the last sync.

  • Itunes library view

I have albums mainly in itunes library plus a bunch of individual songs.  can i put all the individual songs in one "folder" so that only full albums show up in library plus one other "folder"?  any advice welcomed. thanks

    thanks for your response.
creating playlists does remove the individual songs from the library view though - correct?
    No.
Every item in iTunes is always in Library.
A playlist is simply a bunch of links to songs in the library

  • Itunes library key change? between external hd and macbook hd

    hi
i have macbook and a big external hd. my itunes library is in external hd using "alias". so that when it opens it searches for my library in home/music folder and alias to my external hd.
but when i am on road, i would like to have a small library on my macbook hd using maybe a different library name and so on.
is there any function or some key (like apple + l) to change between 2 libraries?
    thanks

Simply hold down the option key when starting itunes. It will present you with the option to create a new library which you can store where every you like. In your case just create the new library on your internal drive, and add whatever music to that library. Make sure copy to library is turned on in itunes preferences>advanced>general if you want it to actually copy the music from the external to the internal library.

Are you copying over the iTunes Library.itl file and other supporting files in the iTunes folder, as well as the media folder iTunes Media? See Make a split library portable for some background.

  • ITunes library not showing everything on my disc

I have iTunes 11.0.4.4 and I just notived my library is about 1/3 of what it should be.  I also found at least one song under the wrong Album.  If I look on my hard drive, I see all the proper albums & songs but iTunes does not.  I also notice I all of a sudden of a sudden have a lot of songs with the cloud icon next to them.  If I go to play them, I have to wair for iTunes to get them from the cloud.  I don't get this because I have never had any action where I have saved songs to the clouds.  Any ideas on what is going on here?
Just to get a final rant in, I have been thoroughy disgusted with iTunes since verion 11 first popped up.  I take it this is just more crap from this version.

I did some looking around and found some files & need to understand how I can repair this.  This is what I found:
    1. iTunes Library.itl  234K  9/17/2013
    2. iTunes Library(Damaged).itl  1,219K  7/04/2013
    3. iTunes Library.xml  1248K  9/17/2013
    4. iTunes Library 2013-05-28.itl  1200K
I know the last one is a back up & I can probably just rename & move it, then redownload anything I purchased since then.  Before I do that I wanted to know if there is a way the damaged file could be repaired?  Or can the data in the xml file be considered valid & is there any way to extract that.
    Thanks

  • My iTunes library spontaneously changes or adds information to tags of music files.

I have all my music on an external Hdd (NAS) and it happens to me quite a lot that suddenly songs are missing from albums, moved to another place, etc. After a while I find these songs back under another bandname, or in a strange place. Looking at the info of the file I then see that e.g. the album artist has been changed. A radiohead song from a radiohead album, suddenly has Pink Floyd added as AlbumArtist.....
How on earth does tghis happen and moreover how do I prevent this from happening all the time?

That stinks!  I can actually do that at my house...I just plug my iPhone right into the wire that's plugged into my receiver in my living room...but some of my friends aren't "technology savvy"...lol...so they just have DVD players and I'll put the CD in there because it will read an MP3 disc.  What's funny, is I have the phone set to "Manually Manage Music", and when I plugged it into the laptop just now, the one song I downloaded last night on the phone, transferred over to the iTunesl library.  That NEVER happens.  And it only transferred the one song...it didn't double the other songs like it ususally does.  I swear, iTunes does what it wants, when it wants sometimes...lol.  Thank you for your quick response.

  • I have lost half my itunes library whilst changing computers

Being completely unsavvy I lost half of my songs whilst transferring to a new laptop. The "missing" songs still appear to be on the old laptop. Should I just reconnect my iPhone 5 iOS7 to the old laptop and download again or will I just be making matters worse......?
The old laptop is an ASUS running on Vista and the new laptop an Acer Aspire with Windows 8.

(Edit) PS. When you say "You simply copy that onto the new computer and then use File/Add Folder to Library to add them in as well." Would I do that by re-syncing my iPhone on the old laptop and then again on the new one?
No. You cannot use the iPhone to transfer music from one computer to another. How did you transfer the music in you previous attempt? Use that same method (such as copy onto an external drive and then paste into new computer). Once you have done that, in iTunes, use the menu at the top (which you can turn on using CTRL B), and then use File/Add Folder to Library...
Once the music is in your Library, Sync the iPhone to the new Library to add the songs to your phone.

  • Help with itunes music library view

My itunes library view is only showing purcahsed items, not my full music library.  I've checked advanced preferences and am pointed to the correct library and all my files are there but they aren't showing in the library view?  I'm terrified to sync my devices and lose all of my music and playlists.

I can't find any file with an .itl extension (but I can't find one on our other Mac, either, so it isn't just my MacBook). In addition to the iTunes Music Library.xml file, there's a file [on both our Macs] that's simply called "iTunes Libary" (the file kind is listed as "iTunes Database File") and that's the other file I read not to touch or delete.
    Would that be the one?
It says it was created on July 3rd and last updated yesterday, so if that does turn out to be the one, then that really could be the end of the playlists. July 3rd was the day I first started trying to move my library (and failed, as the new HD was defective and ate everything I put on it before imploding, so I'm putting everything back in the original location). I didn't read the instructions not to touch the .xml file until Friday or Saturday, and I can't remember if I checked to see if the playlists were still there between the 3rd and yesterday. So it's possible I did accidentally delete it on the 3rd.
But I think I was still seeing stuff in my playlists over the weekend, and looking at my Recent Tracks Played list on Last.fm, it looks like I was listening to stuff on at least one of my iTunes playlists on the 5th. I'm pretty sure they were still intact after the 3rd.

  • Why iTunes Library file is changing with no reason ?

I noticed that even when there is no activity in iTunes, the file located at
"~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library" is changing regularly, causing Time Machine to backup it every time.
At the end of the day I have around 500MB transfered for nothing on my backup disk (24h * 20MB).
Apparently iPhoto files "AlbumData.xml" and "Library6.iPhoto" have the same behaviour.
Any idea on how this can be improved ? I don't want to exclude these files, nor I want to shut down iTunes when I leave my Mac open at home.
PS : I found this tool very useful to track Time Machine activity :
    http://fernlightning.com/doku.php?id=software:misc:tms

    Two points:
First, are you sure you don't have podcasts automatically downloading, or something else making changes to your library file? Since you've got tms you can look and see exactly what's changed, which will probably explain itself.
Second, quoting from the marketing blurb about Leopard, "Time Machine saves the hourly backups for the past 24 hours, daily backups for the past month, and weekly backups for everything older than a month." So I don't think you'll run out of backup space any time soon because of these hourly copies of your library file.
Most important, ya gotta keep something flowing through them tubes, or they freeze up, right?

  • I've tried moving my iTunes library to an external hard drive but it is still on my local C drive?

    Hi there,
I am working on PC equipment here, not Apple.  I have tried consolidating my my iTunes library and changing the "iTunes Media folder location" to my external hard drive as described on some discussions on this website  and at first it seemed to work.  But when I disconnect my external hard drive (E: drive) and click my iTunes icon on my desktop, iTunes still comes from my local C: drive, so iTunes is still there taking up all my memory space on C:drive.  What I want to do is set up my iTunes to be entirely on my my external E: drive and not on my C:drive at all (it is taking up WAY too much memory on my c:drive).  So here are my questions:
    1.  If I have correctly copied all my iTunes library onto my E:drive - is it just a copy and all the original information is still in C;drive as well?  If so, how do I go about clearing my library in C:drive?
    2.  Do I have to 'unistall' iTunes from my C:drive to get rid of all my memory robbing iTune files.  If so, how can I make sure that all my information has been copied onto my external E:drive before I get rid of all my music?  I don't want to lose everything?
I just want to clear up my local C:drive on my laptop to get my memory back, what can I do?
    Thanks.

Thanks so much for your tip!!  I did that, but it says there's no files in the library.
Originaly in Itunes > preferences>advanced>under folder location I put in new path pointing to the Ex HD.  made a new folder for my son's library "Nick's Itunes Library". (Keep itunes media folder organized is checked).
    Clicked on change.
Then i was prompted ot move the exisiting files over which I did.  Went to File>Library>Organize Library>consolidate files>OK
I did all that.  I closed itunes, went to the external HD to verify all the files were there.  They were.  Went back into itunes on the mac mini HD and deleted the files one at a time.  I realize that this whole thing is not a deal breaker as it is all in iCloud.  And can be downloaded again if necessary.  But I want to know how to do this manually.
I just checked the external HD again. The files are there, Itunes isn't recognizing them is my guess.

  • ITunes library has lost the past year's worth of content, but the files are still in the directory

Help! How do I restore the past 11.5 months' worth of content to my iTunes library?
Well this is weird. Suddenly my iTunes library has lost everything added since late January 2014 - almost a year's worth of content. Podcasts, audiobooks, iTunes purchases, MP3s bought elsewhere and imported, movies, TV shows - all gone. Apps added in the past year also seem to be gone, although apps acquired before then have the most current update. As far as I can tell, all of that content is in the file directory structure - it's just not in the iTunes library system.
Curiously, the "last played" data all seems current, except that many of the more recently played songs have gone missing; tracks that were modified in the past year, but were added in 2013 or before, are still listed as being modified in 2014. Anything changed in the past year remains changed; but anything added in the past year simply isn't there.
I have no idea what caused this. Earlier today iTunes crashed for random reasons, but that happens every week or two anyway; and for that matter this issue could have developed a couple of days ago, and I just didn't notice it. (I'm sure it can't be older than that - I would have noticed.)
I've got good Time Machine backups, but I'm not sure how to go about restoring this - I suspect that this help page tells me the steps I need to take, but I'd like to have some confirmation before going through those steps. (And that procedure doesn't involve Time Machine anyway, right?)
Theoretically I suppose I could also go through my directory and add the files to iTunes, one by one, but it would be extraordinarily complicated to figure out what needed to be added. I'd also like to get back all the metadata - played, unplayed, play count, last played, and so on.
Restoring the files from Time Machine doesn't seem to make sense to me, because the files aren't actually missing. Would restoring an iTunes Library.itl file help at all?
    Thanks in advance!

Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
    Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.)
