Itunes Load Times

Hey all.
I would just like a bit of input regarding the Itunes load times? How long on average does it seem to take from when you first click on the itunes icon, until it pops up? Because it seems to take quite a bit longer than my other media players, and I was just wondering if I am facing an issue.

You have posted in the Mac forum, you will probably find more help in the Windows forum.

  • Slow load times for itunes u

We have noticed that lately iTunes U for UW-Whitewater (uww.edu) has been extremely slow, and sometimes even timing out.  We have been trying this from various different locations and computers.  It appears to be something on the apple side.  Has anyone else seen this?
Apple Engineers: Any updates as to what might be going on?

    Greetings Guys;
We had the same issue yesterday, but the issue seemed to be affecting only the iTunes desktop application.  When I would preview using the iPad, load times were normal.  The issue seems to have been resolved this morning.

Awesome post.  This is the best description I've seen of what continually makes me angry about Apple.  I guess their attitude is, "Whoa, look at all this money!  If it ain't broke, why fix it?"  And Margthecar the I keep shoveling money into their coffers ....

  • Long load times.  software? hardware? downloads?

in the past few hours i have developed the problem of longer thn normal load times. they went from .25 sec up to 5 or 6sec idk what to do my software ugrades are from earliest to latest, stuffit, wmp for mac osx, istat pro, core duo temp and i have 512 mb of ram any suggestions? oh i have been running itunes and safari

Typical with all computers usually. It's where programs get loaded into RAM and not fully cleared out. Once you reboot the memory gets reset and it's a clean slate. If it's killing performance that much, then why not upgrade the RAM?

Why won't Netflix nor iTunes load on my iPad and iPhone since I downloaded iOS7 and I OS 7.0.2?

Sounds like you may need to re-download the entire albums from iTunes. See this KB article for how to download past purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.
I'd suggest doing it one album at a time. Delete one, download it from your purchase histor, then the next, etc.

  • ITunes loading delays on screaming machine - takes 90 seconds to load

Need some help. Just built a new machine from the ground up. It has Intel Duo Core E6600 2.40 ghz CPU, 1066Mhz FSB, 4 mb L2 Cache; 2 gb DDR Ram; 500gb Raid 0 HDD; GeForce 7600GT 256mb Video card. Running Windows XP Home until Vista comes out. Screams. All other apps load in <1sec. iTunes 7.0.2 takes 90 seconds to load. With NAV & Firewall off still takes 75 seconds to load. iTunes load on other older PC's in the house takes 5-20 seconds. When watching Task Manager on itunes.exe; in first second ~25,000k loads into memory, then hangs for 90 seconds and then remaining load happens taking memory usage up to ~45,400k. Any ideas as to what's going on? Baffling?

sorry for the delay in getting back to you Windbeam. 60-odd reply-notification backlog in my inbox, and i'm trying to alert people that i'm not going to be around much for the next 2 weeks.
Seems to be related to hardware or the OS. Solution is to have a cd in the drive and then the load screams. Makes no sense at all! Very strange.
good lord ... that is peculiar. if it wasn't for the fact that having the CD in there was helping boot times too, i'd be wondering about a problem with your iTunes CD drivers ... but they don't load on startup.
perhaps check on the general wellness of the drive? i'm getting similar symptoms at the moment from belladonna (just during boot-up, though). her optical drive is broken at the moment, and when she's booting there is a significant delay, and i can hear the desultory clunky/whirr noises as the drive tries to run during those delays.
so it might be worth just doublechecking if your firmware is up-to-date on the drive. there's some info in these documents that might help with that:

  • Have to restart iTunes EVERY time I want to stream to Apple TV!

I have the 2012 Apple TV and while Netflix, Youtube, etc. normally work well, I have to restart iTunes EVERY time I want to stream to Apple TV! My iMac is always on and the newest version of iTunes is always running. It doesn't seem to matter if the iMac is in sleep mode or not, and I have a very strong wifi signal coming from my Airport Express. Every time - not sometimes - I want to access music, TV shows or movies in iTunes on Apple TV, it says my library is loading, or cannot connect. Every time. What can I do?

WC, When I use the term Home Sharing it is perhaps a little oversimplified, it is quiet impractical and often overkill to continually restate the complete sequence of events that led me to 'a fix', however, I did not suddenly one day find a problem, switch to wi-fi and find all was well. There was significant investigation done on my part to try to find a solution. if by me saying I moved to wifi and it worked, others can move to wifi and have a fix, great. I am not trying to reinvent the wheel here, others much cleverer than me are looking at that...
I had a functioning setup over wired until approx 2 months ago with an ATV2 connecting to Imac library, I was at the time occasionally running some software that restarted itunes once finished which may have masked the problem if it was there, unlikely though. I purchased an ATV3 with a new TV, this upon installation required an ios update much the same time as the itunes update.
I noticed the white light on the atv3 flashing when it was asleep, this was not something i had seen on the atv2, Investigation suggested this was normal behaviour, I remain unconvinced of this.
from that point on 'Home Sharing' did not work until a restart of itunes, it would then work all night (6+ hours)
My mac was set to sleep over night, I tried turning that off-no difference, turned ip6 off-no difference, once it hangs other devices on the network are unable to see the itunes lib, iphone, ipad,MBP etc
Once the thing hangs, Netstat shows a massive quantity of open ports 100/150+ to each on/sleeping atv,  a restart of itunes clears this lot. with wired, these connections start to build again, with wireless not so much.
looking back on here shows folks have had this problem in various guises since early 2011, apple by their own admission state the last update 'fixes some issues with Home Sharing', it seems it introduced some for me...
I am quite sure some peoples problems are down to underlying network problems however this is supposed to be 'Home Sharing' it shouldnt need a degree in computer science to configure, it should just work.
I am not about to pull my network apart to troubleshoot any further, between mac & atv's there are 2 x Giga/switches(netgear) and an Airport Extreme(bridged), the atv cable was plugged into the A.Ex no dice and now connects w/less to the same box and works fine...

  • Itunes loads slowly

Before upgrading to 10.5, iTunes would launch in a couple seconds.  Since upgrading to 10.5, iTunes takes 10-15 seconds to load on a Win 7 Professional 64-bit machine.  Given that my Windows experience score is 7.5, this doesn't sound quite right.
I've uninstalled Apple programs and reinstalled several times -- same issue on load time.
    Thanks!

I'm having same prob. I'm using win7 and the music store is sooo slow, it's virtually unusable. Please fix!

  • ITunes loads very slow

With over 48000 songs, itunes loads very slow. Thinking it my be my pc I loaded it onto a new pc and get the same results. Is there anything I can do to getit to load under 5 seconds at least?

    Dear Apple,
I need to complain about the same problem. I have 1/10th the songs in i-Tunes (~4800) and I cringe every time I want to start the program. The same delay happens anytime I load or switch a CD to import a song.
Google can load a billion links in a blink; can't you load a millionth of this info in the same amount of time? Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
    Frustrated,

  • ? regarding firewire 800 load time

Hi all. I recently purchased a new imac i5 27" and at the same time purchased a G-Force 3TB Hard Drive. I keep my iphoto library and itunes library on the external drive and have encountered what I consider an annoyance but am unsure if it is normal or not. I have itunes and iphoto set to automatically open when my computer is restarted, as both libraries are on the external drive neither itunes or iphoto can load unless the external drive is fully operation and on the desktop once OS X has loaded.
When using either of the G-Force's Firewire 800 ports to connect to the iMac it takes 12-15 seconds for the G-Force hard drive icon to load onto the desktop once OS X has loaded. Of course by this time iTunes & iPhoto have both attempted to load and can not as the G-Force hard drive still hasn't loaded. However if I use the G-Force's USB 2.0 to connect to the iMac the external had drive is always loaded by the time the desktop comes up and this of course negates the problem I have been having with the initial load of itunes and iPhoto.
Is it par for the course that Firewire 800 takes longer to startup? It would seem counter intuitive to me but I don't have much experience with it? Or perhaps it's just this particular external hard drive (or it's FW 800 ports) that is causing the long initial load time, however that wouldn't explain why when using USB 2.0 on the hard drive I don't have this problem.
The bottom line is that for the meantime I will have to use USB 2.0 as I really like to have itunes & iPhoto open at launch. I can't say I'm loving the G-Force 3TB as this is my second unit, the first returned due to long read/write times, so perhaps not all Firewire 800 drives take so long to load? Any insight would be appreciated. Thx

Is it par for the course that Firewire 800 takes longer to startup?
    No.
I have a 1.0TB external drive connected via FW800. I've partitioned it into three volumes. On booting or restarting, when the desktop is first displayed all three volumes are displayed with it. No delays at all.
The delay you experience could well be something peculiar to your drive.

  • Long loading times for Safari on iPad Air with iOS8

I've had long loading times in Safari sInce upgrading to iOS8 on my iPad Air 128 GB. Are any of you having the same experience?

Sometimes I question myself, how come that iOS being held in beta for over quarter or even over a half a year, and most certainly long enough in alpha, still comes out so much raw and buggy every release? Sometimes it feels like it's only getting worse concerning the debugging.
I wanted to address the HR manager of the Apple Inc. to query him/her about HIS/HER dedication to the overall work being done. Why, the ****, does Safari get slow, why, the ****, is it unpredictable to define whether a sound stream in Safari's tab will end upon tab closure or not. Morever, why do iPhone iMessages fail to mark a message or a chain as a read one even thought you just really did it. Beyond that miriad of similar questions I have just another three, since when is it official Apple support position to advise you to wipe out your device and install everything back from iTunes, not the cloud? But what is more important, how come that support representative tells you first to back up your buggy iPad, wipe it out and restore from that backup both with iTunes? Finally, we all know how Apple does cherish it's developers, can somebody tell me how, for heavens sake, this website ever possible to exist then — Texts From Xcode?
I don't want neither need to mention that switching between tabs in iOS7 (I have had no chance to test it in iOS8) in Safari never gave you any sure answer whether your tab will be reloaded when you get back or not: whether have you copy any post before leaving, to paste back on return or not.
After all I do still love Apple, I do love people's ideas. I do love the overall outcome, but I want to tell Mr. Cook one phrase I heard when I used to be a head of a department in a medium size company and had to deal with continuous fails of the personnel and most often ended up doing much things myself, it was not the exact situation as with Apple although I hope you can trace a path: If a manager has to do anything besides managing he or she failed to manage one major issue — the personnel one.

  • Loading time and hour

    Hello friends,
I am having the same problem as some people had here: when trying to install my apple tv it gets stuck on the first screen (loading time and date). Apparently it is something related to my router. The question is, how to set up my router so I can use it with my apple tv?
Supposing that is possible, of course.
Mine is a Cisco DPC3925 but I thought there might be a way of doing it with all the routers...
I could not find one single tutorial or someone who would explain how to do it.
Anyone has any ideas or links that could help me?
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you guys!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Also try restarting the router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.
If this is a new Apple TV, in addition to trying the above, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

There have been a few reports on here where Corsair RAM seems to have caused users a lot of grief with crashes.
The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

  • Can a BIG form be served up one page at a time to avoid long load time?

Tricks I have read for optimizing the load time of large forms are not helping. Linearization causes the first page to render quickly, but you can't interact with the fields until the whole form finishes loading -- no help there. Is there a way to break the form into pages (without creating entirely separate forms) so the user can fill out a page, hit a Next Page button, fill out that page, etc.? Understood that this is an old school idea, but until Reader can download a 1+ MB form in less time than it takes an average user to get ticked off, old school might do the trick.
Alternatively, is there a way to construct a form so you can start interacting with it without having to wait for it all to load? This question comes from the (uninformed) assumption that maybe there are forward references that can't be satisfied until all the bits have come over the wire. If that's right, can a multipage form be architected so as to avoid this problem?

No that technology does not exist yet. There are form level events that need to have the entire document there before they can fire. Also you would have to keep track of where you are so that would mean some sort of session information for each user.

TomBud, I know the corners look bad on a few shots. Believe me, I was kicking myself when I looked at the video for not being more careful. I tried putting in a matte in the corners, like little triangle pieces, but I think it detracted from the video more than the blemishes.
