ITunes Locked On iPod Screen PLEASE HELP!

Okay, so I recently bought a new computer, and I downloaded all of my iTunes software onto the new one. My other computer doesn't even turn on anymore, so I can't access it at all to back up my files. I have 85 songs on my iPod. (It's a nano, if that makes a difference.) When I plug my iPod into my computer, it charges fine, and it says Do Not Disconnect for a while, but nothing updates. iTunes does recognize it, but when I click on it in the side bar in iTunes, all of my songs are gray and I can not click on them. Then at the small bar on the bottom which tells you how much space is taken up on your iPod, it has a little lock next to it. I am assuming my iPod is locked. The hold button is NOT on. I tried resetting it, by just switching the hold button, and holding the menu and select button, and it reset, but it doesn't work. I had my friend plug in HER nano, and all her music is normal and it is not locked. (There isn't a lock symbol near the memory bar at the bottom.) I think I may have locked it by accident and I don't know how to unlock it!! All my music plays and it is completley normal, except for that I can't load any music onto my iPod or take music from my iPod and put it into my computer.
PLLLLLEASE HELP! I WANT IT TO WORK!

"all of my songs are gray and I can not click on them"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
"All my music plays and it is completley normal, except for that I can't load any music onto my iPod or take music from my iPod and put it into my computer."
In manual mode you will be able to drag and add songs to your iPod. However you can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod.

  • ITunes locking up after sync,,,Please Help !!!

    Hi All-
I have recently switched my iTunes from my desktop to my laptop and i used the "shared" feature to transfer my podcasts from my desktop to my pc via the wireless network in my house. Since doing so.
I try to sync the iPod and what i get is the 3 steps to sync, it idintifies the iPod, backs up the iPod and then sync the iPod. nothing transfers with the 3rd (syncing) step.
My problem happens when I try to click on the podcasts tab along the top of the screen. I wish to select that my podcasts be able to sync, but when I click the podcast icon, the whole program freezes up, and does not respond.
    I have tried the following,,,,
Re-Installed iTunes, Shut off the pc and re start and re run iTunes and tried to sync again,,,but nothing works,
Please help me and let me know what mght help me get past this so I can select the items I wish to have sync with the iPod.
Thanks for your time and feel free to ask questions if you need further informsation.
    Sincerely- Doug

Why are you introducing issues instead of simply syncing to your desktop?
Turning on home sharing in iTunes does not copy media to other computers.
The media still resides on the system sharing the media, in your case that is your desk top.
Either sync with your desktop or on your laptop subscribe to the podcasts so that their files reside ON your laptop.

  • Itunes downloaded tv show plays on itunes, not on ipod. PLEASE HELP !

I have downloaded TV programs from the ITunes store. They play in Itunes and appear in the listings on my Ipod. However, when I click on them to play them, the little Play symbol appears, the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds and then it returns to the list. All the latest software is on. This is a new Ipod. Everything else seems to work. Any thoughts? PLEASE HELP ME, i'm sort of hopeless at this...

  • Itunes wont update ipod! please help!

For some reason when i plug my ipod into my computer it won't update my ipod! It recognises the ipod and says "do not disconnect" but it wont add any new songs at all. I'm going away tomorrow and i really want all of my newest music to take with me. Its an old but fully working 40gb touchbar. Please help! xx

Maybe you have the iPod set to manual transfer, in which case you need to drag and drop music from iTunes into the iPod.
    Check in iPod preferences.

  • Hardly able to see iPod screen- Please help

I recently downloaded the newest update for my iPod and shortlyafter my iPod went black. It works fine but I can hardly see the screen. It is like the light in my iPod went out. I have tried to restore it and have done all of the suggestions on the support page but I still cannot figure it out.
    Any Ideas? Please help

I just got the newest iPod Touch 32G and from time to time the screen dims so much I can't read it. This happens even on a fully charged battery. This happens randomly and nothing I do fixes it. The screen brightens up on its on after a few minutes. I also checked the brightness setting, which has no effect on it. I'm wondering if I should consider taking it back for exchange.

  • Missing iTunes on my iPod mini, please help

I used to have some itunes that I had paid for on my ipod mini but tonight when I updated my ipod I receieved a message that read, "some of the songs in the iTunes music library including the song "100 years," were not copied to the iPod "Alissa's iPod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." My iTunes have been erased from my iPod but are still on my computer iTunes. This message is very confusing to me because I downloaded these songs from iTunes onto the only computer that I use to update my iTunes on. I don't understand why I wouldn't be authorized to use iTunes on my iPod all of a sudden when I was authorized before. Can anyone help me get my songs back onto my ipod? All of my other songs in my library that I have from my cds are still on my ipod, I'm only missing the downloaded iTune songs.

First of all, ensure that you are using the lates iTunes which is version 4.9
Then try Deauthorizing and then reauthorizing your computer, and see if this fixes the transfer issue.

  • Itunes locked up (i think) - please help

Hey i just got my Ipod for christmas and i need some help with this. I have 45 dollars worth of itunes cards and I went to download Lost (the first episode) and about a quarter of the way through the download it stopped and it paused the dowload. How do i resume it? Do i have to repurchase it?

Well I can't give you a for-sure on that, but when downloads used to stall through my dial-up connection, I did used to re-boot as a pretty normal course of events. It was a sloow connection, so I'd usually launch the downloading once a day. If it stalled, I'd just try it again the next day.

  • Can't get past "Find My iPod" set-up screen, please help :(

Hi, so I just bought an iPod Touch, to replace my old iPod Nano. I downloaded the latest iTunes, plugged in my iPod, clicked on the iPod's icon in the bar on the left, did the register thing... then it came up with a completely unformatted block of text which looks like this:
    "Free Find My iPhone
    Free Find My iPad
    Free Find My iPod touch
Set up Find My iPhone for free so you can locate your device if you lose it, remotely lock the screen, or wipe its data. You can also find your iPad or iPod touch.Set up Find My iPad for free so you can locate your device if you lose it, remotely lock the screen, or wipe its data. You can also find your iPhone or iPod touch.Set up Find My iPod touch for free so you can locate your device if you lose it, remotely lock the screen, or wipe its data. You can also find your iPhone or iPad. Learn More
    Not Now
    Set up Find My iPhone
    Set up Find My iPad
Set up Find My iPod touch
Find My iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) enables you to locate your iPad with Wi-Fi or iPod touch only when it is on and connected to a registered Wi-Fi network. Find My iPhone is not available in all countries."
This was in the iTunes window. There were hyperlinks (or whatever the in-application equivalent is) on "Learn More", "Not Now", and "Set up Find My iPhone
    Set up Find My iPad
Set up Find My iPod touch"
When I click on any of the links, nothing happens I can't get past this screen to sync my iPod. Please help!
    When I right-clicked on the "Not Now" link and then clicked "copy link", this is what it copies: javascript:gotoNextStep();
Don't know if that helps at all.
I go through a lot of firewalls that aren't under my control (I use a high school's internet to cut a long story short) if that is relevant.

Garygargar is spot on.  Just unplugged my network cable and relaunched Itunes.  Got past that FindMe screen, plugged the cable back in, wait 10 seconds,  and on my way.
I love it when the first google search result is the actual fix for something!

    - First try resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Next connect to a computer and restore the iPod if theiPod appears in iTunes.
    - Next see if placing he iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

Yes, that is your only option.Yes.  You have to restore.
Try the following if you have difficulty restoring.
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT4436 I am using IOS 4.1 in Ipod touch. I would like to take my data back using icloud. I am not able to enable icloud in to my ipod touch. please help me for the same.

I am using IOS 4.1 in Ipod touch. I would like to take my data back using icloud. I am not able to enable icloud in to my ipod touch. please help me for the same. Basically I am trying to take back to upgrade my ios to 5 or 6 version.

You can't back up to iCloud until you update to iOS 5 or higher.  You will have to back up your iPod on your computer using iTunes.  Update iTunes on your computer to the latest version, then connect your iPod to your computer, open iTunes, if iTunes give you a pop-up asking if you want to update your iPod, decline.  Then click on the name of your iPod in iTunes, go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer any purchased media to your iTunes library.  Next, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click on Back Up Now to back up your iPod on your computer.
When it's done backing up, click on Check for Update (or Update) on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings.  Allow your iPod to update, and leave it connected to your computer.  At the end, it will restart and give you the option to restore to the iTunes backup you made earlier.  Choose this option to restore your backup and sync your apps and other iTuens media to your phone.
This process is outlined in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972, under "If you are attempting to update using a Mac or PC with which you normally sync".
