ITunes Locking Up after Ripping CDs

Today I downloaded the newest version of ITunes to my computer. Afterward, I tried copying music from a CD to my Music Library in ITunes. It would copy the songs, but after the copying was through, when I tried to access the song or copy another CD, ITunes would lock up and I would have to "End Task" and restart my computer. Once restarted, I could again copy a CD, but when completed would lock up again. This went on for 4 CDs...very frustrating. After I completed copying the CDs and had once again restarted the computer, ITunes worked fine...transferring songs to the IPod was no problem. Any Help?

I have the same problem. I have a mac though. I thought it would be less problematic on a Mac. I was wrong. Any help would be great. At this rate I'l have my library loaded by next year.

My upgraded, removed, and readded iTunes locks up after adding just one song. It just stops responding. Then I have to turn it on over and over again just to get music on the thing. Can someone help me?

There are lots of reasons why this might happen.
One quick thing to check,
Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab > Importing tab
What's your setting for "use error correction when reading audio cds"?
Change it the other way of what it is now, and try importing again.

HT4913 iTunes locks up after I add the computer to Match

iTunes locks up after I add the computer to Match. I have to End the Process from the Task Manager. When I reopen, it says Match encountered an error and I should Sign out and sign back in again. I have done this numerous times and no luck. I have run a repair from the Programs screen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. This is a new computer runing Windows 7.

I had the EXACT same problem. My 60GB video iPOD was stolen, so I went and bought a new 80GB. I plugged it in, and BAM, iTunes is frozen!
I fixed it. I'm not going to say that this is the best way to do it, but it worked, so, use this solution at your own risk, I hope it helps some people out.
1. I did a file search of my entire computer for "itunes" and it came up with 292 results! Everytime I had downloaded it, copied it, transferred info from 1 computer to another, another copy was made. I don't know for sure, but I believe there was a conflict between 1 or more copies of iTunes, and it didn't know which program file to use, so it just locked up.
2. I copied all of the music that was in my "iTunes music folder" in My Music for a back up and named it something that didn't contain "iTunes", since anything you downloaded from the iTunes store can only be downloaded once.
3. I followed the file path for EVERY file that had anything to do with iTunes, and manually put it in the recycle bin- I mean program files, short cuts, everything. The exception is (& I stress this) the copy of your iTunes folder you just made has your podcasts, etc which will show up in your search. Make sure you recognize this and DO NOT delete those files. I also deleted anything that had to do with the previous iPOD. There are a few of them. That resolved any conflict I had with the previous one.
4. I then emptied the recycle bin & restarted the computer.
5. Go to Apple.com and download the new iTunes.
When I opened it up, it showed NO music, as it should. I went to "Import folder", found the folder that I copied from the iTunes music folder and clicked ok. 3 1/2 hrs later, I was transferring 8889 songs, videos, podcasts & movies to my new iPOD.
Think about each step as you do it, so you don't jack it up but it worked for me. Hope it does for you too.

ITunes locks up while ripping w/ latest update

With the most recent update, iTunes has begun locking up when I attempt to rip CDs. The severity of the problem ranges from a partial lockup of XP Pro--iTunes becomes extremely difficult to close, even when forcing it via Task Manager--to a complete freezing of the computer, forcing a hard shutdown at the power switch in order to get the machine to work again.
In the partial lockup scenario, even after iTunes disappears from the Applications panel in Task Manager, it takes a LONG time before iTunes.exe will finally close in the Processes panel. Even after it disappears, XP becomes difficult to use; many (but not all) applications won't launch afterwards (Firefox, IE). The ONLY way to clean this up is to reboot.
From what I can tell, iTunes is the only application on this computer that exhibits this problematic behavior, so I'm guessing that it's not a hardware or OS issue, but one specific to iTunes itself. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? (reinstall?)

I'm having a problem that is similar to this (on OSX Leopard) I've been re-ripping my entire collection, and for at least 3 cds now, I believe because of scratches, iTunes will get stuck on a song and become essentially unresponsive. Most everything on the computer works great except for disk utility and I cannot shut down, stop iTunes, or eject the cd. I am unable even to send one of OSX's automated crash reports because I believe iTunes has locked up access to the cd drive.
I cannot shut the computer down completely without a hard shut down (holding down the power button on my mac).

Itunes Locks seconds after loading

Recently my itunes has started to lock just after loading, it opens then begins to check the podcasts then locks, i can do nothing after that point apart from close it from the task manager. i have repaired, uninstalled and reinstalled it but still nothing, it does it regardless of having the ipod connected.

Itunes locks up after Ipod Classic Sync and eject

Windows 7. Latest rev of Itunes. Ipod Classic 80GB. Everything has been working fine for years. Now when I sync and then eject the Ipod, Itunes locks up and I have to do a restart to the computer to get Itunes working again.

ITunes locks up after adding music to library

Using the 7.5 version, everytime I add music to my library via importing from a CD, itunes locks up and I am forced to shut itunes down using the Windows Task Manager. I realize that many are having problems with 7.5, but has anyone had this problem yet? And better yet, does anyone know how to fix it?

Music Distortion after ripping CDs onto iTunes

This is really frustrating me now.
Just recenlty I purchased a brand new CD and ripped it onto me iTunes but i sounds distorted and generally bad. I don't know why this is happening as its never happened before and i've tried everything all my drivers are updated and I've re-ripped it over and over. On Windows media player though it also sounds distorted and i've tried it on another PC with iTunes and it works fine. I ripped another CD which also sounded terrible and i just deleted it. After a while though it seems as thoughit just "got better" and now it sounds fine, but when i went to rip the CD i orginally deleted, it sounds distorted again. I have no idea in what i did in order to make it better and am desperate to find a solution to this issue

After itunes locked up after CD import (scratch), It now imports half speed

I don't know if there is a "Safe" or "Limp" mode after a itunes lockup, but If someone has any ideas what could be causing this let me know. It was copying music from CD into itunes between 11-12X, but after it locked up that one time, after I rebooted and went on to the next CD (and every one since), it copys at around 4-6X. Any ideas besides re-install ?

Missing artwork in itunes 7.5 after ripping cd with dbpoweramp

ok so i've ripped a few cds using dbpoweramp (aac) and added the aac files to my itunes 7.5 library. the artwork doesn't show up so i select all the tracks of a particular cd and select 'get album artwork' and nothing happens!
what do i need to do? only seems to work properly if i rip the cds in itunes which i'd rather not do. the items in question are readily available in itunes music store.

The smaller version of the artwork or thumbnail was probabbly being used by your other music application, I would use the larger version though.

ITunes does not recognize ripped CDs-- Help!

Last night, I ripped (or imported, whatever term you'd like to use) The Wall by Pink Floyd into my iTunes library, and everything was perfectly fine (in fact, i'm listening to it from my library right now). However, tonight when I tried to rip the rest of my Pink Floyd collection, the music was imported just fine, and appears in Finder when i search it using the This Mac tab, however it does not appear in my iTunes library, even though The Wall did. What should I do?

Hi there, I'm new here so be easy on me.
My system specs are...
Win XP SP2 - 10K RPM system drive
Tyan Thunder Mobo
2-Dual core AMD Opteron 2218 - 2.61GHz
2 Gigs ram
Dual Samsung 930B monitors
ATI X1950 - 512 ram
650 watt PS
I mostly do video and photo editing on this machine with office also installed a few other programs for production.
I have in the past been able to install and run itunes successfully. I have recently used a proprietary software app which basically brings my system back to the day that it was born 2 years ago. Like re installing everything but in 1 big motion.
Okay, after that I did not have QT or itunes on the computer so I downloaded 7.5 and ran through the install...
After that it asked to build the library which I said yes.
Itunes then after some time, launched but I was not able to click on any buttons on the application and ctrl alt del shows itunes not responding.
Remember I was able to install and run itunes prior to formatting the system.
Since the re install, I have uninstalled, cleared cache, temp files, reg cleaner... re booted and re installed QT and itunes however I have the same issue after each time, whether it's 7.0 - 7.5 - 7.6 or which ever version.
I have no clue how to make this work again.
This system is a custom build editing monster that runs Avid liquid and Photoshop as well as other apps with ease, this is killing me.

I've been having this same problem. While trying to activate my new iPhone 4s, I into iTunes, it stoped midway through and completely jamed the whole computer. and I have to manually re-boot. It did this several times. I was able to activate it finally with telephone support. After several conversations with iTune tech support, I was told that iTunes l0.5 isn't compatible with XP, that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I should upgrade to 7. I don't want to upgrade to 7! I installed it 10.5 on a laptop we have with 7 and it installed, but I'm still having problems with it. When I try too rearrange the icons for my apps on the computer, I can't as they are greyed out.
It's kind of annoying that they advertise that it works with XP, but it really doesn't. Any chance of a fix?

ITunes problem recognizing and ripping CDs - Windows XP

I have two problems, probably related. The first is, iTunes only intermittently recognizes a CD when I insert one, sometimes requiring me to eject and reinsert several times. Sometimes it will suddenly notice the CD when I toggle back to iTunes from another program.
Once I've got the CD visible, I click Import. All goes well if I keep iTunes on top (making me hostage to the import process), or if I toggle away to another program and stay away. But if I return to iTunes in the middle of the rip -- poof! -- the import stops and the CD vanishes as if ejected.
This is iTunes 8 in Windows XP. Anyone know if there's a way to stop this?

it would be good to get a look at the blue screen information ... but i'm totally in sympathy with the idea of minimising the number of times your PC blue screens.
so let's also set up the PC to generate a minidump for the blue screen. (that way, if we don't get helpful info from the blue screen itself, we can send a copy of the minidump for the crash through to the Apple Engineers for a look. so we only have to "experimentally" blue screen the PC once more before we try fixing the problem.)
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.

ITunes - Vista - Can't Rip CDs... just makes 3kb files

I put in the cd, it finds the album info... it acts like it's ripping. Finishes all tunes in 5 seconds.
It is just making 3kb mp3 files. ??? Apple says it's a Microsoft problem. I believe them, but now what? TIA.

I'm a new iTunes user and am experiencing this exact same problem. Can't figure out how to fix it. Have you figured out how to resovle this?

ITunes locking up after changing external hard drives?

I recently got a new external hard drive, and moved my music from the old one onto the bigger new one. (They're both the same brand, so I know it's not a compatibility problem.) I seem to have everything loaded into iTunes fine, but when it goes through and tries to get the album artwork, or determine the gapless playback it freezes, and I can't even force quit it. The only way for me to close iTunes is to log out and log back on.
I've tried un- and reinstalling and that wasn't the answer. Any help/Suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I came across your post because, I have been having issues for a while with the same description, except that I am using separate partitions on my main drive.
What I noticed is that if I set my podcast downloads to go to my NTFS main partition, there is no lag... but the moment I set it to my FAT32 partition, the lag starts back up.
I believe that the issue is with the slooow write time to FAT32 in large drives. (And in my instance, the move command apple does to put the podcast, which writes to the FAT32 partition and removes the NTFS temp download) Do you see the same lag or alot shorter if the drive is formatted to NTFS?
I don't really have any space currently to format my partition to test the issue, but I the fact of the downloads speeding up when set to my NTFS main disk makes me think that this issue could be lessened by using FAT32.
a side note for me, I'm considering reformatting my drive to NTFS, after backing up due to the advancement of ntfs3g in linux, so this could solve my problem at least.
