ITunes locking up with Video Files

I have a 30gig iPod video. I have been buying some rather large Videos, I get them into iTunes no problem, but when I try to click and drag them over to my iPod in the source pane my PC locks up and I need to reboot. I also tried doing an automatic update to the ipod and the pod does not recieve the files. What's up?

Does your computer just hand there or ur itunes freezes? Since you say you have been buying large videos, this may cause your computer to hang for a while. Try it again and be patient. Maybe start it, have a snack or watch some tv or something and then check if it sends.

  • After upgrading recently I got this message: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." The music/video files are still on my MacBook Pro.  Is it because I'm still on 10.5.8?  How do I fix this?

For your reference I’m using a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8.  Several weeks ago on a Monday I received an upgrade for iTunes. When Tuesday arrived I attempted to log in so that I could download the latest freebie song(s).  I was met w/this message: “The file ‘iTunes Library.itl’ cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.”
The music/video files are still on my Mac (I’ve verified that via Searchlight), but I’m unable to open the program.  Since I know that 10.5.8 is rapidly becoming prehistoric, could it be that the newest iTunes isn’t compatible w/this particular OS?  I’d like to switch up, but understand that the newest OS won’t work on a Mac of this vintage (6 years old).  In addition, my Adobe products (all CS2) won’t work w/anything newer than 10.5.8, so I’m reluctant to go to a newer OS (I just can’t afford the Adobe upgrade $$$ @ this point).
Is there any way to get a download of an “old” iTunes version?  If there were, I’d simply refuse any future upgrades until my personal economy allows me to stop working as if it were 2006.  Please advise, somebody!

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

  • ITunes library not importing video files.

    Hi All,
I'm having trouble getting video files into my iTunes library on my Windows Home Server.
I have the latest version of iTunes running (10.5) on Windows Home Server - all working fine with music. However when I either drag, add through "Add File to Library" or putting the file in the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder.
The file either just doesn't add at all, or in the case of the "Automatically add to itunes" folder moves into the "Not added" folder.
I know that the video files I'm adding are okay because:
    - They play in QuickTime fine
      - A fresh install of itunes on another computer adds them fine and they appear in the Movies Library no problem.
I've tried fully uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes with the same result. If I create a totally new library - also results in the same problem.
Any ideas? Seems something about iTunes on my server (windows home server) is resulting in it having issues with video files - once again music is no problem at all.
    Many Thanks in advance.
    Stew

I wish i knew. It seems to be very random in which videos it doesn't add. Is it too much to ask to watch SNL clips on my iPod?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Quicklookd slowing down Leopard with video files

For some reason whenever I'm trying to open a folder with video files, add a video to a project or just open a video, I get the spinning beachball for quite a while before anything happens. This makes using iDVD impossible, Toast almost unbearable and general use of my mac quite annoying. Looking at processes on istat, quicklookd seems to be using 70-80% of the processor, sometimes higher. I could understand if I were using a slow computer but this is on my iMac Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz. The files tend to be .avi - either xvid or divx if that's helpful.
Would be enormously grateful for any advice. Thanks.

  • ITunes not importing any video files

I just had to re-install OS X from disc. After the install, I was thrilled everything was right where I left it. My iTunes library is on an external Hard Drive, and iTunes remebered to look there, and everything was perfect.
That is of course until I attempted to add a video file to my library. Nothing happens at all. No error message, no nothing. It just acts like I didnt ask it to do anything.
To test it out, I removed a video file that played just fine in iTunes from the library. Then, I attempted to add that SAME video file back - and nothing happened. When you try to open it, nothing.
I then tested audio and everything imported fine.
    PLEASE HELP!

I've got EXACTLY the same problem. This didn't happen until iTunes 7.
    WHAT HAS APPLE DONE??
I have spent three years transferring my own off-air TV shows to .mp4 files. I have hundreds and hundreds of hours of video in this format.
The format has always worked perfectly, and they all used to transfer to iTunes with no problem at all.
Now, however, all of a sudden dragging and dropping results in -- NOTHING.
No explanation, no warning -- iTunes just acts as though I haven't done anything.
The problem extends to my iPod with Video, too. I actually have about a dozen .mp4s on the iPod that still play absolutely fine.
But when I try adding another file JUST LIKE IT, I get a message saying that the video file "cannot play on this iPod."
I've tried converting these files to H.264 and to three other formats which my EyeTV app. says are optimized for the iPod. NOTHING.
WHAT HAS APPLE DONE TO iTUNES??? And why aren't more people up in arms about it??
More practically, can I solve the problem by deinstalling iTunes 7 and re-installing iTunes 6?
    Thanks.

  • ITunes not keeping my video files?

I have several .mp4 (video) files that I have put into my iTunes. After updating my iPod, I can view them once, and then after later updating my iPod with new music or video files (and not changing the previously added video files referred to previously), I can no longer access the video files on my iPod. This is weird because they are still in my iTunes. Is there a setting or something that I have overlooked in iTunes that I can change to prevent this?
Has anyone else encountered this problem or know of a solution?
    Thanks,
    WalMatt23

Load your IPOD and sheck the setting for
    Ipod Device > and> Music options;
Check the selection that best suit your preference.
See if this will correct your problem.

  • Album/playlist downloaded from iTunes includes mpeg-4 video file?

I have downloaded from iTunes an album that includes an mpeg-4 video file?  What is the best medium CD or DVD and format for burning the playlist?  Assume it could be played on a CD player (for sound only) or a DVD player.

Handbrake includes a universal setting which makes the video compatible with the iPhone/iPod, Apple TV, and with iTunes on your computer. It also includes an iPhone/iPod compatible setting.

  • Itunes locking up with new ipod

I have a ipod video and an older 20G, I just brought a 2G nano, and yes I have the updated 7.0 itunes. My itunes locks up every time that I place the newer nano onto the computer. I have restored the nano, and still nothing. Only thing that I can tell you is that the itunes is telling me that it is updating my nano everytime that I connect it. But it isn't. I have gone into an apple store and they told me to restore the nano and update to the 7.0 version of itunes. I have done this all and I would simply like to be able to go running with my nano~! Thanks for any help, really!

I don't know. I'm simply suggesting some troubleshooting steps to take. If you can isolate the fault to the iPod itself then you can go from there.

  • Issues with Video file types

I have videos on my computer and it says they are in a divx compression format with mp3 audio. I want to put them on my iPod, but iTunes won't recognise them. Do you know what types of video files can be recognised by iTunes and iPod and is there any way I can convert these videos so they will be recognised?

    From http://support.apple.com/specs/ipodhttp://support.apple.com/specs/ipod:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
iTunes doesn't recognize your video files because they are not in a file format and/or encoding scheme which it accepts.
Use the free MPEG Streamclip application to convert DivX-encoded AVI files into an iPod-acceptable format.
    Hope this helps,

  • I am having an issue with video file size increasing after editing in iMovie 11

So I start off my iMovie 11 video project with a .mp4 video file of roughly 900MB.  After chopping off the beginning and ending (which is all I want to do) I have attempted finalizing and exporting using numerous options.  The problem is, each time I do this my file turns into a 3.9GB .mov file!  I don't want a huge file, I don't want a changed format file.  I simply want to cut off the beginning and ending of my movie and leave everything else the same.  Theoretically, this should make the file SMALLER since I am removing footage.  Correct?
As  you can probably tell, I am new to all this.  But can anyone tell me how to keep my .mp4 file extension and simply delete the start and end?
    Thanks!

The simple answer is, Don't Use iMovie.
If you want to just trim off pieces you can do that in QuickTime X, which is already installed on your Mac. Open the movie in the QuickTime X player. Now go to the Edit Menu and choose Trim... At the bottom of the window you will see a series of thumbnail images with a yellow highlighted box around it. To cut off the beginng pull in the handle along the left hand side of the yellow box. Same is true for the end grab the yellow handle on the right side and pull it in as well. Then click the Trim button, now you've got just the piece of the video you want to save. Now go to File > Save As... set the Format to be Movie (to keep it in the same file format as it started as.
This avoids all the transcoding/conversion that goes on when you import a video into iMovie.

  • Help with video files

    Hi,
I have an IPOD 60GP Video, and when I add videos to it they are sometimes hidden...
I've found that if I tell iTunes that the video is a "TV Show" and I put it on the ipod, I can't see it.
If I put that same video to "Movie" or "Music Video" then i can see it in the ipod display, and view it.
Is there any way to be able to label it as a "TV Show" (I want to use this as misc. files) and still be able to view them on the ipod? It seems there should be since they only give you three options to classify a video as, and one is "TV Show"...
    Thanks

No, sorry. The only video files that can (will) be listed as TV Shows are TV Shows bought directly through iTunes; one's that are labeled as a TV Show by default.
    Hope this helps.

  • Flash SWF with Video file will not play in web page

    Hello Flash group,
I have created a flash video file from a *.wmv file.
    myvideo.flv.
I have used flash to build an swf file that plays the video
    (with a default skin).
I have then imported the media file into an html page using
Dreamweaver. I did not import the flv file, but the swf file with
    the "video" in it.
The page plays find on my development server (where
    Flash,Dreamweaver, etc is installed).
When I moved the html page, the flv file, the swf file and
the skin to my production webserver (linux and apache)
the flash files do not show up on the web page. The dev
server is a windows XP running apache 2.2)
Any ideas on what I need to do???
    thanks,
    eholz1

It may cause by any of the reason below:
    - You have uploaded the flv file to the wrong directory
    - Your flv file path/name is incorrect. check all case
    sensitive etc.
    - Your web server doesn't support FLV MIME type.

  • Work flow for syncing separate Audio files with Video files in FCP

It may be too late for me to use this workflow that I want with my current project, but I need to figure out what it is anyway for future reference.
Right now I'm editing a movie which is near completion. When we recorded the movie, the camera's deck recorded reference audio from the sound guy at 48k @ 16bit. This audio also went through an additional set of preamps which added a small amount of noise. So we don't want to use the reference audio because of it's low resolution and less clean audio. The sound guy recorded straight to his deck at 48k @ 24bit, besides the better resolution, his audio is noticeably better.
The camera deck and 'clapper' (I think that's what you call it) were not connected or synced. So the video files and the soundsguy's audio files are slightly different lengths, but at least have a 'clap sound' to manually sync to. And I don't mean that the audio and video files won't play in sync with each other, I mean that the soundguy always started recording before the camera, so his audio files have slightly different start and stop times.
Could I have synced the audio files with the video files before I started editing this project? If so, could it have been in the way that the soundguy's audio would be connected to my video files while editing? What would that procedure have been?
My current workflow right now is I have my finished sequence, I change the bit rate to 24 in Sequence Settings, and start manually dragging the soundguy's files to the sequence for every little edited clip. This is going to take forever, there are 99 scenes in this movie. Anyway, at the end of the day these sequences are exported as .omf files and imported into Pro Tools for audio post production.
I was not thinking to figure this out before I started editing the movie, this is unfortunate, a newb move in a decent production.
Anyway, I don't know if there is a standard for this situation or if I just opened up a can of worms for many possible workflows. Please comment if you have experience in this area or please refer me to any reading material.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty

The normal workflow (besides manually syncing up before editing!)
is to have ' some ' way of auto syncing the clips.
So you must have common timecode.
With external audio, you can slave the cam's TC to the TC output of the BWF recorder.
Then you can use BWF / QT merge (one of my apps) to sync them, or use Sync 'n Link.
    (another third party application)
If it is not possible cause you're shooting with a cam without a TC input, you can record the TC output on one of the audio tracks of your cam, and use FCPauxTC reader to decode the beeps and translate that to QT TC, and again use the former tricks to sync them.
It is difficult when you have never done it, but very easy once you get the hang of it, and it saves a huge amount of time to do it right from the start.
Have a look at the FCP aux TC reader here:

Sync 'n Link can be found here:
