Itunes locks up before completely transfering all songs to ipod

I recently had my 20G 3rd Generation replaced with a refurbished model through Best Buys service exchange program.
When I sync the new ipod to Itunes, it only transfers around 9 gb of songs (I only have 12 gb of music), then itunes just freezes.
After I disconnect the ipod, I see that only 500 mb of songs actually made it into the Ipod. What happen to the other 8.5 gb of songs that was suppose to be transfered?
After syncing the ipod for the second, third, and fourth time, only 500 mb is stored shown in the ipod, even though 6-8 gb of music was transfered before locking up.
#1. Why is itunes freezing up before completely transfering all 12 kb of songs?
#2. Where did the initial 8.5 gb go that supposedly transfered over to the Ipod before itunes locked up?

i have somewhat the same problem...
my ipod is the 4gen 20gig and it started to skip and pause and was getting progressively worse... i then attached it to my computer and it said something about it not being recognized and then i had no choice to reformat it and then would only transfer some songs and not all that i had dragged and dropped ... and then some songs would skip again and i would go thru it all again

Last summer I bought a music album from iTunes. I've already transferred all my purchases from my units, but somehow iTunes wants me to pay for the same album again. When I try to add it to my wish list it simply tells me that I've already bought that item.
And I've already tried to search for downloadable purchases.
So fact is established, I've purchased this album before but iTunes does not recognize it.
    What to do?

Hey sorry for the late response but I've been out of town.  I can copy and paste the email responses if necessary or desired, and if it's fixed already this is a moot point anyway, but basically they kept asking me for the order numbers for the two songs I already bought from the specific album I was trying to complete, which I eventually gave them - along with telling them multiple times that the Complete My Album feature wasn't working for ANY album.  They gave me two free song codes to compensate me for the two songs I bought, and then told me to go and buy the album at full price, but the ENTIRE TIME they COMPLETELY ignored that I was telling them that this wasn't an issue with one album but was a larger, seemingly systematic issue that other people were experiencing.  Even after I got the song codes I emailed them back and said AGAIN that this wasn't an isolated feature, and they just sent me the link to the apple Feedback page (http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html) and told me to submit my complaint there.  So, technically, my issue was never really "resolved," in that they never fixed the Complete My Album feature that I am aware of - or even acknowledged that anything needed fixing, but I haven't tested it since Sunday.
If it's working for you, then hopefully they fixed it!  I've noticed they've updated to 10.4.1, but the notes don't indicate they're fixing anything about the Complete My Album feature, so I don't know.

  • HT1351 When I import cds to itunes the albums do not contain all songs. If there are multiple artists or a duet, each song shows up as an album.

When I import cds to itunes, the albums do not contain all songs. If there is a duet, each duet is listed as a separate album.
As an example," Genius Loves Company" or "Tuskegee" each are listed as many albums---each album has a separate song.
I spoke to Apple Help and they were of some help, but did not answer the question.

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

    Hello there,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you would like to sync music to your iPhone, you will need to use iTunes on your computer, and then follow the directions in the article linked to below.

  • ITunes locks up after adding just 1 song

My upgraded, removed, and readded iTunes locks up after adding just one song. It just stops responding. Then I have to turn it on over and over again just to get music on the thing. Can someone help me?

There are lots of reasons why this might happen.
    One quick thing to check,
Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab > Importing tab
What's your setting for "use error correction when reading audio cds"?
Change it the other way of what it is now, and try importing again.

  • Itunes wont list all songs on ipod, only some of them

My itunes doesn’t list all the songs on my ipod, only some of them. (Only the ones uploaded after a certain date, when I think I forgot to eject my ipod one day).
The ipod definitely has all the albums I've ever uploaded on it. I know because I've tried looking on my friends’ computer and his DOES show all songs on my ipod.
Sounds like a PC problem, not an ipod problem, right? So I tried re-installing itunes, but that doesn’t fix it.
It’s not a bit deal, but it just means I can’t delete certain albums from my ipod.

How exactly are you trying to view this info.
Select the iPod as the Source. Do not select any of the playlists on the iPod, just select the iPod itself.
Any reason you are manually managing the iPod?

  • Itunes won't download all songs to ipod

Whenever I try to update or add more songs to my ipod it states that certain music could not be added to my ipod because my computer is not authorised to play those songs. But all of the songs that won't load are the ones I purchased from itunes music store. It's the same computer and nothing has changed. It happened after I bought a new album from the itunes music store. Any sugestions

Play the songs in iTunes first (just a few seconds) and then update the iPod.

  • Itunes not syncing all songs from ipod.

I just got a new laptop...downloaded itunes.....and plugged my ipod in. iTunes only took a few of the songs from the ipod? (55 out of 499) Why? Have no idea how to fix this

    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Itunes freezing and having to sync ALL songs again !!

    1. I sync 3200 songs from iTunes
    2. I listen on iPod
    3. I download 10 more songs into iTunes
    4. When I reconnect iPod it freezes iTunes and iTunes has to be shutdown
    5. Reopen iTunes
    6. Ipod is empty and ALL songs have to be synced again when all I want is to update with 10 new songs???
Any help is MUCH appreciated !!!

Quite possibly when iTunes got shutdown during sync is messed up files on iPod so that it looked empty. iTunes seeing an empty iPod proceeded to fill it up again.

  • Sync Shuffle on mac - stopping before being done all songs

    Hey,
Whenever I try syncing my new shuffle, with the setting to only sync marked titles, but to do so for all titles and playlists, it stops after a third of the songs and tells me it is done. It just doesn't sync all songs and I am really running out of ideas what else to try.
Has anyone else had that problem yet?

I've noticed this as well, syncing a 3-4 playlists and notice that the sync just stops after awhile. One potential reason why (I think) is that iTunes is counting the size of each playlist and saying "can this fit" without taking into account that the playlists might be containing the same songs.
For example I have three playlists: least played since last year, 50 songs just added, last two months - for a good portion of these playlists they contain the same tracks, however iTunes sort of goes "2gb + 2gb + 1gb = TOO MUCH", when theres actually only 3gb of tunes in total.
    I could be wrong thou...

  • ITunes locks up when trying to set up new iPod Touch

I just got a new computer that is 64-bit and runs on Windows 7...I downloaded iTunes today and set up an account and transfered purchased songs from my old iPod to my new computer. I plugged in my new 32g iPod touch and I am wanting to not register it. When I get to the screen that lets me name my iPod and check prefrences on what to sync I hit done and iTunes locks up. I have to go to task manager to shut it down. PLEASE HELP!!! I have had this iPod touch for a week and was waiting on new computer...got new computer but cant get iPod to work!!!

Yes, worth a try. It's probably worth doing a complete uninstall of all related programs too, prior to reinstalling iTunes. for instructions on that, see:
[Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923]
Note ... at the time of me making this reply, the instructions in there aren't quite complete for 64-bit systems. After step 14 of *Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled,* I'd also include the following two steps:
(14-1/3) Open the Common Files folder.
(14-2/3) Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
(There's a Common Files folder where Apple stuff is stashed in the program files folder as well as the Program files (x86) folder.)

  • All songs on iPod missing after store purchase - but they're still there!

    This is an odd problem.
I have a 30G ipod which I've been using trouble-free for a year. The other day I purchased a new album in iTunes and, when it had been downloaded, dragged it to my connected iPod within iTunes (I'm set to manual sync). It transferred fine; I ejected the ipod and went on my merry way. When I powered up the ipod later, the ONLY album/artist listed on the whole ipod was the new one I just downloaded. All my other (24GB) songs were MISSING. There were no errors reported by itunes, the ipod, or my computer. I'm using the recent itunes 6.0.4.2. Windows XP.
I've done this same thing (purchase songs, manually sync them to ipod) a thousand times before with no trouble. This is only the 3rd or 4th purchase I've made using the latest itunes version (with the new protection scheme) so I suspect it has something to do with that.
However when I access my ipod on my computer NOT through itunes (e.g. just as a USB storage device); I see all my songs still under the various music folders:
    <ipod>->
    iPod_Control->
    Music->
    F??
Where F?? are folders F00 to F49. All the song files are still there, and I also found the new songs mixed in (with the most recent modification times). Also, the ipod itself, while it only lists the 10 songs I added - says that it has 24GB of data on it.
Clearly an index somewhere is corruped and needs to be rebuilt. In the iTunes directory on the ipod, the "iTunesDB" file is only 268K - far too small for 24GB of music. But, this is ONLY on the ipod - all of my songs within itunes still show up.
I do not want to re-download or "restore" (wipe) my ipod; as I have many playlists that would be lost, and a fair amount of uncopyrighted mp3 files on the ipod which are long gone from my computer and hence would be some difficulty to restore from backups.
Is there any way to rebuild the ipod index (or fix this problem)??
    TIA!
    30GB   Windows XP   itunes 6.0.4.2

"Other" is songs etc that have become corrupted, so the iPod no longer knows what to do with them.
The usual fix for "Other" is to use iTunes to Restore the iPod (there's a button for it in iTunes). Since a Restore removes everything from the iPod (and restores the iPod to factory new), I suspect the only thing you can do is remove everything from the iPod and then put it back again.
