ITunes locks up during download

After I start iTunes, it locks up as soon as it starts downloading what I assume are podcasts I have subscribed to.
I can move the mouse but I can't select anything. If I start playing a song BEFORE downloads start, that song plays to its end, but the program is otherwise non-responsive. I have installed and reinstalled the latest software. I would cancel all my podcasts and never subscribe again if the program would let me get to iStore. I have no peding puchase downloads.

  • Itunes - Locks up during downloads

Whn trying to download a purchase my actiontech router keeps locking up and I have to keep resetting the router.  I have tried plugging another router into the actiontech, plugging straight into the actiontech and I keep get the same results.  If I don't download from itunes its fine.  I have tried it from two different operating systems (XP and Windows 7).

    Yes, no kidding.

  • ITunes locks PC during large downloads

This started happening about a month ago and there have been no major changes to my system (I've had this system for over a year).
PC running Windows Home 7 Premium 64 bit with SP1 and all available Microsoft updates installed.  iTunes is version 10.6.1
The sytem locks during downloads - usually they need to be large such a video podcasts and now a movie.  Downloads start and proceed at high speed to a point and then progress on the download stops and the indication of remaining time starts to go up.  For example, I was trying to download a 383MB video podcast and it flew along up to 62.1MB and showed 2 minutes remaining to complete in the status.  Then it went to 3, 4, etc.  After 2 minutes elapsed time, it was 7 minutes and after 20 minutes it was 2 hours. However, the indication of estimated completion time is the only thing on the system that is active.  The clock in the system tray stops almost immediately after the download progress stops nothing else is accessible - even Ctrl Alt Del and Ctrl Shift Esc do nothing,  The only thing I can do is physically power off and them it takes over 20 minutes to get back into iTunes as I have a large library (over 24000 songs and about 30 movies).
This has happen consistently in several locations with high-speed internet and I've tried turning off wifi and going hard wire.  Yesterday, I got a movie and the download to Flixster went fine and the iTunes download locked up.  I have removed and reinstalled iTunes and deleted the content in the download directory.  Also have unsubscribed and resubscribed to podcasts. Ideas on next steps would be appreciated.

Additional info - after 6 iterations of donwload/lock/reboot, I did successfully get the movie I bought (2.25GB of content) and it does play.

  • ITunes locking up during CD playback

Hello, I am running iTunes 7,5 with the new Leopard operating system. I notice now that when I'm listening to a CD in iTunes (one that I have not imported), every second song or so locks up iTunes. It seems to start the song for about 1 to 2 seconds and then locks up. All I get is the spinning disc icon and the only way to stop it is with a "alt, apple, esc.". When I do that, it comes up as iTunes (not responding) and closes it up.
I am then forced to reopen iTunes and go from there and have it happen again witthin 2 songs.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joel,
I've noticed the same thing (I'd just come here to post about it when i saw your message).
maybe it's not been noticed much yet because i presume more people play music from their libraries than from a CD…
it's happened on 2 CDs for me so far, and on both - the first track plays fine and then iTunes just stops after a few seconds of the second track (in album order). If i double-click another track, iTunes plays another second of the second track (not the one i clicked on) and then becomes unresponsive.
The first CD this happened with then disappeared from the desktop and i had to restart to get my Mac to realise it still had a disc in its' drive!

  • Ipod/itunes locking up during syncing

hi. i have an ipod video, and i had itunes 7 and it was working perfectly, until i plugged it into another computer to put a song onto it. i could still use the ipod, and i plugged it back into my home computer and used the program senuti to get the song that i had added from the other computer onto my home computer. this worked fine, and now i had the song i needed on my computer. i ejected the ipod and then plugged it back in. itunes launched like normal and began syncing, but then it stopped responding. i waited a while, and then force-quitted itunes. then i ejected my ipod from my computer and removed the cord, but i got the message "you have not removed the device properly" or something to that effect. now i have no songs on my ipod, but when i go into the about menu, it says that i have 20 gigs available rather than 27 or whatever it should be. now every time i plug in my ipod, itunes launches and starts syncing. however, at random points, itunes either stops responding or gives me a message that says that my ipod can't be read or written to. i updated to 7.1.1 or whatever the latest version is, and tried restoring my ipod, as well as the other 5rs, but it still doesn't want to work. i have no idea what to do now, as my ipod is out of warranty and all i can think of is that maybe the hardrive is damaged or something.
any help is appreciated, thanks, robert

You should check Windows update for Service Pack update, if there is any.
Otherwise, try to fix and update windows system filesas follows:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
Restart the computer if it did actually repair any files.
    Then do the download again.

  • I am trying to reset my 4th generation ipod touch via itunes (as I cannot remember parental controls code). In itunes it does a download but then says the software was corrupted during download. Itunes is up to date. Operating system is vista. Any ideas?

I have given my 4th generation ipod touch to my husband and he wants to download some in app purchases, so I am trying to reset it via itunes. I dont remember setting parental controls but I must have at some point, maybe when I lent it to the kids. But I cannot remember the password and nothing I have tried works. So I have backed the ipod up and am trying to reset it but after speding 10 minutes doing a download I get a message that says:
"The softwaar for the iPod was corrupted during download. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
I have tried many times. All the settings are correct, and the network seems to be working fine in all respects.
    Any advice very much appreciated.
    Thank you
UPDATE - decided to try one more time after trying for hours and it has worked! I now suspect it may have been because my son was playing an online game. Though we have plenty of bandwidth. But in case, I guess it could be a bandwidth problem.

A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (or if you forgot your passcode)
iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
If you need to restore your device or if you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to
             update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

If I have lost my music collection I will be switching platforms ASAP. It is insane that Apple has updates seemingly every day for their products.

I was in your same situation with 14 downloads and 14 attempts.
You have to make sure that your Mac is booting into 64 bit mode.  You can make sure of this by going into System Preferences and scrolling down to 'Software' and making sure that you are booding with 64 bit Kexts.
If not, restart while holding the 6 and 4 keys down until you see the spinning gear wheel and try installng again.
BUT, what I also did was to go into Applications, click on the Lion installer, Get Info, and give yourself custom priviliges to Read And Write.
I did this simultaneously, and I don't know what function did it, but it worked for me, with no further downloads of the installer.
    Good luck!

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from the music section of your iTunes library, close & then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked. This seems to help with partial downloads...
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
