  • ITunes stops working when I try to import missing music files

I don't know why, but every time I try to import missing music files into iTunes, a pop up suddenly comes up saying iTunes has stopped working. Does anybody know if it may just be a bug in the program or anything like that? Because of this, I am now having to manually reimport the missing files which takes forever!! Please help!!.

  • Itunes shuts down everytime I try to import a cd

Everytime I try to import a CD, my itunes says 'itunes has stopped working and is trying to fix the problem' then it goes striaght to another warning box that there is a problem and it closes down. I have run the diagnostic thing on itunes but that says everything is ok. My boss, who is quite good with itunes, had a look but he cant't figure it out.
We have had problems with our computers since changing to Windows 2010 64 bit - but so far my itunes has been fine - could this be related? Any help is really appreciated as not sure what to do!

Hi Ellie, first thing I'd try is to see if Windows Media Player can import a CD.
Right after you open WMP, make sure to check its settings so it will not mess up itunes. It is not a good idea to use 2 players that conflict with each other.
Except, in your case it is a good test to see if it is system-wide with your CD drive, or just an itunes bug.
You need to turn it off WMP controls in 4 places.
Player tab: everything unchecked so WMP won't touch your files
Library tab: everything unchecked, esp the box to retrieve info from the internet
Privacy tab: everything unchecked, esp the box to update files
Security tab: everything unchecked so web pages can't launch WMP in the background

  • ITunes Locks up when I try to play a video

I have purchased a few TV shows from the iTMS. Historically they have worked fine. I rented a movie a couple of days ago. I went to watch it and iTunes locked up after playing about 2 seconds of audio.
I have done the following trying to fix the problem but so far nothing has worked:
    1) I upgraded iTunes/Quicktime... as indeed there was an update available - Tried to play video again... it locked up... and had to terminate program.
    2) I deauthorized all computers... and the problem computer... and then reauthorized the problem computer - Tried to play video again... and it locked up the computer
    3) Playing all video content I've purchased/rented locks up iTunes.
So, I'd like to get this fixed. I have "23 hours" left to watch the movie I rented... but I can't watch it.

Did you get a suitable answer? I am having the exact same problem. I have been using iTunes for years and suddenly I began having this problem. I noticed it first with videos but it also happens with music. A movie will play for about 4-5 sec and then lock up. The spinning time thing comes on. If I wait long enough, it will finally go away and the movie will play, although often with jerks. I removed and reinstalled iTunes. That did not help. Then I removed everything from iTunes and built a new library. That did not help either. I can play any of these same files from Quicktime without a hitch. In fact, that is what I do now to play a movie. I use iTunes to find a movie, then use the Command-R to show it in the finder, then load it in Quicktime. So it is not the files or the hard drive. It is iTunes.

  • Since I updated iTunes locks up when I try to sync.

I have an old 5th Gen iPod classic and made the mistake of updating iTunes. Now when I try to sync iTunes
totally freezes...I can't even end task it and have to cut power to close it. It is obviously a problem with the iTunes
software since the ipod still plays fine. I just can't load any more music on it and Apple ***** for support. Last time
I buy one of these. Anyways, does anyone know where to get older iTunes Software?

    Hi,
The only way to gat an older copy of iTunes is through a third party site. Try to Google some. Hope this helps.

  • ITunes locks up when I try to update or restore iPod from iTunes 7

I have tried several times to update my iPod to version 1.2 using the new iTunes 7 interface - the one click "easy" option. Everytime I do I get nowhere - iTunes 7 locks up and that's it. I thought I'd try to restore the iPod and start from there. Same thing happens, though; it locks up and I'm done. I get no error messages.
Based on many posts I've read, I'm not sure it's a good idea to even upgrade to version 1.2.
Anyone else having this issue? Any advice?
    Thanks!

I am posting a possible solution to all these problems I and so many of you have said you've experienced. I think I had two things working against me:
    1) I did not have a 2.0 USB port when trying to update my ipod to version 1.2. I think this effected the connection and iTunes ability to recognize my iPod.
Anyway, I put in a new USB 2.0 card in my computer, giving me new ports off the mother board, and my connection and update worked.
    2) I was not giving it enough time. After I installed the USB card and everything I tried to update my iPod a couple of times, but still had a long slow stall that I did not wait through. I kept at it though and a few days later I set it up to update and left to go out to dinner. Hours late I came back and found things different. I used windows to disconnect my iPod and then noticed a dark "working" bar on my iPod. It was finally updating the device. I waited a while unitl it was finished and then diconnected and ever since then I've got version 1.2 on the iPod and things are working better.
So, my advice: check your USB ports and then give it a few hours.
I really hope this works for you. I worked on this problem for two months and I'm so glad it finally came through. I wish Apple would post some more resolutions that are better than mine.
    Good luck,
    Galahad

  • ITunes locks up when I try to add to a playlist

I'm using iTunes 11.0.4.4 on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.  Until this version, I have had no trouble with playlists, but after I downloaded this version, I can't edit one particular playlist.  When I press the Add button, it thinks a while and then iTunes announces that it has had a problem and has to shut down.  I've tried it in Safe Mode as well, with the same result.  The playlist is very large (9000+ songs), and I assume that's at least part of the problem since the smaller ones don't have the same issue.  However, even the large one did not cause a problem until this version.  Can anybody help?

Did you get a suitable answer? I am having the exact same problem. I have been using iTunes for years and suddenly I began having this problem. • ITunes does nothing when I try to Import

    Hello,
I have tried to import several songs into ITunes with extensions of wma and CDA. I have tried dragging and dropping them into my library and I have also tried "Adding them to my Library" as well, but neither approach works. I don't receive an error message. The computer just doesn't do anything. When I drop the file into my library, nothing happens. When I choose a song to "Add to the Library", the dialog box disappears, but nothing else happens. I have the latest version of the software. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Hello:
I actually am having a similar problem to the one described above, except that it is with an mp3 file. It is a file I received attached to an email. It downloaded successfully, and appears on my Desktop and all that. I have tried adding it using "Add to library" as well as dragging and clicking, and nothing happens. It does not appear in the library. Any thoughts on why this might be, or how to open the file, would be much appreciated!
    Thank you so much,
    Carol-Irene

  • ITunes getting "stuck" when I try to import my CD's

I see a lot of forums on this, but no clear answers. Has anyone found an answer?

  • Every time I try to import a CD I get "iTunes has stopped working"

I updated to the new 9.0.3.15 version of ITunes a couple of weeks back and ever since I have not been able to import CD's?
It seems it works with every else syncing etc but not importing CD's.
Every time I try to import a CD it will start then within a few seconds I get the message "iTunes has stopped working" and another message saying Windows is looking for a solution.
I have tried going into Control Panel and Programs and repairing the installation but no luck.
Anyone know how I can fix this.

I can see messages for other programs that have had issues but nothing for iTunes.
    Hmmmm.
Maybe try provoking the error another two or three times, taking a careful note of the time showing on the PC. Now head back into the Action Center. Is there a problem report for any application or operating system component that appears regularly at the same time as the iTunes errors?
If so, paste a copy of a typical error report for that in a reply. (Fingers crossed that might get us a bit closer to understanding what is afoot.)

  • Computer freezes when I try to import a cd into itunes...

I just recently got a Macbook Pro, and I am having a problem when I try to import a cd that I burned previously. When I put in a cd the computer freezes and the cd won't play and Itunes will not work at all. I have to restart the computer to get anything to work. I burned the cd on a Windows computer, and the cd works fine there. The cd's I am using are brand new with no scratches. I don't think I should have to restart the computer every time I try to import a cd. I hope I can get some help on this matter.

I'm having the same problem, except the CD I last inserted will not eject. It gave me the option to force eject the CD and I did. But the CD didn't come out...and a message popped up saying it was successfully ejected. Now the little icon doesn't come up when I press the eject button and the computer says there is no CD in the drive but the CD is still in there. I have had this Mac for about 4 and 1/2 hours now.

  • I'm using Windows 8.  I have 2 folders in my videos library - movies and personal videos.  When I try to import a movie into iTunes, it puts it in the Home Video section and if I import a personal video, it puts it into the home video section.  what up?

Im using Win8.  I originally had all my ripped movies in a movie folder listed in the videos library.  This imported into iTunes movies with no issue.  I later added a second folder t my library - personal videos where i put all my home videos.  I was able to import this into iTunes and it showed up in "Home Movies" - very cool and exactly what I wanted.  Now, if I add a new ripped movie and put it in my movie librairy and try to import it into iTunes, it places it in Home Movies.  And if I put a new personal video, it will also import into iTunes under 'Home Video?.  What is going on here??  Any help would be greatly appreciated - it seems like this is a bug in iTunes 11.

I thank you for the response.  Apple does some assinine things sometimes and this is one of them.  Ask the planet the difference between a movie and a home video and with the exception of Apple, you'd get 100% consenus on the what difference is.  A home video is something that I shoot, like my kids birthday party.  A movie is something I urchased either via download or a DVD that I ripped.  Unbelievable!   The fact that Apple has chosen not to distinguish based upon which folder I tell it is Movies and which folder is Home Videos is really hard to fathom - sounds like something Windows would do. I find it funny that in my iTunes movies sub-section of the movies section, the movie icons have a cloud icon in upper right corner to distinguish it as bought from Apple iTunes versus no cloud icon for movies that I have ripped - so the distintion was already made and clearly visible.  Now - everything just defaults to "home videos" if I try to import a new ripped DVD - why even bother to have this distinction on the iTunes bar?  WOW!
As for your direction, I do not understand what you are telling me - what Media Kind and what Options tab are you referring to?  I see no Options tab in iTunes.  Right licking on the movie icon does not yield media kind or options as well.  Gping to the source file does not yield these options either.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Gracenote no longer works on my iTunes when I try to import an audio cd.

When I try to import a cd to iTunes, it shows a "Audio CD" even if I am online. No more Gracenotes titles. All tracks come up as "Track 01", Track 02", etc. I now have to manually type in all track titles. Any clues? Thanks.

Yes, Limnos, I've check-marked 'get track names when inserting a CD' in Preferences, and I'm loading common, popular cds. Interestingly, gracenotes worked fine on OS 10.4.11 until I upgraded my iMac to 10.6.7.
