  • ITunes locks up every time I load my library

I just spent the last couple days creating my iTunes library to include only the music I want from my hard drive. I also spent a lot of time changing genres, artist names, etc, so I don't have a huge list of artists on my iPod. I was just about finished when I added another music folder and iTunes locked up. Now every time I open iTunes it instantly locks up. If I remove my library and start over it work fine. I tried importing my library (after moving it to the desktop) and iTunes locks up again.
Is that it for my library and so many hours of work? Is the iTunes database that fragile or is there any way to recover it? I am not used to working with apple software and hence have never lost this many hours of work before. I'm hoping there is something I can do. Is there another program I can use to open the library file with besides iTunes to figure out what's wrong with it? The apple support says to just start adding the files back one at a time, but that is the same thing as starting all over. And even if I did that, what's to say it wouldn't just happen again part way through?
If anyone has any ideas I would very much appreciate it, I'm very frustrated right now.

I suspect that one folder had a bad file that itunes couldn't deal with.
Do you remember which one it was? You could create a new blank library and try adding just that folder and see if it locks up again, then you'd know to look at those files and see if they play in another player or something.
This kind of thing is difficult to help with over the internet.

  • ITunes locked up while Transferring Purchases

    iTunes version 10.1.2.17, iPad 3G 64M version 4.2.1
Several months ago I purchased several videos on my iPad. Most worked fine, but one of them locked up the video application on the iPad. When selected, it just went to a blank black screen and does nothing. Now the video application doesn't work it all, it just goes directly to a blank black screen.
I tried everything I can think of, reset, reboot, and I even re-purchased the video in question to see if it would clear things, but nothing worked.
I then tried to sync so I could re-install, but during the sync iTunes locks up on the same video (3 of 10) and even after waiting 24 hours, it was still stuck at the same spot.
Anyone have an idea how to get past this without loosing the other content I purchased?
    Thanks in advance,
    scotto

    Hi,
Follow the instructions here to restore the iPad.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
After it's restored, you can redownload purchased content. From the iTunes menu bar click Store / Check for Available Downloads then sync the content to the iPad.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • ITunes Locks up

I just received my iPod Touch 64G. FYI - you probably want to give this product a skip. I am using the latest version of iTunes with my iPod 5G, no problems. I hooked up my new Touch and iTunes failed, saying reload Quicktime. After several iterations of unloading and reloading, iTunes FINALLY launched without error. Every time I start copying my iTunes library to the iPod Touch, iTunes locks up solid. After shutting down and restarting iTunes 11 times, I finally got 9 Gb of mp3's copied over. What a piece of junk. Is it worth it.....NO! The Touch is NOT ready for prime time. Over priced and under engineered

  • Can't sync more than once - iTunes locks up

For 3 days now I have been having problems with iTunes. In each case, I have been able to sync once and then iTunes locks up and becoames completely unresponsive. The only error message I get is not from iTunes, but from Windows XP OS saying something about a delayed write failed, then... iTunes comes to a screaching halt.
I believe this has something to do with the library, as I was able to get iTunes back up and running by deleting the library completely, reimporting all my music, recreating all my play lists and then resyncing.
After hours of doing all this, I got one successful sync and then it locked up again!
I have tried 2 different computers with the same results.
Am I alone on this one? Is anyone else having this problem. I see a lot of listings for something about a " -500 Library error", but I do not get this message. Is it the same problem but for some reson the error isn't getting thrown?
    TIA
    John

Hard to believe no one else is having this problem. I talked to an Apple tech at the store on Saturday and he suggested brining my machine into the store and they could see if they could fix it. Problem is, it's buried in my entertainment center and there all kinds of wires going everywhere. Just to get it disconnected and to the store would be at least 2 hours of my time.
Hasn't anyone else had this problem?

I've reset the firewall "outbound rules" as suggested in the help after the diagnostic test.  This only allows me to enter the store but upon initiating log out iTunes locks.  I've used the "netsh winsock reset" (as suggested here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15905544#15905544) to no avail.
    Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks for the response.  Following the instructions in that article produces the following information.  Very close to what is described in the article but the names differ (IPv6 vs. IP) and a total of eight rather than 10 values.  I can't see any LSP interfering with this . . .
I've updated my Norton AntiVirus without effect.  Interestingly the firewall "inbound rules" shows one for iTunes even when the connectivity test fails.  If I delete the existing and create a new rule it will work only until I try to log out the current user.  Then the party is over.
    Any other ideas?

  • ITunes locking up only for my iPod

I have had this iPod for about two years now, never had any issues. But for the last month or so, any time I try to drag a new playlist onto the iPod, its hit or miss if its going to work or not. It will do some songs fine, then just stop on one and freeze, then after a while I decide to look at its not responding. I do the same with my Wife's iPod, and it has no issues. When I plugged in my iPod about an hour ago, it said it could not be read (even though I was just listening to it!) and had to be restored. Okay, fine, I restore it, start putting music on it again, get to about 75%, iTunes locks up again, reboot itunes, iPod cannot be read, blah blah blah, eject iPod, oh look, its still blank. So it didn't even put the 50 playlists it supposedly put on before it locked up, nothing. Now its telling me AGAIN that it cannot be read and has to be restored AGAIN. Two restores in less than an hour, what the ****.
So, what the **** is wrong with this crap? With how much I paid, the iPod should certainly last more than 2 years. I now have basically a useless brick. I have Windows 7 Professional, 32 Bit, fully up to date. Fully up to date iTunes and iPod software. What is going on.....

I USED to be able to get a playlist or two, I had gotten 5 GB of music back on it by putting 1-2 playlists on, ejecting, plugging back in, rinse, repeat. Now iTunes locked up AGAIN, checked the iPod, NO MUSIC. Really glad I bought this ******* piece of **** two years ago! Totally worth my money!
Now, on top of all this, I find this in the help section.
    Symptoms
You may notice the following symptoms on your Windows PC after installing the iCloud Control Panel, iTunes 10.5 or later, or Safari 5.1 or later:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    iTunes is slow to respond.
    Windows is slow to respond.
iTunes stops responding when backing up or syncing with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Oh, so you mean that since you guys released 10.5, (and its now up to 10.6.??) people have had this issue of their iTunes not responding? What the ****. So basically since 10.5 people have had their iTunes not working correctly? Fix this crap.
I already did the LSP check thing, only one besides the apple one are two windows ones that are up to date and should be there. There is no other help to be had. What a joke.

  • ITunes locking up constantly

I'm a new iPod and iTunes user and all of my software is current. I've been ripping my CD collection to my hard drive and now I want to copy many of those songs to my iPod. Unfortunately whenever I attempt to do so, whether manually or via auto-synch, iTunes locks up and I need to kill it via Vista.
I've tried all suggestions and none of them work. Any other ideas? At this point I'm ready to uninstall iTunes and return the iPod and all accessories.

  • Itunes locking up when syncing phone

Since upgrading to the most recent version of itunes I've had a problem trying to sync my iphone 3g. The software is utd on the phone as well. As on as I plug the phone in itunes starts up, (auto sync is turned off) and about 15 seconds later itunes locks up and thats it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 3 times now with the same result. Each time I follow the multistage procedure of deleting the various itunes sections 1 at a time and then confirming the delete. The phone and itunes work fine separately. Together, not so much. Any thoughts?????

You have to uninstall iTunes 9.** and re-install 8.2.1.
Here is a link for your convenience (windows).

    Here is the mac version:

Hope this helps, I know it did for me. Let's just hope Apple will get off their A** and fix this problem soon.

  • Itunes locking up with new ipod

I have a ipod video and an older 20G, I just brought a 2G nano, and yes I have the updated 7.0 itunes. My itunes locks up every time that I place the newer nano onto the computer. I have restored the nano, and still nothing. Only thing that I can tell you is that the itunes is telling me that it is updating my nano everytime that I connect it. But it isn't. I have gone into an apple store and they told me to restore the nano and update to the 7.0 version of itunes. I have done this all and I would simply like to be able to go running with my nano~!
