ITunes locks up on Windows

iTunes is now locking up on Windows.  I have to use task manager to shut it down.  How do I get iTunes working again?

  • Itunes locks up in Windows XP with Iphone  HELP!!!!

    Hi,
I recently started having a problem with Itunes 7.5 locking up when I try to sync photos to my iphone. It will not release no matter how long I wait. I have to ctrl/alt/delete to free the system. This happens all the time but only on one computer. Any ideas.

    kennethfouch,
Does the same thing happen when you sync only photos (no other info)?
If so, try creating a new user account and syncing the same photos. If the issue persists, try syncing a different batch of photos. If the second batch of photos sync, then there is an issue with one or more of the pictures you are trying to sync. If it will not even sync the second batch of photos, try some of the system-wide troubleshooting in this article:

    Hope this helps,

  • Itunes locks up on a dell running windows XP

I have a Dell XPS410 and everytime I try and drag in a mp3 file itunes locks up and basically freezes my computer. If I put in a cd the tracks come up and also plays. I have re_installed itunes 3 times.
up to a week ago though it took a while for the files to load into itunes it worked. I have not loaded any new software since.
    any help would be welcome

Instead of dragging the mp3 into iTunes, have you tried adding the file?
In iTunes top line: File>Add file to library
Then browse to the mp3 location on your computer and push add. Does this work better?

  • ITunes locking up as soon as it starts after updating it, please help.

My iTunes updated to the latest update last night. When it restarted, it immediatly comes up with the "Updating iTunes Library" window in front of iTunes and gets half way there and freezes. I cannot close it or do anything except close it out with Task Manager in Windows Vista. Then, iTunes, on it's own, keeps starting itself back up over and over and over with the same result. It loads as if I had clicked it to start and I have not, and before I can try to click anything, the "Updating iTunes Library" window comes up and it freezes again. I have to go into task manager and keep closing out iTunes as it keeps starting itself up over and over as if someone was clicking it and trying to start it, but if I leave it alone, it just sits there locked up and frozen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and it does the exact same thing. Is anyone else having this issue or is there anyone that can help me?

I have almost the same issue:
After update of iTunes, starting up iTunes will result in a lockup with a window telling you it is updating the iTunes library.
Running Windows 7, 64 bit, US.
iTunes version 10.whatever (I wish I could tell, but it locks-up).

  • ITunes Freezing Everything on Windows 7 PC

Anyone have a solution for this issue?
    Here's the breakdown:
iTunes istalled on PC purchased 48 hours ago.
    iTunes randomly freezes up
Virues, etc checked - none present
All updates present (as far as I can tell)
    Uninstall/Reinstall not helping
CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work to shut down when frozen
Songs in playlist continue to play even after freeze
Cannot utilize ANYTHING else on PC after iTunes locks up
Have to to a hard reboot each time this happens
Note - all iTunes functions work fine until the freeze, then everything is a no go
Please, Apple, HELP ME and all the other Win7 users experiencing this issue. These errors are devaluing your product...and I love my "i" products.

    Apologies for the delay.
I'd first try excluding the itunes library and content files from any realtime scans by your Norton. The default location of the relevant folder to exclude (on a Windows 7 system) is:
    C:\Users<YourUserName>\My Music\iTunes
Any improvement with the freezing trouble?

  • HT4528 My Iphone4 is no longer opening in iTunes.  I have Windows 7.  I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes and also added updates to my iPhone.  What should I do?

My iPhone used to work in iTunes but quit working.  I checked my USB portal and it works with other devices.  I also uninstalled and re-installed iTunes.  I added updates to my phone and re-booted it.   I am not sure what else to do.  My iPhone also locked in vertical position and no longer goes to horizontal.

Maybe it would have been a better idea to confirm that iTunes is supported in Windows 8 before buying a computer with that Operating System.
There will be a new version of iTunes released this month... no one forced you to upgrade prior to a supported version of iTunes being released.

  • My Itunes locks when I connect my Ipod classic. I have the latest version of Itunes as of 10/31/11.  Any fixes???

My Itunes locks when I connect my Ipod classic.  I have the latest version of Itunes as of 10/31/11.  Anyone have any fixes?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Can't sync more than once - iTunes locks up

For 3 days now I have been having problems with iTunes. In each case, I have been able to sync once and then iTunes locks up and becoames completely unresponsive. The only error message I get is not from iTunes, but from Windows XP OS saying something about a delayed write failed, then... iTunes comes to a screaching halt.
I believe this has something to do with the library, as I was able to get iTunes back up and running by deleting the library completely, reimporting all my music, recreating all my play lists and then resyncing.
After hours of doing all this, I got one successful sync and then it locked up again!
I have tried 2 different computers with the same results.
Am I alone on this one? Is anyone else having this problem. I see a lot of listings for something about a " -500 Library error", but I do not get this message. Is it the same problem but for some reson the error isn't getting thrown?
    TIA
    John

Hard to believe no one else is having this problem. I talked to an Apple tech at the store on Saturday and he suggested brining my machine into the store and they could see if they could fix it. Problem is, it's buried in my entertainment center and there all kinds of wires going everywhere. Just to get it disconnected and to the store would be at least 2 hours of my time.
Hasn't anyone else had this problem?

I've reset the firewall "outbound rules" as suggested in the help after the diagnostic test.  This only allows me to enter the store but upon initiating log out iTunes locks.  I've used the "netsh winsock reset" (as suggested here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15905544#15905544) to no avail.
    Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks for the response.  Following the instructions in that article produces the following information.  Very close to what is described in the article but the names differ (IPv6 vs. IP) and a total of eight rather than 10 values.  I can't see any LSP interfering with this . . .
I've updated my Norton AntiVirus without effect.  Interestingly the firewall "inbound rules" shows one for iTunes even when the connectivity test fails.  If I delete the existing and create a new rule it will work only until I try to log out the current user.  Then the party is over.
    Any other ideas?

  • ITunes locking up only for my iPod

I have had this iPod for about two years now, never had any issues. But for the last month or so, any time I try to drag a new playlist onto the iPod, its hit or miss if its going to work or not. It will do some songs fine, then just stop on one and freeze, then after a while I decide to look at its not responding. I do the same with my Wife's iPod, and it has no issues. When I plugged in my iPod about an hour ago, it said it could not be read (even though I was just listening to it!) and had to be restored. Okay, fine, I restore it, start putting music on it again, get to about 75%, iTunes locks up again, reboot itunes, iPod cannot be read, blah blah blah, eject iPod, oh look, its still blank. So it didn't even put the 50 playlists it supposedly put on before it locked up, nothing. Now its telling me AGAIN that it cannot be read and has to be restored AGAIN. Two restores in less than an hour, what the ****.
So, what the **** is wrong with this crap? With how much I paid, the iPod should certainly last more than 2 years. I now have basically a useless brick. I have Windows 7 Professional, 32 Bit, fully up to date. Fully up to date iTunes and iPod software. What is going on.....

I USED to be able to get a playlist or two, I had gotten 5 GB of music back on it by putting 1-2 playlists on, ejecting, plugging back in, rinse, repeat. Now iTunes locked up AGAIN, checked the iPod, NO MUSIC. Really glad I bought this ******* piece of **** two years ago! Totally worth my money!
Now, on top of all this, I find this in the help section.
    Symptoms
You may notice the following symptoms on your Windows PC after installing the iCloud Control Panel, iTunes 10.5 or later, or Safari 5.1 or later:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    iTunes is slow to respond.
    Windows is slow to respond.
iTunes stops responding when backing up or syncing with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Oh, so you mean that since you guys released 10.5, (and its now up to 10.6.??) people have had this issue of their iTunes not responding? What the ****. So basically since 10.5 people have had their iTunes not working correctly? Fix this crap.
I already did the LSP check thing, only one besides the apple one are two windows ones that are up to date and should be there. There is no other help to be had. What a joke.

  • Itunes locking up when syncing phone

Since upgrading to the most recent version of itunes I've had a problem trying to sync my iphone 3g. The software is utd on the phone as well. As on as I plug the phone in itunes starts up, (auto sync is turned off) and about 15 seconds later itunes locks up and thats it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 3 times now with the same result. Each time I follow the multistage procedure of deleting the various itunes sections 1 at a time and then confirming the delete. The phone and itunes work fine separately. Together, not so much. Any thoughts?????

You have to uninstall iTunes 9.** and re-install 8.2.1.
Here is a link for your convenience (windows).

  • Itunes locking up with new ipod

I have a ipod video and an older 20G, I just brought a 2G nano, and yes I have the updated 7.0 itunes. My itunes locks up every time that I place the newer nano onto the computer. I have restored the nano, and still nothing. Only thing that I can tell you is that the itunes is telling me that it is updating my nano everytime that I connect it. But it isn't. I have gone into an apple store and they told me to restore the nano and update to the 7.0 version of itunes. I have done this all and I would simply like to be able to go running with my nano~!
