ITunes - Log Songs played via local and streamed

Is it possible to log this information in an XML or other format? I like some songs I hear on Internet Radio, but I can never remember what they are, so I wanted to start logging them. I know its possible to do so, because Windows Live Messenger and Adium pull song information from iTunes and display it on their end, so it should be possible to pull via the same method, and dump in a XML or other format file. Thanks, null_x86

you may be suffering from _*wireless interference*_.
if you have a cordless phone, try to turn that off for troubleshooting purposes. enabling bluetooth on your computer can be another culprit.
or it maybe that your neighbor's networks are the source for interference.
download iStumbler (free) or AirRadar (it has a trial period) and note the channels other networks in your vicinity are broadcasting on. change the channel(s) of your network as far away as possible from those.
another, more powerful tool, would be KisMac. however, be aware that in some countries the use of KisMac may not be legal !

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Delete the songs and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

i don't have any experience with DLNA TV's but i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. streaming content to airport express remote speakers and TV2 works great. however, i have all my gear hardwired to my time capsule (except the airport express) so i'm not sure how well streaming e.g. HD movies to TV over wifi works.
i have a Synology DiskStation 411j and am very happy with it.

  • I just download an album into iTunes, all songs play fine on iPad, iPhone, but on my Mac there is one song that only plays 10 seconds and then skips to the next song.  How do I download onto my Mac again?

I just downloaded an album into iTunes, all songs on album play fine on iPad, iPhone, but on my Mac there is one song that stops 10 seconds into it and then moves to my next song.  Can I download this song again?  How?

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over a number of days.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • I recently upgraded from an iphone 4 to a 4s, but now all songs purchased from iTunes will not play via my phone. Any idea how to fix this problem?

I upgraded from an iphone 4 to a 4s, after a few initial problems and two restores, everythings seemed to be working...until I went to play some music, all music loaded to itunes via CD's played, but ALL purchased music from itunes does not play...i click on the song and the screen flashes to the image then goes back to the list of songs, so the purchased music shows up...just does not play.  Can anyone help resolve this problem? Thanks!

here is an interesting thing: take the iphone and set lock screen to never. Now make an email with siri--be sure to activate her with call button. get to the body and get some text in there. then just stop talking. LOCK SCREEN APPEARS!!!!!! and of course you draft is gone.
There does seem to be a work around for some--maybe all these issues. Don't use the call button--use the buttons on the phone.
Siri seems to behave properly with scenerio above---sans call button. She does not go to lock.

  • Itunes  - highlight song playing

Ever since I upgraded to the new version of iTunes, I been having a problem.
Before, if I select a song, and play its full duration, and it goes to the next, it would highlight the song playing.
Now, when it goes to the next song, it wont highlight it, instead it will keep the highlight on the previous song. I know it shows the blue speaker next to the song playing, but thats not my concern.
Like if its on shuffle, I want it to play the next song, as well as highlight it, so i can see in the bottom left box whats playing.
The old itunes did this, but not 9.0.

so i can see in the bottom left box whats playing.
At the top of the artwork box, click the text and it will change from *Selected item* to *Now playing*.

  • When I search for an artist in itunes, the songs will pop up and then the page goes blank?

When I search for an artist in itunes, the songs pop up briefly, but once the page loads completely, the page goes blank.

I'm having the same difficulty.  I'm running Windows Vista with iTunes 9.0.3.15.  iTunes opens up just fine and I can get to the Store's homepage, but when I try and search for a song, the results just flash on the page for 2 seconds and then it's all gone....I'm left with one big, empty box.  If I'm quick, sometimes I can click on a random song and I can hear the sample played, but then it's gone again while the song is playing.
Guess I won't be buying anything more from iTunes...
Tried to ask about this problem here:  http://www.apple.com/ca/support/itunes/contact.html
I'll post any response I receive.
Maybe you can try contacting them too to see what they have to say?

  • What is the best format for itunes music to play via Airport Exress

    Hi,
My entire music collection on my itunes was either ripped from CD or purchased from itunes store.
I currently have the latest version of itunes software.
I stream my airtunes via ethernet (Devolo plugs one plugged into my router - the other downstairs plugged into my AX via ethernet cable)connected to electricty circuit, connected to my AX (802.11g) connected to a very good quality amp and speakers (all bi -wired cabling from amp to speakers).
Not all the time but there are certain songs that sound "tinny" to me, the music overshadows the lyrics and I need to play the tune quite loud just to get any feeling for the song. Jazz music also seems overly complex for the airtunes even when purchased from itunes. I was wondering if there is a specific file type or setting that would improve the sound quality ?
I'm not an aficionado but i would have thought there was enough quality to create a decent sound and I'm sure I have not set something up properly.

The editor of Stereophile magazine has tested an AE, and found that it was capable of bit-accurate output. For example, if iTunes has a 16/44.1 file, you will get an exact replica of that file streaming digitally via the AE.
Having said that, they have also concluded that Apple Lossless Compression is also bit-accurate. As such, if you were to rip your CD's using ALC, you will get a perfect digital copy when streaming through an AE. They will of course take up much more space than AAC or MP3.
I have just added a AE to my network, and find that the sound (when using its optical output) is exceedingly good when using ALC based files.
One additional bit of information though is that they tested the analog outputs of the AE, and in terms of the lab measurements found them to be poor. Lab measurements and what you actually hear may not always agree, but since the digital output is essentially transparent to the source, that is the route I have taken.
As for your situation, music purchased from iTunes is, at best, 256K AAC. Fine for ear buds, but probably not suitable for playback over a proper stereo system. And if you have left iTunes at its default settings, you are using 128K AAC for rips from your CD's. Again, quite unacceptable for serious listening.
The settings for importing are found at iTunes Preferences/Advanced/Importing. I would suggest making some test rips of the same music at different settings, including Apple Lossless, and see how those sound over your equipment.

  • ITunes purchased song plays in iTunes but not on iPod

I have purchased several songs from the music store. One of the songs will play in iTunes but not on my iPod. I've removed the song several times from the iPod and resynced with iTunes, but the song still cuts out in the middle of the song. What should I do?

If it's just a problem with that song, I would contact the customer service who may authorize another download.

  • Networking a PS3 via medialink and streaming .mt2?

i've been looking around this and other forums and i think what i am attempting is just not possible with the playstation 3, but i am not clear as to the reason why.
i have been playing around with my macbook's hd capture programs (specifically dvhscap, avcvideocap) and it's been creating .m2t files that play great on vlc player. i was amazed to see the files showing up in my PS3 browser via medialink; however, while the HD clips start out smooth and even with the proper 5.1 audio, after a few seconds the playback becomes consistenty stuttery.
i know there are issues with file size but these are very small test clips, and i'm wondering why it's even seeing/playing the files at all. it seems like i should be one small step away from being able to stream .m2t files successfully over my network but i can't figure out what might be happening. (FYI i have not experimented with putting the files onto the ps3 hard drive because i have limited space left on there and know i could never use the internal drive as a practical media server).
    thanks
    oleus

that looks pretty cool. in the specs it says it plays .m2ts, do you know if it plays .m2t (no "s")?
i've had no problem streaming HD 720p wirelessly via apple tv, but i have a wireless G network. i wonder if switching to wireless N like you have would allow smoother 1080i streaming for me...
PS i don't think the file type is to blame at all on the ps3 since i was able to play it just fine once it was on the ps3 internal HD.

  • Can iTunes take songs from the Shuffle and create a new album library.

.. or is it a one way street? if i accept the prompt given:
The iPod "edjshuffle" is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes library and replace all existing songs on this iPod with those from this library? <YES><NO>
... by selecting <YES> I'm afraid I will lose all the songs currently on my iPod Shuffle. But if I say no my Shuffle remains unrecognized by iTunes.
... and yes WindowsXP does recognize my Shuffle as a USB drive.
Can't I simply rename or remove the new library with my old iTunes Music Library??? [tried this and it gave the same prompt.
    HELP!

The iTunes/shuffle synchronization is (mostly) a one way street, and the shuffle can only belong to one computer at a time.

  • I copied a home video to itunes but it plays a minute and then stops

I created a slideshow with music using Movie Maker. I selected to output as MPEG-4/H.264 Video file. I then wanted to import to iTunes to play on my Apple TV. It looks like the file gets imported and shows the length of the file, but when I play it through the video stops after a minute and 1/2 and will not continue at all. Anyone experience this problem? If so, what can I do? I also know there's no hiccups in the file because I've watched this entire 30 minute video using Quicktime before proceding to iTunes import.
