ITunes lost all of its data will my iPad lose all of its data too?
I opened my iTunes then all my music, movies, etc. are gone. I'm afraid if my iPad/itouch will lose all of its data if I sync it to my empty iTunes.
if you do a sync with itunes on your computer before the restore and a sync after the restore (making sure you have set all the the things you want synched turned on) - it should put all of the data back on your restore ipad
when you do a restore (making sure you did a sync before the restore) - check restore from backup not restore as a new device

ITunes lost all of my purchased music, will not allow me to re-download
I recently lost all of my purchased music, around 180 songs, out of the blue. This was not a hardware issue with the underlying block device, as the only music affected were recently purchased music.
I have tried multiple times to redownload my purchased items only to find that the download all button becomes gray and nothing is actually re-downloaded. I have tried this on Windows and on my Mac (which i was working on moving my music to) with the same results. At one point it actually re-downloaded one song however none of my other purchased items were downloaded and the "download all" button went grey.....
I am running the latest OSX Lion and the latest iTunes 10.5.2
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
MikeYour iPod is designed to sync only one iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it to a new library it will replace the contents that are currently on the iPod with the contents from the new library.
So what you'll need to do is copy all the content currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first. Then you can go ahead and restore it to factory settings and start syncing it all back over to your iPod from scratch.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different methods available for copying content from your iPod back to your PC.

I've just updated the lates iTunes, and now it seems to have lost all of my music. I have thousands of songs on an external drive, none of them can be found...the songs are in multiple folders on the external drive so the media folder to the external folder doesn't fix the problem...iTunes isn't seeing songs that are in different folders with sub folders. Is there a way to have iTunes discover the music on the external drive to avoid reloading each of them one at a time?
When you first download iTunes onto a PC, it will give you the option to allow iTunes to search for your music. I'd suggest removing iTunes from your PC, connecting your external drive and then download iTunes from scratch. I'm pretty sure if you let it, it will find the music for you.

HELP...Sync to PC iTunes Lost all Safari Bookmarks
I just sync my iPad with iTunes 10.0.1.22 using my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop which is running Microsoft Vista and somehow lost all my safari bookmarks on my iPad. What I think cause the problem was I checked to sync my Internet Explorer bookmarks which somehow completely erased my bookmarks on the iPad.
How can I recover these bookmarks which were over 500!!!. I sync to my PC on a daily basis and just backed up my entire laptop so if I can find the file which contains the safari bookmarks, hopefully I can just replace that file on my PC and be back in business. Any hints or suggestions would be really appreciated....HI,

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari\Bookmarks.plist
Launch Safari on your PC. Drag the Bookmarks.plist file into your Safari browser window.
If that doesn't work, post in the Safari for Windows forum and ask how to import that Bookmarks.plist file back into Safari. http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1188

ITunes lost all of my playlists...
Downloaded a song only to see that iTunes has lost all but 8 of my purchased songs in the "Purchased" section of the store.
Also, my playlists have vanished. Any ideas?Nobody has any idea? How about a support rep from Apple?

ITunes lost all the names of my audio files
I can appreciate that there are some people who need to have organisation forced upon them because they are incapable or too lazy to do it for themselves. I personally hate apps which take control of my computer or file system and put things where I can't find them.
I have always had my iTunes prefs set to manually manage my audio files. I record messages from our Church services to put on the internet for people to listen to who are unfortunate enough not to be able to attend the service, for whatever reason. Each recording has a different speaker and message heading, which I manually type onto each file after I have converted it from AIFF to MP3. The files are all called 01 Track 01 in their default state from our CD recording equipment.
I had over 1 year's worth of speakers in a folder with, on ocassions, 2 - 3 speakers per week. On one particular day last week, I was doing something on my computer (can't remember what now) but a message appeared which said something along the lines of - 'can't complete your request because your iTunes library is not organised, do you wish to do that now?' and without thinking I pressed the ok button and the task completed.
It was not until the next Sunday when I went into the folder to retrieve the file called 01 Track 01 from amongst all the other named files, that I found over 100 files all with the titles 01 Track 01 1, 01 Track 01 2...3, etc etc. - so much for Apple's brilliant organisation, now I will have to go into each one individually and try to recognise each speaker's voice and wait until he announces his reading before I can name the files to something I will recognise in the future.
iTunes asked if I wanted to 'organise' my files - not rename them, I am so angry about this and I'm guessing there isn't an easy way to fix this - OK, I use Time Machine to backup my discs - but there is 100's of MBs of data to transfer over when it is only the names I need - I KNOW, somebody is going to tell me that it would surely still be quicker to do this than retype all the names - I WILL do this if there is no other option, but I'm hoping that Apple or somebody will be anble to suggest a quick way for me to get all the names back onto the right files.
Any suggestions anybody?

After a forced restart, itunes lost all apps, music, and podcasts.
After I force started my pc while itunes was open, the next time I opened itunes it had started anew. All my music, apps, podcasts, and shows were gone. Is there any way to get my media back without importing and downloading everything I had?
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Each time my iPad sync with iTunes,I lose my album cover's,sometime's my video cover's
How can I get them back & stop it from happening in the future?does it show up when you start itunes?
does it show up in my computer as a camera? -
So this is whats going on. I was listenening to a playlist while playing a game last night. i go to turn on the same playlist tonight and nothing is on itunes. no playlists nor any of the music that is on my external hard drive that stays connected to my computer. The only thing on itunes is the music that i bought through itunes. what is going on with itunes that it just deleted everything by itself.
If you've split the media folder to a separate drive, but have the library files on the internal then you might want to consider normalizing your library so that everything is self-contained on the external drive.

During update Itunes lost all backup and phone deactivated
Please, please help me. I'm sitting in an airport with a phone that is deactivated. I dont have another way to call for support and I've tried to do it on line and it's not working. I am really terrible with iphone/itunes/macs/computers, etc. It's really sad. I need help from a patient and kind soul and fast. Otherwise I'll be stuck at the airport forever...
That doesn't sound like fun mawhinneylisa! Are you still having difficulties? *228 option 1 is a great recommendation if the keypad would respond. I would also try a soft reset by holding the power and home keys down. If the device still doesnt respond, restoring with iTunes would be the best option. Here's a helpful link for future reference. bit.ly/dldlU6

My iTunes has lost all my apps
Hi,
I recently had my iTunes lost all my apps and podcasts. I don't know what happened, but as far as I know I plugged in my iPhone to sync and charge, and after an hour I came back and iTunes had no apps. Of course syncing my iPhone meant all the apps went from my phone. Any idea what could cause this?
Thanks
BozOK, I think I didn't make my original post clear. The files are on the PC, they're in my My Music folder (complete path as you describe).
So yes, I can drag and drop the apps into iTunes, and same with podcasts (although subscriptions are missing). And then do a restore to a backup prior to the mess up. I have done this now, however it means I've lost all app data between the backup and now. Including photos, messages, Apple app data.
Anyway, I've worked around the problem, what I want to know is, how did this happen? Why did iTunes suddenly lose all my apps and podcast subscriptions?
Could it happen again?

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

My ipad is locked and I have forgotton my passcode. I have never synced to itunes. Do I lose all purchases and photos? Many thanks
Removing Disabled erases the contents of the iPad. You can redownload your apps, but the pics will be gone. If you have important files on your iPad, you should always backup frequently.
