ITunes (Mac) freezes when iPhone attached

I am running MacPro 3,1 10GB RAM, no built-in-WiFi, MacOSX 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.1. I have a Netgear n600 WiFi router. My iPhone 4 Verizon 16GB has iOS 5.1.1.(9B206)
iTunes is working great with my whole library and home networking enabled, appleTV 720 and all is well. Up until 2 days ago iPhone 4 as above synched to it ok and iTunes was fully available while it was synching. Synching took 10ish minutes mostly spending time thinking about pictures. I have about 5GB of pictures on the phone and a huge 70000pic iPhoto library. I don't think I ever tried WiFi synching.
3 weeks ago I messed around with how address books were synching but I don't remember exactly what I did. The wierd thing about my iPhone is that it has corporate Outlook Express and they made a rule where my phone locks automatically after 5 minutes of idle. I was trying to make it so redundant address book entries didn't keep appearing.
Ok. yesterday when I plugged my iPhone into the Mac USB iTunes went Not-Responding with a spinning meatball. I eventually force quit iTunes. Started iTunes and immediately it locked up. I never see the summary iPhone screen show up. Turning on WiFi synching would be interesting but I don't think I can do that if the summary screen doesn't show up.
Today I option-started iTunes and created a new library. The problem still re-occured though now my music and apps are gone.
I put back my original library, still have the problem. music and apps are back.
I archived and deleted all if the /Library/Preference/*itunes* files as well as the /Library/iTunes folder.
Still have the problem but this time I got a welcome screen with movie.
I searched on the Apple Support Communities and couldn't find this issue and even the ones that were close didn't have usable solutions, I don't think.
Any suggestions are welcome, even links to sites or conversations that are nearly this problem. Thanks. I'm prepared to do some legwork and write up the results if there is anything profound.

I tried something else. I created a new account on my computer, launched itunes, and plugged in the iPhone 4. The summary screen came up. I subscribed to a podcast, clicked on the iPhone (not crashed) and synched podcasts. Synch completed ok. Other iPhone content is not affected.
So something is wrong with my account on this computer? Where are account stuff stored for an iPhone or iTunes? Or is it something else?

I'm running the latest MAC os X, iTunes on a power mac G5 and all of a sudden, whenever i connect the iPhone, i get the beachball and activity monitor tells me itunes is not responding. I disconnected phone and changed the setting in iTunes to NOT automatically sync when connected, but even then as soon as i plug it in, iTunes says it's "verifying" the phone...the phone says "Sync in Progress" and everything is hung... Any help would be so appreciated, I've looked in the forum and have not found this exact problem... Thanks.

I never had any postcards on the iphone, only on the ipod. Deleted all. Removed iTunes completely. Deleted library. Installed iTunes again. Works fine (well, in apple terms) till the iPhone gets connected. Then it freezes.
Another question, if anyone knows, do the garbage-makers Apple provide any direct support, or is it all through I-have-the-same-problem-too boards where one can (possibly) get any clues what the problem is?

Itune wont open with iphone attached

iTunes wont open when I attach my iPhone to the computer with the same USB ccable I have been using. I can open iTunes then all works fine. In iTunes the option to open iTunes when phone is attached is clicked on.

Check out this Apple document -> iTunes for Mac won't open automatically when connecting device.
You'll have to disable the "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" option before you can choose to have iTunes open when the iPhone is connected.

Why does my airbook mac freeze when using external hard drive

This is a recent development, my MacBook Air freezes when I attach my external CD drive and I have to do a hard restart (hold the power button till it turns off). This never use to happen. Any suggestions? Cheers!

Can anyone suggest what is happening and how to get around this? In worst case is there a way to move the files outside of imovie that will still allow them to be properly displayed within imovie?
I don't think that it can be done that way - BUT I KNOW that it can be very destructive
most probably end up as un-reparable.
The move of projects and events - works so much better in iMovie'09

ITunes (10.6.3) freezes when iPhone 4S (5.1.1) is connected

Whenever I connect my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1) to iTunes (10.6.3) on my Mac (OS 10.7.3) it always freezes, always for about 30 seconds and then it will work again. But let me note, this only happens on the first time I connect my iPhone for the first time I turn on my Mac. I'm not sure if that makes sense. So, when I turn on my Mac and I open iTunes and connect my iPhone, it will freezes but after 30 seconds it will work. But let's say I am done syncing my iPhone and I unplug it but a few minutes later I want to sync it again, if I connect it, it won't freeze. But let's say I restart or turn off my Mac, but after I open iTunes for the first time after I've booted and I connect my iPhone, it will freeze.
I've had the same issue with my last iPhone so I know it's not isolated to my iPhone. I have deleted iTunes from the Terminal app and downloaded iTunes from the Apple website, but the issue will persist. Any ideas anyone?
Also, I don't have any podcasts synced on my iPhone. I've read that sometimes causes it. I ONLY have music and apps synced.

You see, one of the main reasons why Apple Products are easy to love is because of all of the kindhearted, kindred folks here who enjoy helping others. I try to help too, but I never get any points. My heart is in the right place though.
I don't actually have an iPhone myself BUT I know that sometimes when I connect with iTunes online, that there is a lag while the "Genius" is "analyzing my iTunes library". Perhaps that could have something to do with it?

I know I'll feel stupid after somebody gives me the answer to this. But, what the heck, if I don't ask I won't get. So here it goes: My iTunes does not turn on automatically when I attach my iPhone to my Mac. I have to open the application manually. Is there a setting to make it come on when I attache my iphone?

Yes, there is a setting to make it happen. Connect your iPhone to your Mac, and click on it in the iTunes column so it shows the iPhone information. Click on Summary, got to the bottom of that page, under Options, and check the box that says "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected".
P.S. I know how you feel. I think I have posted about a dozen questions that I have ended up answering myself the next day when I wake up and think about the problem again.

ITunes 10.7(21) freezes when iPhone 4 (iOS 6) plugged in

Since the latest iTunes update to 10.7, I can no longer plug in my iPhone, iPod without iTunes freezing. iTunes stops responding, and the only way to get out of it is to force quit.
This occurs accross two 21" iMacs, one running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and one running Lion. All iDevices are up to date. iPhone 4 running iOS 6. It's an older iPod shuffle, but it worked and sync'd just fine up until the latest iTunes update.

I have an Imac and a G3 IPhone and I have the same problem. When I plug in the IPhone, the IPhoto comes up and works and the ITunes will open but then all I get in ITunes is the spinning ball of death. I think it started happening right after I updated the IPhone to the latest version.

So I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice, reset the iPhone settings and whenever I plug the phone in, iTunes freezes. The phone charges and appears in iPhoto, but no dice with iTunes. My iPod shows up fine. I haven't installed anything new on the computer (haven't installed much of anything beyond Microsoft Office) and I have a Mac, so I don't think it's a USB driver issue (or if it is, I can't solve it based on other Windows discussions on this topic). Anyone have ideas? I guess I could go back to iTunes 8.2 as someone mentioned this helped, but would really like to get it solves...

I had the exact same problem and after following apple support's recommendation to re-install itunes (which did not work), I simply deleted the last few podcasts I had downloaded straight to my iphone and this resolved the problem. Thanks for saving me the time of having to call apple support/go to genius bar.
