ITunes Mac launches on its own - interferes with Magicjack and Airport

I have a headless Mac Mini 2010 which I occasionally hook up to my HD-TV that occasionally will launch on its own iTunes a short period after boot. Temporarily I've had to stop this action by compressing the application into an archive.   We are running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  As soon as iTunes launches, the airport connection from the Mac Mini disappears, and the Magicjack software goes in the background and my Magicjack connection then dies.  It happens at random, and I can't figure out why.
I upgraded to Airport firmware 7.6 on my Airport Extreme base station, and that didn't help.  But it seems it stays connected always when there is a keyboard connected, but once I remove it, that connection dies after a few calls.  Zapping the PRAM may have helped for now, and then immediately after removing the keyboard and mouse.   Lately it is working fine, so I don't want to mess with it, but anyone know why iTunes would launch on its own even when the helper is not listed in the Login Items?
When I've played around with it, the Airport won't accept my WPA2 password on the Mac  Mini even though I'm careful with the password case, and username, and other computers on the airport are working fine.  And yes, I disabled all the Bluetooth settings for looking for a keyboard when it is not connected, and the iTunes launching still happens.  I would like to leave iTunes unarchived on the machine so I can use the iTunes sharing to connect to my HDTV occasionally since my original AppleTV doesn't work reliably with it either.  I only want to connect a keyboard and mouse when I connect to my HDTV, but then otherwise leave those disconnected and it not interfere with my Magicjack.
If someone can help me find a way to leave iTunes unarchived, while keeping my Magicjack always up, and my Airport connection never dying that would be great!   Thank you.

Upeace, it's so long ago I can't remember now… But I do know that my newer MBP's volume can be affected by someone tinkering with the Apple TV remote. Is that a possibility? If so you can turn this off in System Preferences. It's not at all easy to find though—you have to go into 'Security Privacy > Firewall > Advanced' and then tick 'Disable remote control infrared receiver'.

  • ITunes 8.1 launching on its own repeatedly

I have yet to see anything recent on this, so I'm asking here.
Since upgrading to iTunes 8.1, I have noticed it will launch without provocation. I have set Podcasts to update Manually. I do not appear to have any iTunes clients running in the background. I have not attached any iPod or iPhone device to the Mac. It seems no matter what I do, iTunes will launch on its own. Feature? Bug?
Would two users running iTunes Helpers cause any problems? I just logged out a user account that had a second iTunes Helper running. I'm not sure if that will help.

I should note that a reboot cleared up the issue. It might have something to do with two instances of iTunes Helper running at the same time. Also, my wife and I have separate active logins on this iMac most of the time. I will try to recreate the problem, but for now, it's "fixed."

Your graphic card is damaged. This could be related to extensions, but the kernel panic gives you the message that your graphic card has failed.
You can only make a backup of your files with Time Machine or Disk Utility's Restore feature, and take the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller. Your computer has got the graphic card soldered into the logic board, so this will be a very expensive repair

Why does my mac reboot on its own?

Oh den.thed...  I saw your post this morning and I was so excited....  ran to the Mac and got to Energy Saver, and...  the checkbox is already unchecked.
Long story, I'll make it short.  Just got the Mac back after having the HDD replaced.  (It stopped working after less than 500 hours.)  This rebooting thing has been happening ever since I got the computer in 2010, and I was hoping it would coincidentally stop happening after having this crashed HDD replaced last week.  No such luck.  Still doing it, even after getting the computer back from Apple.  Two of my kids have macbooks, have used the cr*p out of them, and have had very few problems (nothing big).  I bought this Mac, to replace a dead Dell desktop that got very little use, and so far I am not sure I did the right thing.  Really wish I could get this "automatic" rebooting thing fixed.  (Reboots with no notice, while doing normal tasks - internet, word docs, etc.)  Thanks again for your help.  Let me know if I should try anything else.

I'm using a Nokia X6 and ever since Orange merged with T-Mobile, the E-mail setup wizard has been launching of its own accord asking me to allow the application to use network to send or recieve data, I hit No and it goes away, but the wizard will keep launching.
It only seems to launch when the phone is locked and if I go in and out of signal.
    Some help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Any help? It's quite a pain. I've tried restarting, but that hasn't fixed it.

the itunes music folder on my drive does not get deleted and in a hour or two i can once again upload the music back into itunes,

If it is doing it while your device is plugged in, it is because it is set to automatically sync. Please go to: Preferences>Devices, and select the option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically." Also, I hate to be "that guy", but you spelt extremely wrong. Just a pro tip.

  • Are there any compatibility issues with Sonos and Airport extreme??

are there any compatibility issues with Sonos and Airport extreme??

Sonos uses its own priopietory wireless protocol SonosNet to distribute audio data among all its products, thus it should not affect other network devices which use standard WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n protocol at all though they may share the same radio channel for wirless signaling.
On my dual-band (5 GHz / 2.4 GHz) Airport Extreme staion, I select the option "802.11n Only (5GHz) - 802.11n (2.4GHz)" and turn on "Use wide channels" in Wireless configuration in order to use only 802.11n protocol and more radio channels to achieve maximum wireless bandwidth of 400 Mbps. This bandwidth is necessary for quick Time Machine backup to NAS connected to the Airport Extreme station through Ethernet cable. So my iMac and MacBook Pro always connected to the Airport Extreme through 5 GHz radio channel with 802.11n protocol whereas my iPhone 4S always connected through 2.4 GHz radio channel with the same protocol.
In my living room Sonos ZP-90 (same as new CONNECT model) zone player is connected to Airport Extreme directly through Ethernet cable (recommended by Sonos) and Sonos S5 (same as new PLAY:5 model) zone player in bedroom is connected wirelessly through SonosNet protocol to the ZP-90 zone player in living room.
These devices are in operation simutaneouly most of the time. Music is playing through the Sonos ZP90/S5 zone players througout the day, I am streaming viedo through Internet (fibre broadband 25 Mbps) on my MacBook Pro in bedroom or iMac in living room or reading news on my iPhone. So far so good and have no encounter any interference problem for about three years. Further more bandwidth for 802.11n protocol does not seem to be affected at all.
In fact with a low power Fujitsu USB drive (2.5" / 500 GB, designed for notebook) plug into USB port of Airport Extreme, it can be used as NAS drive for Sonos music distribution system without any problem. Just transfer all files from Music folder in my home directory on iMac into this NAS drive and set it up as music source in "Manage > Music Library Settings" in Sonos Controller for Mac application will do. Though the same drive can be served as Time Machine's backup disk as well, an independent full-fledged NAS drive for Sonos and Time Machine backup is better long-term solution for reliability and performance. With the NAS configured as sole music source, you do not need to keep any computer powered on all the time in order to play music through the Sonos system.

  • My iTunes keeps opening on its own HELP!!

I really need help here. I have Googled this for a while now, and I can't find any fix. My iTunes will just spontaneously open on its own, sometimes it'll play the first song in my library and other times it won't. This has been going on for a few months now, through multiple versions of the iTunes software. Currently, I am using version 10.5 on Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8). I do not have plug ins that interact with iTunes installed anywhere on my computer, nor do I have widgets for iTunes. I do have devices I connect to iTunes, but I've disabled the Wi-Fi sync, thinking that was the culprit. It actually seemed to work at first when I did it, but now the problem is back in full swing and I've now gotten to the point where I need to store the iTunes app in the trash so the computer no longer has access to open it. I tried entering in "killall iTunes" into Terminal, based off a suggestion I read somehwere else, and it of course quits the program, but then iTunes just opens up again 5 seconds later. Has anyone found the reason this is happening? I see a lot of similar complaints, but NO answers and Apple support seems to be blind to the issue. I would appreciate any advice I could get on the matter, thank you.

That's crazy, LeonieDF, but i think you are Right!
itunes autolaunching was driving me nuts, i removed my headphones from the headphone jack on my macbook pro, and voila! No more problem. What a wierd bug.

  • How do I stop iChat from launching on its own?

This is weird. I have three computers connected over a home network and connected to the net by a DSL modem.
iChat (4.0.2) is installed on all three.
Last night, it was turned off on all three.
This morning I wake to find that iChat has launched on my laptop, is chirping away and showing that window saying AOL has me logged in on two systems at once.
    What gives?
    Bob

    Hi,
Check the System Preferences > Accounts > Your Account > Login Items.
This will list the apps that start up when the Mac does.
If you mean that waking the Mac from sleep shows an attempt to receive an IM when Off line then it is possible. In certain circumstances iChat does seem to do this.
In the General Section of iChat> Preferences makes sure it is set to Log out when iChat is Quit. This setting otherwise only partially logs you out and can be responsible for the Double/two place Login message.
Also check whether each computer if using the same AIM screen name has it set to Allow Multiple Logins. (this is one way to stop the message).
If you want to use the Message you get to log another computer out of AIM then type "1" as a response to it (or 2). Typing "1" will log the first computer that was logged in (or not fully logged out) off line. Typing "2" is likely to log the machine you are using Off Line (for iChat/AIM). It can be useful to check which is which.
The same message will appear if there are two apps on the same computer that are logged in (or not fully logged out) with AIM.
If you are getting Off Line messages then you should also get a AIMSysMessage item saying if you want to continue with this and you should have an option to Stop it. (I am not sure there is a way in iChat to restart it)

  • Computer shuts down on its own even with full battery life.

I purchased a new battery for my 13 inch aluminum MacBook. Installation was fine and dandy but even with a full charge, if I don't have my power adapter connected, the computer will shut down on its own without warning. Is there a fix for this?

    Have you reset the SMC?

  • Main "Play Control" volume changes on its own when I open and close WinDVD or Winfast

Main "Play Control" volume changes on its own when I open these programs, and when they're closed the main volume resets to where it was before the program was opened.
Surely I'm not the only one who has had this problem before.. I've had the problem with both Creative soundcards I've owned, before and after different drivers installations.
It can be very irritating and can potentially lead to damaged speakers if I'm not paying close attention to what my various volume knobs are set at before and after I open these programs.
I appreciate any and all input, thankyou.

I had to edit to reflect its Mavericks 10.9

  • Discover Bluetooth LE Device and its custom service with uuid and its characteristics

    Hello Team,
I have a requirement for developing a library in C# which can be used in any windows app (Metro or Non Metro) apps to discover Bluetooth LE devices which are advertising a custom service with uuid and pair and find all the characteristics of the service
and send parameters and receive response.
I have tried 32feet.NET library which everyone talks about but realized it doesn't support Bluetooth LE devices. Is there any way I can do that? Or do I have write C# wrapper to use winsock2.2 library to call native code to access Bluetooth stack?
Please suggest. We have been able to achieve this requirement in Mac OSX by using their core Bluetooth framework.

    Hello Priyanku,
    >>Is there any way I can do that?
As far as I know, there is not such API that you can use to enumerate all services belonging to a Bluetooth LE device, nor all characteristics belonging to a service.
    >>Or do I have write C# wrapper to use winsock2.2 library to call native code to access Bluetooth stack?
I suggest that you could try it.
    Regards.
