ITunes madness

I am new to the iPhone, but very computer literate. A few sync's intro the game I hit a problem. iTunes 'lost' my library. Back then I had few apps and it was no trouble to select 'previous libraries' and go on. Last nite the same thing happened again and when i chose previous it went back a month and I lost 15 apps...some of which I paid for.
Now I am trying find where in iTunes I can select a previous backup to install to the phone since it's always backing up before it syncs. Now there's another huge wrinkle. Tried to update to OS4 and during the backup stage it hangs up and stalls out....but I digress [no one seems to know how to deal with that one].
So anyway, do I have to 're-download' each app? Will I be charged again?
How can I make sure this doesn't happen again? I can't even find a way to change the name of the library and save it anywhere in iTunes. I have version 9.0x so it's not an old one.
If anyone has answers I sure would appreciate it, I am extremely frustrated with this problem!!!!

  • Installing iTunes made windows stop recognizing my iPod

*Short version:* the USB driver included in Apple Mobile Device Support with the latest version of iTunes did not work. Deleting them made my iPod work.
    *Long Version:*
I had an iPod Mini (4gb, past warranty) that recently had a harddisk failure, so I bought a new Nano. I uninstalled itunes, removed all related files and folders, downloaded itunes 7.5 and installed it, and plugged in the Nano. Error message: "Your hardware failed to install properly." ITunes did not see the ipod.
I spent a couple hours going through the apple.com troubleshooting suggestions, which did not work. Device Manager had the yellow exclamation point icon by "Apple iPod USB Driver" no matter what I did. Eventually, I decided to purge my computer of all Apple products, delete all copies of usbaapl.sys (the nonfunctioning driver) from my computer, and plug in the Nano without installing itunes. It worked! So I installed itunes, rebooted, plugged the Nano back in, and... it didn't work.
So, installing itunes made windows stop recognizing my ipod. At this point I decided that itunes might be using a bad copy of the driver, so I deleted all copies of usbaapl.sys from my computer and tried again. It asked for the install disk for "Apple mobile device" something, so I used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support. After that, it's working.
So, I spent three hours troubleshooting because the drivers packaged with the latest version of itunes don't work. Spiffy.

Had the same problem and I uninstalled all apple products (itunes Apple mobile support, etc.), deleted all usbaapl.sys files, and reinstalled latest version of itunes + quicktime. I had the same problem. I then unplugged my IPOD from the USB connection, put it in disk mode, and then plugged the IPOD back into the USB connection and EVERYTHING WORKED!!
The following article describes how to put an IPOD into disk mode:

  • ITunes made even better

iTunes can be made even better with the addition of Pass Through, a feature available in Photoshop, but a feature that can be created in iTunes to successfully incorporate iTunes into a successful sound management application for the over all operating system itself, OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard needs to mature and develop some teeth. What I mean by that is, that when I run another application like EYE TV for example and the bass isn't performing as it should, I should be able to go to iTunes and hit the Pass Through button and iTunes becomes my apple computers full service equalizer and allows me to adjust the sound effects for my over all Apple computer. This extra feature can be set in the system preferences for sound to sync up iTunes with the computers sound system. This feature should already be a standard feature. If not, simply add an equalizer to the sound preferences to better produce a quality sound over all. Please all of you Apple technicians consider this request.

Good idea, but post it at this link so the Apple engineers will see it: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • .m3u / playlist & itunes madness

Here's something that I thought would be rather straight-forward but has consumed me for the last several days...
As a small holiday gift, I gave people a mix CD of music I made in GarageBand, something I've done every year. But this year I got the bright idea to give out a DVD of the mp3 files or in some cases a .dmg/.zip so A) I didn't have to burn a bunch of discs and B) thought it'd be easier for recipients just to import the tracks into iTunes.
What I didn't expect was, even with the tracks numbered sequentially 01-30 before the file names, they would not import in the proper order. So, I did some research and realized .m3u playlists were the key - not knowing iTunes can't natively export playlist files and most of the scripts/applets I found didn't work due to age/compatibility.
So... created a .m3u playlist file with all the file names, double-click that but it still only imports 25 out of the 30 mp3s into the LIBRARY and does not create a playlist in the sidebar! Which means, my non-tech savvy recipients will have to be coached into grouping the tracks or by using smart playlist by date added -- now we're getting in way over the heads of my friends and if I ever want them to listen to the music I created, I have to make this super, one-click easy for them.
Why is this so complicated? I just want to give music files to friends, have it import into itunes in the correct desired order, and make it a playlist in the sidebar!
I'm also frustrated that my homemade .m3u playlist file only imports 25 out of the 30 tracks for some reason. I can find no logic as to why it leaves out five.
Can anybody out there offer advice/solution(s)? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

  • ITunes made me cry

While using iTunes to convert .mov to .mp3 I erased my entire library.
When iTunes converts, it sends the final product to the "music" tab. When converting 30+ .mov files this is a problem, because I have to search for them in over 2000 songs. Thinking I'd be smart, I deleted the songs from the "Music" tab, not knowing it would delete all the songs in the other 100+ playlists I made.
I just about cried. It took me days to achieve that level of spectacular organization. Now my music is gone, playlists empty.
I decided to sync my iPod back to my machine thinking everything would restore itself. It didn't. Needless to say, all the music on my iPod got erased.
    I died inside.
The only saving grace is that I didn't delete the music files. Still got those, but they're stockpiled away in usual iTunes fashion behind about five folders in the depths of the hard drive. Hard to get to.
My question is, am I really going to have to put all of my 2,000+ songs back into their individual playlists one by one? Is there any way to restore this? Please help. I'm traumatized forever.

Just use the Add to Library command in the iTunes File Menu.
In the dialogue box that you will see select the top level folder that has all the folders with music in below it. iTunes will add the music back.

  • Is there a way to revert the changes iTunes made to the information for many of my songs?

I was going through my songs to add further details and album artwork. The box that pops up when many songs are being amended at once came on my screen but I simply thought it to be iTunes doing something I need not worry about. I eventually looked to the top of the screen and, when before Accidental Mersh's "Mirror Israeli" was playing, iTunes showed the band playing "Mirror Israeli" to be Songs for Walter. I switched to the artist tab and over half of my 4k+ songs have been edited to be of the album Songs for Walter by Songs for Walter. Aside from going through each individual song/ album and changing it, do you think there are any ways to change them back?
Additional information: I updated iTunes maybe four hours ago to the latest version. And, no, I did not shift-click all of these songs.

  • Latest updates - OS X 10.4.8  &  iTunes - made Mail buggy

    Hello,
Ever since I installed the iTunes and OS X updates yesterday, I can open Mail but, then it just freezes up. Mail won't let me force quit any other way except, Option > Command >Escape. I didn't have a problem until I Installed the mentioned updates. I'm sure that is where the problem is.
Yesterday, I ran Disk Utility, from my Install Disc and then from my hard drive, to no avail. I also ran Tech Tool and everything passed. Today I ran Disc Utility from the Install Disc, and repaired disc and disc permissions. I don't know what else to do.
From what I've seen here and elsewhere, the updates created lots of problems in Mail for bunches of people. I'm one of them.
    HELP!!!!

Ok now. I don't know why but, Mail is working just fine now. I sent a test to my Yahoo account and replied back to my Mac account with no trouble. The app didn't freeze this time, and I can quit from the dock. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

  • Updating iTunes made the program unavailable/corrupted?

I tried to upgrade to the latest iTunes version and the program locked up and everytime I try to start it up, I get the following message:
The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\ProgramFiles\ipod\bin\ipodService.Resources\es.lproj\iPodServiceLocalized.dl l
It gets stuck there and won't let me continue, the options are to retry, which fails, or bail out and then I can't acess my ipod program or file. I have a gazillion tunes, mostly from CDs I've put on it myself, but I've also purchase hundreds of tunes from the iTunes store. Any way around losing all my music and fixing this bug?
    Rawrecords

    Hey there,
Locate the iTunes folder, which probably located in the Music folder in Documents and right click on it and choose "Properties." From there, click the security tab and add your self in the user names and give yourself full access to the folder and see if that helps.
Many people have had to do this even though they are already the administrator and only user of their computer. It's worth a shot. Hope it helps.

  • Small remarks on the fact that I shall wish that Itune made

I import a lot of music for my ipod via the import of CD and I find that this module misses a little of flexibility.
    I shall like:
-To be able to attribute(award) in the menu preference / import one t bit fails by type of category ex: classic = > 320 Jazz = > 160 and those in a fixed way without having has to make of manip between every import of CD
-Have a View Contact in Itune (got rid of power the obsolete contacts)
-Have a View Photos in Itune too
The management of the Contacts and Photos seems not to take into account the Deletion of those contained in the ipod
(hardly to find a Postremark for idea of new feature in official site )
    PIV 3.2G   Windows 2000

iTunes is primarily a music management program/media player. The import settings are pretty limited, you're right. Most people who want customization in that respect use another ripper.
iTunes relies on other apps for the contacts, no viewing. Same with photos. Probably because on OS X there are dedicated apps for contacts and photos.
I know that that's not what you're looking for, but there's pretty much nothing that can be done.

  • How do i make itunes find my music library on an external hard drive?

OK. So i got a new PC and ive downloaded itunes. Ive authorised itunes. However, no matter how hard i try, i cannot get it to find my existing itunes library which is situated on an external hard drive.
I know ive done it before with my last PC but cannot remember how...and itunes made sense back then rather than the nonsense it is now.
    Any tips?
    Cheers

  • My ipod needs to be restored but it only stays on the "connect to itunes" for approximately 20 seconds and then turns black as if it is turned off.

So a couple of months ago, I had to restore my new IPOD 5 TOUCH because i had forgotten the password and disabled it, so as you can imagine I am quite familiar with restoring it.
(The last time I had synced it was the only time that I had to restore it when I first got it when I had disabled it)
This morning I wanted to sync my ipod. So I plugged my ipod into my WINDOWS computer and waited for itunes to open, and it did just like it is supposed to. It then said itunes needed the latest update so i continued with updating it. Itunes updated, but then said that my ipod needed the latest software. I said "ok update" and thats when itunes made my ipod into DFU mode without me even touching it.
SOOOO as you can imagine I was quite upset. I then have realized that because Itunes had moved it into DFU mode on its own, I could not manually get my ipod out of DFU mode so the only thing i was left to do was go ahead and restore it.  (correct me if Im wrong)
My huge issue right now is that my ipod NEEDS to be restored, but it only stays on the "connect to itunes" screen for approximatley 20 seconds and then turns black as if it has been turned off. When I plug it into my computer and turn it on to the "connect to itunes" mode, it does open it in itunes and starts "extracting sofftware" but then when it turns black after 20 seconds, it closes out because my computer thinks it has turned off.
I have tried charging it, and nothing has progressed. Im not sure if anything can be done for it right now, or if I could bring it to an apple store to fix it... it's brand new about 3 months old.
HELP and some advice would be greatly appreciated  !
    Thanks!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Setting Up a New User Account - iTunes issue

My wife and I were both using our Mac as a single user, but logging into iTunes under separate iTunes accounts to download our own music and apps.
This week I set up a new User Account in her name, and transferred all music and apps to her User Account so she would be able to access and sync on her own account, just by fast switching, rather than logging into iTunes each visit.
When she plugs her phone into the iMac to sync via iTunes, she gets the following message:
*iTunes could not sync information to the iPhone " " because another sync client is already running*.
Anyone had this problem and found a solution ?

I recently had this same error message problem with my 3GS. Here's everything I did, one of the steps solved the problem...
    1. Restarted with the phone unattached.
    2. Repaired permissions using Disk Utility.
    3. Restarted the phone. Here's where I had some difficulty: After swiping to confirm the shutdown, the screen went black, and I had the spinning icon that wouldn't go away. I ended up having to hold the lock and home buttons down to force shutdown the phone. I powered it back up, and it took forever to start, but it eventually did. I then power-cycled it one more time, and everything was back to normal.
    4. Started up iTunes. Go into the preferences, and under the "Devices" tab, I found my previous backup. I deleted it.
    5. Plugged in the phone, and everything was normal. iTunes made a new backup, so the sync took awhile, but it was successful.
    Good luck!

  • Itunes wont let me update my ipod

I tried putting too many songs on my ipod and it told me there isnt enough room so itunes made a seperate playlist with every song in it (i forget why). so i left the playlist there, deleted some videos for more space and updated my ipod. everything was fine... i had all my songs at that point but my playlists were gone (the playlists were still in itunes)except for the one itunes made with every song in it.
i went into itunes and deleted that playlist and updated my ipod again. i found out later that it erased all of my stuff except for my photos.
now when i try to update it doesnt even try. it just says "songs on the ipod "my ipod" cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
i dont see what the problem is
    can someone help me out
      Windows XP

now when i try to update it doesnt even try. it just says "songs on the ipod "my ipod" cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
while the ipod is plugged in, click on your Music tab.
you will currently have "Selected Playlists" selected. go through the list of playlists beneath that, and uncheck the one that you deleted from your iTunes sourcelist.
