ITunes match and local library file removal?

Hey guys,
So I'm slowly running out of space on my 128gb SSD in my MBP and I have to get rid of some music files to free up space:
I've subscribed to iTunes Match and all of my music files have been synced to iCloud. Now I was wondering, can I delete my audio files locally - will they still be made available on the cloud? Has anyone done this before - have you encountered any problems?
I do have a backup of all my local audio files.
Any help is appreciated,
Thom.

iTunes Match does not provide ID3 tags from the iTunes Store, so any tracks that do not have ID3 tags now will still not have ID3 tags after they are scanned and mirrored in the cloud.
If a track cannot be "matched" then it is "uploaded." To tell the difference enable the iCloud Status column in the iTunes browser by swtching to Song view and pulling down View > View Options and selecting "iCloud Status" then closing the small window.
You may delete any tracks you choose from the library and the cloud at any time.

  • ITunes match and local files

I have just signed up for iTunes match and have a question. I have a shedload of unorganized music from various CD rips over the years. None of the file names are right, tags are not filled in etc and I dont have the time/patience to go through thousands of songs checking them. Im not fussed about keeping a lot of it but dont want to just delete all of it. I want to use match to tidy this up by letting it match what it can and then deleting everything it can't forever (locally and from the cloud)
What would be the best way to go about this guys? I'm at a bit of a loss! I'm running win 7.
    Thanks for any help offered

  • ITunes won't recognize "library files" of  playlists and ratings

After a Restore and putting iTunes onto an external hard drive, I can't get iTunes to recognize the library files that have my playlists and ratings.
How do you get the library files (itl and xml) to be recognized after moving all your music and iTunes to an external hard drive?
I just did a Restore on my iPod. Just before that, I had backed up my iTunes folder to an external hard drive and bought a new laptop. After I did the Restore, I was able to iTunes to recognize that my library is now on the external hard drive (to free up space on my laptop). The Apple Genius told me I could get the existing library files to work by just moving them into my iTunes folder on the external hard drive.
But iTunes doesn't recognize that I have any playlists, etc.

I think the library database files have to be in your "My Music" folder under the folder "itunes". I have not found a way of changing this. The music library can be elsewhere, but you need to have itunes do the move to keep the library database files in sync.

  • HT4913 If I sign up for iTunes Match, and then turn the iTunes Match on my iPad, will my music library from the iPad that is not currently in iCloud move to the iCloud?

I have a large music library on my iPad, that is not currently on iCloud or on my main PC. If I sign up for iTunes Match, and then turn the iTunes Match on my iPad, will the music library from the iPad that is not currently in iCloud move to the iCloud? Or will I loose all that music?

iTunes Store: Subscribing to iTunes Match
After looking through the above link, and still doesn't help then try this below:
    > iTunes Content: Downloading past purchases from App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    > Non-iTunes Content: Transfer them from a different iDevice or from USB flash drive and/or external hard drive.
I don't use iTunes Match so I don't really know.

    Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

    Hi mdr1976,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can use iTunes Match to access your entire iTunes library on your computer and iOS devices.
You can access your iTunes library on your Apple TV using Home Sharing, which is why it only works when your MacBook is turned on.

  • I have 3 computers with 3 different iTunes libraries can I download all to itunes match and have one library?

I have 3 computers with 3 different iTunes libraries, can i set up iTunes Match download each library and have all of my music in one place in the cloud?

Yes.  By enabling iTunes Match on each computer, each library will be scanned and the Songs will be Matched or Uploaded to the cloud.

  • ITunes Match songs on library with external drive

    Hi,
I have all my music on an external drive (and my library files on the internal drive). I activated iTunes Match so I can listen to my music when the drive is not present. iTunes Match activated succefully and I see all my music on my iPhone. But when I launch iTunes without the external drive present and I try to play a song it just prompts me to locate the missing file and it doesn't give me the option to play it from the cloud. Is this fuctionality not supported or am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance.

As Jim says not all DRM-restricted tracks will be eligible to be "matched." If you bought them from the iTunes Store then they will still be "purchased" and the only way the DRM can be removed is to burn them to an Audio CD and import them to the iTunes library again. However, this does not guarantee they will then be "matched" either.
To see the iCloud Status of any tracks switch to Song view in iTunes and pull down View > View Options and select "iCloud Status" then close the small window. The tracks that are still DRM-restricted will most likely be either "purchased" or "uploaded."

  • I bought itunes match and none of my imported tunes got uploaded. it says ther was error thats all. Any way to trouble shoot?

I bought itunes match and none of my imported tunes got uploaded. It says there was error thats all. Any way to trouble shoot? or what maybe the problem

Best route is to use the Kind, iCloud Download and iCloud Status fields in your library to see exactly what is going on.  Often it is worthwhile to turn iTunes Match off, convert suspect Songs to AAC using the iTunes capability, remove non-AAC version (post backup), turn iTunes Match on and allow the 3-Step process to run to completion.
There are restrictions on the type and nature of Song files that iTunes Match is able to work with - it may be that several of your Song files do not fall within the supported range but it is certainly worth trying the steps outlined above.

  • Does all my music stay on my MacBook Pro after I sign up for iTunes Match, or does it get removed from my Mac?

Does all my music stay on my MacBook Pro after I sign up for iTunes Match, or does it get removed from my Mac?

    Hi,
It remains on your hard drive. iTunes match scans your library to determine if tracks are matched or uploaded. It does not touch the files on your hard drive. You have the option to upgrade tracks for matched versions but you need to delete tracks and download new versions.
You can camn opt to delete tracks from your library. This will free up space and you will be able to stream your music. In any event, I suggest that you back up your music to an external drive.

  • Recently got a new iPod 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod - any suggestions?

Recently got a new iPod Touch 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod after multiple attempts, despite all songs showing properly on the Mac and multiple syncs occurring after all songs were properly reflected on the Mac.  I updated iTunes Match from the iTunes Store menu as well pre-sync.
I should mention that I had previously had the library on a Dell (which is still running) and shared it on my home network.  While all iTunes purchases now show in the Dell, the Mac is the device I use for all syncs.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the iCloud physical sync failure - some songs were legacy, some were purchased via the PC, some on the old iPod.
The Mac shows all the songs correctly and none show iCloud status -all have been downloaded, but the downloaded songs that were previously showing up as iCloud based aren't syncing to the iPod.
Is there any way to force all music being seen by my iPod as iCloud to download to so I can listen to them offline?  Is there a way to force the sync from iTunes?

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

  • Itunes match and icloud

Hi infortunetly like many people i have put all my eggs in one basket and am beholden to what ever Apple tells me what i can and cannot do with their products. When i bought the new iPhone 5 and updated I had a really hard time putting music into it through Itunes after an incredibly painfull amount of searching i realised i had to turn off match which now as we know I lose the ability to share my music through Icloud for all my respective devices. when I went to turn it (Match) back on after completing the import of hard copy music to my drive on my iPhone. Match and/or Icloud tells me it's going to remove my entire library is this true. I like to listen to my music all the time as many of us do. If i am at my cottage fairly remote No internet No cellular data service etc. how will i listen to my music if its in virtual world. does anybody understand what im trying to convey.

    Yes, it's completely confusing.
Some people (and Apple) like things to work automatically in the way Apple thinks you want to use them but many of us would prefer more manual control and would like to mix syncing of audio with cloud services.
I haven't updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 yet but from what I've read different recent OS versions have worked a little differently when it comes to iTunes Match and the cloud some offering more control over the content than others - I must admit to being thoroughly confused so hopefully someone will provide you with a definitive answer (for now).
