ITunes match, apps and different IDs

Hi,
i know this question has probably been asked many, many times but i am struggling to find a concise answer. so apologies to all who already advised on this matter...
So - i want to subscribe to iTunes Match using my Apple ID. However...
I would also like my wife to access this Match account on her iPhone. We have no problem with this deleting any of her playlists or with the music content she has access to - it is all shared anyway. BUT she has her own Apple ID that she uses to get Apps. These are different to the Apps i get and use under my ID (and the one i will use for Match).
If she links to my match account:
what happens to her Apps?
can she still update them when updates are available?
can she access and download Apps previously purchased from her account but that are no longer on her iPhone?
And one last question - I presume (and hope) that this Match linking will have no impact on her notes, mail, calendar etc...
many thanks for anyones support in this - seeming simple maybe, but messing with my head right now!
Cheers
Stu

Hi Stu996,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
I've included a few links below to help answer your question.
The iTunes Match subscription is tied to one Apple ID account.
So, if you purchased it on your Apple ID, your wife could access your music by using Home Sharing across your home network, but she would maintain her own iTunes library and purchases with her own Apple ID.
Another option is to use one Apple ID for iTunes Store purchases and a separate Apple ID for iCloud services.

  • How can I use iTunes Match on two different accounts on same computer?

What happens if I enable iTunes Match in a different account on my Mac Pro.  I am already set up with iTunes Match because I was travelling and I wanted to use my iPhone on the road but not fill up the storage.  I turned off iTunes Match in my primary account (user of course) becuase I have all the "original" music in that library. I have another account though that I would also like to be able to use just some of the music at different times.  I have a separate account for using Final Cut Pro X.
So, would ITunes Match be the solution I am looking for?  iCloud status gives me all of the music I have purchased but it is short about 800 music files.

I know that.  When I talk of accounts I mean user accounts on the Mac Pro.  I am looking for a solution that wil keep iTunes libraries, playlist, etc insync between two user accounts on the computer.

  • HT4913 iTunes match subscription and device association

I have recently purchased an itunes match subscription and I was able to associate it with my new ipad mini, but when I try to turn on itunes match on my iphone 5 and original ipad it won't work.  I get an error message that says that I do not have a subscription to Itunes match.  It references that I need to go to my computer.  When I log on to my itunes account to manage devices, I can see the ipad mini, but not the phone original ipad.  Any thoughts on why I can't get this to work?  The iphone is latest iOS, but original ipad is only at iOS 5.1 (highest I can go with this ipad, but still compatible with itunes match).

    Kate,
You may want to try signing out of the existing Apple IDs (as set up on the iPhone and iPad), then signing them back in.

If the two devices are still misbehaving, you might need to turn them off then back on, or reset them as necessary.

Thanks for your advice, I went to the apple shop today for a face to face meeting with a tech and he checked everything and could not figure out why I was having this problem so we decided to give up on that account and create a whole new one for me using a different email address.
Now I can download apps on both my iPhone and ipad2.
If anyone is reading this in Brisbane Australia go to the Chermside apple shop and ask for Wade. He was fantastic!

  • How will the itunes match app affect my data usage?

how will the itunes match app affect my data usage? It seems to take a while to connect and start playing so i'm assuming if my range isnt the best it will drop out like a bad radio station???

What I have done is create playlists and I'll download the playlists to the iPhone while I'm at home, on Wi Fi, and listen while I'm out and about. I've only downloaded the occasional tracks on 3G (mainly because at&t's network was so terrible). This method worked pretty well for me.
Incidentally, iTunes Match should not be used as a substitute for a backup: FAQ:  Why iTunes Match can NOT be used as a backup!

  • Hello, my iTunes dates are crashed on my mac, how can I download all my itunes match songs and save on my mac?

Hello, my iTunes dates are crashed on my mac, how can I download all my itunes match songs and save on my mac?

    Hi mrmoo13!
You have a couple of options for transferring your music library from one computer to another. First, you can download all of your music that is stored in the cloud on iTunes Match by following the instructions on this page:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Access all your music anytime, anywhere with iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12284
You can follow steps listed in the section right here:
Play or download songs from iCloud
You can play songs directly from iCloud, or you can download songs so you can play them when you’re not connected to the Internet.
If a song is available in iCloud, it has a Download button next to it.
To play the song, double-click it.
To download the song, click the Download button.
After you download a song to a computer, it remains in the computer’s iTunes library, even if you turn off iTunes Match.
To only display downloaded songs in your iTunes library, choose View > Hide Music in the Cloud. This also hides any previous iTunes Store purchases you haven’t downloaded.
For information about downloading and playing songs on an iOS device, see the documentation for the device.
In order to make it easier to download all of your music, you can highlight all of the songs in your iTunes Match section and then click download, as mentioned in these instructions.
You can also choose to transfer the music from your old computer to the new one by following the steps in this article, whcih will give you some other options for doing this transfer:

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

Here are some things to try:
    Close itunes
    Check your internet settings.
Control Panel – Internet Options – Advanced
Check SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0
Uncheck “Check for server certificate revocation (requires restart)”
    Click Apply
    Click Okay
    Open itunes and try again
And, you don't need to turn off the firewall, just add itunes and itunes helper to your security software firewall.

  • Looking for Smart Playlist Documentation for iTunes Match (iCloud), and iOS

With iTunes Match I don't understand exactly how Smart Playlist's are suppose to work with iTunes Match (iCloud) and my iOS devices. I am looking for some official (possibly draft) documentation.

Is this a general rant or do you have a specific question ?

  • Turn off itunes match subscription and cancel the remaining balance on my account to change the country store

Good afternoon. I want to turn off itunes match subscription and cancel the remaining balance on my account to change the country store as I do this?

You will need to contact Apple by call to gain the appropriate support directly.  There can be significant issues in changing country.
First step is always to ensure that you have a secure backup of all of your Songs.

  • ITunes Match with 2 different apple IDs and crossing 2 devices!

iTunes is on my PC and accessible thru my apple ID. My partner has a new iPad and it is registered under her apple ID. I have signed up to iTunes Match in the hope that we can access the iTunes library on my PC on her iPad thru iCloud. Is this possible?

Brilliant thanks so much. We can now access our music on our new iPad.
One last question, we have just also invested a new laptop, unfortunately couldn't quite stretch to an iMac. Can you advise how we transfer our iTunes library onto our new laptop from the old PC. I thought we could do it by saving it to our portable hard drive and then install on to new laptop. It doesn't seem to want to work. I really will think you are a genius if you can solve this one too!
    Thanks again

  • Will iTunes Match sync up different libraries and playlists I have on multiple pc's?

As I've bought different laptops over the years I've got iCloud synching all my iTunes purchases.  However the music libraries and playlists are completely different ref. the CD's that I've loaded in.  Thinking of signing up to iTunes Match and wondered if this would at least give me 1 synchronysed version of each libraries music and playlists?

An addition to #3 above.  He currently backs up his iPhone to the desktop in the basement.  I will enable him to back up to the cloud, however if I have to do a local back-up, what computer should I use?  He also has music stored locally on his phone and I am unsure if I am going to enable match on his phone, if not, how will he get music on his phone?  I don't want his laptop to access the NAS with music on it so what should I do?  Maybe I will need to allow him access to the cloud?

  • Itunes match with two different libraries on two different computers with the same apple ID? How?

I have a work PC that I synch with my itunes library and it works totally fine. I also have a macbook at home with a different library on it. Both compuers share the same apple id. will itunes match synch all the devices with the same library? If so do I only need one itunes match purchase or do I need one for each computer? The apple help desk (phone support) and apple store I recently visited were unable to provide me with answers to my questions.

Just create a new account. On one iPod go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and sing out and sign in with other account. Same for Settings>iCloud and Settings Messages. Also go to Settings>Face time and add the new iD email addrss as the Caling email address and delete the other one.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • Using iTunes match with two different ID's

I have 1 iMac and need to have two users establish their own iTunes match enviornment.  The iMac has 2 seperate G-raid external drives with each drive having an operating system with a different computer name.  When I use the computer, I boot from g-raid-1.  When my wife uses the computer, she uses g-raid-2.  I was able to setup itunes match on each drive using our sperate ID's.  my wifes config, worked for about an hour.  Mine works fine.  I'm suspecting a mac address capture is preventing what should be a perfectly legit and legal implimentation of apples products from working in a normal way.  It does not make sense to me that I have to go out a buy another iMac, just so that each iTunes match environment will have it's own mac address.  I know i can run a terminal command and change the mac address, or use one dirve via airport and the other via ethernet wire, but perhaps there's a basic issue at play here that has nothing to do with the seperate drive images and seperate user accounts.  any thoughts?  thanks

iTunes Match is associated with one, and only one, iTunes Store Apple ID and country-specific store. The service cannot be shared between Apple IDs.

If we sign up for iTunes with the one account with the majority of the songs, is Home Sharing no longer available to the other two accounts?
Of course it is. iTunes Match has no affect on Home Sharing.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    A.  What happens to the songs on the other two libraries?  Can we never use them?
It is possible to consolidate the tracks from the other iTunes libraries into one and use that for iTunes Match. Make sure the one computer that hosts the library is authorized to play any protected content.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    C.  If we purchase songs/albums while in iTunes Match, and then decide not to use Match in the future, do we lose all our music?
Of course not. Any purchases go to the purchase history for the Apple ID that bought them and as long as the tracks are downloaded and backedup you'll have them as long as you maintain them. Keep in mind that iTunes Match is a service; you don't do anything "in" iTunes Match. It simply "is" in the background.

    D.  If we associate our child's iTouch, will it still keep the parental controls in place so it won't play certain songs that are not appropriate f
Yes, parental controls should continue to work as they have. Although I do not use them, perhaps someone else with experience will weigh in.

  • I updated my iphone 4 with iO6.1.  I now no longer have any of my music available with iTunes match.  I've turned iTunes match on and off on my phone and on and off on my computer. I am not restoring my phone to factory settings.

I updated my iphone 4 with iO6.1.  I no longer have any music on my phone even with itunes match.  I've turned my phone off and on. I've turned my imac off and on. I've turned off imatch on my computer and turned it back on. I've turned imatch off on my phone and turned it back on.  I spent HOURS on this yesterday.  Coincidentally, two of my playlists were deleted from itunes.  So I spent  quite a bit of time recreating them only to find them missing again today. The ONLY way for me to get music on my phone is to click on the ...more tab and go to shared and pull music from my actual desktop.  Restoring my iphone is not an option.  I am completely frustrated so if anyone can help, that would be great

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!
