ITunes Match creates hundrets of Playlists

Hello!
since I use iTunes Match I have a big Problem: iTunes created more then 500 Playlists. My MacBook Air and my iPhone 4 are always stucking when I start them because they are trying to load all these lists. After more then 10 Minutes my MacBook Air shows me all the Playlists. In every Playlist are all of my Tracks (around 1000), so my Mac is very much to load. 1000 Tracks*500 Playlist is a lot stuff! Is it able to delete all of them with a trick or do I really have to delete them all seperate?
Thanks for your answers! Regards, Heiner

Now I downloaded a tool to delete them all with one klick. It always stucks because it counts more then 69.000 Playlists.
iTunes Match really needs to get optimised!

Yes, I suggest you do a search of the forum, or just look to the right column on this page for "more like this".  You should be able to come up with postings by other people who have had the same problem, as well as some possible solutions.

  • Itunes Auto-Creates Duplicates of Playlists

Hello, I'm having a problem with my iTunes / iPod. Every time I connect my iPod, iTunes automatically creates new Smart Playlists named "Audiobooks", "Movies", "Music", and "TV Shows" on my iPod. This is getting really annoying since I have to manually delete them each time. But the worst part is that last time I plugged it in, I didn't delete the playlists since I was in a rush. Now, when I just plugged my iPod in, it created an ADDITIONAL set of smart playlists, meaning that now there's "Audiobooks", "Audiobooks", "Movies", "Movies", "Music", "Music", "TV Shows", and "TV Shows". How do I stop iTunes from doing this?

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.

  • My iTunes is creating duplicates of playlists and hanging up. running latest version of lion, and iTunes using match and iCloud. please help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  deleted all library files and is doing same thing.

I am runing lion and latest version of itunes.  I have match on, home sharing on and using icloud.  my itunes started hanging up and required me to force quit.  then upon restart of itunes and restart of computer itunes would take upwards of 15 minutes to open and was using >90% of CPU and would be lagging in response if responding at all one of the playlists I had created on my ipad had over a hundred copies of the same playlist.  after repeated restarts I uninstaled itunes and reinstalled.  this didnt rectify the problem.  I assumed library file had somehow become corrupt so I deleted library files, reimported all my music and synced with genius and match.  and let the computer go over night. when I woke in morning all my music was back but I had all the extra playlists again and itunes is hogging all the cpu and was minimally responsive and hanging up after each click.
I thought this might be a virus or something but installed ESET cypersecurity did a complet scan with no threats found.  I am at a total loss and do not know where to go from here.  I hope one of you can assist.  Thanks!

I had this exact issue.  Spent over an hour on the phone with apple support, they couldn't resolve.  Here is what I ended up doing, that worked.
    1.  Turned iTunes match off on all my iOS devices
    2.  Deleted the offending playlists from the iOS device they originated on
    3.  Started iTunes, let it run (literally) for an hour before it became responsive.  First thing I did, before clicking anywere else was disable iTunes match.  If I clicked anywhere, it would clock for another hour.
    4.  Let iTunes run overnight, by morning it had cleaned out the repeating play lists.  This got my Mac/iTunes back to an operable state.
    5.  Restore iPhones from backup in iTunes.
What was causing my issue was a single playlist that was created on an iPhone, then suddenly showed up with several thousand duplicates on my other iPhone.  The culprit playlist did not, for some reason, duplicate itself on my two iPads.  Apple support seemed to think it was because the problem iPhone tried to sync the playlist to iCloud over and over again unsuccessfully, then it finally went through and populated the thousands of blank/failed playlists which then tried to propigate to iTunes and my other iOS devices.  Seems like a reasonable theory.
I have not yet re-enabled iTunes match.  So, no idea what will happen if I decide to go back down that rabbit hole.

  • ITunes Match deleted ALL my playlists

About 6 weeks ago or so, I noted that one of my favourite playlists on iTunes Match had disappeared.  I had absolutely no idea how this could happen as this is a Cloud based service with an integrated back-up.  Now - today - I find that ALL my playlists are gone too.  Any ideas who/what is responsible ??

  • ITunes Match song counts in Playlists

I have created Genius playlists on my Mac with 100 tracks.  I also have iTunes Match enabled on my iPhone 5, with the setting to show all tracks.  I then downloaded the saved Genius playlist.  On the iPhone, when I scroll to the very bottom of the playlist it reads "62 songs" instead of the 100 that I expected.  I switched my view under Sharing to see my computer library and was able to view all 100 tracks from the playlist.
What would cause iTunes Match to only show 62 tracks on my iPhone but 100 tracks actually being in the playlist?  This has happened to me on all smart or genius playlists.  The old school playlist (not Smart or Genius) have the track counts in sync.

iTunes Match has consistently had issues with Smart Playlists since launch.  Copying the Songs you like to a standard playlist is an easy fix.
iTunes Match is good at many things but certainly not all - this is a known shortfall.

  • Itunes match has duplicated my playlists

My Itunes match failes when trying to match songs with 8 songs left to go on my new Mac Mini but it will retry and retry and causes duplicate playlists in itunes and Icloud.
    1. How do I fix itunes Match?
    2. How do I delete Multiple Playlist quickly rather than one at a time?
    Thanks for the help

This has been on the discussion threads for a while now. Its done the same thing to me and I now have 76,127 copies and iTunes is totally unusable and takes 20minutes to just turn on. The only thing we can figure out is that it has something to do with the iPod/iPhone trying to sync when there is no network connection. Once it finally does get a network signal, it pushes all those thousands of times it tried to sync to the server at once which can cause thousands of duplicates. Once they are on the server your stuck because now they are saved on the server and you can't erase them. Many of us have been in touch with iTunes Match support but they wont answer us. The best thing to do right now is leave iTunes Match turned off. Once its off, the playlists should stay gone. You can even use this apple script to erase them for you.

  • ITunes match has deleted a playlist and all my itunes library are showing errors on my mac, it wont update

I have logged into iTunes on my Mac and found that one of my playlists has been wiped and that every single of my 12000 songs has an error saying that it cant be loaded in itunes match when they are all there.

Kind of a similar issue.  I have long recordings of a radio show I like to catch up on on my mobile devices.  All of this kind of media were greyed out and yet initally played.  Then they would not play after a sync but could be seen.  Also palyback position was lost despite being set in options.  Crudley fixed by turning iTunes Match off on the device and resync.  KInd of defeats the object of the subscrition though. :-(
Obviously its a great idea to have everung backed up in the Cloud but there's still a lot of user niggles coming to light it seems.  Good luck.

  • ITunes match not syncing normal playlists correctly

I have iTunes match enabled on my computer and on my iOS device. I made a playlist that consists of 195 songs on my computer. I opened Music on my phone, and I see the playlist there with all 195 songs no problem. I open iTunes on my computer and delete a few songs down to 128. My iOS device still shows 195 songs.. I restart iTunes and my iOS device and iTunes still shows 128 songs, and my iOS device shows 195. I hit update iTunes Match on iTunes on my computer and all those songs I deleted are back and it is showing 195 songs on the computer now too. How do I update my playlist using iTunes Match? Is the service this buggy/unreliable?
I also noticed I have reset my play count on iTunes on the computer and it is all back too. It is like any changes on iTunes on the computer are not updating to iTunes Match.

I am also having problems with smart playlists on OS7 iphone 4s with mountain Lion on my mac
I have two smart playlists, one for music not played in 6 months, the other for zero plays, the other criteria for the lists are media type 'music' and track time ' less than 15 minutes.
These two playlists have 619 items and 108 items respectively in my mac but on the phone it shows 2962 items (for both lists) and a cloud symbol next to the track - although scrolling down, there are some tracks that do not have the cloud symbol - these look like the original 619 and 108 in the lists
Other smart playlists are fine and appear to be not affected

  • ITunes Match, iPad, and smart playlist issues.

I have one particular smart playlist, that iTunes Match correctly syncs to my Macs and my iPhone, but no matter what I try, it shows as "no songs" on my iPad. Both iDevices are running iOS 7.0.3.

    Hi zentralorgan,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you are trying to AirPlay from an iPad to multiple AirPlay outputs.  This feature requires iTunes on a computer, and cannot be done on an iOS device.  Since you have iTunes Match, your music should still be the same on your computer as your iPad.
    Listen through multiple speakers
With AirPlay and iTunes 10 or later, you can listen to music through your computer speakers and multiple AirPlay outputs.
The maximum number of outputs is three to six. The number that works for you depends on your environment (such as building composition and local radio interference), distance to the outputs, and available network capacity relative to your other usage.

  • Is it possible to organize your music in iTunes Match into the same playlists on your iPhone?

I tried using iTunes Match, but the music is completely unorganized on my phone when I activate it.  Can I access my iTunes Match music in the same playlists as they are on my iPhone?  How?  Thanks gang!!!!

    Yes.

  • Itunes match bugs and lost playlists

There`s too many glitches, bugs, freezes etc, It`s too easy to lose playlists (I lost several years worth).  Keep your library backed up locally, this is no substitute for time machine!  Overall, it`s a nice idea, but it needs a safety mechanism to keep the playlists backed up, it seems a hard drive glitch on one machine can result in deletions being replicated across the cloud quietly in the background.
Also, there`s no point in the iphone feature, because with a large library the iphone can`t cope and just crashes espcially on 3G.
Things were better in the days of an ipod classic, syncing through USB to an itunes library stored locally, at least it worked!  I think I`ll go back to that until things improve.

iTunes Match does over-promise, it certainly has a number of shortfalls (all of which now well documented in thisctforum) but what it enables is very impressive.
For synchronisation acrorss multiple libraries it is very good, provided you steer clear of Smart Playlists the iDevice capability is very good - though keeping one or more iDevices on a manual synchronise to library certainly provides a worthwhile route depending upon how you choose to work with your music.
Overall the service is impressive and certainly worth staying with, though it is not for all, your suggested route of waiting for the service to mature is perfectly reasonable.

  • Why is iTunes Match creating hundreds of temp files in my iTunes folder?

I'm syncing a large (24000 songs) library, and I noticed my free space has gone from 180GB to 70.  I found about 1400 temp files that have been created in the iTunes application folder, each one about 50mb.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Can I delete the files, or get iTunes to clean them up?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Same problem here.
I just created another question in the iTunes for Mac section of the discussion forum, because it it probably not directly caused by iTunes Match, but a generic iTunes problem.
Good to see, I'm not the only one though...

  • ITunes Match crashes when loading playlists on Apple TV

After the update to OS 6.1.0 on my 2nd gen Apple TV, iTunes Match won't load any playlists. When attempting to load, the device crashes and drops me back to the home screen. This ONLY happens with playlists. All other attempts to play back music works fine.
I have reset the device and installed the latest update. All other devices can play playlists from iTunes Match.

    Update
I tried the Apple TV in my second house. Same problem.
    Apple: wake up!
We should perhaps gather some facts.
I have 31 playlists; two of them are doubled by sync issues.
I also have 43 intelligent playlist whereof 5 of them are doubled ones with the number "1" added to the name.
