ITunes match deleting playlists prefixed with an underscore?

I noticed this morning I was missing my "radio" playlists including the folder that contained them.  The folder was named "_Ben network" and the playlists were named "_Radio NPR", "_Radio Ben", etc.  After doing some checks with a previous backup, it seems to be just these playlists and curiously, if I connect to a network after restoring my iTunes library from a backup, those playlists become removed again!  I have re-created these playlists in the meantime and it seems to work however I'm nervous about it deleting these playlists again.  Anyone else have this issue?

Sorry to reply with no answer, but I have simular issue. I had iTunes Match turned on, but now it is off. I have music on the iPhone under Arists, Songs etc, but no playlists show up. In iTunes if I expand the iPhone the playlists are there. I am doing a cable sync which I understand you aren't, but I have no playlists either.
Best wishes
Michael

  • Why is iTunes Match deleting playlists on my Mac?

A few months back, I turned off iTunes Match because iTunes Match checking for updates would bog down my system enough to make it annoying. Since I primarily use it as music backup and to stream to my Apple TV, I didn't miss it. However, I've since done a fresh install of Mountain Lion and with the Mac mini running fast and smooth again, I opted to turn iTunes Match back on.
iTunes Match ran through its motions and completed its process. Then, instead of the playlists that exisisted on my Mac mere seconds before, a list of playlists - which I assume were present a couple months ago - replaced them! I waited a day to see if the newer playlists would repopulate, but they never did. Fortunately I just went into Time Machine to restore the newer playlists so I didn't lose anything. Decided to try again and the same thing happened.
Anybody have any clue as to why this happened? I've read about issues on IOS devices and empty playlists in iTunes, but this is a first for me. I scoured the forums looking for a similar issue, but with no luck. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

    Hi,
someone seems to have installed Windows on your Mac using Apples BootCamp.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
To boot into that Windows you can use the Option/Alt-key at startup of your Mac and select WIndows to be booted as Operating System.
The reason why you cannot delete any files from the WIndows partition (HD) is because it uses the NTFS file system which OSX can read but not write to / delete without additional third-party helper tools.
If you don't want/need the WIndows on your Mac you can use the BootCamp Assistant (in the Applications/Utilities folder) to completely remove the WIndows partition and reassign the used diskspace back to your OSX.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • ITunes Match and playlists broken in iOS 8

Since updating to iOS 8 I can no longer add songs to playlists from my phone (I have iTunes match).  When attempting to add a song sometimes it gets stuck in the add screen and does not show a "done" button to press or if I add one, it just doesn't add it to the playlist.  I can however add songs to the playlist from my mac and it will show up on my phone like normal, just unable to add from my phone.
Other iTunes or music app issues are songs not showing up where they should.  I had a song that downloaded from a pre-order, I changed the genre to one of the main genre's I use (like normal), added it to a playlist, and now that the entire album has become available and has downloaded the first track is not able to be found through either genre (either original or my own altered genre) or artist although it still shows up on the playlist.
One more thing about adding songs to a playlist on iOS.  I was glad to see that one of the buttons on the bottom (in the add screen) is playlists now as an option to add a song but if you edit the buttons on the bottom and move genre down there, it doesn't stay put.  It's back on the "more" screen each time.
Here's a suggestion to any apple folks if they're reading this, besides fixing the things above, how about from the song playing screen when you press the + button that an option is to "add to playlist".  When you click on that it brings you to your playlist view to select a playlist.  It's a pain in the butt when say you're listening to a song on shuffle, want to add said song to a playlist so you have to back out of the song playing screen, find the playlist (for which I have multiple layers due to playlist folders) click the add button, find the song (after you move genre to the bottom again) then click on the plus sign, hit done, make sure it took it, back out of the playlist view to get back to Now Playing.  For people like me who take advantage of iTunes Match and have a lot of music in their libaray, Genre and playlists are the easiest and quickest ways to find what I want to listen to and at times it's not very efficient.
Thanks for your considerations and eventual fixes.

iTunes Match has this problem with almost every iPhone software update. It's unfortunate that they cannot track down the issue. Hopefully this is not indicative of Apple's expertise when it comes to all cloud services. Music, photos and personal data are things that are important to all of us and we spend many hours on custom playlists, personal photo albums and are putting our trust that the work won't just disappear. iCloud drive is another promised feature and it's becoming tougher to trust a new free service when long-standing issues on a paid service cannot be fixed. I want to remain optimistic but so far, iTunes Match is not helping.
On a positive note, the playlists on my Apple TV matches perfectly with my iMac and was working well on my iPhone 5S. The update to iOS 8 on the 5S did NOT cause the playlists to go out of order. I have only seen this issue on new iPhone 6's and iOS 8. Also, moving playlists in and out of folders in iTunes on a Mac seems to be a temporary fix that only lasts as long as you are logged in – Signing out of iTunes Match on iOS and signing back in brings back the problem… which *****.

  • ITunes Match deleted songs from my hard drive. I had to re-rip them. How can I stop this from happening?

iTunes Match deleted songs from my hard drive. How can I prevent this from happening if I try it again?

iTunes Match can in no way be considered a backup service, this is due to the inexact nature of the 'matching process' (see https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4112, for more detail).
Loss of files from a Disk is certainly possible through media failure.  However, the extent of iTunes Match capacity is solely to influence the content of the cloud.  Perhaps there was a coincident, or pre-existing, failure of the disk which was simply exposed by the iTunes Match interrogation of the disk content.
There are certainly other services which depending upon your goal may work well.  For example, Google Play with gBeats IOS App works very well.  My use of Match is to synchronise across several computers and to drive Apple TV and an IOS device - other IOS devices still use sync for specific music and are complimented by gBeats for access to the full library when local mobile signal strength is high.
The strong advice to always start with a secure backup remains but if your primary concern is iTunes Match interfering with physical disk content you can relax - it simply does not have this ability.  (Apology to Sherlock, further investigation required).

  • HT201303 will itunes match delete my exsisting ipod libary if i activate itunes match on my new computer

wil itunes match delete my exsisting ipod libary on my iphone if i activate itunes match on my new computer

Itunes match does not apply to audiobooks although if you have added them with media kind shown as music, you risk losing those books if you subscribe to match.
WHen you subscribe to match, your music needs to in your iTunes library on your computer. If the audiobooks have been added as music, you will need to copy them to your computer Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device

  • ITunes Match and Playlists on iPhone - not syncing in correct order

Is anyone having problems with iTunes Match and playlists on their iPhone?  I normally have my playlists sorted by date, however, on my iPhone it is showing up in random order and not exactly like the playlist I have created on my computer. I wasn't sure if I need to change any settings or anything or if this was a glitch.

Please Please PLEASE DON'T reset your iPhone if you get this issue
As has been mentioned before try this first - connect your iPhone:
    1) Right click the iPhone icon in the Device list on the left-hand side of your iTunes window
    2) Click on the Reset Warnings entry
    3) Click on your iPhone icon in the devices list and look at the main window, then select the Applications tab
    4) Make sure you tick the Sync Applications box and select All Applications
    5) Press Apply in the lower right hand corner of iTunes
    6) Press the Sync button in the same position
You should get a warning that there are apps on your iPhone that should be backed up into iTunes. Select OK and your iPhone apps should be backed up with the rest of the Sync.
MAKE SURE NOT TO CHECK DON'T SHOW WARNING AGAIN!!!
I bet this is usually why people run into this problem, as we assume that it will do it automatically but it doesn't.

  • HT4915 iTunes Match deleted tracks just show back up on next iTunes restart, super frustrating.

Has anyone found a fool proof way around this? I don't understand, it's so incredibly frustrating. I'll delete tracks and then an hour or a day or two later they just pop back up in my library. It's so unbelievably obnoxious. I haven't called Apple support, as I know from experience they know little and do nothing about iTunes Match, but man...
Apple doesn't normally half-*** stuff but iTunes Match is the lamest pile ever. I'm trying to delete my collection because after four days of trying to get my genre tags updated, with iTunes Match deleting the fresh tags off of 15,000 tracks of my collection SEVERAL TIMES--before I wised up and set all my MP3s to read-only so iTunes can't delete them---I just can't believe this is such a pain.

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.

  • HT204053 I want to play newly purchased music but cant, i get the message "You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. (mobileme family pack is the problem i think)

I purchase a new album on my phone but then cannot download it to my laptop -  I get the message:
"You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. All I can think is that the problem stems from purchasing a mobileme family & some of the music being my daughters. (she is 9 & I need to be ble to listen to more than Katy Perry & Justin Bieber) Please help! :-(

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Youll get that message when you change the iTunes account you are logged into, you can't keep changing it.

  • You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 5 days.

I only have 1 Apple ID.  I turned off iTunes Match on my iMac, and now I cannot turn it back on.  I get this error when I try to just turn iTunes Match back on, on the same computer, with the same Apple ID that I used orginially to subscribe to iTunes Match:
This computer is already associated with an Apple ID.
You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 5 days.
I checked for iTunes updates.  None are available since I am using the latest.
    I stopped/started iTunes.  I rebooted the iMac.
    NOTHING HELPS!!!!!!!!
I have a Mac Mini and I use the same Apple ID on iTunes there.  I was able to turn iTunes Match off and back on with no trouble at all but my iMac refuses to allow me to turn on iTunes Match.
    Now what do I do?

Unless you really only have one AppleID that you use with the iTunes Store there's really nothing you can do. In the case of having only one AppleID you should contact iTunes Store support, since that would be a server-side problem.

  • HT4913 iTunes Match:You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 85 days. What can I do?

I'm subscribed to iTunes Match but when I turn it on I get this message:You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 85 days. What can I do?

I had this happen back in December/January. I sold my MBP that I used to subscribe to iTunes Match back in December. In January, I bought a used MB and tried to use iTunes Match on it. I was told I had to wait nearly two months to use it on the new computer. I waited and was finally able to use it in the new computer.\
Sadly, this has more to do with the content providers (Record lables / movie studios) than it has to do with Apple impsoing the restrictions.

  • ITunes match isn't working with new Macbook Pro

    Hello everyone,
I have had iTunes Match for years with no problems on any device mobile or otherwise. I just purchased a new Macbook Pro w/Retina. I unboxed, powered up, and updated all software. I set up the Macbook with my one and only apple ID and logged into iTunes with the same ID.  All of my purchased music is available, however when I go to turn on iTunes match I get this error: "THIS COMPUTER IS ALREADY ASSOCIATED WITH AN APPLE ID. You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days.". After this I have no other option but to close the window. I have tried logging in and out and restarting the computer but have had no success. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Can I use iTunes Match on my Sonos with my iPhone and iPad?

Can I use iTunes Match on my Sonos with my iPhone and iPad?

I have Sonos. No, it won't use iTunes match. It will allow you to stream your itunes media, but only the files you have on a hard drive on your network.
ETA: It does let you play other internet services such as Spotify though.

  • HT5637 How does itunes match sync playlists?

How does itunes match sync playlists between my computer, ipad and ipod?

It will tell you that the library exceeds the limit and will not proceed. So if you have more than the 25k limit (and keep in mind that iTunes Store purchases do not count against this limit) the only way you can use iTM is to move some music out of the library to get under the limit before signing up for the service.

hello i ad my girlfriend profile and her itune library on my macbook and now i have this warning in my l itunes library, how can i resolve the problem ?
You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 85 days.

If a computer has been associated with a device (as well as iTunes Matct, it can become associated via automatic downloads or re-downloading past purchases) then you will either need to wait until the 90 days have completed : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
Or you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they can remove the association : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
